Dorothy Haley (Mac Nab)
Dorothy Haley (Mac Nab), 89, formerly of Pueblo, died Aug. 12, 2003, in Cañon City.
She was the youngest daughter of Archie and Gertrude (Sneddon) Mac Nab, who preceded her in death.
Her husband, Harry “Slick” Haley died Jan. 2, 1990 and stepdaughter, Marsha Haley Smith died April 21, 1990.
Mrs. Haley was born, raised and educated in Salida.
She was employed by Woolworth Co. for 25 years, the last 15 years as assistant manager.
She married Harry “Slick” Haley on Feb. 13, 1946. He worked for the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad in Salida.
Mrs. Haley is survived by step-grandchildren, Warren Smith and Rena Tibbetts; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Dalton Tibbetts; nephews, Charles A. Bell, Gordon (Marsha), Arlo (Pam), Clarence (Carole) Bell, Rick, Dawn, Danella and Darcy; nieces, Marlene Stoesel and son, Greg, Charlene (Bill) Monson, Tanya and Brandon.
Viewing will be from 3-5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Imperial Funeral Home, 5450 W. Colo 78, Pueblo.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Fairview Cemetery, Salida.
Tim Duane White
Tim Duane White, 44, died Aug. 8, 2003, in Colorado.
He was born to Don and Jody White in Liberal, Kan., May 16, 1959. He was fifth of six children. Many people may know him by the names Fluture and Ernie.
Mr. White attended and graduated from Drumright High School, Drumright, Okla., in 1977. He played six years of football as a member of the Drumright Tornadoes.
In football he received All-State, All-Star, All-Conference, All-District, Team Captain and Homecoming King. After high school, he attended Okmulgee State Tech in Okmulgee, Okla., for two years. He graduated with an associate degree in commercial and residential electricity in 1979.
Mr. White enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed camping in the mountains, fishing, hunting, golfing and playing sports with his children.
He was living in Poncha Springs, with his wife Nikole and their children Caleb, Bailey and Kelsey. He is also survived by his mother, Jody White; siblings, Don White, Mike White, Ronnie White, Tom White and Robin Dennis; his other children, Autum White, Cameron White, Cory White and Candace White; step-daughter, Jesica White and several family members and friends.
Mr. White was preceded in death by his father, Donald LeRoy White and nephew, Mart Tel Brandon.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. today at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Drumright, Okla., with Rev. Will Fine officiating. Interment
will be at Jennings Cemetery, Jennings, Okla., with services under the direction of Hutchins-Maples Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Don White, Mike White, Ronnie White, Tom White, Robin Dennis, Phil Higgins and Dennis Higgins.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tim White Educational Fund c/o Spiritbank, Drumright, Okla., which has been established for his children.
Roxanne (Reynolds) Palmer
Roxanne (Reynolds) Palmer, 48, Salida, died Aug. 8, 2003, at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs.
She was born in Salida July 6, 1955.
Mrs. Palmer worked at many area businesses and also baby sat for many years.
She was happiest being with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Harry Palmer, Salida; parents, Norman (Pete) and Barbara Reynolds, Salida; daughter, Michelle (Austin) Koch, Coaldale; son, Anthony J. (Jade) Palmer, Nathrop; granddaughter, Nova Lee Koch; brother, Brad (Tammy) Reynolds, Fort Madison, Iowa and great-grandmother, Zelma Gordon, Crane, Texas.
In lieu of church services, family and friends are invited at 9:30 a.m. Friday to 7860 CR 146, Salida, for spreading of remains. Everyone is invited to 507 Chilcott St. afterward to celebrate her life.
Ralph J. Mazza
Mass of the Christian Burial for Ralph J. Mazza was held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Fr. Henry Grodecki C.M. officiated the service. The organist was Georgianna Smith and the soloist was Cathryn Bishop Campbell.
Musical selections were “How Great Thou Art,” “Ave Maria,” “Be Not Afraid” and “Amazing Grace.”
Pallbearers were Frank Mazza, Albert Mazza, Steve Pacheco, Gene Martellaro, Frank Cicerelli and Ted Pulos.
Interment
followed at Fairview Cemetery where members of the Elks Lodge No. 808 held their traditional funeral service and the members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars held their traditional flag presentation and played taps.
Arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Domnick A. ‘Dom’ Pasquale
Domnick A. “Dom’’ Pasquale, 85, died Aug. 16, 2003, at his home in Cañon City.
He was born Oct. 18, 1917, in Salida to Frank DiPasquale and Sally Muto.
Mr. Pasquale was born, raised and educated in Salida.
He was a life member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 610, Sons Of Italy and the National Rifle Association. He was also a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
Mr. Pasquale served during World War II in the Army as a cook, which was where he learned his lifelong avocation.
After his discharge he managed the Costello Lounge in Salida. He later established Tami’s Café in Cañon City which he operated until the 1970s. He then opened and operated McClure’s into the mid-1980s.
He was an avid hunter and an expert fly fisherman. His favorite spot was the Arkansas River.
Mr. Pasquale married Nelle L. Hamlin June 8, 1957, in Cañon City. She preceded him in death in 1988.
He is survived by his daughter, Judi Burgett, Cañon City; stepsons, Lee (Illa) Parker, Goodland, Kans.; Russell “Rusty” (Ann) Parker, Sho-shone, Idaho; six grandchildren including Tami Bentley, Cañon City and Shawn (Laurie) Wertzbaugher, Cañon City; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Carl Pasquale, Raton, N.M.; Paul (Toni) Pasquale, Walnut Creek, Calif. and Johnny Pasquale, Salida and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Pasquale was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, Robert and a sister, Letitia.
Viewing will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home, 1449 S. Ninth St., Cañon City.
A scripture service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery. The minister will be Fr. James King.

