Russell T. Malone
Somersworth, NH - Russell Thomas Malone, 65 of 127 Indigo Hill Road, died Thursday January 29, 2004 at his residence after a period of declining health.
Russell was born in New Haven CT. on December 29, 1938 and was the son of Walter and Estelle (Walczak) Malone. He was raised in New Haven attending schools in that community. Russell had been a resident of Somersworth for the past 3 years.
Mr. Malone served with the United States Air Force during peacetime from 1956 to 1960. Prior to his retirement, Russell had been employed with Marlin Firearms of N. Haven CT. as an Industrial Engineer.
Russell thoroughly enjoyed fishing, and loved the opportunity to cook.
Family members include his wife of 42 years, Jill (Turcotte) Malone of Somersworth, three sons, Gary Malone and his wife Ivory of Somersworth, Edmund Malone and his wife Elaine of Phoenix, AZ. and Matthew Malone of Rochester. He leaves two daughters, Jennifer Malone of Branford, CT and Marianne Lewis and her husband Robert of Somersworth. A brother, Walter
Malone Jr. of N. Branford, CT and a sister, Mariane McFarland of Northford, CT. six grandchildren.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth.
Annette R. Chabot
Somersworth - Annette R. Chabot, 94, of 22 Pinecrest Drive, died Monday January 5, 2003 at Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center after a period of declining health. Annette was born in Somersworth on April 29, 1909 and was the daughter of Theophile and Amerilda (Belanger) Soucy. She was raised in Somersworth and was a life long resident of this community.
Prior to her retirement she had worked at Miller Shoe Company as a shoe sprayer. Mrs. Chabot was a communicant of St. Martin Catholic Church and held membership in the Sacred Heart Society.
Family members include her daughters, Mrs. Rita J. DeMott of Somersworth and Mrs. Irene Burks and her husband Jamie of Sparta, Missouri. A son, Leo Paul Chabot and his wife Beverly of Somersworth. 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, several nephews and nieces. Mrs. Chabot was the last of 10 brothers and sisters. She was predeceased by a grandson James Burks, who died in 1968. Her husband Philias J. Chabot who died in 1980 predeceased her.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth. The family request family flowers only.
Willis Freeman, Jr.
World War II Veteran
Somersworth, NH - Willis Freeman, Jr.79 of 73 C Washington St. passed away peacefully on January 3rd at the Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation for Rochester, where he had only been a resident for two days.
He was born on May 25, 1924 in Portsmouth, NH. He was the son of Willis and Beatrice (Rogers-Pomeleau) Freeman. He and his family moved to Dover when he was 4 years old. He attended Dover Schools.
In 1942 he joined the U.S. Army. He was in the 750th tank battalion. He was a machine gunner and drove heavy trucks. During his tour he saw front line duty in Africa, France, Italy, Germany and Belgium. He received many medals including Good Conduct, Eamet Campaign and 5 Bronze Stars.
He returned home to Dover to marry and raise a family. He worked various jobs including the Navy Yard, Simplex and had his own janitorial service, which he retired from in 1981.
His family was an important part of his life. He enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed going for rides to the mountains, watching sports events on the television, reading and being a veteran. He wore his World War II hat with dignity and shared his experiences with anyone that asked.
Family members include his devoted wife of 58 years, Pauline (Pinkham) Freeman, three daughters; Debra Bickford and Richard Day of Dover, Vicki Bonneau of Rochester and Heidi Robinson and her husband Allen of Dover, three sisters; Pearl Peters of Lee, Shirley Goss of Rochester and Doris Roy of Farmington, two brothers; Richard Freeman of Rochester and John Davis of Madbury, four granddaughters; Jessica and Krista Bonneau of Rochester and Brittany and Rebecca Robinson of Dover, one great-granddaughter, Taylor Marie Brown and one great-grandson, Coydan Alexander Brown both of Rochester and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Roland Freeman and Robert Freeman and by one sister, Dorothy Plaisted.
There will be no calling hours. Burial after cremation will be left to the discretion of his family. Denise M. Girard Gearwar
SOMERSWORTH- Denise M. Girard Gearwar, 42 of 8 Pinewood Drive, died Thursday, January 8, 2004 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital following a four year courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Dover May 1, 1961, she was the daughter of Roland J. and Angie (Lewis) Girard.
Denise attended Dover High School and was a preschool teacher at Crossroads Kindergarten for five years. Although a quiet person, she was deeply loved by the children at the school. Her loving spirit touched many lives prior to and during her long illness.
Her family in addition to her parents of Dover include two daughters, Wendy M. Fife of Somersworth and Crystal L. Gearwar of Somersworth; her maternal grandparents, Leon and Bessie Lewis of Dover, one brother, R. Joseph Girard, Jr. of Somersworth; her grandson, Bradley J. McCurdy of Somersworth; aunts, uncles and cousins.
There will be no calling hours.

