STARBUCK -- Ivlin Gilman Sylte, 88, of Starbuck, formerly of Benson, died Thursday at Minnewaska District Hospital in Starbuck.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson with the Rev. Keith Born officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born May 7, 1912, in West Bank Township, Swift County, to Iver P. and Gurianna (Rodal) Sylte. He attended Swenoda Township District 34 school. He farmed in Tara Township, later buying his parent's farm. He moved to Benson in 1976 where he was employed by Northway Grocery. He served on the township board, church board and was a Sunday School teacher.
He is survived by his brothers Floyd (and Vera) Sylte of Benson and Rev. Leonard (and Agnes) Sylte of Nashville, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Alfred E. Nordaune

GLENWOOD -- Alfred E. Nordaune, 84, of Glenwood, died Thursday at Glacial Ridge Hospital.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Church of the Sacred Heart in Glenwood with the Rev. Thomas Becker officiating. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Sedan.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., with 7 p.m. prayer service and 4 p.m. Rosary by St. Florence Mission Group and The Our Lady Mission Group, Sunday, at Hoplin Funeral Home in Glenwood, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born April 10, 1916, in Benedict, N.D., to John and Petra (Moseng) Nordaune. His family moved to the Starbuck area in 1919 where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Army. On Aug. 30, 1949, he married Mary Ann Terhaar. They lived in Morris, Clarkfield, moved to San Diego, Calif., in 1955, retired to Sedan in 1973, and moved to Glenwood. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and American Legion.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Marie of Brooklyn Park, Kathleen of Hopkins, Josephine (and Rick) Davidson of Glenwood, Theresa (and Dan) Moody of Brooklyn Park, Bernadine (and Paul) Gerde of Glenwood, Rosemary of Chaska; eight grandchildren; brother Elvin of Benson; and sisters Juline Hagestuen of Starbuck, Bernice Klevann of Starbuck and Rosella Sharpe of Blaine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and four sisters, one in infancy.
Irene C. Weigelt

LITCHFIELD -- Irene Caroline Weigelt, 79, of Litchfield, died Thursday at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Litchfield.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Emmaus Place Chapel in Litchfield with the Rev. Paul Holle officiating. Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.
Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. today at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield, and one hour prior to services at the chapel.
She was born Sept. 23, 1921, in Wells County, N.D., to Sam and Martha (Fisketjon) Wigan. She attended school through the eighth grade in Wells County. On June 28, 1945, she married Gustav F. Weigelt in Fessenden, N.D. They lived in Wadena, Renville, Clarkfield, Grove City and Litchfield.
She is survived by her daughters Grace (and Ken) Duclos of Rosemount, Darlene (and Gale) Smith of Litchfield, Marilyn (and Jeff) Spooner of McAllen, Texas, Brenda (and Jeff) Turk of Anoka; sons Clifford (and Lynn) Weigelt of Blaine, Rev. Darrell (and Nancy) Weigelt of Roanoke, Ind., Byron (and Margaret) Weigelt of Atwater; 16 grandchildren; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband on April 8, 1997, an infant daughter, one grandson, one great-granddaughter, three brothers, four sisters and one son-in-law.

LOGAN, Utah -- Irene Smith-Kent, 41, of Logan, Utah, formerly of Willmar, died Wednesday at her home.
Her funeral will be at noon Monday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Logan. Memorials to a nursing scholarship in her name are preferred and may be sent to Logan Regional Hospital Healthcare Foundation, 1400 N. 500 E., Logan, Utah 84341. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., with 8 p.m. vigil service, Sunday, at Allen Hall Mortuary.
She was born May 10, 1959, in Minot, N.D., to Douglas and Estelle (Tool) Smith. She was raised in Willmar. She was a 1977 graduate of Willmar High School, a graduate of University of Minnesota with a bachelors degree in nursing and a graduate of University of Utah with a masters degree in nursing. She was a faculty member at Weber State University in the nursing program based at Utah State University.
She is survived by her daughter Stephanie; son Matthew; and brothers Douglas Smith and Kent Smith.
Clayton Nelson

