GLENWOOD - Kathleen "Kathy" Welch, 57, of Glenwood died Friday at the Glenwood Retirement Village.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bob Lewis and Chaplain James Gronewold officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Hoplin Funeral Chapel in Glenwood.
She was born March 20, 1943, in Montevideo to E. Vincent and Dorothy (Smith-Nemitz) Thompson. She graduated from Glenwood High School in 1961 and from the University of Minnesota-Morris in 1968.
On June 15, 1968, she married Ronald Welch. They resided in Louisiana and California before returning to Glenwood in 1973. She lived with multiple sclerosis for 34 years.
She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her son Kyle of St. Cloud; brother Edward (and Patti) Thompson of Forada; and sister Janice (and Ron) Hopkins of Stillwater.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983 and her parents.

Wanda D. Braaten
April 18, 1930 - Aug. 11, 2000
STARBUCK - Wanda DeLaine Braaten, 70, of Starbuck died Friday at the Glenwood Retirement Village, Glenwood.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fron Lutheran Church, Starbuck. Burial will be in East Zion Cemetery, rural Starbuck.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hoplin Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born April 18, 1930, in Carlos Township, Douglas County, to Walter and Frances (Anderson) Affeldt. She graduated from Alexandria High School.
On March 15, 1952, she married Odell Braaten in Alexandria.
She is survived by her husband of Glenwood; her sons Royce of Stillwater and Brad (and partner Randy Udell) of Madison, Wis.; daughters DeLaine (and Donald) Vogel of Dilworth and DeAnn (and Shiraz) Suleman of Redmond, Wash.; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; brothers Roger (and Carol) Affeldt of Alexandria and Marlin Affeldt of Fargo, N.D.; sisters DeLoyce Novak of Garfield and Ardys Pantlin of Pueblo, Colo.
She is preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Karen and two sisters.

Annella J. Wahldick
Aug. 26, 1930 - Aug. 11, 2000
SPICER - Annella Josephine Wahldick, 69, of Spicer, formerly of Morton, died Friday at her home.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Chapel in Redwood Falls. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery in Arlington.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
She was born Aug. 26, 1930, in Arlington to Leo and Elizabeth (Brass) Meyers. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1948.
On April 10, 1954, she married Harry Wahldick in Arlington. After her husband's discharge from the service, they settled in Madison and then moved to Mankato and Bixby. They moved to Morton in 1959. She moved to Spicer in 1985.
She was a former member of St. John's Altar Society in Morton.
She is survived by her children Michael Wahldick of Franklin, Nancy Billmeier of Redwood Falls, Mark Wahldick of Franklin, Patti (and Roger) Jenniges of Redwood Falls; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and former husband Harry Wahldick of Morton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

Burnell J. Henriksen
Sept. 14, 1939 - Aug. 12, 2000
BOYD - Burnell John Henriksen, 60, of Boyd, died Saturday at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd with the Rev. Tim Lindhorst officiating.
Visitation will be this afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
He was born Sept. 14, 1939, in Hurley, S.D., to John and Bertha (Sorenson) Henriksen. He attended Hurley rural schools. His family later moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., and he attended schools there.
On Feb. 17, 1980, he married Betty Anderson in Watson. He worked as a heavy equipment operator on construction and owned and operated the Watson Café for a short while before retiring.
He is survived by his wife; children Kevin (and Tamie) Henriksen of Fort Madison, Iowa, Kurtis (and Gloria) Henriksen of Mitchell, S.D., and Kristina (and Toby) Kraft of Nauvoo, Ill.; stepchildren Galen Kittelson of Montevideo, Debbie (and Chuck) Rich of Ohio, Larry Kittelson of Montevideo and Ronald (and Lorie) Kittelson of Montevideo; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

James A. Hansen Jr.
Nov. 29, 1927 - Aug. 11, 2000
GRANITE FALLS - James A. "Bud" Hansen, Jr., 72, of Granite Falls died Friday at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew Catholic Church with the Rev. Jim Devorak officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the church. Wing-Bain Funeral Home, Granite Falls, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Nov. 29, 1927, in Onamia to James Sr. and Wanda (Grabski) Hansen. He graduated from high school in Granite Falls. He then attended South Dakota State University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1947.
On Aug. 8, 1948, he married Kathryn Johnson in Granite Falls. He was self-employed, operating James A. Hansen Construction Company in Granite Falls for many years.
He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and served for 17 years on the board of directors for the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital and Manor. He also was a member of the Granite Falls American Legion and VFW.
He is survived by his children Terri (and George) Colvill of Pocatello, Idaho, Michelle Hansen of Rochester, Janelle Hansen of Medford, Minn., and Tim Hansen of Medford, Wis.; his mother of Clara City; brother LuVerne (and Margie) Hansen of Granite Falls; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and his wife.

