ANCHORAGE, Alaska - James "Jim" Richardson, 54, of Anchorage, Alaska, died June 28 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
His funeral was July 5 at Abbott Loop Community Church in Anchorage.
He was born June 12, 1946, in Willmar. He was a 1964 graduate of New London-Spicer High School and graduated from Macalester College in 1968. He moved to Nome, Alaska, in 1969 and to Anchorage in 1970.
He was an elder in Abbott Loop Community Church for many years and was later ordained a pastor.
He is survived by his wife, Cassie; daughters Rachel (and Richard) Irwin of Anchorage and Susie (and John) Ingalls of Anchorage; son Robby of Anchorage; mother, Pat Richardson, of Anchorage; brother Steve (and Teresa) Richardson of Valdez, Alaska, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Richardson.

Lowell 'Guy' Hillyer
Feb. 26, 1934 - Aug. 1, 2000
WILLMAR - Lowell Augustas "Guy" Hillyer, 66, of Willmar died Tuesday at Infinia Nursing Home of Willmar.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar with the Rev. Joe Steinbeisser officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Visitation is one hour prior to the service.
He was born Feb. 26, 1934, in Thief River Falls to Gus and Margaret (Meyers) Hillyer. He graduated from Thief River Falls High School in 1952. He worked on the family farm before being employed in the restaurant, food and hospitality business. He moved to Willmar in 1956 and worked for Fireside Inn, Holiday Inn, Cash Wise catering and most recently for the Kandi Entertainment Center and Simons Restaurant.
He is survived by brothers Irvin Hillyer of Carbondale, Ill., and James (and Florence) Hillyer of Thief River Falls; sister Anne (and Robert) Kraemer of Thief River Falls and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Rachel Arne
Feb. 25, 1899 - Aug. 1, 2000
BENSON - Rachel Arne, 101, of Benson died Tuesday at the Swift County-Benson Hospital.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson with the Rev. Roger Olness officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
She was born Feb. 25, 1899, in Plainfield, Ill., to Nils and Karen (Ness) Anfinson. The family moved to Benson when she was 13. She worked at the Bluebird Café in Benson.
In 1928, she married Monrad Arne in Benson. They took over the Anfinson farm in 1929. They moved to Benson in the 1930s, and she worked for various restaurants. She retired from Sandy's Café at the age of 83. She moved into North Homestead in Benson three years ago.
She is survived by her son Vernon (and Viola) Arne of Brimson; daughter-in-law Jean Arne of Benson; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; and sisters Lydia Huston of Benson and Amy (and Kenneth) Crabb of Coon Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1937, son Raymond and two grandsons.

Velma Fries
July 20, 1914 - Aug. 3, 2000
WILLMAR Velma Fries, 86, of Kandiyohi died Thursday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Kandiyohi with the Rev. Bill Bowles officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, with parish prayers at 7:45 p.m., at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born July 20, 1914, in Adam County, Iowa, to Lars and Julia (Osheim) Retland. She moved away from home to attend high school and graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1932. She worked with the family she lived with at their law office helping with secretCourier work.
On May 1, 1935, she married Francis Fries in Emmetsburg, Iowa. They farmed in Emmetsburg and Algona, Iowa, until 1958. They moved to Minnesota where they farmed in various communities including Murdock, Svea and Lake Lillian before retiring and moving into Kandiyohi in March 1964.
She was a member of the Kandiyohi Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her children Myrna (and Earl) Solberg of Ames, Iowa, Robert (and Carol) Fries of St. Joseph, Dennis (and Dawn) Fries of Kandiyohi, Ginny (and Dennis) Rafdal of Ankeny, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers Lloyd Retland of Des Moines, Iowa, and Harold (and Verna) Retland of Freemont, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband on July 18, 1991, daughter Darlene Walker and two brothers.

Katherine C. Hughes
July 1, 1905 - Aug. 2, 2000
DARWIN Katherine Cecilia Casey Hughes, 95, of Darwin died Wednesday at the Bethany Nursing Home in Litchfield.
Her funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Church of St. John in Darwin with the Rev. Joel Kelly and the Rev. Pat Casey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a Daughters of Isabella rosary at 4 p.m. and prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield.
She was born July 1, 1905, in Minneapolis to Michael and Katherine (Lyons) Lanigan. She graduated from Minneapolis Central High School in 1924.
She married Eugene Casey on Feb. 25, 1930, in Minneapolis. They lived in Minneapolis. Eugene died July 12, 1950.
She married Raymond Hughes on Nov. 10, 1957, in Darwin. They lived in Darwin. Raymond died July 19, 1990.
She was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church in Darwin and the Daughters of Isabella.
She is survived by her daughters Patricia (and Marcellus) McMullen of Darwin, Kathleen (and Norman) Meier of Onamia, Carol (and Leon) Schumacher of South Haven; son Richard (and Kathy) Casey of Coon Rapids; son-in-law Gerald Kelly of Litchfield; sister Bernice Hanson of Minneapolis; 24 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by both husbands, daughter Mary Jean Kelly and four brothers.

