Theodore (Ted) A. Benson - - 1919 - 2001
Theodore (Ted) A. Benson, 82, 8601 219 Ave SW, Douglas, died Sunday, October 14, 2001 in a Minot Nursing Home.
Ted was born September 26, 1919, in Torning Township, Ward County, the son of Ed and Esther (Anderson) Benson. At the age of eight, his family moved to Hilton Township, Ward County. He attended country schools in Torning and Hilton Townships. On March 30, 1943, he married Gladys Johnson at the Zion Parsonage in Minot. They operated the family farm and raised their family southwest of Minot. Ted also worked at the Lutheran Nursing Home, now known as Trinity Homes, and at Trinity Hospital for 25 years as an orderly and later as a physical therapy assistant. He retired in 1984. His wife, Gladys, children, and grandchildren were the joy in his life. Ted enjoyed dancing, gardening, cooking, canning, and photographing sunrises and sunsets. He brought laughter to everyone - always having a joke to tell. Ted spoke Norwegian fluently, including prayers. His faith was displayed through his actions. He lived a life of serving others, whether he was working at his job, or volunteering at the Moose Lodge, or getting groceries or medicine for shut-ins. His wife, Gladys, died in November 1988. He entered Trinity Homes in June of 2000, and lived there until the time of his death.
Ted was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, and was a former member of Fron Lutheran Church, rural Minot. He was a member of the Minot Moose Lodge where he volunteered many hours. He served as governor for one term, was a member of the Moose Ritual Team and the Legion of the Moose. He was a board member of Hilton Township and Hilton School, a member of the Sons of Norway, the Fron Lutheran Cemetery Association, and the Northwest Polkateers, all of the Minot area.
Survivors: two sons, Elvin (Al) Benson and his fiancée Colette Sheehan, Minot, and Dennis Benson and his wife Elaine, Douglas; three grandchildren, Tim and Brian Benson and Crystal Sanborn; sisters, Belinda Anhorn, Minot, and Hilda Nielson and her husband Leroy, Minot. Numerous nieces ands nephews also survive. His wife, Gladys, his parents, and two sisters, Sylvia Whitfield and Eloise Silvernail, preceded him in death.

Alvin "Buster" Berry - - 1913 - 2001
Alvin Lyle "Buster" Berry, 78, Minot, died Thursday, October 25, 2001, at Trinity Homes, Minot.
Alvin was born December 7, 1922, in Des Lacs, ND, the son of Lyle and Helen (Spicker) Berry. He was raised in that area and graduated from Des Lacs High School. He entered the United States Naval Service on June 5, 1944. Upon his honorable discharge he was employed at the Boeing Company in Kent, Washington, for a time and later at North American Aviation, in Downey, California. He was once married to Dorothy Hennessy.
On July 5, 1958, he married DeLorse (Hanson) Nygard. The couple lived in Minot where he was employed at Sweetheart Bakery from 1957 until his retirement in 1984. While at Sweetheart Bakery he earned several safety driving awards. DeLorse died December 19, 1995. Alvin moved into Edgwood Vista, Minot. While there he had a very special friend, Gladys Brockway, who took good care of him.
Alvin's favorite hobbies were camping, fishing and laughing. He was a member of the North American Fishing Club, and of various other fishing and hunting clubs.

He was preceded in death by his wife, DeLorse Eleanor Berry; parents; and brother, Edward Berry.

August A. Boechler, 75, Velva, died Thursday, October 4, 2001, in his home.
August was born June 3, 1926, in Karlsruhe, ND, the son of Nickolaus and Johanna (Kiefer) Boechler. He was raised in Karlsruhe and graduated from Karlsruhe High School in 1944.
He entered the United States Army and was stationed in Austria, serving during World War II. Following his honorable discharge he returned to North Dakota. He married Beverly Stalwick on December 28, 1950 in Berthold, ND. The couple lived in Berthold until 1958 when they moved to Velva. August worked for Verendrye Electric for 38 years until his retirement.
August was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. The knowledge he had about hunting and fishing he passed on to his son and grandchildren. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, the American Legion, Joseph I. Weller Post #39, and the Senior Citizens, all Velva. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge, Minot.
Survivors: Wife, Beverly, Velva; son, Thomas (Jeanie) Boechler, Surrey; three grandchildren, Christopher, Derek and Cody Boechler; brothers, Phillip (Catherine) Boechler, East Lansing, MI, and Peter Boechler, St. Cloud, MN; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.

