Lois W. Hoffman
Lois W. Hoffman, 82, died Dec. 19, 2003, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida.
She was born to Walter and Beulah (Surber) Gifford in Belden, Neb., April 10, 1921. She was the eldest of three children.
Mrs. Hoffman went to school in Belden, graduating in 1939. She attended Wayne State Teachers College in 1940 and taught in Belden Country Schools for several years.
She moved to Burlington, where she met her husband, Leo J. Hoffman. They were married April 20, 1948 in Burlington.
When Mr. Hoffman re-turned from Korea, they moved to Englewood, where they lived until 1985 when they moved to Salida.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Leo.
Mrs. Hoffman is survived by daughter, Cynthia (Michael) Welch, Salida; sons, Thomas Hoffman, Northglenn; Richard (Holly) Hoffman, Parker and Michael (Sharron) Hoffman, Westerville, Ohio; grandchildren, Megan Welch, Aaron and Brice Hoffman, Frank and Marissa Hoffman and Preston and Clinton Hoffman; brothers, Robert and Harry Gifford, Washington and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Ken Przybla of Pax Christie Catholic Church at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary on Dec. 23.
Pallbearers were Thomas Hoffman, Richard Hoffman, Michael Hoffman, Aaron Hoffman, Brice Hoffman and Michael Welch.
She was laid to rest beside her husband in Olinger Chapel Hill Cemetery, Littleton.
Ben Warren Urban
Ben Warren Urban, 70, Wildwood, Texas, died Dec. 24, 2003, at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Wildwood/Village Mills United Methodist Church, under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary, 700 W. Saratoga Hwy., Kountze, Texas 77625.
A native of Houston, he lived in the area for 30 years and was a retired game warden.
Survivors include his wife, Beth Urban, Wildwood; son, Lawrence Urban, Grand Rapids, Mich.; daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” Urban and her husband, Jim, Blanco, Texas and Anna Lynn Urban and her husband, Warrick, Tonga, South Pacific; sister, Sandra “Sandy” Robertson and her husband, Karroll, College Station, Texas and grandchildren, Brendon Feagans and Ryan Feagans.

Lucille A. Baron
Lucille A. Baron, 71, life-long Salida resident, died July 4, 2003, at Heart of The Rockies Regional Medical Center.
Ms. Baron was born Oct. 28, 1931, in Salida, to Anthony and Johanna (Godec) Baron.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Ms. Baron worked for Salida Building and Loan and St. Joseph Credit Union for many years.
For the last 10 years she lived at Mt. Shavano Manor.
Ms. Baron was preceded in death by her parents and aunt, Susie Godec and uncle, Albert Godec.
She is survived by many cousins.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment
will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Dixie Jo Revis
Dixie Jo Revis, 65, Salida, , died July 4, 2003, at Heart of The Rockies Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Revis was born Dec. 12, 1937, in Albuquerque, N.M., to Elmo and Christina (Price) Kinyon.
She married John Revis many years ago and they moved to Salida from Southern California more than seven years ago.
She was a legal secretary for a California state judge prior to retirement.
Mrs. Revis was also a concert pianist and artist.
Most recently, she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Revis was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, John Revis, Salida; sister, Alice Kinyon, Salida; sons, John (Joan) Revis, Littleton and Michael Revis, Sterling, Alaska and grandchildren, Tiffany, John, Megan and Jerome Revis.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church. Interment
will follow at Fairview Cemetery. A reception is planned after interment
at First Presbyterian Church.

Mass of the Christian burial for Lucille A. Baron was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Fr. Henry Grodecki C.M. officiated the service. The organist was Georgianna Smith and the soloist was Jeanne Kostelic.
Musical selections were “Prayer of St. Francis,” “Ave Maria” and “You Are Mine.”
Pallbearers were John Coleman, Alex Walker, Stan Pro-venza and John Tancik.
Honorary pallbearer was Ted Sarai.
Interment
took place at Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Douglas Revis, Jerome Revis, Chuck Coffman, David Davidoff, John Skinner and Dan Timbrell.

