Georgia E. Allinger
Georgia E. Allinger, 66, died May 7, 2004, at St. Anthony Hospital in Denver.
She was born on Oct. 22, 1937, in Salida, to Robert and Elizabeth (English) Allinger.
Ms. Allinger was a member of Eastern Star and was the past treasurer of Grace Episcopal Church in Buena Vista.
She enjoyed attending Bible study, traveling and having tea with her friends.
Ms. Allinger was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her sons, Steve (Kay) Allinger, Buena Vista; Mark (Joan) Jones, Salida and Raymond (Becky) Allinger, Salida; daughter, Elizabeth (Dennis) Carpenter, Payton and 10 grandchildren and many cousins.
A memorial service is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Episcopal Church in Buena Vista.
Friends who desire may make memorial contributions to the Grace Episcopal Church through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Theodore Makris
Theodore Makris died May 17, 2004, in Pueblo.
He was born Aug. 22, 1940, in Salida.
Mr. Makris was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Emma Makris and his brother, Steve.
He is survived by his wife, Jan, Pueblo; children, Adam Heflin (Toni), Russellville, Ark.; Patrick Heflin (Rikki), Corpus Christi, Texas; Kyla Heflin (Rhea Hammond), Colorado Springs; grandsons, Chris, Patrick and Zane Heflin; brothers, George Makris (Jolene), Denver and Dannie Makris (Sharon), Woodland Park; sister, Agnes Toews (John), Pueblo and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Makris was a miner for many years and especially loved mining turquoise in Nevada with his father-in-law, Menless Winfield.
He served in the United States Army in Vietnam.
He graduated from Adams State College with a bachelor’s degree in 1973 and master’s degree in 1975.
Mr. Makris was a long-time coach and acclaimed world-champion kayaker.
He loved his country, loved to dance and especially loved his cats.
Mr. Makris requested his remains be cremated. A memorial service honoring his life and his service to the country will be held at 9:30 a.m. May 27 at Imperial Funeral Home Chapel.

Max A. Shake
Max A. Shake, 81, Buena Vista, died May 18, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Shake was born Aug. 19, 1922, in Camp Point, Ill., to Marvin A. and Nora A. (Asher) Shake.
He moved to Salida in 1940 and married Fay Crymble April 24, 1943.
Mr. Shake was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1166 in Buena Vista. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He also was a member of Local No. 9 Operating Engineers Union for 57 years.
Mr. Shake is survived by his wife, Fay Shake; sons, Donald and Daniel “Boone” Shake; grandsons, Shawn, James and Donnie; granddaughter, Tomi and great-granddaughter, Sadie.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at VFW Post No. 1166 in Buena Vista.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Loretta A. Hren
Loretta A Hren, 89, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died May 28, 2004, in Colorado Springs.
She was born Feb. 17, 1915, in Leadville (Graham Park), to Josephine (Shanahan) and Patrick Sheehan. She married Louis Albert Hren who preceded her in death in 1948. Her son Louis also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hren lived in Leadville until 1962, when she moved to Salida. In 1977, after 22 years of service, she retired from Mountain Bell management as an assistant chief operator.
During that time she made many lifetime friendships. In 1991 she moved to Colorado Springs to live with her daughter, Mary Joan Bruce, who survives.
Mrs. Hren was a member of Divine Redeemer Catholic Church.
She is also survived by grandsons, James (Jim) F. Bruce, Jr., Pueblo and Neil C. Bruce, Woodland Park; great-granddaughters, Samantha Bruce and Hayden Bruce, both of Pueblo and great-grandsons, Benjamin Bruce of Fort Collins and Matthew Bruce of Boulder.
Loretta was an inspiration to people who knew her, particularly her family. She will be remembered for her wit, enthusiasm, strength and courage.
Services will be held at the Church of the Annunciation of the Catholic Community of Leadville, in Leadville, at 11 a.m. June 2, 2004. Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery will immediately follow the services.

