KAUKAUNA, Wis. - LaVone A. (Johnson) Gimse, 79, of Kaukauna, Wis., formerly of Willmar, died Sunday.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar with the Rev. Brent Waldemarsen officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in Atwater.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born Nov. 29, 1920, in Kandiyohi to Rudolph and Hilda (Anderson) Kroona. She attended school in Kandiyohi.
She married Robert Johnson.
On March 29, 1969, she married Roy Gimse.
She was active in the DAV Auxiliary and was a former member of the Church of God in Willmar.
She is survived by daughters Carol (and James) Schmirler of Combined Locks, Wis., and Kathy Morgan of Lake Mills, Wis.; stepsons Dennis Gimse (and Diane Gold) of St. Louis Park, Jerry (and Peggy) Gimse of Spicer and Joseph (and Lanae) Gimse of Willmar; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and infant grandson.

Virgel F. Straus
July 1, 1920 - Sept. 18, 2000
MONTEVIDEO - Virgel Frances Straus, 80, of Montevideo died Monday at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital.
Her funeral will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Montevideo with the Rev. Jim Dvorak officiating. Burial will be Friday morning at St. Clara Catholic Church Cemetery in Clara City.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the service Thursday at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Montevideo.
She was born July 1, 1920, in Crate Township, Chippewa County, to Ralph and Helen (Zurn) Sanderson. She attended country school in Crate Township.
On July 6, 1938, she married Henry Straus in Clara City. They farmed in Chippewa County, retiring in 1973 and moving to Montevideo.
She is survived by sons Eugene (and Mary) Straus of Willmar and Dennis (and Jeanne) Straus of Chaska; daughters JoAnn (and Bob) Christenson of Montevideo and Dorine Franzmeier of Benson; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1989, one sister and one brother.

Ruth Tjosaas
Nov. 14, 1924 - Sept. 18, 2000
BENSON - Ruth Delores Tjosaas, 75, of Benson, died Monday at the Meadow Lane Health Care Center in Benson.
Her funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church of Benson with the Rev. Roger Olness officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born Nov. 14, 1924, in Six Mile Grove Township, Swift County, to Walter and Rosa (Hamner) Smith. She attended school in the Benson area, graduating in 1942.
On Aug. 8, 1943, she married Homer T.B. Tjosaas in Cashel Township, Swift County. She sold Stanley Home products for a number of years. From 1966-73 she worked for Fingerhut in Benson. She worked as a cook at Meadow Lane Health Care Center in Benson and managed the Sales Barn Café.
She was a 4-H club leader, a charter member of the Shamrock Hest Riding Club, a member of the Women of the ELCA and a Sunday School teacher.
She is survived by her husband; sons Ronald (and Bonnie) Tjosaas of Benson and Danny (and Linda) Tjosaas of Long Prairie; daughter Rosalie (and Bob) McGee of Benson; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother Robert (and Dorothy) Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo., and sister Irena Canon of Benson.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mitchell Q. Larson
April 27, 1981 - Sept. 16, 2000
BUFFALO LAKE -- Mitchell Quentin Larson, 19, of Buffalo Lake died Saturday as a result of a motor vehicle accident in East Lake Lillian Township.
His funeral was Wednesday at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson with the Rev. Andy Michels officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Arrangements were with Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson.
He was born April 27, 1981, in Hutchinson to Quentin and Jolene (Moldestad) Larson. He was a 2000 graduate of Buffalo Lake High School. He was a freshman at Ridgewater College-Willmar campus, enrolled in the carpentry program. He was employed by K&S Millwrights Inc. of Buffalo Lake.
He was a member of Ducks Unlimited.
He is survived by his mother Jolene Reck (and Tod) of Buffalo Lake; father Quentin Larson (and Pam) of Hutchinson; sisters Lyndsay and Britany Larson; stepbrothers and stepsisters Michael and Michelle Reck, Sean and Tammy Lindahl; grandparents Kate Moldestad, Ivan and Mary Larson; stepgrandparents Wesley and Lois Reck, Dan Totushek; special friend Katie Fluher and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Clifford Moldestad.