Matthew Jacob McWhirter
Matthew Jacob McWhirter was born Aug. 19, 2003, at 2:15 a.m. at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center. He died a short time later.
He will be missed by his parents, Misha and Gavin Mc-Whirter of Maysville; brothers, Drew McWhirter of Maysville and Joel McWhirter of Buena Vista; grandparents, Kathy Chappell of Maysville and Donelda and Richard Rausch of Odessa, Texas and uncle and aunt, Dan and Sarah Miller of Orlando, Fla.

George H. Smith
George H. Smith, 89, a resident of Salida since 1926, died Aug. 18, 2003, at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.
Mr. Smith was born Feb. 26, 1914, in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, to George and Mary (Siverwright) Smith.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Smith was a Broncos fan and has held season tickets for the past 41 years.
He is survived by his wife, Veta Smith, Colorado Springs; brother, Jack Smith, Florida and many cousins.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma Smith and two sisters.
It was Mr. Smith’s request that cremation take place and no services be held.

Pauline C. Mazzulla
Pauline C. Mazzulla, Denver, died Aug. 20, 2003.
She was born June 8, 1910, in Salida.
She is survived by brothers, Ralph (Betty) Mazzulla and John Mazzulla and by numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, great-grand-nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3020 Federal Blvd, Denver.
Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 3549 Navajo St., Denver.
Interment
will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Denver.
LaGurna J. Norton
LaGurna J. Norton 75, Ordway and formerly of Salida, died Aug. 18, 2003, at Crowley County Nursing Center, Ordway.
Mrs. Norton was born March 21, 1928, north of Boone, to Dhu Wright and Ressa Bealmer Wright
At Mrs. Norton’s request, there will be cremation after visitation opportunity for family and friends.
A service of remembrance will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fowler Christian Church with Pastor Don Sniff officiating. Private interment
of cremains will occur later at Fort Lyon National Cemetery.
Mrs. Norton lived in the area most of her life. She attended Prairie Hill School in Boone, and married Joseph G. Norton Nov. 20, 1947, at Highland Baptist Church.
The family lived in the area until 1965 when they moved to Salida.
They returned to Ordway in 1983, where they have since resided.
Mrs. Norton was a member of Fowler Christian Church and a lifetime member of John Butler Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 336 ladies auxiliary of Ordway.
Survivors include her husband Joe Norton, Ordway; son, Roger J. (Juanita) Norton, Wichita, Kan.; daughters Melinda (R. Wayne) Rusher, Ordway and Marlene (Tony) Machado, Greeley.
She is also survived by a brother Duane (Evelyn) Wright, Fowler; sisters, Joyce Caddell-Hively, Pittsburg, Texas and Zola Bynum, Fowler; sisters-in-law, Josephine Lind of Fort Collins and Shirley Wright of Manzanola; grandchildren, Heath (Amanda) Rusher and Kelli Jo Rusher, Ordway; Brandy (Bob) Edmonds, Kersey and Tanner Machado, Fort Collins.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Aug. 21, and will be from 2-6 p.m. today at Griffy Family Funeral Home Chapel in Ordway.
The family requests memorial contributions to the Crowley County Ambulance Service. Memorials may be made directly or through Griffy Family Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
Sandra Kay Tunstall
Sandra Kay Tunstall died Aug. 22, 2003.
She celebrated her 59th birthday Aug. 10, 2003, with her family and many of her friends.
Mrs. Tunstall was born in Colorado to Lucky and Vickie Thurnau.
She was preceded in death by her birth father.
Her father throughout the remainder of her life is Duane Morgan, whose military career took Vickie, Sandy, her brother, Gary, and Duane’s children, Danny and Judy, to Irving, Texas.
There she met her husband and companion of 41 years, Bill Tunstall. Their children, Tammy and Kenneth, were born in Texas; however they always knew they wanted to return to Colorado.
They moved to Howard in 1981 and continued their commitment to friends, family, church and community.
They ran Sugarbush Campground and General Store in Howard for more than 13 years and started the Howard Chili Cook-off.
Mrs. Tunstall had many talents, including a great capacity for loving. She loved to have friends visit the Last Resort and stay in their cabins.
Her grandsons, Jacob and Steven, sons of Kenneth and Stephanie Tunstall, gave her great joy. She spent hours watching and playing with them, seldom telling them “no.” She had a close and nurturing relationship with both of her own children.
She also was gifted in arts and crafts and once owned a ceramics store in Texas. She painted, shaped, and shared her talents with those of us lucky enough to be a part of her life.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; children, Tammy Tunstall and Kenneth and Stephanie Tunstall; grandchildren, Jacob and Steven; parents, Vickie and Duane Morgan; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Chris Thurnau; sister, Judy Friesen; sister-in-law, Peggy Taylor; nieces, Margaret (Chad) Mueller, Stephanie Friesen and Katrina Thurnau; nephews, Kenneth (Leighann) Hardage, Jason Thurnau, Tony (Michelle) Taylor and Justin (Renee) Friesen and many great-nieces and nephews as well as honorary grandchildren and countless friends who provided support and friendship through the years.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the family home in Howard.

Elizabeth Ann Smith
Elizabeth Ann Smith, 86, died Aug. 23, 2003, in Cañon City.
She was born June 18, 1917, in Dorchester, Neb., to the late John and Clara (Jone) Ramsay.
She is survived by her only son, John R. (Nancy) Anderson, Lakewood; grandchildren, Tamara (Dale) Shallenberger, Lakewood and Caroline (Scott) Colburn, Golden; great-granddaughters, Kailey, 9 and Tarah Shallenberger, 6 and Sydney Colburn, 18 months; cousin, William “Billy” Ferguson, Chicago, Ill. and two nieces and one nephew.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Fair-view Cemetery in Salida, with Reverend James McKean officiating.

