Antonius ‘Tony’ Mayer
Antonius “Tony” Mayer, 58, Nathrop, died Sept. 19, 2003.
He was born in February 1945.
Mr. Mayer was a well-known mason and tradesman in the Upper Arkansas River Valley. His work was noted for its functionality, durability and craftsmanship.
He loved the canyon lands and deserts of the American Southwest. He was frequently seen driving his Unimog through town on his way to trips along the back roads of Bighorn Canyon.
Friends admired him for his hard work, skill and sense of humor.
Mr. Mayer is survived by his son and two daughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Jack Cook’s house, 15365 Ballew Road, Buena Vista.

Patricia Louise ‘Patty’ Strain DeAguero
Patricia Louise “Patty” Strain DeAguero, 58, died at her home in Saguache.
Born March 24, 1945, in Alamosa, she is the daughter of Charles Bob and Daisy Strain.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father and sister, Ramona Steeleman.
She is survived by a son, Terry (Debbie) Strain and daughter, Cindy Archuleta, both of Saguache; grandchildren, Lee, Josh, Crystal, Dom-iniqueca, Desirae and Terri, all of Sag-uache; Tisha and Layo Martinez, both of Salida; great-grandchildren Samantha Leewaye and Damien Martinez, both of Salida; sister, Millie Glover, Delores; brothers, Curtis (Becky) Strain, Delta and Ronnie (Debbie) Strain, Denver; numerous neph-ews, nieces, cousins aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pitkin Avenue Baptist Church, 610 Pitkin Ave., Saguache.

Shannon Lynn Rogers
Shannon Lynn Rogers, 33, Buena Vista, died Oct. 2, 2003, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 18, 1970, in Burley, Idaho, to Larry and Cheri (Mabey) Gentry.
She was employed as a baker at Lobacks Bakery in Buena Vista.
Her interests included the mountains, gardening, cats and anything having to do with the outdoors. She especially loved her son, John.
She is survived by her son, John Rogers, Buena Vista; mother, Cheri Gentry, Buena Vista; grandparents, Ed and Lynn Mabey, Iola, Kan.; uncles, Terry (Kay) Mabey, Moses Lake, Wash. and Tim (Marcia) Mabey, Buena Vista; cousins, Tim (fiancé, Amanda Jensen) Mabey, Samantha Mabey and Crissa Mabey, all of Buena Vista and by special friends, Theresa Saucke and Bobbi DeBuano, both of Salida.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Robert Alton Alway
Robert Alton Alway, formerly of Salida, died at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., Sept. 20, 2003.
He was born in Cheyenne, Wyo., June 14, 1919, to Thomas and Dora Alway.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
Mr. Alway moved from Salida to Citrus Heights in 1947. He worked as a car inspector for Pacific Fruit Express until his retirement.
A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles, and a charter member of the Citrus Heights Sportsman Club, he was known among family and friends for his love of gardening, especially his giant tomatoes and roses, and his avid interest in trains.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas E. Alway and Dora Alway; brothers, Lester E. Alway, Jack Alway, Richard Alway and Delbert Alway; sisters, Lois Campbell, Dorothy Noble and Bernice Thompkins.
Mr. Alway is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ella (Jackson) Alway, Citrus Heights, Calif.; children, Gary Alway and his wife, Betty, Sandra Alway and Gwenn Nygren and her husband, Ron; grandchildren, Ella Dent, Kelly McAnelly, Leane LeMaster, Mario Alway, Aaron Nygren and Rebecca Walker; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Catherine Field, Jamestown, Calif.; sister-in-law, Alice Alway, Moffat and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside services, with military honors, were held at 10 a.m. Sept. 24 at Sylvan District Cemetery, Citrus Heights, Calif.
Geraldine F. Cosslett
Geraldine F. Cosslett died Oct. 1, 2003, in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
She was born Nov. 27, 1905, in Pueblo.
She married Walter L. Cosslett March 27, 1926, in Pueblo. They moved to Salida in 1950.
Mrs. Cosslett was preceded in death by her husband in 1965 and one great-grandchild in 2001.
She is survived by children, Margaret Drake, Dorothy Hobbs, Barbara Fischer, Betty Cosslett and Walter Cosslett Jr.; 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cosslett will be buried next to her husband in private graveside rites at Fairview Cemetery.
Ronald David ‘Duke’ Silva
Ronald David “Duke” Silva died Oct. 4, 2003, in Denver.
He was born Aug. 16, 1937, in Salida.
Mr. Silva was preceded in death by his father, Roney Silva, Salida.
Survivors include his mother, Beatrice Silva, Denver; five children, two brothers, two sisters and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fort Logan Cemetery, Denver.
Following the service a gathering for family and friends will be held at 4747 W. Colfax Ave., Denver.
Pearl L. Auckland
Pearl L. Auckland, 98, a homemaker and resident of Montrose for 15 years, died Sept. 28, 2003, at the Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose.
Born Dec. 5, 1904, in Leb-anon, Kan., Pearl L. Remington was the daughter of Melvin and Mae (Gerlits) Remington. When she was 10 years old, she moved with her parents to Colorado in a covered wagon where they homesteaded near Arlington.
She married Gaven E. Auckland March 23, 1924, in Olney Springs. Pearl and Gaven shared 42 years of marriage before Gaven died Aug. 9, 1966, in Salida.
They raised their family in Eastern Colorado. She lived in Palisade for six years and White Rock, N.M., for three years. After living in Howard for 30 years, she moved to Montrose 15 years ago where she made her home until the time of her death.
Mrs. Auckland attended the Rosemont Baptist Church in Montrose. She belonged to the Pleasant Valley Club in Howard and the Coal Creek Extension Club in Montrose.
She loved to read Western novels, play cards and dominos with her friends and enjoyed spending time in Mexico and Arizona in the winter.
Surviving family members include sons, William Auckland and wife, Nenya, Yuma, Ariz. and Douglas Auckland and wife, Ruth, Aztec, N.M.; daughters, Elizabeth “Betty” and husband, Austin Hall, Montrose and Mary Jane Henrichs, Montrose and formerly of Lena, Wis.; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Gaven, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Clara Belle; granddaughter, Marsha and son-in-law, Alfred Henrichs.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose.
A funeral service will be officiated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Rosemont Baptist Church in Montrose. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Howard Cemetery, Howard.