Wayne H. Wolf
Dec. 25, 1925 - Aug. 1, 2000
DAWSON Wayne Herbert Wolf, 74, of Dawson died of leukemia Tuesday at his home.
His funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with the Rev. Kendall Stelter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 5 p.m. followed by the Masonic Rites, at the Hanson and Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.
He was born Dec. 25, 1925, in Armstrong, Iowa, to Herbert and Ruth (Ammons) Wolf. He attended high school in Armstrong and graduated with a chemistry degree from Buena Vista College in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He worked in the laboratory for General Mills in Belmond, Iowa.
He married Grace Landon on March 10, 1950. They lived in Bowling Green, Rossford and Perrysburg, all in Ohio; in Boone, Iowa, and Dawson.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years.
He is survived by his wife; his sons Tim (and Sandy) of Milwaukee, Wis., Brian (and Deana) of Wooster, Ohio; daughters Susan (and Jon) Roisen of Dawson and Cynthia (and Kevin) Gilman of Poulsbo, Wash; daughter-in-law Ann Wolf of West Des Moines, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; sisters Ethel (and Lawrence) Andersen of Weaverville, Calif., Dorothy (and Raymond) Schoentrup of Mesa, Ariz., and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Beulah I. Starrett
July 8, 1917 - Aug. 2, 2000
BUFFALO LAKE Beulah Ione Starrett, 82, of Hutchinson, formerly of Buffalo Lake, died Wednesday at Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson.
Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hughes Funeral Home in Hector. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in rural Buffalo Lake.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
She was born July 8, 1917, in Bingham Lake to Irving and Eva Lee (Merrifield) Smith. She attend Bingham Lake schools.
She married Ray Starrett on Feb. 15, 1937, in Iowa. They lived in the Mountain Lake area until 1938, when they moved to a farm south of Hector. They moved to a farm south of Buffalo Lake in 1942. In 1996, she moved to the Park Towers in Hutchinson and in 1998 to the Burns Manor Nursing Home.
She is survived by her daughter Donna (and Don) Kalkbrenner of Spicer; sons Douglas (and Sharon) Starrett of Hutchinson, Donald (and Janet) Starrett of Denver, Michael (and Gladys) Starrett of Costa Mesa, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters Marvel Manfull of Tama, Iowa, and Cleo Holyer of Mountain Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1973, two brothers, one sister and one great-grandchild.

Jerald J. Damhof
Jan. 29, 1938 - Aug. 3, 2000
WILLMAR Jerald John Damhof, 62, of Willmar died Thursday at his home.
His memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar with the Rev. Craig Engel officiating. Burial will be in Roseland Reformed Cemetery.
He was born Jan. 29, 1938, at Roseland to John and Johanna (DeVries) Damhof. He grew up in the Roseland area before attending the Hammer School in Wayzata and a school for the handicapped in Faribault. He later moved to the R.E.M. Home in Redwood Falls where he lived and worked until 1987. He moved to Willmar where he lived in various homes provided by Harlo Homes, which was changed to R.E.M. South Central, Inc. He worked at West Central Industries in Willmar until he retired in August 1999.
He is survived by his sisters Hilda Ammerman of Willmar, Angeline Hardin of Knoxville, Iowa, Wilma Hoekstra of Pella, Iowa, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Luverne J. Hillenbrand
Oct. 10, 1929 - Aug. 3, 2000
WILLMAR - Luverne J. Hillenbrand, 70, of Willmar died Thursday at the St. Cloud Hospital.
His funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Christian Reformed Church with Dr. Al VanDellen officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
He was born Oct. 10, 1929, near Roseland, to John and Harriet (Negen) Hillenbrand. He grew up in the Roseland and Blomkest areas where he attended school.
On Aug. 15, 1951, he married Donna Groen in Renville. He entered the U.S. Army in August 1951 and was discharged May 27, 1953. He was a Purple Heart recipient. He operated Hillenbrand Floor Covering and later became a partner in Hillenbrand Larson Floor Covering. Most recently he worked for Carpet Kingdom.
He was member of the Christian Reformed Church in Willmar, where he served as an elder, deacon, Sunday School teacher and Friendship Bible Study teacher. He was also on the building and grounds committee for a number of years. He and his wife served as janitors at the church since 1984. He was treasurer for the Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life and also attended the DAV.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Jimmy (and Deb) Hillenbrand of Spicer, Wayne (and Lonie) Hillenbrand, Kathryn Hillenbrand, Michael (and Barb) Hillenbrand, all of Willmar, Susan (and Barry) Mustain of St. Stephen, and David (and fiancée Julie Feldman) Hillenbrand of Willmar; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Melbourne (and Gerri) Hillenbrand of Rapid City, S.D., Roger (and Judy) Hillenbrand of Willmar, Robert (and Jeanette) Hillenbrand of Blomkest, Joan Johnson of Hector and Virginia (and Marlyn) Gilbertson of Willmar, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a great-grandson .