Peter Bosch - - 1923 - 2001
Peter Bosch, 78, 305 8th Ave. NE, Minot, died Saturday, September 15, 2001, in a Minot nursing home.
He was born January 13, 1923, in Pierce County the son of Simon J. and Hoffart "Frances" Bosch. He was reared and educated in Pierce and Benson County's.
He entered the United States Army on February 25, 1946 and was stationed in Japan as a motor pool sergeant. He was honorably discharged on August 15, 1947. After his discharge he returned to North Dakota and attended Wahpeton State School of Science and earned his diploma as an auto body mechanic.
Peter worked in Minot for a number of years and then moved to Seattle, WA. In 1969, he returned to Minot. He entered Trinity Homes in October of 2001, where he lived until his death. He was once married to Nellie Hoffman.

Janice "Coleen" Boschee, 65, 924 28th Ave. SW, Minot, died Tuesday in a Minot nursing home.
She was born May 10, 1936, in Berthold, ND, to John and Esther (Buen) Allshouse. She was reared and educated in Berthold and graduated from Berthold high school. Following graduation, she attended beauty school in Bismarck. She worked as a beautician out of her home at times. On December 17, 1955, she married Jake Boschee in Berthold. They lived in Berthold and moved around to several different areas throughout their marriage before moving back to Berthold. In the mid 1970's, she went to work at the Berthold High School, where she worked as a cook for many years. In 1989, they moved to Minot. Coleen and Jake were later divorced. She continued living in Minot until the time of her death.
She was a member of the Eagles Aerie, Minot and attended Zion Lutheran Church, Berthold.

Myrtle E. Bradley - - 1904 - 2001
Myrtle E. Bradley, 97, Mohall Good Samaritan Home, formerly of Lansford, died Tuesday in a Minot hospital.
She was born on January 31, 1904, in Mt. Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa the daughter of John F. and Sarah Ellen (Van Winkle) Abernathey. She lived with her Van Winkle grandparents after her mother and baby brother, Leland, deaths in 1906. She attended grade school in Mt. Ayr, Iowa and in Wimbledon, ND and two years of high school at Lansford, ND. In 1923, her brother, William Leonard Abernathey, married Ruth Helming and Myrtle went with them to Gooding, Idaho where she worked in at tailoring shop. In 1928, she went to Lansford to live with her dad, who had remarried and had five more children by that marriage. She worked at telephone offices in Lansford, Minot and Kenmare.
She met Claude C. Bradley on a blind date and they married August 26, 1931, in Bismarck, ND. They lived on his dad's farm in Van Buren Township, Renville County, ND. In November of 1939, their family home burned and in 1944, they moved into a newly built home on the farm. From 1949-1953, they lived in Minot, then back to the farm and in November of 1973, they moved into their new home built in Glenburn, retiring from farming. In 1977, Myrtle and Claude began spending the winter months in Mesa, AZ. In August of 1981, they celebrated their 50th Anniversary in Glenburn and in January of 1984, they moved to Rogers, Arkansas, near their daughter and son-in-law, Claudine and Bill Roush. Her main hobbies were reading and crocheting.
After Claude's death June 15, 1986, Myrtle lived alone and visited each of her children until 1989. She lived wither her daughter and son-in-law, Nina and Al Stach, in Washington for a year and then entered the Oak Ridge Lodge in Pea Ridge, Arkansas, living there for eight years. In 1998, she entered and lived two years in Edgewood Vista in Minot and in November of 1999, she moved into the Good Samaritan Home in Mohall, where she was living at the time of her death.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Glenburn, ND.
Survivors: sons, Garold Bradley and his wife, Gayle, Lansford, ND and Dennis Bradley and his wife, Nancy, Mesa, AZ; daughters, Claudine Roush and her husband, Billy, Billings, MT and Nina Stach and her husband, Al, Seattle, WA; twelve grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren; sister, Leta Tovey, Independence, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Bradley, brothers, Leonard, Charlie, Raymond, Johnny and Leslie Abernathy.

