Emma Oberbrockling
June 15, 1901 - July 26, 2000
GLENWOOD Emma Oberbrockling, 99, of Glenwood died Wednesday at the Lakeview Good Samaritan Center.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Glenwood with the Rev. Tom Becker officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Calvary Cemetery in Currie.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the church, and for one hour preceding the service. Arrangements are with Hoplin Funeral Home, Glenwood.
She was born June 15, 1901, in Fenton Township, Murray County, near Iona, to George and Margaret (Gans) Oberbrockling. She attended St. Columbas School in Iona. She kept house for her brothers most of her life. They moved to Glenwood in 1950 and lived on a farm. She entered Lakeview Care Center in 1992.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters.

Violet B. Sjoquist
Dec. 2, 1919 - July 26, 2000
WILLMAR Violet Bernice Sjoquist, 80, of Willmar died Wednesday at Rice Care Center in Willmar.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
She was born Dec. 2, 1919, in Jackson County to Engebright and Mina (Nasby) Winden. She graduated from Willmar High School in 1938.
She married Manford Sjoquist on Oct. 31, 1938, in Milbank, S.D. They lived in Willmar, and she was a secretary for the Home Gas Company.
She was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Ladies Circle, and she was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
She is survived her children Brian (and Val) Sjoquist of Maple Grove, Diane (and Lanny) Ingvoldstad of Milton, Fla., and Belle (and Russ) Milner of Willmar; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and brother Charles Winden of Arden Hills.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband on Feb. 27, 1972.

Arly O. Swanson
Feb. 13, 1918 - July 25, 2000
GRANITE FALLS Arly Ordell Swanson, 82, of Granite Falls died Tuesday at his home as the result of the tornado.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Church of Christ in Granite Falls. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Lynner Funeral Home of Clarkfield is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born Feb. 13, 1918, in Swede Prairie Township, rural Clarkfield, to Oscar and Annie (Lindstrom) Swanson. He attended country school in rural Clarkfield.
He married Marian Bradt on Sept. 24, 1938, at Clarkfield. They farmed until moving into Granite Falls on Jan. 2, 1981.
He was a member of the Granite Falls Lutheran Church.
He is survived by daughter Karen (and Cecil) Lade of Zimmerman; son Larry, of Gill, Colo.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren, 12 stepgreat-grandchildren and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on March 3, 1994, one sister and two brothers.

Elizabeth C. Schwartz
Nov. 18, 1912 - July 27, 2000
WOOD LAKE Elizabeth Caroline Schwartz, 87, of Wood Lake died Thursday in the Granite Manor in Granite Falls.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo, and for one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born Nov. 18, 1912, in Minnesota Falls Township, Yellow Medicine County, to William and Martha (Kirschbaum) Shroeder. She finished her education at Granite Falls Public School.
On Sept. 19, 1934, she married Conrad Schwartz. They lived on a farm east of Wood Lake before moving ino Wood Lake in 1976. She was a homemaker, worked as a telephone operator and did laundry for Granite Falls Hospital.
She was active in the St. Johns Womens Society, Wood Lake Centennial Committee and the March of Dimes.
She is survived by her husband; children Lois (and Leland) Bruss of Roseville, Arvid (and Judy) Schwartz of Green Isle, Sharon (and Kenneth) Ebert of Cannon Falls, and Jerome Schwartz of Wood Lake; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother and two sisters.

