NEW LONDON - Christopher McPhail, 42, of New London died Saturday at Rice Memorial Hospital.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Willmar with the Rev. Joe Steinbeisser officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home of Willmar.
He was born Oct. 28, 1952, in Amityville, N.Y., to Ronald E. and Catherine F. (Hyland) McPhail. He grew up in Amityville and Willmar. He was a 1978 graduate of Willmar High School. He lived at home with his parents until April 1986, when he moved to New London. He was employed by Kandi-Works DAC many years.
He is survived by his mother of Willmar; brothers Edward (and Carol) McPhail of Charlotte, N.C., Douglas (and Kathleen) McPhail of Pennock, Ronald McPhail of Wadena and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Kenneth R. Davis
GLENWOOD - Kenneth R. Davis, 73, of Glenwood died Saturday at VA Hospital in Minneapolis.
His funeral and burial are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday morning at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Arrangements are with Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel in Minneapolis (612-377-2203).
He is survived by his wife Donna; sons Brett (and Lois) of Connecticut, Bradley (and Wendy) of New Mexico; three grandchildren; and sister Beverly (and Vern) Olson of Minneapolis.

Ronald K. Sullivan
Dec. 12, 1951 - July 16, 2000
BELGRADE - Ronald Kenneth Sullivan, 48, of rural Belgrade died Sunday at St. Cloud Hospital.
His funeral will be at 12 p.m. Thursday at Big Grove Lutheran Church in rural Brooten with the Rev. Michael DeKraai officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Albion Evangelical Cemetery in rural Maple Lake.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born Dec. 12, 1951, in Minneapolis to Henry and Virginia (Hoffman) Sullivan. He grew up in Maple Plain and was a 1970 graduate of Delano High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 175-76.
On Dec. 24, 1981, he married Virginia Gorre in Las Vegas, Nev., where they lived. He was employed selling Western clothing by Sam's Town Western Emporium, and by Calville Bay Marina where he studied scuba diving. He studied welding and auto mechanics at a Las Vegas technical college and was later employed as a lube mechanic for a heavy equipment company in Henderson. He repaired motorcycles and built a "show bike." They moved to the Belgrade-Brooten area in 1991 due to his poor health.
He was a member of Big Grove Lutheran Church and Silver Star American Legion in Waite Park.
He is survived by his wife; children David (and Dawn) of Buffalo, Ali (and John) Hall of Texas, Janae of Belgrade, Pat of Belgrade, Chris of Belgrade, Kelly of Belgrade; five grandchildren; parents of Belgrade; sister Donna (and Jerry) Rackliffe of Tucson, Ariz.; brothers Allen (and Pam) of Delano, Terry (and Pat) of Eden Prairie and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother.

Ferdie H. Moen
BROOKLYN PARK - Ferdie H. Moen, 87, of Brooklyn Park, formerly of Willmar, has died.
His funeral was Monday at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad. Cards may be sent to 1789 Sioux Blvd., New Brighton, Minn. 55112.
While living in Willmar, he and his wife, Pearl, were members of Bethel Lutheran Church, the parish served by his daughter and son-in-law, Candy and the Rev. Tom Carlson. The Moens moved to Brooklyn Park in January.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Pat (and Jack) Bjerk of Oklahoma City, Candy (and the Rev. Tom) Carlson of New Brighton; seven grandchildren; sisters Myrtle Wann of Palo Alto, Calif., Clarice Yngve of Karlstad and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin infant siblings, one brother and one sister.

Carol Swenson
HARVEY, La. - Carol Swenson, 60, of Harvey, La., died Sunday.
Her memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Friday at St. Martha Catholic Church in Harvey. Arrangements are with Mothe Funeral Homes (504-366-4343).
She was born in Willmar. She and her husband Merrill have lived in Harvey for 27 years.
She is survived by her husband; children Caryn Swenson, Dawn Johnson, Mark Swenson; daughter-in-law Michelle Swenson; sisters Shirley Willford, Dorothy Anderson; brother Richard Gunderson and five grandchildren.