Herta Briedis - - 1908 - 2001
Herta Briedis, 93, 305 8th Ave. NE, Minot, died Saturday in a Minot nursing home.
Herta was born March 17, 1908 in Riga, Latvia, the daughter of Janis and Maria (Erdberg) Briedis. She was raised and educated in that area. At a young age, she fled with her parents from Latvia to West Germany. She attended pre-law education classes in Gemany for a time. In 1950, she moved from Memmingen, West Germany, to the United States with her mother and two brothers. She worked in Minot as a cook for 13 years at St. Joseph's Hospital. She retired in 1973. Herta never married and remained living in the same house that her family owned in Minot until recently moving to Trinity Homes.
Herta was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Senior Citizens, both Minot. She loved to crochet, knit and create handy work in her spare time. She also enjoyed growing flowers and her garden. She played the piano and was an excellent musician
Survivors: special friends, Rod and Joyce Shuman, Steve and Lisa Kukowski, Mary Juenger, and Jill Shuman-Jones. Her parents and six brothers preceded her in death.

Rose Brockel, 99, Glasgow, MT, died Monday, December 10, 2001, at a Glasgow nursing home.
Rose was born October 4, 1902, in Selby, SD, the daughter of Johann, Sr., and Friedericka (Roesler) Brockel. While growing up she cooked for a Norwegian couple and helped her parents on the farm and also helped them raise her twelve brothers and sisters.
On December 3, 1925, she married Lee Brockel in Mound City, SD. Lee worked for the Soo Line Railroad. The couple lived in Burlington for a time and later moved to Minot. Lee died on April 10, 1971. Rose continued to like in Minot and later moved to Garrison for a time. In the early 90's she moved to Glasgow, MT to be near her son, Gary.
Survivors: son, Gary Brockel and Brockel Ebony Fritz, her Schnauzer, both Glasgow, MT; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Leo and Elmer Brockel, both South Dakota; sisters, Ella Bossert and Alma Nusz, both California. Several nieces and nephews and cousins also survive. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Lee in 1971; sons, Warren Brockel in 1981, and baby boy Brockel at birth; parents, Johann and Friedericka; and eight brothers and sisters.

Jay Elvin Burchill - - 1918 - 2001
Jay Elvin Burchill, 83, 419-17th Ave. SW, Minot, ND, died Wednesday, October 31, 2001, in a Minot Medical Center.
Jay was born in Valley City, ND, on April 12, 1918, the son of George R. and Helga (Wold) Burchill. He graduated from Valley City High School and attended one year of College in Valley City. He then went to work for the Red Owl Store in Valley City and later he delivered for the Coca-Cola distributor in Jamestown for seven years.
He joined the North Dakota National Guard and was called into active duty with the US Army's 188th Field Artillery and was stationed in the European Theater for 18 months. While in the service he served as Chief of Communication. He supervised a communication section in the installation operation and minor maintenance of telephone and radio communication. He supervised adjustments and minor part replacement to switchboards, telephones, telegraph keys, etc. He received numerous medals. He served a total of five years with the National Guard and Army.
When he was discharged, he moved to Minot, where his parents had moved, and met Dorothy Oberg, who he married on July 1, 1949 in Minot. He went to work with Standard Oil Company as a gas truck driver for 28 years. He later went to work for the Minot Eagles Club for six years as a janitor of the club before being forced to retire because of a heart attack.
Jay was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and the Loyal Order of Moose all of Minot.
Jay enjoyed visiting with people, bowling, playing cards and traveling on vacation.
Survivors: wife, Dorothy, Minot; son, Roger Burchill, Minot; daughters, Susan Burchill, Minot and Connie Sandstrom and her husband, Charles, Plaza; three grandchildren, Stacey, Daren and Michelle; brother, Fay Burchill, Spokane, WA; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roy.