Norlen H. Gades
June 4, 1928 - July 24, 2000
HOLLOWAY - Norlen Henry Gades, 72, of rural Holloway died Monday at his home.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfield Township, rural Holloway, with the Rev. George Sagissor III officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris.
He was born June 4, 1928, to Herman and Anna (Carstens) Gades. He attended District 48 rural school. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Alaska, from 1951-53.
On April 11, 1954, he married Phyllis Elaine Thielke in Stevens County. They farmed in Fairfield Township.
He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he held various offices.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Susan (and James) Kaiser of Bouake, Cote d'Ivoire, West Africa, Jeanette (and David) Meggers of Rockford, Ill.; sons James (and LuAnn) Gades of North Branch, David (and Dawn) Gades of Holloway; 11 grandchildren; brothers Wilbert (and Mary) Gades of Starbuck, Ronald (and Shirley) Gades of Starbuck, Gerald (and Kris) Gades of Villard, Roger (and Marlene) Gades of Montevideo; sisters Lyndell (and Jurn) Lindahl of Starbuck, Marjorie (and LeRoy) Reuss of Benson and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Dale A. Rust
July 4, 1953 - July 26, 2000
TERRACE - Dale A. Rust, 47, of Terrace, died Wednesday.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church in Terrace with the Rev. Eileen Mehl officiating. Burial will be private.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hoplin Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born July 4, 1953, in Glenwood, Pope County, to DeWayne and Pearl (Daniels) Rust. He was a 1971 graduate of Glenwood High School and attended Willmar Junior College's law enforcement program. He was employed by the Soo Line Railroad, and he farmed.
On Dec. 4, 1976, he married Margaret Walsh. He retired from the railroad in 1986 and started farming full-time. He was a 1993 graduate of University of Minnesota, Morris, with a degree in geology. In May 1996, he began employment with Douglas County Land and Resource Management Office.
He was a member of West Central Muzzleloaders Club.
He is survived by his wife; mother Pearl Rust of Glenwood; sons Michael (Walsh) Rust of Minneapolis, Paul Rust of Terrace; daughter Theresa Rust of Minneapolis; brothers Bruce Rust of Anoka, Robert (and Kathy) Rust of Grove Lake; grandmother Elsie Devitt of Glenwood and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, grandfather Gilman Rust, stepgrandfather Irvin Devitt, and grandparents Nellie and Carl Daniels.

Elmer Nordby
July 5, 1911 - July 12, 2000
MINNEAPOLIS - Elmer Nordby, 89, of Minneapolis died July 12.
His funeral was July 14 at Hillside Memorium Funeral Home in Minneapolis with the Rev. Verle Henriksen officiating.
He was born July 5, 1911, in Minneapolis to Ingvar and Tillie Nordby. During his younger years he lived in Sunburg where his father had a blacksmith shop.
On April 1, 1939, he married Gladys Palmeson. They lived in Brooten, Benson and Minneapolis where he was employed as a heavy equipment operator in Road Construction Local 49.
He is survived by his wife; sons David (and Louise), Dennis; daughters Jean (and Bill) Schauppner, Sharon (and Ben) Neimi; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Emma P. Henrikson
June 22, 1905 - July 27, 2000
WADENA - Emma Pauline Henrikson, 95, of Wadena, formerly of Litchfield, died Thursday at Shady Lane Nursing Home in Wadena.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield with the Rev. Murray Jacobson officiating. Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.
Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services Monday, at the funeral home.
She was born June 22, 1905, in Hutchinson to Chris and Louise (Prochnow) Jepson. She attended school in Hutchinson through the eighth grade.
On April 16, 1930, she married Harlow Henrikson in Hutchinson, where they lived. In 1940, they moved to Ellsworth Township, Meeker County, where they farmed. In 1948, they moved to Harvey Township where they farmed. In 1951, they moved to Swede Grove Township where they farmed. Harlow died in 1970. In 1971, she moved to Litchfield, and in 1992, she moved to Wadena.
She was a member of Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Wadena.
She is survived by her son Floyd (and Pat) Henrikson of Wadena; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister Gusta Hanke of Merrifield and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister.

Winifred E. Donovan
WILLMAR - Winifred Esther Donovan, 78, of Carrollton, Ky., formerly of Willmar and Sioux City, Iowa, died of cancer July 15 at Green Valley Health and Rehab Center in Carrollton.
Her funeral was July 19 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Carrollton with the Rev. Matt Young officiating. Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton. Memorials may be directed to Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar or St. Peter Lutheran Church in Carrollton.
Arrangements were with Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton.
She was born July 19, 1921, in Willmar to Harry and Jennie (Dickson) Ney. She was a graduate of Willmar High School and St. Cloud Business College in St. Cloud.
She moved to Sioux City after she married. She was employed as a chef at Green Gables many years and later was employed as a medical assistant by the office of Harrington, Horsley and Wagner. She returned in 1977 to Willmar where she was employed as supervisor of medical transcription by Rice Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and played the organ. She was a charter member of Sweet Adelines International-Willmar area chapter, past president of Woodbury County Association of Medical Assistants, Senior Citizens of Willmar, and was a Salvation Army volunteer.
She is survived by her daughters Marguerite Bandza of Carrollton, Mary Ann (and Wayne) Pearson of Carrollton; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Rolfe L. Highland
Aug. 4, 1908 - July 28, 2000
GLENWOOD - Rolfe L. Highland, 91, of Glenwood died Friday at the Lakeview Good Samaritan Center in Glenwood.
A Masonic and Eastern Star Service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the Hoplin Funeral Chapel, Glenwood, followed by a worship service officiated by the Rev. Robert Coffman. Burial will be Tuesday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
He was born Aug. 4, 1908, in Briceland to Cornelius and Osta (Rusted) Highland. He graduated from Glenwood High School in 1926. He enrolled in electronics at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. He worked for IBM, developing the first computer while working in Chicago from 1930-35.
In 1935, he married Ulga Kolconay in Chicago. They lived in Duluth from 1935-37. He was in the U.S. Army and was stationed at the Federal Cartridge Plant as customer engineer in 1942. In 1943, he went to Washington, D.C., where he receiving a security clearance of top secret. After military discharge, he and his wife lived in Minneapolis for the next 30 years. From 1955 to 1973 he worked for Unisys as an electrical engineer. In 1975, his first wife died. He married Mildred Morten. He worked for IBM.
He is survived by stepchildren Marjorie (and Hana) Engebretson of Glenwood, Pauline (and Rob) Coffman of Oak Park, Ill., Jim (and Rose) Morton of Ocoee, Fla., Edith "Pete" (and Norman) Tice of Wichita, Kan., Ona (and Wayne) Pinosonneault of St. Paul, Albert of St. Paul, John R. "Duffy" (and Judi) Morton of Glenwood, and other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his parents, both wives and a sister.