Willie Gene Voyles
Willie Gene Voyles, 78, former Chaffee County resident, died Oct. 6, 2003, in Sulphur Veteran Center, Sulphur, Okla.
He was born March 12, 1925, in Davis, Okla., to Claud and Willie Velma Young Voyles.
He married Anita Best Voyles Jan. 24, 1948, in Duncan, Okla.
Mr. Voyles lived his early life in Davis, Okla., attending and graduating from Davis High School in 1942. He attended Oklahoma A&M for two years.
He served in the Navy during World War II and was a double Purple Heart recipient.
Mr. Voyles lived in Lawton, Midwest City and Colorado, before returning to Davis in 1988. He lived his last eight years at Sulphur Veteran Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Anita; sons, Michael Voyles and wife, Martha, Pueblo and William Dan Voyles and wife, Debbie, Leadville; brothers, Ross Elgin Voyles, California; J.W. Voyles, Tahlequah, Okla.; Jack Voyles, Moore, Okla.; J. T. Young, Davis, Okla. and Jack Young, Arkansas; grandchildren, Joshua, Seth, Shawnna and Jeremy Voyles and great-grandchild, Brandon Voyles.

Judy K. Owens, 61, Durango, formerly of Salida, died at her residence in Durango April 29, 2003.
Mrs. Owens was born Oct. 13, 1941, in Lincoln, Neb., to Earl and Verla (Van Hook) Boline.
She married Kenneth Owens July 4, 1985, in Salida.
Her interests included quilting, traveling with her husband, Kenneth and spending time with her family.
She was a member of the Antique Tractor Clubs in Delta and the Four Corners area.
Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Jerald J. Simon.
She is survived by her current husband, Kenneth Owens, Durango; son, Jeffrey (Meladee) Simon, Cañon City; daughter, Cheri (Doug) New, Buena Vista; stepson, Jeffrey (Sandi) Owens, Jackson, Mo.; stepdaughter, Melanie (Rob) Collins, Glenrock, Wyo.; brother, Richard (Cathy) Boline, Omaha, Neb.; sister, Billie (Ray) Leavitt, Lincoln, Neb.; nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Shane Bart Berry
Shane Bart Berry, 27, Texas Creek, died April 28, 2003.
Mr. Berry was born Aug. 26, 1975, in Colorado Springs, to Shane Berry and Linda Barger.
He married Christina Sage in September 1996.
Mr. Berry was a mechanic for Faricy Ford. He enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by grandfather, Bart Berry and grandmother, Ilse Schmidt.
Mr. Berry is survived by his wife, Christina Berry; daughter, Kylay Shayne Berry; son, Ethan Berry, all of Texas Creek; his parents; grandmother, Edith Berry, Utah; grandfather, Henry Schmidt; great-grandmother, Katie Nack, Germany; mother and father-in-law, Randy and Brenda Sage, Salida; brothers-in-law, Buck (Melissa) Sage, Nebraska and Wes (Julie) Sage, Salida; grandparents-in-law, Bill (Veronica) Ogden, Salida and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Edward Steven Hall
Edward Steven Hall, 63, Salida, died April 26, 2003, at Columbine Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Hall was born Aug. 1, 1939, in Denver, to Edward S. and Ruth (Spicer) Hall.
He married Kathy Doughten on June 28, 1979, in Nevada.
Mr. Hall was a member of Elks Lodge No. 808, National Rifle Association, American Bowling Congress and a life member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He owned and operated the Super Bowl Lanes for 30 years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid archer and bowler. In recent years, he enjoyed ranching and playing with his dog.
Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Julie Ann Veltrie.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Hall of Howard; sons, Edward Steven (Michele) Hall II, Fort Collins; Mitchell Mount, Jeffrey Mount and Robert (Celest) Mount, all of Fremont, Calif.; sisters, Louella Nash, Sun City West, Ariz. and Loretta Cornell, Lakewood and grandchildren, Brittany Veltrie of Howard, Barry Hall, Fort Collins, Tawny Mount, Ryan Mount and Coleana Mount, all of Fremont, Calif.