Lowell Miller
Jan. 10, 1915 - Aug. 3, 2000
DAWSON - Lowell Miller, 85, of Dawson, died Thursday at the Johnson Memorial Home.
His funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Dawson Covenant Church in rural Dawson with the Rev. John Norland officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
He was born Jan. 10, 1915, in Maxwell Township, Lac Qui Parle County, to Aaron and Lillian (Soblom) Miller. He attended country school in Maxwell Township.
He married Melvern Anderson on Nov. 10, 1935. They farmed in Yellow Medicine and Lac Qui Parle counties before moving to Dawson in 1990. They moved to the Johnson Memorial Home in February 2000. He was active in the Farmers Union and the Dawson Covenant Church and served on the Farmers Co-op Elevator Board for more than 27 years.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Paul (and Jeanne) of Sauk City, Wis., and Gary (and Arlene) of rural Dawson; two daughters, Beverly (and Harry) Botten of Montevideo and LaVonne (and Virgil) Mogard of Olivia; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy (and Arne) Jordahl and Myrtle (and Wesley) Anderson of Dawson, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Florence M. Dyrssen
Oct. 20, 1908 - Aug. 4, 2000
OLIVIA - Florence M. Dyrssen, 91, of Olivia, died Friday at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia.
Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Olivia with the Rev. Mark Sattler officiating. Burial will be at the Olivia Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
She was born Oct. 20, 1908, to Gustof and Agnes (White) Ziesmer. She attended rural Olivia school. She married John Dyrssen on Jan. 6, 1931. She worked as a cook at nursing homes for many years. She was active in the Ladies Aid at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
She is survived by three children, Ron (and Ruth) Dyrssen of Olivia, Roger (and Myrna) Dyrssen of Vista, Calif., and Ruth (and Jim) Martin of Olivia; 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Richard, a granddaughter, two sisters and three brothers.

Olga J. Larson
May 3, 1910 - Aug. 5, 2000
PAYNESVILLE - Olga J. Larson, 90, of Paynesville, died Saturday at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville.
Her services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Crystal Hills Assembly of God Church, rural Paynesville, with the Rev. Lonnie Gleitz officiating. Burial will be in the East Irving Mission Cemetery, rural Paynesville.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Johnson Funeral Home of Paynesville, and one hour before services Tuesday at the church.
She was born May 3, 1910, near Paynesville, to Ingvald and Gertrude (Johanessen) Langseth. She grew up on a family farm in Meeker County, and attended school at District 24 and 19. On May 29, 1928, she married Lewis Larson in Litchfield. They lived in Melby for a short time. In 1930, they moved to New London and to Hawick in 1945. Lewis owned and operated Larson Repair with Olga by his side. He died June 5, 1991. Olga moved to Paynesville in 1991.
She was a member of the Crystal Hills Assembly of God Church.
She is survived a son, Harvey (and Lois) of Backus; daughters Norma (and Harold) Mathison of Park Rapids and Pat (and Mike) Sorenson of Sunburg; sons-in-law Norman Bork of Paynesville and Alan Person of Paynesville; 18 grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, an infant son, Donald; daughters, Genora Bork, Arlis Person and Lenore Kuether; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren; three brothers; and five sisters.

Stephen Edward Vilven
March 14, 1914 - Aug. 5, 2000
WILLMAR - Stephen Edward Vilven, 86, of Willmar, died Saturday at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
His memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar with the Rev. Perry Wieland officiating.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.
He was born March 14, 1914, in Crookston to Charles and Jessie (Owens) Vilven. He graduated from Crookston High School and worked on farms in the Crookston area. He moved to California where he worked for the Lockheed Aircraft Company. On Sept. 3, 1943, he married Mary Brundage. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII and later joined the U.S. Air Force. He was a recruiter for the Air Force in Willmar for the last seven years of his 22 _ years in the military. After retiring from the military in 1966, he worked as a driver's license examiner in Duluth. They moved to Farmington, N.M., in 1980 and to Willmar in 1992. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Masons.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Charles (and Shelly) of Spicer and Keith of Willmar; two daughters, Birdie L. Swenson of Willmar and Stephania Vilven of Willmar; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Milo (and Mildred) of Crookston and David (and Joan) of Farmington, N.M.; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter in infancy and one sister.

Elvin Koenen
Nov. 16, 1925 - Aug. 5, 2000
WILLMAR - Elvin Koenen, 74, of Willmar, died Saturday at the Infinia Health Care Center.
His service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Calvary Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ron Burke officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Peterson Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on Nov. 16, 1925, in Clara City to Sinus and Edna (Gerdes) Koenen. He attended rural Clara City schools. He married Rosa F. Grothe on Sept. 29, 1956. He worked at various times as a farmer, for an implement company and as a truck driver. He worked for Champlin Oil Co. for eight years and at the Cenex Company in Willmar for 12 years.
He is survived by one son, Russell (and Deb) of Clarks Grove; a stepgrandson; and a sister, Ellen (and Gordon) Lane of Willmar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a son, Richard.