VILLARD -- Clayton Nelson, 78, of Villard, died Sunday at the Lakeview Good Samaritan Center in Glenwood.
His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hoplin Funeral Home in Glenwood with the Rev. Lawrence Cain officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Amelia Cemetery in Villard.
Visitation will be Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
He was born Sept. 22, 1922 to Clarence and Ella (Hanson) Nelson on the family farm near Villard. He graduated from Villard High School and joined the U.S. Army. Following an honorable discharge on Aug. 16, 1946, he married Bernice Kirckoff. They lived in Minneapolis for more than 30 years, where he was employed as a railroad steam fitter.
He's survived by his sons, Larry of Champlain and Ronnie of Mounds View; daughter Mona (and Gary) Thalhuber of White Bear Lake; five grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine Roush of Villard; one sister-in-law, Alice Nelson of Villard and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and one brother.
Helen M. Van Dorsten
July 17, 1941 - Feb. 2, 2001
HAWICK -- Helen M. Van Dorsten, 59, of Hawick, died Friday at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar after a 12-year struggle with cancer.
Her memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Nordland Lutheran Church in rural Paynesville with the Rev. Keith Ainsley officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville. A prayer service will be conducted at 7 p.m. by the Paynesville American Legion Post No. 271. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was born July 17, 1941 in New London to Peder and Helga (Hanson) Olson. She grew up on the family farm near Hawick and graduated from New London-Spicer High School in 1959. During the Vietnam War, she served in the medical field of the U.S. Air Force from 1959-1963. She also attended Peace Corps Training in North Carolina. On Dec. 2, 1967 she married Gerald Van Dorsten. They owned and operated the Eveready Oil Company in Paynesville for several years. In 1983 she received her LPN degree from the Willmar Vocational Technical College. From 1985 to 1998 she worked at the Veterans Hospital in St. Cloud. She was the first woman to become a member of the Paynesville American Legion Post No. 271.
She is survived by her husband; sons Marten (and Bernice) of Hawick, Karl (and Leesa) of Madison; daughters Dina of Hawick and Judy (and Jim) Kulset of New London; four grandchildren; two brothers, Peter (and Mary) Olson of Murdock and Harlan (and Judy) Olson of Hawick; and one sister, Lucille Houtkooper of Phoenix, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
Mildred R. Christopherson

REDWOOD FALLS -- Mildred Rebecca Christopherson, 84, of Redwood Falls, died Saturday at the Sunwood Good Samaritan Center in Redwood Falls.
Her funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls.
Visitation will be from noon until the time of service Wednesday. Burial will be in the Echo Cemetery. The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born July 26, 1916 in Sioux Agency Township in Yellow Medicine County to Hans and Martha (Arnestad) Christopherson. She attended Sunny Side Country School through seventh grade and graduated from Granite Falls High School. She graduated from the Vocational School of Practical Nursing in Minneapolis. She also took advanced nursing care classes. She provided home nursing care for disabled persons, worked at Fairview Hospital and was charge nurse at several nursing homes in the Minneapolis area. Since retirement, she resided in Belview and most recently in Redwood Falls. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
She is survived by one sister Josie Hemmingson of Granite Falls; one brother Joseph (and Alice) Christopherson of Sisseton, S.D. and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Clara Hemmingson Bezenek, Emma Elstad, Minnie Lavin and Alma Haen; two brothers Helmer and Harold Christopherson.
Helen C. Hansel