Leslie Baumer
Leslie Baumer, 82, died April 24, 2003, at his home in Salida.
He was born June 15, 1920, in Breckenridge, Minn., to Joseph B. Baumer and Sophia (Bates) Baumer.
Mr. Baumer served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945 with the 87th Calvary. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, was in the Harley Davidson Motorized Infantry and received an American Theater Service Medal, a European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal and one Overseas Service Bar.
He married Shirley (McBride) Engel May 3, 1975, in Longmont. They moved to Salida 18 years ago from Rochester, Minn.
He retired from IBM in 1984 as a design engineer.
Mr. Baumer was a member of Elks Lodge No. 808, Veterans of Foreign Wars, flew with the Civil Air Patrol for 23 years, and was a former member of the American Legion and Sertoma Club.
He enjoyed flying, computers, motorcycles, fishing, skiing, roller skating, ice skating and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Baumer was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Audrey Tehrene.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Salida; brother, Kenneth (Betty) Baumer, Ottertail, Minn.; sons, Walter (Liz) Engel, Federal Heights; David (Toni) Engel, Pahrump, Nev.; Donald (Kay) Engel, Surprise, Ariz.; Eric (Nicole) Engel, Lehi, Utah; Michael (Cheryl) Baumer, New Providence, N.J.; Robert (Maureen) Baumer, Westminster and Richard (Stacy) Baumer, Eng-lewood. Also surviving are daughters, Pamela (Jeff) Alvis, Aurora and Joyce Rehn, Greeley and 24 grandchildren.
Mass of the Christian Burial will begin at noon Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

will be at 1 p.m. May 5 at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver.

Ann L. Sweeney
Ann L. Sweeney, 84, long-time Salida resident, died April 21, 2003, after a short illness at the Wheat Ridge home of her daughter and son-in law.
She was born July 30, 1918, in Leadville and moved to Salida at age 10.
She was employed for many years at Salida Drug, retiring in 1981. She was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
An avid gardener, she actively worked in and enjoyed her yard. Her greatest love though was her family. Since her retirement, she split her time between Salida and Denver, never missing birthdays or holidays.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and John; sister, Margaret (Paul) Salerno; brother, Bob (Dor-othy); grandson, Michael (Jerrilyn) and niece, Jami.
She is survived by her daughter, Georgia (Ken); grandchildren, Renee (Dan) Raisch and Lori (Mitch) Reneau; grandchildren, Ryan Ann and Dane Raisch and Austen and Logan Reneau; brother, Jim (Pauline) and many nieces, nephews, and longtime friend, CeCe Baker.

Newborn Katelynn Rose Milstein died July 29, 2003, at 5:30 a.m. at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida.
She was born July 29, 2003 at 12:36 a.m., to Curtis Lynn and Margaret Mary Rose Milstein.
She is survived by her parents of Salida; grandparents, Stephen and Mary Ann Raynoha, Madison, Wis.; Mae and Jim Bowman of the United States Air Force Academy and Samuel and Patricia Milstein of Petoskey, Mich.
Katelynn’s heart was donated through the Donor Alliance.

Michael P. Kinneman
Michael P. Kinneman, 52, Coaldale, died Aug. 2, 2003, at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs.
Mr. Kinneman was born March 9, 1951, in Danville, Ill., to Richard (Pauline) Kinneman.
He was employed for the last seven years at the Buena Vista Correctional Facility as a correctional officer.
He married Cherie Russo July 10,1992, in Hayden Creek. They renewed their vows June 21, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Mr. Kinneman was a physical education teacher in Illinois and had been a substitute teacher in Cotopaxi and Salida.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was an avid Colorado Avalanche fan.
Mr. Kinneman is survived by his parents and wife, Cherie Kinneman, Coaldale; sons, Mike Kinneman of Texas, Stephen Korenek of Mississippi and Ryan Korenek of Coaldale; daughter, Nat-asha Kinneman, Coaldale; sisters, Lana (John) Parker and Paula Moore, all of Illinois; brother-in-law, Barry Russo of Texas and many nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-4 p.m. today at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m.
Interment
will be held at a later date at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Texas.