Carl Laidig
Feb. 12, 1931 - July 16, 2000
WILLMAR - Carl Laidig, 69, of Willmar died Sunday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Infinia (formerly Ashwood Health Care Center) in Willmar with the Rev. Robert J. Lehner officiating. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery in Willmar.
There will be no visitation or reviewal. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home of Willmar.
He was born Feb. 12, 1931, in Jordan to Carl and Emma (Hoffmann) Laidig. He attended Sunnyside Country School in Jordan. He was a farmer and worked as a laborer for area farmers, retiring in 1974. He moved to Green Lake Manor and the past few years lived at Ashwood Health Care Center.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Raymond.
He is survived by his brother Paul Laidig of Atwater and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Marvin O. Nelson
Aug. 9, 1915 - July 16, 2000
LITCHFIELD - Marvin Otto Nelson, 84, of Litchfield died Sunday at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Litchfield.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Trinity Episcopal Church in Litchfield. Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield. Military rites by Admiral Benson Post 2818 VFW.
Arrangements are with Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield.
He was born Aug. 9, 1915, in Litchfield to Nels and Elna (Anderson) Nelson. He was a 1933 graduate of Litchfield High School. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II from April 16, 1942 to Nov. 29, 1945. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater and participated in battles in the Western Pacific (New Guinea, South Philippines, Luzon). He was awarded the American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal and Philippine Liberation Medal. He returned to Litchfield where he was employed by Esbjornson Lumber Company several years, and by Ideal Lumber from 1966 until retiring in 1993.
He was a member of Admiral Benson Post 2818 VFW.
He is survived by his niece Fern Dalby of Solway and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers.

Clifford Knutson
March 1, 1915 - July 18, 2000
BELGRADE - Clifford Knutson, 85, of Belgrade, formerly of Vesta, died Tuesday at North Memorial Medical Center in Minneapolis.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. Burial will be in Vesta Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
He was born March 1, 1915, in Sheridan, Ore., to Chris and Kristine (Dalby) Knutson. He served in the United States Army.
On June 25, 1946, he married Wanda Arlege in Columbus, Ohio, where he was employed by Lennox Corporation. They moved to Mankato where he was employed by John Deere and by Mankato Lumber Company. In 1975, they moved to Vesta and for the past several years lived in Belgrade.
He is survived by his wife and brother Leonard Knutson of Graling, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Roger W. Schulte
Jan. 1, 1953 - July 17, 2000
BIRD ISLAND - Roger W. Schulte, 47, of Bird Island died unexpectedly Monday in Olivia.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island with the Rev. Phil Schotzko officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Bird Island.
He was born Jan. 1, 1953, in Olivia to Martin and Helen (Richter) Schulte. He was a 1971 graduate of St. Mary's High School and a graduate of Willmar Technical College's mechanic program.
On Oct. 6, 1978, he married Janice Reitsma in Lake Lillian. They lived in Bird Island. He was employed by Scott Bus Company since 1974 and later Palmer Bus Company where he was currently manager and a mechanic. He also farmed with his brothers in Bird Island.
He was a member of Catholic Aid Association.
He is survived by his children Melissa Schulte of Bird Island, Jonathan Schulte of Bird Island; father of Bird Island; sisters Judy (and George) Jacobs of Blaine, Georgine (and Carl) Gansen of Belle Plaine; brothers Tom (and Shirley) Schulte of Bird Island, Mark (and Ruth) Schulte of Olivia, Joe (and Karen) Schulte of Bird Island and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother.

Herman R. Maanum
May 16, 1920 - July 17, 2000
APPLETON - Herman Raymond Maanum, 80, of Appleton died Monday at Villa of St. Francis in Morris.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton with the Rev. Scott Nagel officiating. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Vaala Funeral Home in Appleton, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born May 16, 1920, in Alberta to Anton and Clara (Hanson) Maanum. They lived several places before returning to Hancock. He served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electrician from 1944-46 and was active in Naval Reserves until 1952. He was employed by Cessna Aircraft of Wichita, Kan., and by his brother's radio shop in Glenwood.
On Jan. 10, 1949, he married Geraldine F. Rau in Hancock. They farmed and later he was employed by Dunwoody Electronics. He was then employed by Denver Martin Marietta on the Titan Missile Project, the Redstar Arsenal at Huntsville, Ala., on the Pershing missiles, and in Orlando, Fla., for Martin Marietta where he worked on guidance systems for the first Apollo moon landing. He moved to Lowry to farm in 1967, and in 1979 graduated from Alexandria Tech Avionics. He was employed by Pioneer Public TV, retiring in 1984. On Jan. 15, 1999, he moved to Villa of St. Francis in Morris.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 72 of Appleton.
He is survived by his wife; children Wayne (and Julie) Maanum of Morris, Dean (and Debralee) Maanum of Fergus Falls, Sharon (and Doug) Wartner of Starbuck; seven grandchildren; brother Vern (and Mavis) Maanum of Glenwood; sisters Audrey Brozek of White Bear Lake, Irene Hegg of St. Anthony and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Harold W. Dickinson
Jan. 17, 1905 - July 16, 2000
BEMIDJI - Harold Wesley Dickinson, 95, of Bemidji, formerly of Olivia, died Sunday at Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji.
His graveside memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Greenwood Cemetery in Bemidji.
Arrangements are with Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji.
He was born Jan. 17, 1905, in Buena Vista to Ralph and Addie (Speelman) Dickinson. He attended high schools in Bemidji, Worthington and International Falls, and attended University of Minnesota school of engineering. He was employed by an International Falls bank several years and was then in the construction business in Bemidji. He was a partner in two manufacturing businesses.
On June 13, 1931, he married Glee M. Nichols, and they lived in Bemidji. In 1951, they moved to Olivia where he started a lumberyard and established Rafter's Inc. He retired and became a Minnesota state building inspector. He suffered a stroke in June 1995 and moved in December 1995 to Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji.
In Bemidji, he was a member of District 31 school board, president of city council, member of First Methodist Church, Past Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star, and was Past Master of Masonic Lodge in Bemidji and Olivia.
In Olivia, he served as mayor, and was a member of Southwest Minnesota Arts Council and Renville County Historical Society.
He is survived by his wife; daughter Ann Hoaglund of Bemidji; son Russell Dickinson of Bemidji; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister Helen DePuy of Seattle, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister and an infant granddaughter.

