Beverly J. Nygaard
Beverly J. Nygaard, 75, Nathrop, died June 11, 2004, at her residence.
Mrs. Nygaard was born July 1, 1928, in Neilsville, Minn., to Peter and Dorothy (Olsen) Kunkel. She married Vernon Nygaard July 16, 1946, in Neilsville.
Her residences included Moorhead, Minn. and Denver. Mr. and Mrs. Nygaard spent the winter in Sun City, Ariz.
She loved the mountains, architecture, gardening and spending time with her family.
She was a member of the Evening Light Fellowship Church in Phoenix, Ariz.
Mrs. Nygaard is survived by her husband, Vernon Nygaard, Nathrop; sons Jeffrey (Chris) Nygaard of Atlanta, Ga. and Wesley V. (Diane) Nygaard of Anthem, Ariz.; grandchildren Susan, Pamela, Jessica, Zach and Alyson; great grandchildren Ethan and Preston.
A memorial gathering will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Nygaard residence, 12000 CR 263 in Nathrop.
Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Henrietta Hosford
Henrietta Hosford, a former long-time Salida resident, died June 6, 2004, in Dallas, Texas.
She was born in Chicago, Ill., Sept. 20, 1912.
A brief celebration of her life was held in Dallas June 9, 2004.
Mrs. Hosford is survived by daughters Irene (Robert McLaughlin) Hosford, Dallas and Robin (Drew) Tommers Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
She was predeceased in 1989 by her husband, Raymond Oliver Hosford. The couple lived in Salida 18 years, before moving to Dallas to be near their daughter Irene.
Mrs. Hosford was a quiet woman of faith, had an enchanting smile and was a loving wife and mother. She was a watercolorist, talented teacher and a gentle soul.
She and her husband were active in the Salida-Aspen Music Festival and taught numerous local artists. Mrs. Hosford touched many lives.
People who want, can make memorial contributions in her name to the CREW Foundation, (an organization that funds programs to help women and girls), 1201 Wakarusa Drive, Suite C3, Lawrence, KS 66049, or a charity of their choice.

Rev. Dr. Robert W. Musil
The Rev. Dr. Robert W. Musil, 74, retired United Methodist pastor, died June 12, 2004, in Denver as a result of fall.
He served as pastor of Salida United Methodist Church from 1983-1988 He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, daughters Rebecca Thompson of Salida, Karen Christensen of Denver and Sarah Burris of Durango; three grandchildren and his sister, Grace Swanson of Durango.
The memorial service will be held at University Park United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. June 26, 2004.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Peace with Justice Committee of the Rocky Mountain Conference, 2200 S. University Blvd., Denver, CO 80210 or Iliff School of Theology, 2201 S. University Blvd., Denver, CO 80210.

Mabel G. Ginther
Mabel G. Ginther, 90, former long time Salida resident, died June 11, 2004, at her home in Lakewood.
Mrs. Ginther was born April 17, 1914, in Coulee City, Washington, to William A. and Anna (Andresen) Gehr.
She worked for the United States Postal Service for many years. She enjoyed hiking in the hills around Salida, arrowhead hunting and loved to fish.
Mrs. Ginther was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, Donald B. Ginther; son, Fritz Ginther; daughter, Melba Jean Ginther; brother Bob Gehr and sisters Joi Rau and Melba Walker.
She is survived by her son Donald H. (Van) Ginther, Lakewood; daughters Bobbye Carol (Russell) Beck of Cody, Wyo. and Dorothy (Albert) Ross of Salida; Brother, William Gehr of Boise, Idaho, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood.
Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Virginia Wallace
Virginia Wallace, age 79, long time Poncha Springs resident, died June 14, 2004, at her residence in Poncha Springs.
Mrs. Wallace was born December 15, 1924, in St. Louis, Missouri to Gustav and Lenor Myers.
Mrs. Wallace and her husband moved to Poncha Spring in 1963. She was an accomplished horticultural hobbyist and an artist.
Her favorite saying was, “You can’t do it if you don’t try.”
Mrs. Wallace is survived by her husband, Lloyd Wallace of Poncha Springs; son Terry Wallace of St. Louis, Mo. and daughter Leslie Bushaw of Tulsa, Okla; grandchildren Jeff Dominguez, Vance Wallace, Jennifer Wallace, Sean Bushaw and Owen Bushaw.
Memorial services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Yolanda Davidoff Spino
Yolanda Davidoff Spino, 91, a life long resident of Salida, died June 17, 2004, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Spino was born Dec. 1, 1912, in Salida to Anthony and Amelia (Peluso) Alloy. She attended Sand Park School while growing up in Salida.
She and her husband, Albert Spino, at various times built and operated five motels in Salida.
She loved cooking and gardening. Mrs. Spino was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She is survived by her sons David Davidoff of Salida and Peter (Kathleen) Davidoff of Steamboat Springs; half brother Louie Kostelic of Leadville and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Peter Davidoff and Albert Spino; daughter, Kathleen Argys and many brothers and sisters.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Helping Hands through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Glen (Roger) McCoy
Glen (Roger) McCoy, Cotopaxi, died of a heart attack June 12, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. McCoy was born Jan. 11, 1942, in Frazesburg, Ohio. He was a high school graduate and served four years in the Army.
He is survived by three children, Roger McCoy of Mentor, Ohio; Loretta Tators of Akron, Ohio and Travis McCoy of Caleo, Mo.
He has one grandson, Nicola Anthony Tators of Akron, Ohio and four sisters, Betty Leslie of Fla.; Sandra Frutig and Wendy Eldridge of Ind., and Pat Cunico of Cotopaxi.
A memorial service will be held at The Upper Room Church of God, Salida, at 3 p.m. June, 22, 2004. Pastor Chuck Surface will be the officiant.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Travis McCoy Education fund at Pueblo Bank and Trust, Salida.

