Aug. 14, 1946 - July 22, 2000
KERKHOVEN - Terry Lee Larson, 53, of Kerkhoven died unexpectedly Saturday.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kerkhoven Evangelical Free Church with the Rev. Tom Latterell and the Rev. Todd Olson officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Harvey Anderson Kerkhoven Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born Aug. 14, 1946, in Swift County to Robert and Ida (Roslien) Larson. He was a 1964 graduate of Kerkhoven High School.
On June 29, 1985, he married Marie Marcus in Willmar. He was the Kerkhoven postmaster from 1985 until his death.
He was a member of Kerkhoven Golf Course improvement committee, was a former City Council member and had served on the Rescue Squad. He served in the National Guard and was a member of American Legion Brenden Johnson Post 223 of Kerkhoven. He was a member of Kerkhoven Evangelical Free Church, serving on church council, and was Sunday School secretary-treasurer. They were custodians at the church.
He is survived by his wife; children Randy Larson (and fiancée Sara Medalen) at home; daughter Jenny Larson at home; and mother Ida Larson of Willmar.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Jerome J. Renner
Dec. 21, 1930 - July 23, 2000
HUTCHINSON - Jerome John Renner, 69, of Hutchinson, formerly of Stewart, died Sunday at Glencoe Area Health Center.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery in Fernando.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hughes Funeral Home in Stewart, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his wife; four children including Judy (and Bill) Grimm of Hector; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; mother; three brothers, one sister and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.

Harold L. Bengtson
Sept. 16, 1911 - July 23, 2000
NEW LONDON - Harold Lester Bengtson, 88, of New London died Sunday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church in New London with the Rev. Duane Semmler officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery in New London.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home in New London.
He was born Sept. 16, 1911, in Lake Andrew Township, Kandiyohi County, to Carl and Emma (Sundquist) Bengtson. He attended District 108 grade school.
On Feb. 17, 1946, he married Hattie Kvamso at Sunburg. They farmed near Lake Florida, moving into New London six years ago. Hattie died in May 1996. He moved to Glen Oaks in 1996.
He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his sister Ethel Hjelle of New London and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Tom Deitz
Jan. 14, 1941 - July 25, 2000
SPICER - Tom Deitz, 59, of Spicer died Tuesday at his home after an extended battle with cancer.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer with the Rev. Simon Fensom and the Rev. Scott Gjevre officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born Jan. 14, 1941, in Willmar to Earl and Bernice (Olson) Deitz. He lived in the Willmar, Minneapolis and Alexandria communities. He was a 1959 graduate of Jefferson High School and attended Moorhead State. He was employed by Coca-Cola for 27 years and owned Shorewood Gallery the past 14 years.
He was a member of Minnesota Waterfowl Association and a barbershop chorus and quartet.
He is survived by his wife Trudy; daughter Nancy (and David) Zimmermann of Watertown, Wis.; son Steven (and Amy) Deitz of Alexandria; four grandchildren; sister Lynn Jorgenson of Plymouth; brother Scott (and Renee) Deitz of Alexandria and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Patricia M. Mott
May 30, 1936 - July 24, 2000
LITCHFIELD - Patricia May Mott, 64, of Litchfield, died Monday at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Litchfield.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Church of St. Anastasia in Hutchinson with the Rev. Bill Sprigler officiating. Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield, and 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
She was born May 30, 1936, in Cook County, Ill., to Earl and Margaret (Galvan) Blank. She was a 1954 graduate of Harvard High School in Harvard, Ill., and a 1957 graduate of Saint Anthony Nursing School with a registered nurse degree.
In October 1957, she married Francis E. Mott in Harvard, Ill. They lived in Rockford, Ill., where she was employed as a nurse by St. Anthony Hospital from 1957-58. They moved to Loves Park, Ill., in 1958, to Fridley in 1966, and to Coon Rapids in 1967. In 1969 they moved to Hutchinson where she was employed as a nurse by Hutchinson Hospital. In 1975 she became employed as a nurse by 3M until 1984. In 1990 she moved to Phoenix, Ariz., and in 1996 to Litchfield.
She was a member of Lioness Club and Diabetes Club, both of Hutchinson, and Fare Share Organization.
She is survived by her daughters Karen (and Rodney) Mead of Hutchinson, Cindy (and Frank Wandzel Jr.) Mott of Richfield; son David (and Maureen) Mott of Tampa Bay, Fla.; two grandchildren; former husband Frank Mott of Hutchinson; mother Margaret Blank of Harvard, Ill.; sisters June (and Gary) Binder of Sheridan, Ore., Mary Margaret Coaker of San Jose, Calif., Francis (and John) August of Fond du Lac, Wis., and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father and one brother.