Linda Bernhart Lehmann
Linda Bernhart Lehmann, 96, formerly of Nathrop, died July 19, 2003 in Colorado Springs after a brief hospitalization.
Mrs. Lehmann was born Aug. 14, 1906, in Chicago, Ill., the second of six children of immigrant parents, Alois and Matilda Bernhart. She was raised in southern Illinois, Chicago and the Chicago suburb of Hinsdale.
Before moving with her husband, Kenneth, to Colorado in 1974, Mrs. Lehmann lived for more than 30 years in Hinsdale, where she was active in community affairs.
A resident at Mount Princeton Hot Springs for 27 years, Mrs. Lehmann was an active member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Buena Vista; former officer of the Columbine Garden Club and AARP; a member of the Arkansas Valley Art Center (formerly Chaffee County Council on the Arts).
She also wrote prose, poetry and short stories, receiving several awards in national American Association of University Women poetry and short-story workshop competitions.
She published two children’s books — “Better Than a Princess” (1978) and “Tilli’s New World” (1983) — based upon research into her mother’s journey to America and early years here.
She was a painter in oil and watercolor and the recipient of several awards and ribbons for her entries in local art exhibits.
Mrs. Lehmann was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth. She is survived by two sons, Scott Kenneth (Rebecca T.) Lehmann of Storrs, Conn. and Ronald Arthur (Janet K.) of Colorado Springs; one grandchild, three step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Barr, of Cameron, Mo. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Lehmann will be re-membered for her considerable creative abilities and skills, her keen intellect, her active interest in the affairs of the church, world, nation, community and neighborhood and her vigor and enthusiasm for life.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 217 Crossman Ave., Buena Vista.

Irma B. Strawn
Irma B. Strawn, 94, Salida, died Aug. 8, 2003, at Colum-bine Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Strawn was born Sept. 12, 1908, in Boise, Idaho, to Alfred Harris and Jennie Florence (Thompson) Higgins.
She was a member of the Modern Woodman and enjoyed writing essays.
Mrs. Strawn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milton R. Strawn and many brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her sons, Richard (Anne) Strawn, Ignacio; Melvin (Bernice) Strawn, Salida and Daniel (Sandra) Strawn, Vancouver, Wash.; sister-in-law, Miriam Higgins, Boise, Idaho and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Samuel Milstein gave a eulogy for his granddaughter.

Robert E. Zechman
Robert E. Zechman, 65, Cotopaxi, died Aug. 1, 2003, at Park View Medical Center in Pueblo.
He was born in Baltimore, Md., August 23, 1937. Cremation took place at Montgomery & Steward crematorium Aug. 4.
His wife, Barbara Ann Zechman, survives him.
They celebrated their 44th anniversary Jan. 3. He is also survived by his daughter, Kassia Lathrop, her husband, Jason and granddaughter, Hailey, of Longmont; son, Jeffrey Zechman and wife, Katrina of Conifer; cousin Phyllis and Billy Grimes of Madison, Ala.; and cousin Dick and Helen Hood of York, Pa.
Mr. Zechman served as Staff Sgt. in the Air Force for four years and graduated from the University of Colorado with a bachelor of science degree in engineering physics.
He was a geophysicist with Marathon Oil Co. for four years and a senior programmer for IBM for 26 years, when he retired in 1992.
Mr. Zechman enjoyed photography, military history, classical and bluegrass music, fishing, hunting, family camping, boating, travelling and reading.
Memorial services will be held Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. at Mountain View United Methodist Church, 355 Ponca Pl., Boulder. A reception will follow.

Ralph J. Mazza, 81, Salida, died Aug. 11, 2003, at Columbine Manor Nursing Home.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Mazza was a lifetime member of Salida Elks Lodge No. 808, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
His interests included hunting, fishing, being outdoors, cutting wood, dancing, gardening and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Mazza, Salida; daughters, Sandra (John) Switzer, Frederick and Sheryl (Larry) Falsetta, Aurora; brothers, Frank (Shirley) Mazza, Salida; Albert Mazza, Salida and Pete Mazza, Cañon City; sisters, Rosie Mazza, Salida and Therese Mazza, Salida; grandchildren, Tracie (Kurt) Topp, California and Amber Switzer, Frederick and by many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Mazza was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Art Mazza and sisters, Vera DePue and Lucille Fusco.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass of the Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment
will take place at Fairview Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Angel of Shavano Hospice through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