John G. Almquist Sr.
Jan. 26, 1927 - Sept. 18, 2000
DULUTH -- John G. Almquist Sr., 73, of Duluth, formerly of Willmar, died Monday at St. Mary's Medical Center.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Elim Lutheran Church in rural Barnum. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials to Elim Lutheran Church or American Lung Association are preferred.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Bell Brothers Funeral Directors in Duluth (800-770-5745).
He was born Jan. 26, 1927, in Chamberlain, S.D., to the Rev. Gilbert and Elsie (Hempel) Almquist. He was a 1994 graduate of Willmar High School and served in the Army Specialized Training Reserve Program. He was a 1949 graduate of Augsburg College in Minneapolis with a bachelor's degree, and a 1962 graduate of University of North Dakota-Grand Forks with a master's degree. He taught high school science and math in Nome and Wrangell, Alaska, Cokato and Willmar. He taught chemistry at Willmar Community College from 1962-85.
On Aug. 19, 1950, he married Mabel Ryan in Minneapolis.
He worked with the Boy Scouts of America and Civil Air Patrol while living in Alaska. He served in a variety of offices with the Minnesota Junior College Faculty Association and was active in church.
He is survived by his wife; children John Jr. "Jack" (and Cathy) Almquist of Willmar, Susan (and Tom) Grabinski of Troy, Mont., Tom (and Melissa) Almquist of Roseville, Bob (and Renita) Almquist of Chehalis, Wash.; brothers: the Rev. James (and Beverly) Almquist of Golden Valley, the Rev. Paul (and Pearl) Almquist of Shoreview; seven grandchildren and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Dennis F. Fenstra
Aug. 11, 1957 - Sept. 9, 2000
LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Dennis Francis Fenstra, 43, formerly of Minneapolis, died Sept. 9 in Las Vegas, Nev.
His graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Bridget Catholic Cemetery in DeGraff.
Arrangements are with Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.
He was born Aug. 11, 1957, in Minneapolis to Henry and Mary Ann Fenstra. He was employed in construction as a heavy-equipment operator. He lived in Las Vegas the past two years.
He is survived by his companion Deborah Smith of Las Vegas, Nev.; son Mark Bertram and daughter Lisa Bertram, both of Forest City, Iowa; mother, brothers Thomas and Kenneth, and sister Diane, all of Las Vegas, Nev.; and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Rickey M. Ruiz
Feb. 16, 1968 - Sept. 19, 2000
WILLMAR -- Rickey Miro Ruiz, 32, of Willmar died Tuesday at Fairview-University Medical Center in Minneapolis following an extended illness.
His funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar with the Rev. Beverly Crute officiating.
Visitation will be from noon until time of services at the funeral home.
He was born Feb. 16, 1968, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Karen (Feldman) and Delmiro Ruiz. His attended school in the Renville area. He later attended Southwest State University in Marshall and St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, pursuing a degree in child psychology. He worked for area farmers and also was employed part-time at the Willmar VFW. He lived at Benson Health Care Center in Benson the past month.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather Karen Ruiz and Gerald Klang of Willmar; fiancée Michele Juncewski of Willmar; daughter Kali of Willmar; maternal grandparents John and Tynie Feldman of Willmar; stepbrothers Jerry Klang of Renville, Kenneth Klang of Howard Lake, Frank Klang (and fiancée Julie Schmidt) of Willmar, Jeff Klang of Willmar, Scott Klang of Willmar; stepsisters Debbie (and Dean) Lanners of Lake Lillian, Diane (and Bob) Kline of Willmar and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, and grandparents Frank and Augustina Ruiz and Elsie Feldman.

Stanley D. Sievert
April 6, 1930 - Sept. 19, 2000
BELGRADE -- Stanley Donald Sievert, 70, of Belgrade died Tuesday at Belgrade Nursing Home.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Belgrade with the Rev. Carl Listug officiating. Burial will be in Grace Lutheran West Cemetery in Belgrade.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born April 6, 1930, in Brooten to Elmer and Esther (Wenlund) Sievert. He was a 1948 graduate of Glenwood High School, had Normal Training in Glenwood and taught for two years. He later graduated from St. Cloud State University, receiving his bachelor's degree and master's equivalency.
On Aug. 23, 1953, he married Irene Holte in Elbow Lake. They lived in Alexandria, Miltona, Grey Eagle and Belgrade. He worked as a teaching principal and elementary principal, retiring in 1989. He continued working as a school consultant. They wintered in Apache Junction, Ariz.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, and a former member of Lions Club. He was a member of Minnesota Education Association, Minnesota Principals Association, and Minnesota Principals Association 25 Year Club. He served on the Belgrade Nursing Home board, and Belgrade City Council for 15 years.
He is survived by his wife; mother; sons David of Bemidji, Mark (and Amy) of Fergus Falls, Tim (and fiancée Becky Haugen) of Mankato; four grandchildren; brother Stuart (and Becky) Sievert of Duluth and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Ida C. Norstedt
Aug. 11, 1911 - Sept. 19, 2000
WILLMAR -- Ida C. Norstedt, 89, of Willmar, died Tuesday at her daughter's home in Plymouth.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in New London with the Rev. Duane Semmler officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery in New London.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home in New London and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born Aug. 11, 1911, in Sunburg to Carl and Christi (Lokken) Sagedahl. She attended Arctander Township Country School. She lived in Willmar where she was employed by Nelsen's Laundry for 24 years.
On April 6, 1946, she married Roy Albin Norstedt. She was employed as a laundry supervisor by Willmar State Hospital.
She was a member of Retired State Employees Association, and a member of Sons of Norway more than 20 years.
She is survived by her daughter Connie (and Greg) Korstad of Plymouth and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband in March 1986, an infant daughter, parents and three sisters.