Shirley J. Anderson
Aug. 16, 1933 - July 25, 2000
ATWATER - Shirley Jean Anderson, 66, of Atwater died Tuesday in Willmar.
Her memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Atwater United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Werner officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Atwater.
Visitation will be two hours prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Atwater Funeral Home.
She was born Aug. 16, 1933, in Pierpont, S.D., to Xenophon and Margaret (Schultis) Folsom. She graduated from Pierpont High School and received her nursing degree from Appleton College. She lived in Paynesville two years.
On Jan. 10, 1961, she married Alvin Larsen, and they lived in Grove City. They moved to Atwater in 1963. Alvin died in 1975. In March 1985, she married Ralph Anderson, and they lived in Atwater. Ralph died in 1993. She moved to Limon, Colo., where she cared for terminally ill individuals. In May 1999, she returned to Atwater.
She was a member of Atwater United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her son Paul (and Connie) Larsen of Atwater; daughters Laurie Dilley of Atwater, Julie (and Jeff) Coontz of Limon, Colo.; stepsons Steve Anderson of New Hope, Charles (and Adair) Anderson of St. Paul; stepdaughter Becky (and Lee) Albrecht of Litchfield; 18 grandchildren; brother Donald (and Bev) Folsom of Mesa, Ariz., and sister Beverly Flagtwet of Britton, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands.

Ethel V. Heitke
Oct. 19, 1913 - July 25, 2000
PAYNESVILLE - Ethel Viola Heitke, 86, of Paynesville died Tuesday at Paynesville Area Hospital.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville with the Rev. Ric Koehn officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in rural Paynesville.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born Oct. 19, 1913, in Paynesville to Albert and Anna (Gehrke) Heitke. They moved to Fergus Falls and then returned to the Paynesville area where she attended Harding School District 139. She graduated from high school in 1933 and attended college in Litchfield, St. Cloud State University and Colorado, graduating with a bachelor's degree in elementary education.
She taught schools in rural Paynesville, Kimball, Belgrade, Hoffman, Elbow Lake and Alexandria, retiring after 46 years in 1977.
She was a former member of Salem Church near Paynesville and a current member of Grace United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her sisters Delores Heitke of Paynesville, Doris Monson of Paynesville, Irene Schindel of Oconto Falls, Wis.; brother Clinton (and Vivian) Heitke of Hamel and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Doreen C. Shea
NEW LONDON - Doreen Claire Shea, 44, of New London, formerly of Duluth, died Monday as the result of an automobile accident in Stearns County.
Her memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Fond du Lac Community Church in Duluth.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Bell Brothers Funeral Directors (800-770-5745).
She was born in Duluth and was a graduate of Morgan Park High School. She lived in Hoyt Lakes and Denver, returning to Duluth in 1988. She lived in the Willmar area the past year. She was employed by Cub Foods of Duluth and currently was pricing manager at Cub Foods of Willmar.
She was a former member of Fond du Lac Community Church.
She is survived by her sons Matthew (and Tara) Kopp of Minot, N.D., Marc Kopp of Minneapolis; parents Ardis and Robert Shea of Duluth; sister Cathy (and Mark) Thro of Duluth; brothers Jon (and Patty) Shea of North Pole, Alaska, Mike Shea of International Falls; two grandsons; former husband Larry Kopp of Plymouth and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Carol E. (VanDenEinde) Metcalf
Dec. 13, 1936 - July 21, 2000
EDEN PRAIRIE - Carol E. Metcalf, 63, of Eden Prairie died unexpectedly Friday.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St Andrew's Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Holcomb-Henry-Boom North Chapel in Shoreview (651-482-7606), and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born Dec. 13, 1936, in Roseland Township, Kandiyohi County, to Lawrence and Nellie VanDenEinde. She was a longtime employee of Rosemount Engineering.
She is survived by her son Brent (and Janel) of Woodbury; daughter Cheryl (and Will) Nafstad of Cottage Grove; two grandchildren; brothers Donald (and Mary Lou) VanDenEinde of Willmar, Wallace (and Marlys) VanDenEinde of Willmar; sister Ruth (and Larry) Palmer of Danube and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Eldon Rohs
March 3, 1922 - July 25, 2000
ST. CLOUD - Eldon Rohs, 78, of St. Cloud died Tuesday at St. Benedict's Center in St. Cloud.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in St. Cloud. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, with a Masonic prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids, and for one hour prior to the services at the church.
He was born March 3, 1922, in Langdon, N.D., to William and Eliza (McRoden) Rohs. He was raised by his uncle and aunt, Gail and Ruth Anspach of Montevideo following his mother's death when he was 5. He graduated from Montevideo High School in 1940 and attended the University of Minnesota.
He was a navigator in the 8th Air Force on B-17 bombers during World War II. He was shot down and spent 16 months as a POW in Stalag Luft 1 prison camp in Barth, Germany. As a 1st Lieutenant, he was recalled to active duty for the Korean Conflict and flew 55 missions as a combat radar instructor. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Presidential Unit Citation and other decorations for his terms of service.
He married Erna Yock of Clara City on June 14, 1946. He worked for Northern States Power Company in Montevideo and St. Cloud for 42 years, retiring in 1983. They spent their winters in Winter Haven, Fla.
He was a member of Sunset Lodge AF-AM 109 where he served as Master twice, was on the Masonic Home Board for several years and in the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a former member and trustee of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo, a life member of Ex-POW's and DAV, and member of the Florida Grey Eagles Flying Club.
He is survived by his wife; daughter Colleen (and David) Gardner of Plano, Texas; son Dr. Thomas (and Katy) Rohs of New Prague; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Norlen H. Gades
June 4, 1928 - July 24, 2000
HOLLOWAY - Norlen Henry Gades, 72, of rural Holloway died Monday at home.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairfield Township, rural Holloway, with the Rev. George Sagissor III officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Survivors include wife Phyllis; two daughters; two sons, including David (and Dawn) Gades of Holloway; brothers Wilbert (and Mary) Gades of Starbuck, Ronald (and Shirley) Gades of Starbuck, Gerald (and Kris) Gades of Villard, Roger (and Marlene) Gades of Montevideo; sisters Lyndell (and Jurn) Lindahl of Starbuck and Marjorie (and LeRoy) Reuss of Benson.