Kathleen Lessard
BERWICK, Maine - Kathleen A. Lessard, 56, a resident of Sullivan Street, Berwick, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at her home with loving family at her side.
She was born in Rochester, N.H., on Jan. 13, 1947, the daughter of Lawrence A. and Arlene M. (Greiner) Verville.
She was educated at Holy Trinity School, Somersworth, N.H., and graduated from Somersworth High School in 1965. She held an LPN degree from Exeter School of Nursing, and she graduated from Duke University Medical Center as a medical and surgical nurse in 1968. She received a bachelor of science from Franklin Pierce College in 1994 and a master of science from New Hampshire College in 1996.
On May 10, 1969, she married Gerald L. (Jerry) Lessard of Somersworth, and they had two sons.
As a nurse, she worked at the Langdon Home, Frisbie Memorial Hospital and Riverside Rest Home of Rochester. She was an educator at the Noble Adult and Community Education Center, and was a substitute teacher at Spaulding High School in Rochester and Sanford High School in Sanford. From 1996 until her retirement, she taught at the Somersworth Middle School.
She had a tremendous sense of fun that she shared with family and close friends. Her tea parties for the grandchildren were legendary.
She is survived by her parents of Berwick; her husband of 34 years, Gerald L. (Jerry) of Berwick; two sons, Parrish and his wife, Debra K. (Fuller) Lessard, and Jayson and Angeline Marie (Goodrich) Lessard, both of Berwick; a brother, Wilfred and his wife, Janet Verville, of Kittery; and a sister, Carol Verville of Naples, Fla.; and seven grandchildren, Tyle, Wyley, Bryson, Kayla, Kadin, Kassidy and Kelsey Lessard, all of Berwick.

Ralph Maloomian
ROLLINSFORD - Ralph Sarkis Maloomian, 61, of Clement Road, died on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.
Born Oct. 31, 1942, in Rochester, he was the son of Jack and Helen (Kachanian) Maloomian.
He graduated from Somersworth High School, Class of 1960. He was employed by General Electric of Somersworth, retiring in 1998 after 37 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Cinthia E. (Beaudoin) Maloomian of Rollinsford; two sons, Derek Maloomian of Rollinsford and Kevin Maloomian of Somersworth; two daughters, Cara Maloomian of Rollinsford and Suanne (Maloomian) Allen and her husband, Mark, of Somersworth; and one sister, Diane Maloomian of Gloucester, Mass.
He was predeceased by a son, Robert Maloomian in 2002.

Noella Florence Roy
Somersworth - Noella Florence Roy, 68 of 57 Kelwyn Drive died Monday January 5, 2004 after a long illness at the home of her daughter surrounded by her family.
Noella was born on December 24, 1935 in S. Berwick, Maine and was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Normand) Landry. Noella was raised in Somersworth attending St. Martin Academy. She was a graduate of Somersworth High School Class of 1954. Mrs. Roy was a life long resident of this community.
Prior to retirement, she had been employed with General Electric in Somersworth with 20 years of service and had worked in the meter department. Noella had also been employed for a time with the Somersworth Middle School Library, Clarostat and for a short time with Wentworth-Douglas Hospital in Dover.
Noella was a loving, caring and generous person, a women who always wanted to do things for others. She was a lady who liked to travel, had a fondness toward cooking or to go out to a good restaurant. While at GE she was a member of the Bowling team, a sport she loved to play even after retirement. Mrs. Roy loved to spend time in the garden but most of all she loved her dogs.
Family members include her daughter Diane and her husband Barry Riordan of Somersworth. A brother Gerard and his wife Kathy of Somersworth. Two grandchildren, Lindsay Riordan of Grafton, MA and Matthew Riordan of San Antonio, TX. She also leaves her dear friends, Monica Dumais, Doris Boutin-Cyr and Marcia Leclerc. And Rick and Chris O'Connor for there tireless efforts in helping with Noella and the family during this period.