Dennis L. Priebe
Nov. 7, 1939 - Sept. 18, 2000
FARGO, N.D. -- Dennis LeRoy Priebe, 60, of Fargo, N.D., died Monday at Deaconess Health Center in Northwood, N.D.
His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lutheran Church of Christ the King in Moorhead.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home of Fargo.
He was born Nov. 7, 1939, in Clara City to Henry and Lucille (Prekker) Priebe. He was educated in Clara City and served in the U.S. Navy from 1957-60.
In 1961, he married Judith Schur in Willmar, where he was employed as a salesman by a welding supply company. He then became a partner with his brother in the Kendeco Welding Supply Company of St. Cloud, which later had a branch office in Fargo.
On June 14, 1975, he married Audrey Kucera in St. Cloud. They sold the business in 1980, after which he sold real estate with Century 21 of Fargo. They moved in 1984 to California, where he sold real estate, returning to Fargo in 1995.
He is survived by his wife; children Wendy (and Vern) Envik of Moorhead, Gregory (and Lynn) Priebe of San Diego, Calif., Michelle Priebe of Mankato, Vicky Williams of Moorhead and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and son Ross.

Lillian V. Patterson
April 19, 1908 - Sept. 18, 2000
DeGRAFF -- Lillian Veronica Patterson, 92, of DeGraff died Monday at Swift County-Benson Hospital.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Bridget Catholic Church in DeGraff with the Rev. Ronald Huberty officiating. Burial and graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester with the Rev. Frisch officiating.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a 5:30 p.m. rosary and 6:30 p.m. parish prayers, at Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born April 19, 1908, in Kildare Township, Swift County, to William and Adeline (Brooks) Dineen. She was a 1926 graduate of Benson High School ant attended teacher's training. She taught school in Swift and Lincoln counties until 1944.
On June 28, 1939, she married Christy Gegan in DeGraff. Christy died in June 1943. She moved to Rochester in 1944 and was employed as a medical secretary by Rochester State Hospital.
On Jan. 8, 1947, she married Glen Patterson in Decorah, Iowa. She retired in 1966, and they moved to Wabasha. Glen died in December 1985. She moved to DeGraff in 1998.
She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg, St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary, Church Women United, Kellogg American Legion, Wabasha VFW, St. Agnes CCW, Audubon Society of Winona, River Junction Arts, Greenfield Citizens Drive, serving as chairman for 25 years, and Church of St. Bridget Mission Ladies.
She is survived by her brothers Leonard Dineen of DeGraff, Clarence Dineen of Jacksonville, Fla., Robert Dineen of DeGraff; sisters Blanche Hughes of Benson, Isabelle (and John) Byrne of DeGraff; stepson Glenn (and Grace) Patterson of Las Cruces, N.M.; five stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by both husbands, parents, two brothers and two sisters, one in infancy.

Marlene R. Flannigan
Jan. 7, 1944 - Aug. 20, 2000
MESA, Ariz. -- Marlene Romayne Flannigan, 56, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Benson, died Aug. 20 at Mesa, Ariz.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Six-Mile Grove Cemetery in rural Benson with the Rev. Keith Born officiating.
There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.
She was born Jan. 7, 1944, to Marvin and Hazel (Martinson) Brekke. She attended school in Benson. After graduation she attended St. Cloud Beauty College and Apollo College in Arizona.
On April 11, 1964, she married Dwayne Flannigan in Benson. They moved to Morris where she worked at the Villa of St. Francis and Stevens County Hospital. The couple divorced in 1987, and she moved to Mesa, Ariz., where she worked at Casa Blanca Clinic and Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
She is survived by her sons Darren Flannigan and Derek Flannigan, both of Cold Spring, and one granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Jayne (Finstad) Gossman
March 27, 1931 - Sept. 20, 2000
PRESTON -- Jayne Ilene Gossman, 69, of Preston died Wednesday at the home of her daughter in Granger.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Columban Catholic Church in Preston with the Rev. Thomas Loomas officiating. Burial will be Monday in Sunburg. (Call 507-772-4497 for information).
Visitation will be 5 to 8:30 p.m. today, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston (507-765-3813) and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born March 27, 1931, in Sunburg to Richard and Marian (Swenson) Finstad. She was a graduate of Benson High School.
On Aug. 16, 1958, she married Robert "Bob" Gossman in Preston. They lived in several areas around the country, settling in Preston in 1972.
She was a member of St. Columban Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband; sons Jeffrey (and Leslie) Gossman of Spotsylvania, Va., Richard (and Michelle) Gossman of Lime Springs, Iowa, Robert James Gossman of Stewartville; daughters Sheila (and Ricky) Whitmer of Manassas, Va., Victoria (and Jeffery) Johnson of Granger; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers Carl (and Violet) Finstad of Crystal, Kermit (and Barbara) Finstad of Gettysburg, Pa.; sister Geraldine Wadsworth of Spicer and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