Bryan David Dreher
Bryan David Dreher, 35, a resident of Salida for the past eight years, died July 9, 2003.
He was born Aug. 13, 1967, in Allentown, Pa., to Randolph and Cindy (VanScyoc) Dreher.
Mr. Dreher has been a rafting guide for the past 20 years and is well known in the area for his expertise in rafting and kayaking. He was employed at Clear Creek Rafting Co. as a guide and as manager at their Royal Gorge Office.
He was a member of the 2002 Men’s U.S. Rafting Team. He competed in numerous rafting and kayaking competitions and has always placed high in the events.
His other interests include cooking, carpentry and playing the guitar.
Mr. Dreher is survived by his daughter who will celebrate her first birthday July 18, Lydia Ann Dreher of Salida; father, Randolph Dreher and mother, Cindy Kichline, both of Bethlehem, Pa.; sister, Diane Pingarelli, Salsbury, Pa. and numerous friends in the area.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Stone Bridge river put-in, off CO 291 in Salida.

Bryan Dreher, 35, Salida, died early Wednesday after the vehicle he was driving went off U.S. 285 and more than 350 feet down an emb-ankment.
The single car wreck occurred about 3 a.m. about eight miles north of Poncha Springs.
Colorado State Trooper Gary Flippen and Sgt. Martin Petrik reported Dreher was southbound when he lost control of the vehicle.
After leaving the left side of the road, Dreher’s vehicle went about 350 feet down an embankment where it rolled, hit a barb wire fence and continued down the embankment.
Troopers reported Dreher was thrown from the vehicle and was found in a creek, beside the right front passenger door. The vehicle stopped on its wheels in the creek bed.
Chaffee County Coroner Randy Amettis pronounced Dreher dead at the scene at 5:30 a.m.
Authorities reported Dreher wasn’t using his seatbelt, and estimated he was traveling 70 miles per hour.
The posted speed limit, officers said, is 60 mph.
Amettis said toxicology test results are pending and it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
The cause of the accident and of Dreher’s death are reportedly undetermined.
Dreher’s daughter, Lydia Ann Dreher, will celebrate her first birthday July 18.
Charles Richard Caynor
Charles Richard Caynor, 50, a lifetime resident of Salida, died July 11, 2003.
He was born Dec. 12, 1952, in Fort Benning, Ga., to Charlene (Caynor) Nelson.
His passions in-cluded his children, family, friends and the mountains. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and enjoyed camping and arrowhead hunting. People also knew him as a man of many trades.
He was preceded in death by his son, Erin Joel Timberline; mother, Charlene Nelson; grandparents, Charles Buffin (Dutch) and Eva Haley and Aunt Dorothy (Dot) and Uncle Willis Sidener.
He is survived by his son, Isaac Taylor Caynor, Pueblo and daughter, Tara Renee Caynor, Salida; grand-son, Lucian Caynor, Texas; sisters, Cathy (Gus) Argys, Salida; Teresa (Larry) Cummins, Spencer, Wis. and many friends and loved ones.
A remembrance will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Triple M Lounge. People who loved him and would like to share their memories, please attend.
His family will attend a memorial at a later date on the family’s property on Taylor Mountain.

Norma R. Imig
Norma R. Imig, 90, died June 30, 2003, in Mesa, Ariz.
Mrs. Imig was preceded in death by her son, W. Gerry Imig, Salida.
She is survived by her husband, Warner Imig, Mesa, Ariz.; sister, Ruth Shurtleff, Lincoln, Neb.; daughter, Betsy Imig, Boulder; daughter, Lynn Imig and partner, Cathy Hanisits, Denver; grandchildren, Kimberlee Imig, Fort Collins; John (Carin) Imig, Peoria, Ariz. and Sarah Imig, Denver; great-grandsons, Christopher and Forrest Imig, Fort Collins and Bradley and Brian Imig, Peoria, Ariz.; daughter-in-law, Virginia Imig, Salida.
The Imigs previously lived in Boulder and they have been frequent visitors to Salida during the past 35 years.
Private interment
was held July 6 in Boulder.

Matt C. Glivar
Matt C. Glivar, 81, a lifetime Salida resident, died July 14, 2003, at Columbine Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Glivar was born Feb. 15, 1922, in Salida, to John and Mary (Kralich) Glivar.
He served in the Army during World War II.
At one time he worked for the U.S. Forest Service.
He was also involved in the family ranching business for many years.
Mr. Glivar was a member of the American Legion and St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his brothers, Joe Glivar, Salida; Frank Glivar, Salida; Rudy Glivar; Salida, Martin Glivar, Salida and Carl (Lucille) Glivar, Anchorage, Alaska; sister, Anne Darling, Salida; nephew, Carl (Sally) Glivar, Poulsbo, Wash. and grand nephews Justin and Brett Glivar of Poulsbo, Wash.
Visitation is scheduled from 1-4 p.m. today at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday and Mass of the Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Interment