Muriel M. Dumais
Coventry, RI - Muriel M. Dumais, 92 of 88 Harwood Rd. died Sunday January 18, 2004 at the Alpine Nursing Home, Coventry, RI after a period of failing health.
Muriel was born in Rochester, NH on May 13, 1911 and was the daughter of Wilfred and Leda (Gilbert) Vincent. She was raised in Rochester, NH attending public schools and graduated from Rochester High School. She lived in Rochester for 21 years before moving to Somersworth, NH, Nashua, NH and N. Kingston, RI where she had lived for the past 17 years. While
living in Somersworth, NH, Muriel was a communicant of St. Martin Catholic Church.
Mrs. Dumais was a homemaker, she loved her family and her activities centered on her children and grandchildren.
Family members include two sons, Lee Dumais of Bowie, Maryland and Robert Dumais of E. Greenwich, RI. 8 grandchildren and 7 great grand children. She was predeceased by a brother Wilmont Vincent and by her husband Albert Dumais who died in 1988.

Earl Palioca
Somersworth - Earle H. Palioca, 90, of 11 Laurier St. and formerly of Kelwyn Drive died Friday January 16, 2004 at the Riverside Rest Home in Dover.
Born in Plymouth, MA on April 17, 1913 the son of Charles and Effie (Black) Palioca and was a former resident of Amsterdam, New York prior to moving here in 1935.
He was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II and was a member of the D.A.V. and the Elks.
Earle was a chemist having worked for the former Cochecho Bottling Co. for 37 years and after his retirement he worked in the Dover High School Cafeteria.
Mr. Palioca was a member of the Holy Trinity Church in Somersworth.
He is survived a daughter Evelyn Charbonneau and her husband Raymond of Somersworth, six grandchildren Deborah Wood, Dale Charbonneau, Lynn Peters, Gary McNally, Steve McNally, Kevin McNally, seven great-grandchildren Adam Holmes, Brock Holmes, Lindsey Wood, Cameron McNally, John McNally, Amanda McNally and Michael Peters.
His wife Isabelle (LeBlanc), a daughter Leona McNally, a sister Evelyn Susbrick and a brother Lewis Palioca predeceased him.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday morning from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover. Wayne Keith Richard
SOMERSWORTH - Wayne Keith Richard, 53, formerly of 41 Union St., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, in Rochester, after a period of failing health.
He was born on May 6, 1950, in Stoneham, Mass., the son of Joseph P. and Evelyn M. (Jackson) Richard. He moved to New Hampshire in 1981, where he resided for the past 23 years. He was a veteran in the U.S. Air Force Reserve in the late 1960s and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 1887 of Somersworth.
He worked for Auto Sound of Stoneham, Mass., for many years, and he then opened his own dealership, Dealer Sound, and became very successful. He later moved to New Hampshire, where he opened his own window treatment business in Barrington. There was very little he couldn't do with his hands, but his real home was the outdoors. He loved to fish, hike, hunt, ski and snow shoe; when he was in the woods, he was at home. He will be sadly missed by his friends and loving family.
He is survived by three sisters, Vivian M. Leavitt, Dale V. Mundo and Lynne E. Hovey; one brother, Philip R. Richard; and several nieces and nephews.
Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Rose A. Shaltrey
Somersworth - Rose A. Shaltrey 94, formerly of 204 Sherwood Glen died Wednesday January 21, 2004 at Riverside Rest Home after a period of failing health.
Rose was born on January 22, 1909 in Somersworth and was the daughter of Leonidas and Lucia (Paquette) Turcotte. She was raised in Somersworth and was educated in the local school system. She was a life long resident of this community.
Mrs. Shaltrey was a homemaker and was a communicant of St. Martin Catholic Church. In her earlier years Rose had worked for a time in the gift shop of Garrison Hill Florists and served in the Women's Auxiliary at Wentworth-Douglas Hospital.
Mrs. Shaltrey was devoted to her family, her activities centered on her daughter and grandchildren.
Family members include her daughter, Mrs. Robert (Jacqueline) Ham of Dover, two brothers, Leo Turcotte of New Port Richey, Fla. and Raymond Turcotte of Tampa, Fla; a sister, Mrs. Lorraine Crouch of Berwick, Maine, 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Rose was predeceased by her brothers, Albert, Arthur, William and Romeo and her sisters, Valeda DesMarais and Grace Healey. Her husband Dewey L. Shaltrey who died in 1959 predeceased her.