Adam L. Winters
March 1, 1984 - July 25, 2000
PAYNESVILLE - Adam Lee Winters, 16, of Paynesville died Tuesday in an automobile accident.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville with the Rev. Richard Leisen officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery near Regal.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, with parish prayers at 7:30 p.m., at Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville, and for one hour prior to the services at the church.
The family prefers memorials.
He was born March 1, 1984, in Crookston to Randy and Karen (Smith) Winters. He was baptized and confirmed at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston. His family moved to Paynesville in 1987, and he attended Paynesville High School.
He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church where he was a Mass server and a member of the youth group. He was a Cub scout, a member of the Paynesville football team and a past member of the Paynesville Legion baseball team.
He is survived by his mother, Karen Smith of Paynesville; his father, Randy Winters of Waite Park; brother Matthew Winters of Paynesville; grandfather Cyril Winters of Regal and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Don and Letty Smith and Jeanette Winters.

Kenneth W. Orstad
March 6, 1940 - July 25, 2000
WILLMAR - Kenneth W. Orstad, 60, of Willmar died Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar with the Rev. Fred Jensen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
He was born March 6, 1940, in Littlefork to Henry and Bernice (Raboin) Orstad. He graduated from Falls High School in International Falls in 1958. He attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Dunwoody Institute and the Hobart Institute of Technology.
He married Alicia Nelson on July 20, 1968, in Grygla. They lived in Willmar where he was an industrial welding instructor at Ridgewater College for 32 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of the Plumbers, Steamfitters and Pipefitters 771, and volunteered with the Boy Scouts and youth hockey. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church where he was active in the choir, the worship and music committee and also was an usher.
He is survived by his wife; sons Steven (and Amy) Orstad of Eagan and Mark Orstad of Willmar; sisters Evelyn (and Kenneth) Hultman of International Falls, Vivian (and John) Rapaway of International Falls, Genevieve (and Bob) Laukka of Temeeula, Calif.; and brothers Clifford Orstad of International Falls and Henry (and Mary) Orstad of International Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bernard F. Brummer
Dec. 31, 1915 - July 26, 2000
CLARA CITY Bernard F. Brummer, 84, of Clara City died Wednesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7:45 p.m., at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Clara City, and for one hour prior to the services at the church.
He was born Dec. 31, 1915, to Upka and Tepje (Groote) Brummer in Stoneham Township, Chippewa County. He attended District 37 school.
He married Etta Poppen on Nov. 12, 1946, in Clara City. They grew registered and certified seeds south of Clara City until 1973. They moved into Clara City in 1978, and he helped in his sons small engine repair shop.
He is survived by his wife; daughter Shirley (and Larry) Klassen; sons John and Dennis and two grandchildren, all of Clara City.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