GLENCOE -- Helen Catherine Hansel, 84, of Glencoe, formerly of Willmar, died Wednesday.
Her funeral was Saturday at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe with the Rev. Eugene Lozinski officiating. Burial was in Glencoe Catholic Cemetery.
Arrangements were with Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
She was born Feb. 23, 1916, in rural Cologne to Martin and Eleanor (Wickenhauser) Schmitz. She attended St. Bernard's Catholic School.
On July 12, 1938, she married Louis Hansel in Cologne. They lived in Willmar from 1941 to 1993 when they moved to Glencoe.
She was a member of St. Francis Mission Circle and Catholic Aid Society.
She is survived by her husband; sons Alan (and Joyce) Hansel of Claremont, Tom (and Sandy) Hansel of Moraga, Calif., Duane (and Karla) Hansel of New Ulm; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; former daughter-in-law Shirley Hansel of Waseca; brother Roger (and Joanne) Schmitz of Waconia; sisters Lorraine Kelzer of Waconia, Sally Mieseler of Carver, Ruth (and Jack) Louis of Waconia, Marilyn (and Richie) Borka of Waconia, Jeanette (and Terry) Patrick of Waconia and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant granddaughter, two brothers and two sisters.
Kraig L. Nelson

FOREST CITY TOWNSHIP -- Kraig Louis Nelson, 46, of Forest City Township, Meeker County, died Saturday at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
His memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield. Private family burial will be in the spring.
Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was born Aug. 30, 1954, in Litchfield to Everett and Signe (Ruotsinja) Nelson. He was a 1972 graduate of Litchfield Senior High School and a 1975 graduate of Pipestone Vocation School where he took classes in meat cutting and processing. He was employed as a meat cutter by different grocery stores, returning to Litchfield where he was employed in the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning industry for 15 years.
He is survived by his significant other Anne Teicher of Litchfield; brother Steven (and Kim) Nelson of Sioux Falls, S.D., and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Paul R. Farnsworth
March 5, 1923 - Feb. 4, 2001
GROVE CITY -- Paul Richard Farnsworth, 77, of Grove City died Sunday at his home in Grove City following an extended battle with lung cancer.
His memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater with the Rev. Grant Fisher officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Atwater Funeral Home.
He was born March 5, 1923, in Hackensack to Charles and Gladys (Tolan) Farnsworth. He received his education in Missouri and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On June 9, 1947, he married Ardith Spainhower. They lived in Minnetonka where he was employed by the Village of Minnetonka. They moved to Clarksdale, Mo., where he was employed by Stewartsville Public Schools. They moved to Grove City Dec. 11, 1995.
He is survived by his wife; children Judy (and Vernon) Nelson of Atwater, Fred Farnsworth of Minneapolis, Connie (and Gary) Long of Bloomington, Douglas (and Pat) Farnsworth of Mayer; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother Edwin Farnsworth of Grant City, Mo.; sister Dora Mae Fattig of Stanberry, Mo., and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Richard Allen Farnsworth, one great-granddaughter and one brother.
Jerry P. Krueger

WILLMAR -- Jerry Paul Krueger, 48, of Willmar died unexpectedly Monday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Assembly of God with the Rev. H. Paul McCullough officiating. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born April 4, 1952, in Minnesota to Russell and Rose (Ackerman) Krueger. He attended Atwater High School.
On May 28, 1971, he married Sheryl Dubrosky in Watertown, S.D. They lived near Litchfield and Atwater.
On May 31, 1994, he married Kathleen Stien in Milbank, S.D. They lived in Willmar. He was self-employed.
He was involved in stock car racing at Kandi Race Way and Grove Creek Speedway and was a flagman at Redwood Speedway.
He is survived by his wife; children Christopher (and Erica) Krueger of Atwater, Jerry Paul Jr. (and Stacy) Krueger of Clara City, Amy (and Rodney) Zeihl of Kandiyohi, Korey (and Christy) Krueger of Atwater; parents of Atwater; stepchildren Kelley (and Maia) Rue of Avon, Kenny Rue of Grove City, Nathan Rue of New London, Christina Rue of Atwater, Dana Rue of St. Cloud, Jered Rue of Kerkhoven; seven grandchildren; brother David Krueger of Atwater and other relatives.
Orville G. Lhotka