Keith L. Buboltz
NAPLES, FLA. - Keith Layne Buboltz, 47, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Bird Island, died Saturday after a battle with cancer.
His memorial service was Tuesday at Shepherd of the Glades Lutheran Church in Naples. Memorials to Hospice of Naples are preferred.
He was a graduate of Bird Island High School and a graduate of Southwest State University in Marshall with a bachelor's degree in business. He moved to Naples in 1979. He was owner of The Thirsty Mouse in Tin City and longtime maintenance supervisor of Harmony Shores Mobile Home Park, both of Naples.
He was a member of Shepherd of the Glades Lutheran Church, serving as president of the church and chairman of the Sunday School Education Committee.
He is survived by his wife Diane; parents Charles and Lorrie of Bird Island; children Jeremy of Naples, Jessica of Naples, Kimberly Eatros of Naples, Toni Eatros (and husband Scott Rose) of Seattle, Wash.; brothers Gregory (and Lori) of Wahpeton, N.D., Robin (and Jane) of Naples, Timothy of Bird Island and other relatives.

Martha M. Rusch
May 19, 1901 - July 17, 2000
BUFFALO LAKE - Martha M. Rusch, 99, of Buffalo Lake died Monday at Buffalo Lake Health Care Center.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Zion United Methodist Church in Buffalo Lake. Burial will be in Zion Evangelical Cemetery, Buffalo Lake.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church, and one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Hughes Funeral Home in Hector.
She was born May 19, 1901, in Martinsburg Township, Renville County, to Ferdinand and Fredricka (Ebert) Koenig. She attended District 71 school in Martinsburg Township and Globe Business College in St. Paul. She was employed by Farmers Bank of Buffalo Lake.
On June 14, 1921, she married Herbert A. Rusch in Buffalo Lake. They operated Rusches-IGA Grocery Store from 1939 to 1961. Herbert died Nov. 7, 1987. She moved to Buffalo Lake Health Care Center in 1991.
She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, active in the ladies organization and as pianist for church singing groups. She was past president of Buffalo Lake American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her son Gordon (and Gladys) Rusch of New Ulm; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; half sister Myra Lindquist of Olivia and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Virginia J. Hultman
July 29, 1923 - July 17, 2000
GRANITE FALLS - Virginia Juliet Hultman, 76, of Granite Falls died Monday at Granite Falls Municipal Hospital after a battle with cancer.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Granite Falls Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bob Knutson officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls, and visitation also will be one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born July 29, 1923, in Hanley Falls to Emil and Alvina (Johnson) Kittelson. She attended school in Hanley Falls and Granite Falls.
On Sept. 19, 1943, she married Howard Hultman in Sacred Heart.
She worked as an election judge for many years and was a member of Granite Falls Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband, her daughter Margot (and Chuck) Schellenbarger of Montevideo, three granddaughters, sister LaVera Hackett of Fullerton, Calif., and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.

Cathy A. Fox
July 13, 1954 - July 16, 2000
BENSON - Cathy Ann Fox, 46, of Benson died Sunday at Fairview-University Medical Center in Minneapolis after a three-month illness with cancer.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson with the Rev. Steven Verhelst officiating. Burial and graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D., and are being handled by the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City, S.D.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. parish prayer service, at Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born July 13, 1954, in Rapid City, S.D., to Billie Dean and Marilyn (Moen) Geiver. She graduated from Rapid City Stevens High School in 1973.
On Aug. 9, 1980, she married Richard Fox in Rapid City. In 1990, they moved from Spokane, Wash., to Benson.
They were foster parents to 26 children. She attended St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson.
She is survived by her husband; son Cameron Fox of Benson, daughter Dawn Fox of Benson; her parents of Rapid City, S.D.; sister Christy (and Roy) Clanton of Millington, Tenn.; foster children Eric, Patrick, Rachel, Rita, Amanda, Charity, Alexander, Greg and many others; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, one brother, one sister and two foster children.