Trinidad Herrera
Funeral services for Trinidad Herrera, 82, were held in Nambe, N.M., May 27, 2004.
Burial was at national cemetery in Santa Fé, N.M. Mr. Herrera was buried with full military honors. He died May 23, 2004, in Colorado Springs.
Mr. Herrera is survived by his daughter, Sandra (David) Lucero; daughter-in-law Carol Herrera; grandchildren Rodrick Lucero, DeDe (Art) DeLeo, Dave (Caryn) Lucero, Scott Lucero, Helena (Daniel) Branson, Jesse Herrera, Donicia Herrera, Daniel Trinidad Herrera; six great grandchildren; Stepson Juan (Lupe) Benevidez; stepdaughter, Terry (Brad) Jain and stepgranddaughter Liza Benevidez.
Mr. Herrera had numerous relatives and acquaintances in the Salida area. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marcelita; second wife, Dolores and son, Judge Steve Herrera.
Mr. Herrera lived in the Salida area from 1945-64. While living in the area he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was a carpenter and a 50-year member of the Carpenters’ Union.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Judge Steve Herrera scholarship fund at the New Mexico Community Foundation, 343 E. Alameda, Santa Fé, NM, 87501.

Zita Ruhkamp Burnett
Zita Ruhkamp Burnett died June 16, 2004 at the home of her daughter, Marilyn Skolich, in Redondo Beach, Calif., following a battle with congestive heart failure,
She was a long-time resident of Salida, Anchorage, Alaska and Redondo Beach, Calif. She was 93 years old.
Mrs. Burnett was born in Hanover, Kan. on July 15, 1911 to Joseph and Marie Ruhkamp. The family moved to Salida for her mother’s health.
On March 30, 1937 she married Louis John Costello of Salida. Louis passed away on June 30, 1945 of a perforated stomach ulcer, leaving her with a 5-year-old daughter and a newborn baby girl.
On Sept. 12, 1956, Zita married Earl I. Burnett, a D&RGW machinist and long-time resident of Salida.
Earl died on April 23, 1973 of cancer.
Mrs. Burnett was active in St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was president of the Altar and Rosary Society and made vestments for the priests, as well as altar clothes for the church on many occasions.
Zita also volunteered at St. Joseph School, helping the students with reading and serving lunch.
Mrs. Burnett was such an accomplished seamstress and needleworker that she was known as “the lady with the golden hands.”
When her youngest daughter, LouAnne, was in high school, she began her own dressmaking and alterations business.
Because of failing vision caused by a detached retina and macular degeneration, Mrs. Burnett moved to California in 1985 to live with her daughters.
Between 1985 and 1997, Zita traveled to and briefly lived in Bakersfield and Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Greenville, S.C. and Anchorage, Alaska, where she lived with her youngest daughter, Lou Anne Curley.
In 1997, Zita moved back to Redondo Beach, to live with her eldest daughter, Marilyn Skolich, until her death.
Zita was preceded in death by her sister, Cecilia Nylander of Denver and her brother, Alphonse Ruhkamp of Salida.
She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Skolich of Redondo Beach and LouAnne Curley of Anchorage and five grandchildren, Lisa and John Skolich of Redondo Beach, Cristin (Curley) Cota, Patrick and Colleen Curley, all of Anchorage.
A rosary was held at 7 p.m. Sunday, at McCormick Mortuary, Redondo Beach.
There will be a celebration of her life at St. Lawrence Martyr Church in Redondo Beach at 10 a.m. today.
Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery and will be accompanied by a luncheon at St. Joseph Great Hall.