Asa Edwin Davis
Asa Edwin Davis died of pulmonary fibrosis at home on Whitney Lake near Laguna Park, Texas, Nov. 27, 2003.
He was born Dec. 3, 1929, to Irving Elbert and Mattie Cumile Patterson Davis in Dallas, Texas.
Mr. Davis was a veteran of the Army Air Force, the Air Force and the Marine Corps Reserves and served in Korea from 1952-53.
He attended Southern Methodist University and was a member of Delta Sigma Phi. He finished his bachelor of science in mathematics and geology at Baylor University in August 1959.
Mr. Davis did preliminary work on Amistad Dam with the International Boundary Commission, preliminary and supervisory work on the Missouri Water Projects, on the Auburn Dam and California Water Projects while with the Army Corps of Engineers and he worked on the Frying Pan Arkansas Project from 1967-78.
He spent the rest of his career as an engineering geologist with the Bureau of Reclamation in Colorado, Utah and Texas. He retired as project geologist on the Choke Canyon Dam at Three Rivers, Texas in 1980.
He was a member of the government inspection dive team during his service with the bureau and a member of the Association of Engineering Geologists and the California Association of Registered Geologists.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Toland Davis; son, Steven W. Davis (Patti), Lancaster, Texas and grandsons, Michael Gareth Davis (Crystal), Pittsburgh, Pa. and Joshua Daniel McClenny Davis (Bonnie), Loveland; son, Kirk Edwin Davis (Marilyn), Alma, Ark. and grandsons, Neal Edwin Davis, Sao Paulo, Brazil; Mark Edward Davis, Eric Evan Davis and Ryan Ellsworth Davis, Alma, Ark.; daughter, Gail Lynn Davis Barnhart (Joe), Dillon, Mont. and grandsons, Kevin Scott Barnhart, Adam Karl Barnhart (Annie) and Keith Alvin Barnhart, all of Denver; sister, Sophia Curb, Irving, Texas and brother, Irving Elbert Davis, Flower Mound, Texas and many nieces and nephews and kin in the Dallas area.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dona Evonne Lynch and niece, Elaine Shepard.
Evelyn Marie Bergman Melavic
Evelyn Marie Bergman Melavic died at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center on Nov. 28, 2003.
A lifelong Salida resident, she was preceded in death by her parents, Emanuel and Ruth Bergman; brothers, Manuel and Thomas Bergman and sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Harold Mac-Keen.
She is survived by her husband, Frank; daughter, Sherry and husband, Burrell Welton, Rifle; daughter, Wendy and husband, Kent Edwards, Grand Junction; granddaughters, Erin and Lisa Welton, Chandler, Ariz.; grandsons, Branden and Craton Edwards, Grand Junction; sisters-in-law, Marge Bergman, Pueblo and Ruth Bergman, Buena Vista and several nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Salida High School and working as a telegraph operator for Western Union, she married Frank Melavic May 3, 1947.
She worked for Colorado Mountain College and B&B Printers.
Mrs. Melavic was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the United Methodist Church.
She was an avid community volunteer, having served as Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls, 4-H leader, and dedicated more than 8,000 hours as a hospital auxiliary member, an association she enjoyed until the time of her death.
She also spent time reading with Longfellow Elementary School students.
Services, under the care of Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home, will be at 1 p.m. today at United Methodist Church, Fourth and D streets, with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the HRRMC auxiliary.