Lucille was born October 24, 1945 in Harvey, ND, the daughter of Rochus and Lena (Vetter) Selensky. She was raised and educated in the Anamoose area.
On February 10, 1964 she married Richard Burgard in Selz. Following their marriage the couple lived in Ruthville. In 1973 they moved to Minot where she since had lived.
She was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers, both Minot. Lucille enjoyed cooking, baking, camping, spending time with her family, friends, and especially her grandchildren.
Survivors: Husband, Richard, Minot; sons, Randy (Julie) Burgard, Sawyer, and Rodney (Nancy) Burgard, Minot; six grandchildren, Kristina, Tia-Lee, Taylor, Alec, Carlie and Erin; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Rev. Melvin Carlson - - 1917 - 2001
Rev. Melvin Carlson, 84, Kenmare, died Sunday, November 11, 2001, at a Kenmare hospital.
He was born June 8, 1917, to John and Esther (Melin) Carlson at Norma, ND. He was educated in the Norma and Kenmare Public Schools and attended Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, ID.
On September 26, 1941, he married the Rev. Bernice E. Adamson at Milan, MN. Pastor Melvin Carlson was ordained to the ministry in the church of the Nazarene on July 7, 1944. Together with Bernice they pastored churches at Norma, Edmunds, Dickinson, Denhoff, Grafton, and Park River, ND and at Viborg, SD. He served for twenty-one years as the District Secretary of the Dakota District with the Church of the Nazarene.
They retired in July of 1985, and moved to Kenmare. In retirement Pastor Carlson continued in ministry by supplying in pulpits throughout North and South Dakota and most particularly in the Kenmare area. He was active in the Kenmare Ministerial Association and taught Bible classes at the Kenmare Baptist Home.

Beverly Charlebois - - 1923 - 2001
Beverly Charlebois, 78, 1813 7th St. SW, Minot, died Monday in a Devils Lake hospital after residing in the nursing home in Devils Lake.
She was born February 10, 1923, in Rugby, ND, to Edwin and Dotte (Connell) Johnson. She attended grade school in Brinsmade, ND and high school in Drake. Following graduation from Drake High School she attended one year of school at the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton.
She moved to Chicago where she trained as an aircraft communicator. She worked at Chicago O'Hare Airport and at other airports in Illinois before transferring to Minot International Airport. In 1946, she married Eloy Charlebois. They lived in Minot and after raising her family, she managed the Gold Bond Stamp Store for 10 years. She was also the office secretary for the Minot Senior Citizens for five years.
Beverly was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, a former member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, and active in the altar societies of both churches in Minot. She loved to bowl and play golf.

Alice Decker - - 1913 - 2001
Alice Decker, 88, formerly of Simcoe, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, in the Rockview Good Samaritan Home, Parshall, ND.
She was born on March 5, 1913, in Simcoe, ND, the daughter of Ole and Christina Larson. She attended school in Simcoe and graduated from Velva High School in 1930. She attended Minot State Teachers College, and received her teaching certificate. She taught in area schools for six years prior to her marriage.
She married Lewis Decker in 1940, in Towner, ND. They made their home in Velva, where her husband, Lewis, worked at the Velva Coal Mine. She was a homemaker for the major part of her life. They moved to Sawyer, ND, where they lived until Lewis died in 1972. Alice lived in Minot until 1998, when she entered the Rockview Good Samaritan Center in Parshall, ND, and remained there until her death.
She was a charter member of the World Wide Church of God, Minot, ND. She was active in the Sawyer homemakers, hobby, and birthday clubs. She was a member of the Green Thumb Organization and the Senior Companions Club, both of Minot.

Lucille Decker - - 1914 - 2001
Lucille Decker, 86, longtime Minot resident, died Dec. 4, 2001, in a hospital in Mesa, AZ, where she and her husband John were spending the winter. Their Minot address is 1201 Glacial Drive.
Lucille Decker was born Dec. 18, 1914, in Maxbass, ND, a daughter of Tom and Margaret (Treacy) Galvin. She was raised at Maxbass and at Minot, where she moved with her family in 1926. Lucille attended McKinley Elementary School and graduated from Minot High School in 1932. She attended Minot State University for a year and the Minot Business College before becoming employed as a stenographer at the Ward County Courthouse. She later moved to Eugene, OR, where, on June 24, 1936, she married John Decker, who also was from Minot. They returned to Minot a year later and Lucille went to work at Westland Oil Co. until 1941, quitting then to raise their children.
Mrs. Decker was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church in Minot and a former member of St. Leo's Church. She was active in the women's confraternity at both parishes. She was a member of the Parent-Teacher associations at Little Flower and Model schools and at Bishop Ryan High School.
Lucille and John have been spending winters in Mesa for the last 27 years. The pair has traveled extensively, visiting every state in the union except Delaware. They have visited 54 countries and all but one of the Canadian provinces. Lucille went along with their son, Jack, to 8 of the 17 Army Air Corp Bases where John was serving during World War II. Together they have been active supporters of the Minot Art Association, the Minot Symphony Association and the Minot Public Library. They also have been involved in activities at the Minot Country Club. Lucille had a definite passion for dancing and indulged that passion whenever and wherever possible, her husband said. At her 80th birthday party, she danced every dance of the evening!
Her longest affiliation, outside of her church, was with the Gertie Club. The Gertie Club was organized in the mists and mysteries of Lake Metigoshe where Lucille and her girlfriends, many of them her high school classmates, had gone for a long summer weekend in 1933. Strictly a social group, the Gerties sought only to retain the bonds of friendship. And in that, they have succeeded, as their members report. There have been lengthy exchanges of round robin letters. When out-of-town members return for a visit, there is a gathering of the Gerties that lasts for hours. They laugh, they cry, they grow hoarse in their chatter, they revel in their friendship and togetherness. Some have died; new members have been welcomed. The club has rarely had more than eight members. In recent years, the Gerties have been meeting every Tuesday and Friday afternoon for tea. Often, Lucille reported to her husband, they repeated the same things on Friday that they had said on Tuesday.
Surviving are her husband John; daughter, Mary Reed and her husband Glen, Colorado Springs, CO; sons, John F. Decker and his wife Marjorie, Marysville, WA, and Mark Decker, Santa Monica, CA; grandchildren, Jeff Decker, Everett, WA, Kristin Decker, Great Falls, MT, and Christopher Reed, Colorado Springs.
Funeral: Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot.
Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service: Friday at 7 p.m. at Little Flower Church.