Clarence L. Smith
SOMERSWORTH - Clarence L. Smith, 83, of 12 Blackwater Road, formerly of Farmington, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Riverside Rest Home in Dover, surrounded by his family following a period of declining health.
He was born in Farmington on May 13, 1920, the son of Leland and Maude (Jones) Smith. He was educated in Farmington, graduating from Farmington High School, Class of 1938.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe.
He had been employed as a welder at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for many years, retiring in 1972.
He was a life member of the American Legion Post 60 of Farmington, and the VFW Post 6806, also of Farmington.
He was an avid gardener and took great pride in his garden.
He was the widow of Margaret Smith, who died in 1969. He was also predeceased by a sister, Gertrude Rush, who died in 2000.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Loretta (Berube) Smith of Somersworth; his children, Shirley Anderson of Gonic, Brenda Kuder and her husband, Greg, of Farmington, Arthur Caouette and his wife, Madeleine, of Somersworth, and Lucille Sukduang of Somersworth; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Bartlett of Concord; one cousin, Delma Smith of Rochester; and nieces and nephews.

Harley James Smith
Somersworth: Harley James Smith, 74, of 61 Kelwyn Drive, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2004, at the Merrimac Valley Hospital in Haverhill, Mass.
Born May 16, 1929, in Newport, VT, he was the son of the late Harry and Irene May (Dilley) Smith.
He was a longtime resident of Somersworth, since 1958. He was employed by the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and worked for the government for over 31 years.
Survivors include one son, Michael Smith of Somersworth; one sister, Rose-Marie (Smith) Parrish of Fla.; three grandchildren, Corporal Benjamin Smith, Meaghan Smith and Jacob Smith; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Rita (McDonald) Smith; two sisters, Buelah (Smith) Larvey and Patricia Jean (Smith) McBride.
Burial will take place in the St. Mary Cemetery, later in the Spring.

Irene M. Gillis
SOMERSWORTH — Irene M. Gillis, 74, of 620 Tri City Road, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital.
Born June 12, 1930, in South Berwick, Maine, she was the daughter of Raoul and Alma (Dube) Roberge.
She had spent the last five months in Somersworth after living in Rochester for the past 20 years. She was employed at many different local shoe shops in the area. She had been a member of the Moose Club for the last 10 years and enjoyed playing bingo.
She is survived by her husband, George Gillis of Somersworth; two sons, Michael Gillis and his wife, Rena, of Rochester, and Geoffrey Gillis and his wife, Susan, of Lebanon, Maine; daughter, Sharon Purvis and her husband, Douglass, of Acton, Maine, mother, Alma Roberge of Dover; two sisters, Ora Houde and her husband, Roland, of Eliot, Maine and Louise Campagna and her husband, Frank, of Florida; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is predeceased by her father, Raoul Roberge.

Alice Louise Landry
SOMERSWORTH — Alice Louise Landry, 91, formally of Indigo Hill Road, died Sunday, September 19, 2004 at Riverside Rest Home in Dover, NH.
She was born on August 29, 1913, the daughter of Fredrick and Alice (Lufkin) Stone in Peabody, MA.
She was an Office Manager for Goodspeed Insurance Agency in Cape Osterville, MA for 25 years, retiring at age 79. She was a member of the Beach Plum Quilters of Harwich, MA, making several quilts; a member of the Insurance Women’s Association; and a member of the Harwich Congregational Church. She was known for her delicate embroideries, making dated plaques for all of her grandchildren. She loved to paint pictures, which are displayed in the family’s homes and she loved to knit.
She is survived by her son, Richard Landry of Biddeford, ME; her daughters, Karen Landry of Haverhill, MA and Carolyn Billas of Rochester, NH; her twelve grandchildren; Twenty-four great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two nieces and one nephew.
She was predeceased by her husband, Albert E. Landry in 1982.

Lawrence G. Leaver
DOVER — Lawrence G. Leaver, 86, of 331 Washington Street and formerly of 347 Main Street Somersworth, died Sunday September 26, 2004 at Riverside Rest Home, Dover.
Lawrence was born in Boston, MA on March 13, 1918 and was the son of George and Bertha (Swensen) Leaver. He was raised in MA, graduating from Arlington High School. He went on to further his education at New Hampton Prep School.
A veteran of WW II, Lawrence served with the US Army Air Corps with the rank of Staff Sgt. and was stationed in Iceland.
Mr. Leaver along with his wife moved to Somersworth in 1944. He was employed as a setup man with General Electric with over 34 years of service. 15 years ago, he and his wife moved to Florida.
Lawrence was a member of the American Legion, Post 69 of Somersworth, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Florida. He was also a former member of the Dover Elks and the Knights of Columbus. He also served as President for 2 years with the General Electric Employees Association.
He was an avid golfer and a dedicated sports fan of all sports. He was also a bartender where he worked for the St. Jeans Hall. He also bartended for General Electric functions and at the American Legion.
Family members include his wife of 62 years, Marie (Legere) Leaver of Dover. Two sons Richard Leaver and his wife Maureen both of Somersworth and Robert Leaver of Pepperill, MA. Other family members include 3 grandchildren, James Leaver and his dearest friend Julie Conquest both of Portsmouth, Jason Leaver and his fiancée Lauren Mickee both of Portsmouth and Adam Leaver of Groton, MA. and several cousins.