Arlene Jerve
Nov. 6, 1929 - July 28, 2000
MONTEVIDEO - Arlene Janet Jerve, 70, of Montevideo died Friday at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.
Her memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with the Rev. Warren Broughton officiating.
Anderson Funeral Home of Montevideo is in charge of funeral arrangements.
She was born on Nov. 6, 1929, in Yellow Medicine County to Melvin and Agnes (Kittelson) Lund. She graduated from Montevideo High School in 1947.
On March 6, 1948, she married Marvin Jerve in Montevideo. She worked as a clerk at the ASCS office in Chippewa County before retiring.
She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher.
She is survived by her husband; sons Ronald (and Gail) Jerve, Bruce (and Melva) Jerve and Dave (and Chris) Jerve, all of Montevideo; daughter JoAnn (and Kris) Kolstad of Willmar; 10 grandchildren; brother Gerald (and Jan) Lund of Montevideo; sister Losi (and John) Dyshaw of Montevideo and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

Clifford M. Schrock
Jan. 20, 1920 - July 29, 2000
APPLETON - Clifford Michael Schrock, 80, of Appleton died Saturday at the St. Cloud Hospital.
His memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton with the Rev. George Sagissor officiating. Burial will be in the Appleton City Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. The Vaala Funeral Home of Appleton is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Jan. 20, 1920, in Swift County to Herman and Maria (Porsch) Schrock. He attended parochial school in Shible Township. He joined the Navy in 1937 and served until the end of World War II in 1945.
In 1945, he married Violet R. Block. He worked as a mechanic at Hallings Ford Garage in Milan. In 1955, they moved to Crosby-Ironton where he worked as a machinist in the iron mines. He later moved back to Appleton to start his own business as a auto mechanic. He also worked part-time as an Appleton policeman. Until his retirement in 1982, he worked as a custodian at the Appleton Elementary School.
He is survived by his wife; daughter Bonnie Beyer of Hopkins; son Glen Schrock of Hopkins; two grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; sisters Erna (and Chester) Larson of Appleton and Anna Rheingans of Salinas, Calif., and other relatives.
His is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers.

Luella L. Fuetterer
May 2, 1912 - July 29, 2000
WILLMAR - Luella L. Fuetterer, 88, of Willmar died Saturday at the Heritage Nursing Home.
Her funeral will be Thursday at the Christ Lutheran Church in Hot Springs Village, Ark. Burial will be in the Cedar Vale Cemetery in Hot Springs Village. Her memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at Vinje Lutheran Church with the Rev. Barbara Johnson officiating.
Local arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home, Willmar.
She was born May 2, 1912, in Manitowoc, Wis., to Alfred and Emma (Foreman) Mott.
On June 7, 1930, she married Walter G. Fuetterer. They lived in the Chicago area until their retirement in 1974, when they moved to Hot Springs Village, Ark. In January 1999, she moved to Sunrise Village in Willmar.
She was active in many organizations in Westchester, Ill., including the PTA, Westchester Community Church Women's groups and a garden club.
She is survived by her daughter Sharlene (and Oliver) Hagen of Spicer; son Walter G. Jr. (and Eva Mae) Fuetterer of Columbus, Ind.; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and sisters Esther Berndt of Milwaukee, Wis., and Irene Byle of Pelican Lake, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1992, a brother and three sisters.