Edgar L. Deschamp - - 1917 - 2001
Edgar L. Deschamp, 84 , 14 Fairway, Minot, died Monday, December 17, 2001, at Minot care facility.
He was born July 4, 1917, in Westhope, ND, the son of Anthony and Elizabeth Ann (Schuett) Deschamp. He was educated in Westhope and was raised and farmed north of Westhope.
He married Irene Lamoureux on June 12, 1945, at St. Andrews Church in Westhope. The couple lived and farmed north of Westhope where Edgar raised registered Shorthorn Cattle, Columbia and Suffolk Sheep and horses. He also raised and trained Arabian horses and took them to numerous parades including the North Dakota State Fair in Minot. He earned many ribbons from horse shows in Canada, Minnesota and here in North Dakota. One of his orphan standard bred colts raced in Chicago and California. Edgar was 4 - H leader in the Westhope area and assisted many young men with their projects including cattle, sheep and horses.
He was an advocate for natural healing and nutrition. He was one of the earliest licensed reflexologists in North Dakota and he helped many people regain a sense of well being.
He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council #1150, on which he served on numerous honor guards for masses and funerals. He served as past president of the Serra Club, was a parish council member for each of the parishes he attended and was a member of Holy Name Society
Edger loved hunting especially deer, duck and goose.

Thomas Donahue, Jr - - 1956 - 2001
Thomas Donahue, Jr., 45, 917 5th St. NE, Minot, died Tuesday, January 29, 2002, in a Bismarck medical center.
Tom was born on June 18, 1956, in Minot, the son of Tom and Rose (Adkins) Donahue. He attended St. Leo's and then Bishop Ryan High School, where he graduated in 1974. He worked at Morris Rod-weeder in Minot for a time. He moved to Arizona and worked as a welder in the 1980's, and later moved back to Minot and was employed by Plasma Flame.
He attended St. Cloud Technical College and graduated with a degree in Water Management. He returned to Minot and worked at the City of Minot and later was employed at North Prairie Rural Water as a system supervisor. He was involved in a car accident three years ago, which left him disabled and forced him to retire.
Tom helped care for his uncle, Father Joseph Adkins, following Father Adkins retirement. Tom liked bowling, playing softball, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed music, especially rock n' roll. He also enjoyed watching television and was an avid Dale Earnhardt, Sr. fan.
Survivors: Mother, Rose Donahue, Minot; brother, James Donahue, Minot; sister, Mary Nancy Miller, Anchorage, Alaska; niece and nephews, Nikki Miller, Harley Miller, and Jeff Donahue; special friend, Patty Michaelson, Fargo; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, Tom Donahue, Sr.