A couple of poems Mrs. Melavic wrote were read.
Musical selections were “Old Rugged Cross,” “Hymn of Promise,” “September Song,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Lara’s Theme” and “Amazing Grace.”
The organist was Georgianna Smith and soloists were Cathryn Bishop Campbell and Branden Edwards.
Pallbearers were Kent Ed-wards, Branden Edwards, Craton Edwards, Burrell Welton, Preston Kaess and James Preston.
Honorary pallbearers were Bud Becker, Tony Gentile, Hap Knickerbocker, Paul Koons, Stuart Nadler and Paul Nelson.
Interment
was at Fairview Cemetery.

E. Lucille Ireland
E. Lucille Ireland, 89, died Dec. 2, 2003, in Cañon City.
She was born Feb. 2, 1914, in Corydon, Iowa, a daughter of the late David Albert and Jennie Pearl (Wells) McCullough.
Mrs. Ireland moved to Colorado with her family in 1926.
She married Walter O. Ireland Sept. 14, 1932. He preceded her in death in 1979.
They were ranchers in Western Fremont County and created the Acres of Ireland subdivision in Howard.
Mrs. Ireland worked at the Salida Livestock Commission Co. before retiring in 1986 and moving to Cañon City.
She was past president of the Fremont County Cowbelles, past chairman of the Howard-Cotopaxi Christian Women’s Club and was Sunday school secretary at the Howard Community Church for several years.
Mrs. Ireland is survived by her sons, Darrel (Cheryl) W. Ireland, Colorado Springs and Gene L. Ireland, Howard; sister, Mable Hamilton, Cañon City; brother, Dale McCullough; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Holt Family Funeral Home in Cañon City. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Community Church of Howard with Pastor Randy Samuels officiating. Interment
will follow at the Howard Cemetery.
Richard ‘Bub’ Louis Richardson
Richard “Bub” Louis Richardson, 76, died at his home in Centennial Dec. 4, 2003.
He was born May 21, 1927 in Manassa, to Louis and Celesta “Tootsie” Nichols Richardson.
In 1967, he married Viola May Claunch in Alamosa.
Mr. Richardson served in the Army during World War II and worked for many years as a miner.
He enjoyed traveling, the outdoors, taking rides, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching daytime television and going out for coffee.
His favorite responses when asked what he was doing included “Just hackin’ it” and “Doing what I do best ... nothing.”
Mr. Richardson is survived by his grandchildren, Larry (Dianna “Little mother hen”) Hicks, Centennial; Robert (Terry Langan) Hicks, Cañon City; Tammy “Wammy” (George Husky) Houle, Phoenix, Ariz.; Duane “Dink” (Jennifer) Leroux, Fort Collins; Starla Leroux, Lamar.
Surviving great-grandchildren are Douglas “Twig” Hicks, Evan “Casanova” Hicks, Christopher “Oinker” Houle, Stephanie “Hootie” Houle, Gregg “Roscoe” Hicks, Miriam Wilson, Tabitha Leroux, Monica Leroux, Keith Leroux, Karlee Leroux, Jake Craigor and Josh Craigor.
Other survivors are his brothers and sisters, Lee “Gers” (Elaine) Richardson, Betty “Daisy” (Jim) Horton, Antonito; Eldon “Dewey” (Maryann) Richardson, Manassa; Lanella “Bus” (Jobie) Goodge, Antonito; William “Pete” (Leeanne) Richardson, Vernal, Utah; Doris (Harry) Weideman, Apache Junction, Ariz., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Both parents, his wife, Viola and one daughter, Caraleane West, all preceded him in death.
A visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. today at Rogers Family Mortuary in Manassa. A funeral service will follow at the Manassa Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Interment
will follow services in the San Luis Valley Cemetery in Monte Vista.