Helen M. Sherlin
Nov. 10, 1917 - Aug. 12, 2000
GLENWOOD - Helen M. Sherlin, 82, of Glenwood died Saturday at the Glenwood Retirement Village.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the All Saints Chapel of the Glenwood Retirement Village with Chaplain James Gronewald officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoplin Funeral Chapel, Glenwood.
She was born Nov. 10, 1917, in Glenwood to Charles and Mary (Erlandson) Shermak. She graduated from Glenwood High School in 1935 and attended beauty school in the Twin Cities. She returned to Glenwood where she worked as a grocery clerk for Harry Anderson, at the Glenwood Theatre for the Longakers, and at the Haldorson Brothers hardware store. From 1938 to 1945, she worked for Dr. Witt and Dr. Swedenberg.
On June 4, 1944, she married Wallace Sherlin in Glenwood. She worked for Berglin's Flowers.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Drill Team, GLCW, Glenwood Lutheran Church choir, was a Sunday School teacher, and a member of Bridge Club and Sewing Club.
She is survived by her husband; son James (and Betty) Sherlin of Glenwood; daughter Barb (and friend Dave) Goodrich of Winona; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, one in infancy.

George B. Burnett
July 3, 1942 - Sept. 12, 2000
MAPLEWOOD -- George Brinton Burnett, 58, of Maplewood, summer resident of Glenwood, died Tuesday at Bethel Care Center in St. Paul from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrigs disease.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Hoplin Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with the Rev. Eric Thorson officiating. Burial will be in Fron Lutheran Cemetery in Starbuck.
He was born July 3, 1942, in Walpole, Mass., to George and Francene (Smith) Burnett. He was a graduate of Deerfield Academy, Amherst College and earned his masters degree at University of Minnesota. In 1970 he married Edda Johnson in Minneapolis. He was employed by Metropolitan Council and later by Minnesota Department of Transportation as a computer applications specialist.
He is survived by his wife; and sisters Emily Wagner of Houton, Mich., Francene Jones of Walpole, Mass., and Sarah Roper of Hartsville, S.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jack C. Franklin
Aug. 16, 1916 - Sept. 13, 2000
REDWOOD FALLS -- Jack Compton Franklin, 84, of rural Redwood Falls, died Wednesday on the family farm in Renville County.
Private family services will be held today. Arrangements are with Sunset Funeral Home in Echo.
He is survived by four children including Richard (and Janet) of Willmar; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife Glenrae (Scheunert) Franklin on Aug. 11, 1971, parents, and one sister.

Dale L. Fremo
April 1, 1945 - Sept. 13, 2000
NASSAU -- Dale Lester Fremo, 55, of Nassau, died Wednesday.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd with the Rev. Tim Lindhorst officiating. Burial will be in St. Petri Cemetery in Camp Release Township, Lac que Parle County.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., with 7 p.m. prayer service, Sunday, at Lynner Funeral Home.
He was born April 1, 1945, in Hillsboro, Wis., to Gordon and Irene (Driefke) Fremo. He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School. He served in the Navy during the Viet Nam War. He lived in California, Kansas and Colorado Spring, Colo., moving to Minnesota in 1990. In 1997 he married Anne Ninneman Longhenry. The lived in Boyd, moving to Nassau in September, 1999. He was employed by Nassau Farmers Elevator.
He is survived by his wife; step-sons Gerald (and Dotty) Longhenry of Hartford, S.D., James (and Keri) Longhenry of Volga, S.D., Jon (and Jennifer) Longhenry of Cottonwood, Jay (and Louisa) Longhenry of Clarkfield; step-daughter Joan Longhenry of Shakopee; his mother-in-law; seven step-grandchildren; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and step-father Norman Olstad.