David John Switalski
David John “Skeeter” Switalski, 43, died July 13, 2003, in Saguache County as the result of a work-related accident.
He was born Oct. 1, 1959, in Flint, Mich., to Donald and Arlene (Gorsalitz) Switalski.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Switalski owned S&H Excavation, Buena Vista.
He lived and worked in Park and Chaffee counties for the last 20 years.
Mr. Switalski was a highly skilled excavator and took pride in the work he did. He had an enthusiasm and passion for life.
He is survived by his daughter, Linsey Ann Hoyt Switalski; son, David James Hoyt Switalski, Buena Vista; brothers, Daniel and Donald and sisters, Sheryl and Teresa.
Mr. Switalski was preceded in death by a brother.
Private cremation was held. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Buena Vista.

Cole Walker
Cole Walker died at his home in Saguache on July 17, 2003, surrounded by friends and family.
He was born in Cañon City and was reared by Merl and Viola Ogden of Salida.
Mr. Walker was a successful horseman throughout his life and spent the last 20 years in Saguache.
He served in the U.S. Navy, was a Chaffee County Deputy Sheriff and was the Undersheriff in Saguache.
Mr. Walker is survived by his sister, Barbara Kwiek; children, Twyla Ann Livings of Howard and Coleman Bill Walker of Del Notre and grandchildren, Jessica Collins, Saguache; Jamie Livings, Howard and Jeremiah Walker, Del Norte.
Ruby Calvano
Ruby Calvano, 72, died July 19, 2003, at her home.
She was born Aug. 19, 1930, in Mogote, to Fidel and Olivama Roybal.
Mrs. Calvano was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Phillip Arthur Roybal.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Tony Calvano, Salida; children, Don (Irene) Calvano, Donna (Tom) Musgrove, Sherry (Francis) Dere, Beverly MacKinon and Louis Calvano; brothers, Waldo (Vonnie) Roybal, Raymond (Sadie) Roybal and Gene Roybal; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was cremated and memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Solomon G. ‘Sol’ Torres
Solomon G. “Sol” Torres, Salida, died July 24, 2003, at home.
He was born Sept. 12, 1922, in Capulin, to Joseph Eugene and Gertrude Gonzales Torres.
Mr. Torres served 24 years in the U.S. Army and served in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars. He served in the infantry, Military Police and Signal Service.
For his distinguished service he was awarded, among many others, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He retired in 1969 from the Army as master Sergeant.
He worked for the postal service, retired and moved to Salida.
Mr. Torres was a member of the Elks Club, Knights of Columbus, National Rifle Federation, Los Amigos, Trout Unlimited and the Wildlife Federation. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by both parents; brother, Alex Torres and sister, Lily Torres Gonzales.
Mr. Torres is survived by his wife, Beatrice Armenta Torres; daughters, Ingrid Pomeroy (Steve) of San Leandro, Calif. and Renate Harrison (Bill) of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Eric Harrison, Sean Harrison, Geneva Harrison and Danielle Pomeroy; brother, Gilbert Torres, Union City, Calif.; sisters, Claudine Roybal (Charles) of Salida and Alice (Milo) Vigil of Colorado Springs; stepsons, Mike, Joey, Albert and Kenny of Colorado and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Chester A. ‘Chet’ Rand
Chester A. “Chet” Rand, 85, long-time Salida resident, died July 26, 2003, at Anna Marie’s Personal Care Boarding Home.
He was born Sept. 21, 1917, in Richland, Kan., to Frank and Belle (Nutt) Rand.
Mr. Rand moved to Salida when he was 14 years old and started working at service stations. He eventually owned and operated his own station in Salida and owned and operated the Continental Bulk Agency, in Salida. Many locals will remember him servicing their vehicles.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Leadville, Salida Elks Lodge No. 808, the Shriners, the Consistory in Pueblo and the United Methodist Church.
He was an avid Harley Davidson rider and was a member of the Harley Owners Group.
Mr. Rand was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Betty Rand.
He is survived by his sons, Gene Rand, Arvada, Larry (Lynette) Rand, Cañon City and Ron (Penny) Rand, Williamsburg; sister, Melba Todd, Wellsville, Kan.; special friend, Louise Hyder, Salida; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. today at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church.