Barbara Landman McGinn
Barbara Landman McGinn, 85, died Dec. 5, 2003, surrounded by family, friends and the “Angels” of Shavano Hospice at her daughter’s home.
She was born April 24, 1918, in Rawsonville, Vt., the daughter of Merle K. Landman and Gertrude L. Chatfield.
Mrs. McGinn graduated from Leland & Gray Seminary, Townshend, Vt., in 1936 and re-enrolled for one post-graduate year.
She worked as a telephone operator for New England Telephone & Telegraph until 1944 and was a volunteer during World War II.
She married Maurice Roy McGinn June 19, 1944, and moved to Londonderry, Vt., where she remained until 1997, when she moved to Salida.
Mrs. McGinn played on her high school basketball team for four years, was an award-winning actress in her high school drama club, spoke fluent French, skied, snowshoed, skated, swam, hiked, fished and hunted. She was a seamstress, cook and writer.
During her lifetime, she read thousands of books, read the Bible twice and quoted Shakespeare and countless poets.
She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice McGinn, in 1986; brothers, Winfred Landman in 1978 and Leland Landman in 1992.
Mrs. McGinn is survived by her daughters, Patricia Stone, Hollister, Calif. and Kathleen Ainsworth and her husband, Ken, Buena Vista; grandchildren, Kevin and Lance Stone and Amanda and Joshua Ainsworth; five great-grandchildren; sister, Anita Rich-ardson, Rawsonville, Vt. and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Salida Apartments with Pastor Joel Morgan, First Baptist Church of Buena Vista, officiating.

Olan H. Epperson
Olan H. Epperson, 88, Howard, died Dec. 7, 2003, in Salida.
He was born Sept. 5, 1915, in Sapulpa, Okla., a son of the late James H. and Louisa (Hale) Epperson.
He married Eva Eldredge Dec. 8, 1977, in Bentonville, Ark. She preceded him in death Nov. 15, 2003.
Mr. Epperson served in the U.S. Navy. Until his retirement, he was employed as a ship inspector.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church, former Cub Scout Master, former Worthy Advisor for Job’s Daughters and a member of 118 Upton Masonic Lodge, Bremerton, Wash. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 239, Bremerton, Wash., and the Elks Lodge.
He is survived by children Jim Epperson, Howard; Jan-elle (Jim) Wiley, Port Orchard, Wash.; Patrick Kelley, How-ard; Karen (Jim) Foster, Howard and Michael (Rebecca) Kelley, Iron Mountain; grandchildren Jeff Harris, Sean Kelley, Erin Kelley, Brannon Kelley, Jolene Ervin, Myra (Jeremey) Foster Smith, Johnna (Maury) Miller, Jim (Chelsea) Goodwin and great grandchildren, Madison and Ryan Smith, Keldyn Miller, Dustin Harris, Ryanne and Brandon Ervin, Willow Mize, Bradley and Gavin Kelley.
Mr. Epperson was also preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Masonic Temple at Third and G streets in Salida. Inurnment will be in Howard Cemetery in Howard.
Arrangements are through Holt Family Funeral Home, Cañon City.
