Delores Aaenson Hanson - - 1931 - 2000
Delores Aaenson Hanson, 69, Minot, ND, died Wednesday, October 25, 2000, at her residence of natural causes after a long battle with cancer.
She was born September 19, 1931, at Granville, ND, the daughter of Elmer Aaenson and Selma Martenson. She grew up in Granville and attended Whiterock and Indiana Country Schools. Her parents Elmer and Selma moved the family to Minot in 1945. Her first city job was working at the Woolworths soda fountain.
On June 25, 1949, she married the love of her life, Clifford A. Hanson of Burlington, ND. Delores, being of pioneer spirit (as Uncle Ed described her) devoted herself to helping Cliff fulfill many dreams. She didn't have to pack up the covered wagon but during her 46 years of marriage the family relocated nine or more times tp numerous states. Even with three small children she worked as an ATP grocery checker in Seattle. In Bothell, WA she was a school bus driver for Northshore School district and had a perfect driving record.
In 1969, came the big move when she left her household belongings behind and traveled with her family up the Alaskan Highway in search of that Last Frontier. Delores loved Cliff, her family and the great outdoors. After twenty-five years living in Anchorage and Palmer, AK, Delores retired in 1982 from the Anchorage School District as a Teamster Bus Driver. She earned several outstanding driving awards and trophies throughout her career. The same year Cliff and Delores retired they moved to Twisp, WA, where they enjoyed the next 12 years. In 1994, North Dakota was calling them back home so they relocated to Berthold rejoining many relatives and friends who reside here. Clifford was laid to rest on October 3, 1995, and Delores filled her life by enjoying relatives and friends.
She continued on with her pioneer spirit, not letting Metastatic Breast Cancer keep her down. She even finally made it to the Price Is Right show with her grandson and daughter, and took in what she called a rock concert starring Cher with her daughter and granddaughter. Her past couple of years were highlighted with many more adventures from traveling to see her granddaughter play at her regional Soccer Tournament in California to attending a first granddaughters wedding and camping with son and her nephews family. She was excited to see her fourth grandchild head off to college and was able to spend time with her first great grandson.
Delores felt very blessed for all the joy she's experienced throughout her life, but knowing she was joining Cliff to be laid by his side at Rosehill gave her the greatest joy of all.
Her blessed journey has now begun.