Robert L. Carlson
EDEN VALLEY -- Robert Leon Carlson, 68, of Eden Valley, died Thursday at Paynesville Hospital.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Hawick United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ruth Lovejoy officiating. Burial will be in Roseville Cemetery near Hawick.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born Oct. 21, 1931, in Minneapolis, to Myrtle (Clark) and Odin Trom. He lived in Minneapolis, and New London and Hawick areas. On Aug. 1, 1952, he married June Gross in Minneapolis, where they lived. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. They moved to Coon Rapids in 1968, to Kimball in 1977, and to the Eden Valley area in 1983. He was a heavy equipment operator for Klaster-Madsen Construction over 20 years, and was employed on a power line special unit several years by NSP. He was a member of Coon Rapids American Legion.
He is survived by his wife; sons Robert of Minneapolis, Gene of Eden Valley, Blake of Litchfield; daughters Dawn (and Paul) Perez of Coon Rapids, Susan Carlson of Minneapolis, Colleen Smetak of Caspian, Mich., Roxanne Carlson of Kimball, Shelly (and Ken) Quast of Hutchinson; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Nancy (and Don) Donner of Wisconsin; and step-sisters Mary (and Del) Harris of Minneapolis, Jean (and Ben) Laitinen of Maple Grove, and Marcella (and Doug) Blomberg of South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Brian, two grandchildren, and one step-brother.

Twila S. Jensen
March 22, 1924 - Sept. 14, 2000
WILLMAR -- Twila Blanche (Sebert) Jensen, 76, of Willmar, died Thursday at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hope Presbyterian Church in rural Spicer with the Rev. Terry Sletto officiating. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born March 22, 1924, in Kansas City, Mo., to Chester Carl and Anna Blanche (Huvliman) Sebert. She was a 1942 graduate of Shawnee High School. She worked in a government defense plant during World War II. On Oct. 28, 1944, she married John H. Jensen in Olathe, Kansas. They lived in Lancaster, moved to McLouth, Kansas, in 1948, and to Willmar in 1957. She was employed as an LPN by Willmar State Hospital, retiring in 1985 after 27 years of employment. She was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church serving as deacon, choir member, and Presbyterian Women Church Group member. She was a volunteer in the OB area at Rice Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her husband; children Nancy (and Verne "Bub") Coss of Spicer, Kirk (and Clare) Jensen of Fargo, N.D.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers.

Caroline Cornell
Sept. 16, 1910 - Sept. 14, 2000
OLIVIA -- Caroline Marie Cornell, 89, of Olivia died Thursday at her home.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Faith United Methodist Church in Olivia. Burial will be in Olivia Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church and for one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Sept. 16, 1910, on the family farm north of Olivia to Adolph and Mary (Tupa) Dostal. She attended rural School District 117 and graduated from Johnson High School in St. Paul in 1928. She attended teacher's training in St. Paul, graduating in 1929.
On Nov. 16, 1937, she married Alva Raymond "Pat" Cornell in Olivia. They farmed her family farm. After her husband died in 1961, she continued to farm with her son. She was active in the Farmers Union and was active in the Older Americans Volunteer programs. She was a member of the Olivia Senior Citizens and was a long-time chairwoman. She was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church and its Miriam Circle.
Survivors include a son, Charles (and Durene) Cornell of Olivia; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Theodore (and Frances) Dostal of Cleveland, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters and one brother.

Gertrude O'Brien
March 16, 1905 - Sept. 14, 2000
BENSON -- Gertrude Helen O'Brien, 95, of Benson died Thursday at the Homestead South Care Center in Benson.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. Burial will be in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Benson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with rosary at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the funeral on Monday.
She was born March 16, 1905, in Marysland Township, Swift County, to Louis and Mary C. (Stelzig) Bach. She grew up and attended District 62 country school in Marysland Township.
On Sept. 2, 1924, she married Robert J. O'Brien in Danvers.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Robert) Yost of Murdock; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and five sisters.

Anna Gunderson
April 8, 1916 - Sept. 15, 2000
WILLMAR -- Anna Gunderson, 84, of Willmar died Friday afternoon at her daughter's home in Buffalo, following an extended illness.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Willmar with the Rev. Joe Steinbeisser officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with parish prayers at 7 p.m. at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
She was born April 8, 1916, in Green, Iowa, to John E. and Nellie M. (Weatherwax) Heveron. She grew up and attended school in Grove City.
On Aug. 16, 1935, she married Otis A. Gunderson in Litchfield. They made their home in Willmar. She was employed in the laundry at Rice Memorial Hospital for several years. She moved to Buffalo in February to live with her daughter.
Survivors include daughters, Marjorie (and Frank) Belinsky of Willmar, Loretta (and Chuck) Fradella of Monticello and Karen (and David) Caskey of Buffalo; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otis, in 1978; a daughter, Julie Gunderson; a granddaughter; two brothers; and two sisters.