Norma Kathryn Daughety
Norma Kathryn “Kay” Daughety, 67 Buena Vista, died at her home May 28 2004.
Daughety was born March 19, 1937, to Manson and Marie Cadle in Springfield, Mo. She grew up in El Reno, Okla.
She married Leonard Daughety Feb. 14, 1956, in El Reno, Okla. and moved to the Climax/Leadville area with her husband in 1956. In late 1957 they moved and remained in Buena Vista.
Mrs. Daughety was an avid bridge player achieving the “Life Master” level, and was a current member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
During her many years in Buena Vista, she was a Delphi member, Boy Scout leader, long time 4-H leader, Republican Party member and an employee of public health.
She treasured the many friendships she made in Buena Vista and surrounding communities.
Mrs. Daughety is survived by her husband, son Rich Daughety, Buena Vista; daughter Susan (Kevin) Briggs, Westminster; grandson, Andrew Briggs and granddaughter, Alexandra Briggs, both of Westminster.
She was proceeded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. June 3 at Runyan Mortuary. Interment
will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Leslie E. "Dancer" Walker
Leslie E. Walker
Leslie E. “Dancer” Walker, 59, Pueblo West, formerly of Salida, died Sunday May 30, 2004, in Red River, N.M.
Mr. Walker was born Dec. 11, 1944, in Salida to Harvey and Esther (Culp) Walker. He served in the U.S. Marines during Vietnam.
He was an engineer with the Rio Grande/Union Pacific Railroad for more than 30 years. His interests included riding motorcycles, building computers, photography and leather making.
He is survived by his daughters Sandy (Justin) Dunn, Grand Junction; LeAnn (Ken) Short, Grand Junction and Chelly (Bryan) Reay of Spanish Fork, Utah; brother, Robert (Vicki) Walker of Centennial; sister Barbara (Mike) Quick, Salida; grandchildren, Danyale and Ryan Lewis; Dillon, Zach and Katie Short; Chabrise Reay and great grandchild Kayce Richardson.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Friday until the time of the service at 1 p.m. at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Ramona Surface
Ramona Surface, long time Salida resident, died June 2, 2004, in Colorado Springs.
She was a resident of Colonial Columns Nursing Home since 1982 after suffering a stroke in 1981.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold “Hap” Surface in November 1975.
Mrs. Surface is survived by her sons Chuck (Joan) Surface, Salida; Mike (Linda) Aichele, Salida; daughters Carli Clapper, south Texas and Kristi (Isaiah) White, Colorado Springs. She had 10 grandchildren and eight great grand children.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Upper Room Church of God, 12th and G streets in Salida.

Dominic S. Porco
Dominic S. Porco, 86, a lifetime Salida resident, died June 3, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Porco was born Dec. 16, 1917, in Salida to Ralph and Pasquilana (Valde) Porco. He retired from the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad after more than 20 years. He also at one time worked for M&S Quarry in Cañon City and M.G.T. Pipeline.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mr. Porco loved ranching, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his sons Ralph (Flora) Porco of Salida, Lanny (Bonnie) Porco of Salida and Donny (Julie) Porco of Salida; daughter Mary Jane Cicero of Salida, sister Viola Alloy of Salida; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Josephine Porco, son Nicki Porco, daughter Charlene Finney, brothers Nick and Joe Porco, sisters Susie DeBuano, Frances Bayuk, Fannie Porco, Jane Sterle and Rosie Barone.
Visitation will be held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Richard E. Williams
Graveside funeral services for Richard E. Williams were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery.
Rev. Rick Casteel officiated. Pallbearers were Jeff and Chris Williams, Bruce, Kyle, Graham and Cameron Davidson.
At the Cemetery, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion held flag presentation ceremonies.
Arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Robert R. Marshall
Mass of Christian Burial for Robert R. Marshall was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Fr. Henry Grodecki, C.M., was the Celebrant. Musicians were DiAnn Bourget and Jennifer Hammond. Musical selections were “Amazing Grace,” “Just A Closer Walk With Thee,” “Pan de Vida” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.”
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were Kathy Skelton, Harold Coffman, Jerry Arellano, Paco Giron, Art Post, Jim Cabella, Dick Cabella, Mary Cabella, Alan Sulzenfuss, Ed Boston, JoAnn Boston, John Gallagher, Tal Ruttem and Dawn Wassel.
Interment
was at Fairview Cemetery. At the Cemetery, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion held their flag presentation ceremonies.