James J. McCarthy
SOMERSWORTH — James J. McCarthy, 85, of 6 Joyce St., died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at his home after a brief illness.
He was born in Dover, N.H., Sept. 18, 1919, the son of Patrick and Annie (Greene) McCarthy. He was educated in Dover Schools and had resided in the Dover-Somersworth area most of his life.
He had served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Campaign during World War II at Bougainville and at Iwo Jima.
After his military service, he was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the Shipfitter Shop. He retired as a leadman in this trade after 28 years.
In his youth, he boxed under the name ‘the Belfast Spider’. He loved horses and owned several harness race horses. Trotting champions ‘Joe Grunts’ and ‘Just Junk’ raced to his delight at Scarborough Downs, Rockingham Park and at the Rochester Fair Grounds.
He had been very active at Holy Trinity Church serving on various committees throughout the years and most recently he served as an usher. He made himself available on short notice to drive Sr. Judith so as to assist her in ministry to the local communities.
He was predeceased by a son, Patrick and by a sister, Catherine McEneaney.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Antoinette (Demers) McCarthy of Somersworth; four sisters, Mary Williams, Margaret Sheehy, Ann Foss, all of Dover, and Barbara Lawrence of Springvale, Maine, and her husband, William Lawrence, along with many well loved nieces and nephews.

Brenda J. Micucci
SOMERSWORTH — Brenda J. Micucci, 58, of Brenda Ave., wife of Michael J. Micucci, died Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.
Born in Ayer, MA October 23, 1945, she was the daughter of Robert M. and Priscilla (Hughes) Duffy. Brenda was a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, class of 1964 and Sacred Heart School of Nursing, class of 1970. She was a registered nurse, most recently employed by Dover Pediatrics and previously as head nurse on Dunaway 1 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. She was a loving mother and enjoyed children greatly. Her experience in pediatric nursing was particularly rewarding to her. Brenda was a fan of James Dean, John Depp and John Travolta. She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church.

Duffy of Dover; one brother, Michael Duffy and his wife Cheryl of Windham, ME; one sister, Patricia Edwards and her husband Douglas of Hazen, ND; nieces and nephews, Dougie Edwards, Greg Edwards, Jeff Edwards, Elizabeth (Edwards) Nelson, Kristal Duffy, Matthew Duffy, Sean Carberry; a brother-in-law, Donald Micucci and a special child Casey.

John Morrissey
ROWLEY, Mass. — John Guy Morrissey, 80, of Plantation Drive, formerly of Somersworth, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at the West Roxbury V.A. Hospital after a period of failing health.
He was born in Somersworth, Aug. 25, 1924, the son of John and Mary (Guy) Morrissey. He was educated in Somersworth Schools graduating from Somersworth High School, Class of 1943.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving as a pharmacist mate in the South Pacific and later at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
He had lived in Rowley since 1986.
Two of his claims to fame was that he was invited to kiss the Pope’s ring during his visit to Boston in 1978, and that he participated in the raising of the American flag at Iwo Jima.
Survivors include two beloved sisters, Marilyn Fowler of South Berwick, Maine and Jeanne Herrick of Arlington, Va.
Robert Morrison
SOMERSWORTH — Robert Morrison, 36, Page St, died early Sunday, September 26, 2004, from a sudden illness at his residence.
He was born on November 25, 1967 in Rochester, NH; the son of Robert A. and Judith L. (Johnson) Morrison of Somersworth, NH.
He resided in Somersworth for the last five years. He was a US Navy Seabees. He was an avid salt water fisherman. He loved skiing and camping, he enjoyed the outdoors.
He is survived by his parents, Robert A. and Judith L. (Johnson) Morrison of Somersworth, NH; two sisters, Tammy L. Hernandez of Middleton, NH and Cynthia L. McKenzie of Somersworth, NH; three nieces, Felin, Haley and Sierra Hernandez and several Aunts and Uncles.