LITCHFIELD -- Orville Garfield Lhotka, 85, of Litchfield died Sunday at Meeker County Memorial Hospital in Litchfield.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Litchfield with the Rev. Robert Hunter and the Rev. Lyndon Korhonen officiating. Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.
Visitation will be 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born Aug. 9, 1915, near Silver Lake to Victor and Josephine (Korista) Lhotka. He graduated from Bagley High School in 1933. He farmed with his family, worked at a bakery, was a substitute bus driver and was a rural mail carrier.
On Oct. 20, 1938, he married Evelyn Marshall in Bagley. He worked on the telephone line on the Alcan highway for six months. They bought a farm near Bagley, later moving into town where he drove truck for the co-op oil company. In 1950, they moved to New Germany where they owned a hardware store. They moved in 1954 to Litchfield where he worked as an inspector for the Minnesota Department of Weights and Measures. He retired in 1977, and they moved back to Litchfield in 1998.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Donna (and Loren) Anderson of Hutchinson, Deborah (and Dallas) Murphy of Plymouth; son Duane (and Louise) Lhotka of Aitkin; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers Clarence (and Margie) Lhotka of Bakersfield, Calif., Earl Lhotka of St. Paul, Howard Lhotka of Bagley and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson and one sister.
Helen S. Hatlelid

NEW LONDON -- Helen Sophia Hatlelid, 91, of New London, formerly of Benson, died Saturday at Glen Oaks Care Center in New London.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church Chapel in Benson with the Rev. Keith Born officiating. Burial will be in Swenoda Lutheran Cemetery in rural Benson. In lieu of acknowledgements donations will be made to the Leaf Scholarship Fund at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church and the Helen Hatlelid Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund c/o Glen Oaks Care Center in New London.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.
She was born Dec. 9, 1909, in Grafton, N.D., to Ole and Lettie (Blow) Strand. She grew up in Benson. She was a 1928 graduate of Benson High School and a 1948 graduate of University of Minnesota with a public health nursing degree.
On June 20, 1939, she married Rolf Hatlelid in Benson. Rolf died in June 1941. She lived in the Benson area where she taught in rural schools in Swenoda and Fairfield townships, Swift County, for nine years. She moved to Worthington where she served as a public health nurse in Nobels and Rock counties for 26 years.
She was a member of American Nurses Association for 30 years, serving on district, state and national committees, a member of the State Birding Organization and Sibley State Park Improvement Organization.
She is survived by sisters-in-law Winni Strand-Anfinson of Alexandria, Mae Strand-Hegaard of Grand Rapids, Mich., Elna Strand-Jensen of Santa Fe, N.M., and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers and one sister.
Charles L. Best Sr.

HECTOR -- Charles Lewis Best Sr., 87, of Hector died Sunday at Cosmos Healthcare Center.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Evangelical Free Church in Hector. Burial will be in Hector City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born Dec. 20, 1913, in North Dakota to F.W. and Kathleen (Ashford) Best. He grew up in Mayer. He was a graduate of Young America High School and attended night classes at University of Minnesota.
On Nov. 12, 1935, he married LuVern Dummer in Mayer, where they lived. In 1941, they moved to Watertown, and in 1972 to Hector where he farmed. LuVern died Nov. 11, 1992.
On Dec. 18, 1993, he married Deanna Netjes in Hector. They lived in Melville Township.
He was active in his church.
He is survived by his wife; children Betty Knochenmus of Kiawah Island, S.C., Charles W. (and Laurie) Best of Rock Hill, S.C., Joel Best (and fiancée Theresa Paquin) of Hector; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; foster siblings Deborah Quinn and Stanley Wabbe, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, son-in-law B. Gale Knochenmus, daughter-in-law Muriel Best, two brothers and two foster siblings.
