Olga A. Falness

DAWSON -- Olga Augusta Falness, 91, of Dawson died Saturday at Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lac qui Parle Lutheran Church in rural Dawson.
Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.
She was born Aug. 8, 1909, in Lac qui Parle Township, Lac qui Parle County, to Thomas and Albertina "Tina" (Grobel) Melde. She attended District 4 rural school.
On March 1, 1928, she married Roy Falness in Glenwood. They lived in Austin for two years, and then farmed in the Dawson area, retiring into Dawson in 1975. She moved to Johnson Memorial Home.
She is survived by her children Delores (and Curtis) Erickson of Savage, Donna Anderson of Great Falls, Mont., Elton (and Nancy) Falness of Dawson, Russell (and Betty) Falness of Mound, Betty (and Richard) Golden of Isle, Roy (and Judy) Falness of St. Louis Park, David (and Colleen) Falness of Dawson; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband on Dec. 7, 1981, one grandson, son-in-law Stanley Anderson, two brothers, two sisters and two half brothers.
Agnes Ytterboe

WILLMAR -- Agnes Ytterboe, 100, of Willmar, formerly of Bird Island, died Monday at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar.
Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bird Island. Burial will be in Palmyra Lutheran Cemetery in Palmyra Township.
Visitation will be from noon until services Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with Hughes Funeral Home in Hector.
She was born April 26, 1900, in Palmyra Township, Renville County, to Thyke and Gunhild (Norskog) Ytterboe. She was a 1918 graduate of Hector High School, and attended normal school one year. She taught school for two years, was a caregiver for her family from 1920-52, and then was employed as a proofreader by West Publishing of Minneapolis. She moved to Clara City in 1992, and then moved to Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar.
She is survived by her sisters-in-law Marie Ytterboe of Madelia, Kay Ytterboe of California and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and four sisters.
Caroline W. Jacobson

PAYNESVILLE -- Caroline W. Jacobson, 93, of Paynesville died Sunday at Good Samaritan Care Center in Paynesville.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Paynesville Lutheran Church in Paynesville with the Rev. Jeff Bergman officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Grove City.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today at Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born March 20, 1907, in Eden Lake Township, Stearns County, to Albert and Caroline (Freitig) Kadelbach.
On March 22, 1930, she married Arnold Jacobson in New London. They farmed in Harvey Township for 10 years and then purchased their own farm in Grove City. They later moved to Paynesville for three years and in 1955 moved to Hutchinson. Arnold died in 1975. She returned to Paynesville in 1986. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Paynesville Lutheran Church and ladies aid.
She is survived by daughters Eunice (and Harold) Rosenow of Rockville, Eloise (and Eugene) Pope of Bagdad, Ariz., Audrey (and DuWayne) Schramel of Paynesville, Doris (and Larry) Pelkey of Buhl, Jeanne (and Donald) Liestman of Paynesville, Janet (and Daniel) McGee of Chino Valley, Ariz., Barb (and Leon) Trochinski of Picket, Wis., Mary Gregor of St. Cloud; 32 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; brothers Herb Kadelbach of Buffalo Lake, Christ Kadelbach of Hutchinson and sister Martha Anderson of Litchfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, two sisters and four grandchildren.
Henry J. Ampe

PAYNESVILLE -- Henry J. Ampe, 87, of Paynesville died Sunday at Good Samaritan Care Center in Paynesville.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville with the Rev. Richard Leisen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with 8 p.m. parish prayers followed by a St. Louis Knights of Columbus 3820 service at 8:30 p.m., at Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville, and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials are preferred.
He was born Feb. 2, 1913, in Ghent to Celeste and Cornelia (Moorse) Ampe. He farmed in the Paynesville area all of his life.
He was a member of the St. Louis Knights of Columbus Council 3820 and a lifetime member of St. Louis Catholic Church.
He is survived by his brothers John Ampe of Watkins, Charlie Ampe of Paynesville and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
Ella R. Olsen
Jan. 13, 1910 - Jan. 19, 2001
BELGRADE -- Ella R. Olsen, 91, of Belgrade, formerly of Auburn, Wash., died Friday at the Belgrade Nursing Home.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Crow River Lutheran Church, rural Belgrade, with the Rev. Michael DeKraai officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Johnson Funeral Home of Belgrade is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Jan. 13, 1910, in Burbank Township, near Belgrade, to Tobias and Emma (Thorson) Renebo. She graduated from Belgrade High School in 1927. She graduated from the St. Cloud Teachers College in 1934. From 1934 to 1950, she taught in several schools in Minnesota and for one year in Phoenix. She moved to Seattle in the early 1950s, where she also taught school.
On July 14, 1962, she married Axel Olsen in Auburn. They owned and operated the Lake Dolof Blueberry Farm in Auburn for many years. He died in 1970. She retired in 1996 and moved to the Belgrade Nursing Home in March 2000.
She was a member of the Crow River Lutheran Church.
She is survived by three nephews including Lowell Haugen of Belgrade, one niece and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and eight brothers and sisters.
Clayton Pechacek