Zita R. Burnett
Mass of the Christian Burial for Zita R. Burnett was held at 10:30 a.m. June 24, 2004, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Fr. Henry Grodecki, C.M. was the celebrant.
Musicians were DiAnn Bourget and Colleen Curley. Musical selections were “Prayer Of St. Francis,” “Amazing Grace,” “They Will Know We Are Christians,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Shepherd Me O’ Lord,” “You Are Mine,” “On Eagles’ Wings” and “Blessed Be The Lord.”
Pallbearers were Mike Curley, Pat Curley, Joe Nylander, Jeff Nylander and John Skolich.
Interment was at Fairview Cemetery.
Arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

James Douglas Adams, Sr.
James Douglas Adams, Sr., 70, died June 18, 2004, surrounded by family and friends at his home.
James (Jay) was born Dec. 6, 1933, in Altus, Okla., the son of William R. and Vivian M. Adams. His childhood was spent in Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle where his parents pioneered numerous churches.
He played guitar and piano and once cut a record with Billy Walker and the Melody Cowboys. They toured, jammed with Roy Orbison and opened for Porter Wagner.
Mr. Adams loved to sing and knew the words to almost any song.
He loved to dance, gather with friends and family, tell jokes, golf, fish, read, work in his yard and could fix anything.
He moved to Denver in 1969 where he began his 35-year career in insurance. He worked for Farmer’s Insurance and later opened his own agency.
He married Betty Silva June 25, 1977. They moved to Flagstaff, Ariz., in 1985 where he served on the city council. They retired to Poncha Springs in 1996.
Because of a love for politics, he served on the planning and zoning committee. Because he wasn’t one to sit idly, he came out of retirement to work at the Salida Apartments.
He and his wife became managers in 1998. They were nominated managers of the year in 2002 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for their hard work and dedication.
Mr. Adams is survived by his wife, Betty; son James Jr. (Jodie) Athens, Texas; daughter Sherry Turner, Salida; daughter Vickie (Ricky) Swift, Odessa, Texas; four grandsons, Stephen and Seth Turner, Salida; Jason Scott and James Todd, Athens; four granddaughters Breanna Turner, Salida; Rachel, Melissa and April Swift Odessa; six great grandchildren, two bothers and one sister of Odessa, numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Services are tentatively set for June 25, 2004, at a time to be determined, at First Lutheran Church, 1237 F St., Salida.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Angel of Shavano Hospice c/o Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home, 203 E. Sackett, Salida, CO 81201.
The family thanks the “Angels” of Shavano Hospice for their work, dedication, support and true compassion and Dr. Ingeborg Sacksen for her professionalism and care.
Thanks also to Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home personnel for their kindness and sympathy.

Funeral services for James Douglas Adams, Sr. will be held at 11 a.m. June 25, 2004, at the First Lutheran Church, 1237 F. St. in Salida, Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Virginia Wallace
Memorial services for Virginia Wallace were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Rev. Rick Gregory officiated the service Brenda Heckel was the vocalist and sang “On Eagles’ Wings.” Leslie Bushaw read two poems
Arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Yolanda Davidoff Spino
Mass of Christian Burial for Yolanda Davidoff Spino was held at 10:30 a.m. June 21, 2004, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Fr. Henry Grodecki, C.M. was the celebrant. Musicians were DiAnn Bourget and Jeanne Kostelic. Musical selections were “All Creatures Of Our God And King,” “Ave Maria,” “Panis Angelicus” and “You Are Mine.”
Pallbearers were Ken Baker, Frank Marminello, Rick Davidoff, Ralph Coscarella, William Mehos, Jeff Taylor and Frank Cicerelli.
Honorary pallbearers were Vic Veltri, Bill Archuletta, John Bayuk and George Argys. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery.
Arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Elvena Calvano Trujillo
Elvena Calvano Trujillo, 91 Jerome, died June 28, 2004, at St. Benedict Family Medical Center Long Term Care Unit.
She was born July 18, 1912, in Salida to Louis and Maria DeBono Calvano.
Mrs. Trujillo attended school in Salida, where she met and later married Selvy Trujillo Nov. 30, 1930. They had four children, Tina (Ted) Prappas of Twin Falls, Idaho; Rita (Joe) Arellano, Bill (Margaret) Trujillo, both of Jerome and Selvy (Downa) Trujillo of Pocatello, Idaho.
She and Selvy moved to Jerome in 1948 where Selvy worked construction while she worked for St. Benedict’s as cleaning supervisor for 22 years.
The couple loved fishing and camping at North Fork of the Wood River where they had family reunions. She loved spending time with her family and friends; she enjoyed her life and everyone she met.
She was a member of the First Church of God in Jerome.
Mrs. Trujillo is survived by her four children; one brother, Tony Calvano of Salida; two sisters, Pauline (Henry) Fear, Salida and Rosie (the late John)
Fear, Salida.
She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Selvy, Dec. 11, 1981; her parents, Louis and Maria Calvano; brothers Frank and John Calvano and sisters Susie Mastes, Florina Calvano and Floria Calvano.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m., July 1, 2004, at Hove-Robertson Funeral Chapel in Jerome with Pastor Karen Page officiating.
Visitation was June 30 at the Hove-Robertson Funeral Chapel and July 1 before services.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sugden and the nursing staff of St. Benedict Long Term Care Unit for their love care of their mom.