Dr. Henry DuGarm Sr. - - 1924 - 2002
Dr. Henry K. "Hank" DuGarm Sr., 77, 1011-16th St. NW, died Tuesday, January 15, 2002, in a Minot Medical Center.
Henry was born April 24, 1924, to Franchon Keating DuGarm and Joseph DuGarm on his grandfather's ranch near Molt, Montana. He was raised on this ranch and in Billings, Montana, where he graduated from high school in 1941.
He served in the Army's 758th Field Artillery Battalion in France, Belgium and Germany during World War II, earning three battle star on his campaign ribbon. After his discharge, he attended and graduated from Eastern Montana State College in 1949. He taught elementary school in Montana in Mineral Beach, Frazer, Poplar, Baker and Billings. He was an elementary school principal in Marshall, Minnesota and in Warden, Montana. He served as the superintendent in Musselshell, Montana.
Continuing his education, he received a master's degree in education from Northern Colorado State University in 1952 and his doctorate in education from Montana State University in 1969. He married Mary Louise Delano in 1960. They had four children, Henry Keating Jr., Arthur Delano, Fanchon Louise and Jane Elizabeth.
In 1964, he moved with his family to Minot. Here he began a 25-year association with Minot State College, first as an instructor at Minot Model High School and soon after as a professor in the social science division. As a professor, he taught history, philosophy, constitutional law, comparative religions, social science teaching methods, gifted and talented education methods and extension courses. He also supervised many student teachers.
He served on many college committees as well as serving as the head of the history department. He retired in 1989 as a full professor in the history department.
Hank was a Scottish Rite Mason, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and an American Legion Member as well as a member of numerous professional organizations. He was an active member of the Minot Sertoma Club, where he served as president and as secretary. He also served on the board of directors of the Minot Vocational Workshop. At the governor's request, he served for several years on the North Dakota Developmental Disabilities Planning Council.
Hank spoke to countless community groups in order to discuss the importance of raising children with disabilities at home.
After retiring, Hank annotated the Civil War letters of his wife's ancestors, now available to researchers at the Minnesota History Center. He also wrote his memoirs and two novels and contributed to a published history of Minot. His historical novel, "When Lilacs Bloom Again," was published by North American Heritage Press in 1988.
Hank was devoted to music and he was a loyal, even fanatical listener of the Metropolitan Opera on Saturday afternoons for more than 50 years. He loved to teach, write, read and travel.
Dr. DuGarm is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Louise, Minot; son, Henry Keating Jr., Oakdale, Minnesota; son and daughter-in-law, Arthur Delano and Katherine, St. Paul, Minnesota; daughters, Fanchon Louise, Dickinson, and Jane Elizabeth, Minot.
Cremation has taken place. No memorial service is planned.

Rachel Irene Eichhorst, 54, 1218 2nd St. SE, Minot, died Sunday in a Bismarck hospital.
She was born March 23, 1947, in Grafton, ND, to Phillip and Frances (Nielsen) Eichhorst. She was reared and educated in Washburn, ND and graduated from Washburn High School in 1965. Following her high school graduation, she attended Minot State College where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education. She then attended Montana State University in Bozeman, MT and Herzing Institute in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Also, while living in Montana and Winnipeg, she taught grade school and middle school music. In August of 1976, she went to work as a teacher and secretary/librarian at St. Leo's Catholic School in Minot. She worked there until May of 1984. Rachel was once married to Richard Lorentzen.
Rachel was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in 1960 and has battled the disease since. While she lived in Minot she entertained the resident's with music at Trinity Nursing Home and also volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church where she was active in the Confraternity, St. Cecelia's Guild, the Catholic Daughters, the church choir and played the organ for a short time.
Survivors: brother, Richard Eichhorst and wife Diane, Bismarck and nieces and nephews, Ward, Tania, Darin and Emily Eichhorst of Coleharbor, North Dakota; Jon, Terri, Devon and Sierra Eichhorst of Glendale, Arizona; and Mark and Carin Voigt of Chaska,Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her son, Brent Lorentzen and her parents.

Alice Josephine Engelhard, 90, 310 2nd St. SE, #703, Minot, died Wednesday, September 12, 2001, in a Minot nursing home.
Alice was born March 27, 1911, in Muskego Township, Renville County, ND, the daughter of Herman and Cecelia (Lochthowe) Linnertz. She was raised and attended country school in Muskego Township.
She married Isidor Engelhard on November 3, 1931. They lived and farmed on the Engelhard homestead in Muskego Township. Isidor died in 1983. In January of 1984 Alice moved to Minot, where she since had lived.
Alice was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. She also volunteered at Trinity Nursing Home, Minot, from 1984 until 1997.