ELLENDALE -- Clayton Pechacek, 84, of Ellendale, formerly of Willmar, died Monday at Owatonna Hospital.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Ellendale with the Rev. Arne Halbakken officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Military honors by Albert Lea veterans organizations.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Bonnerup Funeral Service in Ellendale (800-204-2461).
He was born Feb. 25, 1916, in Hope to Frank and Martina (Meland) Pechacek. He attended Ellendale country school. He was a buttermaker. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-45 and received the bronze star and good conduct medal.
On Jan. 4, 1944, he married Helen Miller in Ellendale. They moved in 1947 to Willmar where he and his brother owned and operated Quality Dairy. He operated the Meat Center and Locker Plant, was employed by the highway department and later employed in maintenance at Rice Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1981. They returned to Ellendale in 1993.
He was a member of Willmar Chamber of Commerce, Eagles, VFW, American Legion, Bremer Friends and Vinje Lutheran Church, serving on council and as a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Ellendale.
He is survived by his wife; children Louise Marie (and Charles) Avery of Forest Lake, Donna (and Mark) Proeschel of Grand Rapids, Karen Pechacek (and husband Patrick Murphy) of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers Andrew (and Phyllis) Pechacek of Albert Lea, Emil (and Gladys) Pechacek of West Concord; sisters Martha (and George) Standinger of Plainview, Emma Johnson of Owatonna and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter and six brothers.
Mary E. Johnson

SPICER -- Mary Elizabeth Johnson, 69, of Terril, Iowa, formerly of Spicer, died Monday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Her memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer with the Rev. Scott Gjevre and the Rev. Simon Fensom officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Jackson.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer.
She was born May 4, 1931, in Estherville, Iowa, to Oswald and Ruth (Hainer) Krause. She was a 1949 graduate of Jackson High School, and a graduate of Sioux Valley Training Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., with an registered nursing degree. She was employed by Daniel Freeman Hospital in Torrance, Calif.
On April 4, 1961, she married Gordon Johnson in Torrance, where they lived. They moved to the Spicer area in 1969. She was employed as night supervising registered nurse at Willmar Regional Treatment Center until 1974. She then worked with her husband at Gordy's Meats in Spicer until 1987. They moved to Terril in 1997.
She helped organized the Spicer First Responders. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and Spicer American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her son Mark (and Dannel) Johnson of Brooklyn Park; daughters Mary Johnson of Terril, Anne (and Christopher) Loerzel of Terril, Judy Johnson of Brainerd; eight grandchildren; brother Hugh Krause of Willmar; twin sister Gretchen (and Charles) Melody of Minneapolis; sister Susan (and George) Patterson of Castro Valley, Calif., and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband in 1999.
Clifford M. Steberg

WILLMAR -- Clifford M. Steberg, 85, of Willmar died Monday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Green Lake Free Lutheran Church in rural Spicer with the Rev. Victor Young officiating. Burial will at 1 p.m. Friday in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born Oct. 11, 1915, in Arctander Township, Kandiyohi County, to Selmer and Emma (Anderson) Steberg. He attended country school. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941-46. He was seriously wounded and received the Purple Heart.
On Sept. 9, 1950, he married Valberg Hafstad in Kerkhoven. They lived in Willmar where he operated a saw-sharpening service from his home.
He was affiliated with Green Lake Free Lutheran Church and a member of DAV and American Legion Post 167 in Willmar.
He is survived by his wife; sons James Steberg of Olympia, Wash., Steven (and Bev) Steberg of Blaine; three grandchildren; sister Gladys Hafstad of Willmar and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Helen C. Nygaard
April 2, 1904 - Jan. 21, 2001
MONTEVIDEO -- Helen Christina Nygaard, 96, of Montevideo died Sunday at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Saron Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo with the Rev. Steve Rheingans officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Montevideo and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born April 2, 1904, in Delhi to Ludwig and Helena (Reed) Schurg. Her parents died when she was young. She lived with an aunt and uncle in the Renville area and then with her grandmother in Montevideo. She was a graduate of Montevideo High School and Normal Training. She taught country school for three years.
On June 17, 1925, she married Oscar Nygaard. They lived in Wegdahl, moving to the Nygaard homestead farm in 1947. Oscar died Aug. 4, 1985. She suffered a stroke in 1988 and lived at Clara City Care Center for nine years, moving to Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo in August 1997.
She was a member of Homemakers Club, Saron Church and its ladies aid, and VFW Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter LaVonne (and Wally) Sletten of Montevideo; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters.
Palma B. Agre

BOYD -- Palma Bertina Agre, 89, of Boyd died Monday at Madison Lutheran Home.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd with the Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church. Arrangements are with Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield.
She was born Dec. 16, 1911, in Camp Release Township, Lac qui Parle County, to Jens and Annette (Kaupang) Fremo. She attended District 16 and Montevideo schools. She was employed by Swifts of Montevideo.
On Oct. 31, 1937, she married Clifford Helgeson, and they lived in Montevideo. She moved to Boyd where she was employed by City Café and Eckhardt's Store.
In September 1956, she married Jennings Agre in Montevideo. They farmed west of Clarkfield for seven years, and then at her home place near Boyd. They retired in 1975. She moved to Madison Lutheran Home in July 1993.
She was active at church in ladies aid and Bible study. She was a member of Boyd Senior Citizens and Sons of Norway.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law Carleen Helgeson; one grandson and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jennings in 2000, sons John Lee and David Allen, four brothers and one sister.
Virchella M. Heller
March 30, 1935 - Jan. 23, 2001
OLIVIA -- Virchella M. Heller, 65, of Olivia died Tuesday at her home.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Olivia with the Rev. Joel T. Luetke officiating. Burial will be in Olivia Cemetery. Memorials to Jesus Cares program at Zion Lutheran Church in Olivia are preferred.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born March 30, 1935, in Milbank, S.D., to Glenn and Vlasta (Smith) Thorkelson. She was a graduate of Milbank High School and attended McPhail College of Music in Minneapolis.
On July 25, 1954, she married Roger Heller. They lived in Olivia where she was a homemaker. She was a licensed pilot.
She was a soloist and directed the choir at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Danube and Zion Lutheran Church. She was a member of her church's afternoon circle, Jesus Cares program volunteer at Zion Lutheran Church and pianist at Olivia Healthcare Center for their WELS services. She was past chairperson of the Olivia Red Cross Bloodmobile and member of Renville County Health Services Foundation board of directors.
She is survived by her husband; daughters Ruth Heller of London, England, Naomi (and Robert) Endter of Greenville, Wis.; mother of Tucson, Ariz.; sister Marlene Thorkelson of Watertown, S.D.; brothers Delano (and Barbara) Thorkelson of Tucson, Ariz., Jayloy (and Nola) Thorkelson of Phoenix, Ariz., and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father, son David Heller and two infant children.
William J. Wohnoutka

OLIVIA -- William J. "Bill" Wohnoutka, 93, of Olivia died Tuesday at Renville County Hospital in Olivia.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia with the Rev. Phil Schotzko officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a 7:15 p.m. rosary and 7:30 p.m. prayer service, and 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia.
He was born April 29, 1907, in Beaver Falls Township, rural Renville County, to Frank and Antonia (Sembauer) Wohnoutka. He attended District 7 school in Beaver Falls Township.
On July 10, 1934, he married Helena Frank in Bechyn. He farmed in rural Olivia, moving in 1952 into town where he was employed in road construction, as a bus driver and at Elk River Concrete Plant from 1962 until retiring in 1972.
He was a director on the Bird Island Mutual Insurance Board and a board member of District 137 School Board from 1944-52.
He is survived by his wife; children Robert (and Diane) Wohnoutka of Spicer, Margaret (and Richard) Bergo of Spicer, Therese (and Rob) Kragenbring of Atwater, Phyllis (and Chris) Berninger of Crawfordville, Fla., Betty (and Marvin) Dubert of Hosford, Fla., Jerry (and Sue) Wohnoutka of Richfield, Jim (and Kathy) Wohnoutka of Minneota, Dianne (and Al) Nichols of Nashua, N.H., Karen (and Dennis) Barta of Olivia, Greg (and Becky) Wohnoutka of Sparks, Nev., Deb (and Lionel) Kull of Rice; 38 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; brother Ed Wohnoutka of Redwood Falls; and sisters Lillian (and Joe) Fischer of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Cecelia Wlock of Placentia, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, one sister and one granddaughter.
Dorothy M. Dawson

SPICER -- Dorothy Margaret Dawson, 90, of Spicer died Monday at Infinia at Willmar Care Center.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer with the Rev. Terry Sletto and the Rev. Jack Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in New London.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in New London and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born Feb. 7, 1910, in New London Township to William and Elizabeth Wadsworth. She attended District 98 grade school.
She married Harold Dawson, and they lived in Arkansas where she was a homemaker. Harold died in 1980. She returned to Spicer in 1992.
She volunteered and taught Sunday School at her church for more than 17 years.
She is survived by her sister Mercedes Masters of Spicer; brother Jack (and Jean) Wadsworth of Spicer and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and one sister.
