Walter Kinderknecht
Walter A. Kinderknecht, 78 of Kimball, died Sunday, September 21, 2003 at his home. A rosary service was held on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at the Cantrell Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial was planned at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 25, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Kimball with Father Robert Karnish officiating. Burial with military honors provided by VFW Post #2243 of Kimball was to follow at the Kimball Cemetery. Friends were able to call at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 24 from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Memorial gifts may be made to the Veterans Hospital of Cheyenne, Wyo.
Mr. Kinderknecht was born on a farm north of Ellis, Kan. on October 25, 1924 to Jacob and Otillia (Bittel) Kinderknecht, the fifth of their twelve children. He moved to Kimball in 1954. He worked for various oil field contractors before retiring about 10 years ago.
He married Edith Evelyn Kent on October 18, 1954 in Scottsbluff. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed collecting antiques.
Mr. Kinderknecht is survived by two sons, Ross and his wife Judy Kent of Douglas Wyo., Dale and his wife Teresa Kent of Midland Texas; three brothers, Ralph, Allen and Victor Kinderknecht; and two sisters, Ione Dinkel of Kansas and Beatina Weber of Great Bend Kan. Seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his wife Edith on February 11, 1994; his parents; a daughter Evelyn Birdwell; five brothers and one sister.
Helen Irene Rains
Helen Irene Rains, 82 of Kimball died Monday, September 22, 2003 at Kimball Health Services. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 26, 2003 at the Oak Street Baptist Church of Kimball with Pastor Brian Kimzey officiating. Burial will be in the Kimball Cemetery. Friends who wish may call at the Cantrell Funeral Home on Thursday, September 25, 2003 from 1 PM to 8 PM. Memorials may be made to the Oak Street Baptist Church.
Mrs. Rains was born on May 22, 1921 in Chillicothe, Mo. to John and Alice (Salisbury) Boone. She married John Junior Rains on June 28, 1942 in Kansas City, Kan. They moved to Independence, Mo. and then came to Kimball in 1954.
Helen was a charter member of Kimball Oak Street Baptist Church and served in almost every capacity for her church. She enjoyed sewing and gardening, especially canning produce for use by her family.
Mrs. Rains is survived by one son, Larry and his wife Betty Rains of Ringwood, Okla., two daughters Betty and her husband Richard Elliott of Kimball, and Joyce and her husband Buddy Biberos of Kimball. Two brothers: Harry Boone of Independence, Mo. and John Boone of Hemet, Calif.; two sisters: Viola Marrioti and Opal Pope both of California; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband John on June 28, 2003, her parents, and two siblings.
Earl L. Baker
Earl Leroy Baker, 77 of Kimball, died on Wednesday September 10, 2003 at his home. A Memorial Service was held Monday September 15, 2003 at the Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Roger Gillming officiated. A private inurnment took place in the Kimball Cemetery. There was no visitation as cremation had taken place. If friends wish, memorial gifts may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church or the Kimball County Manor. Cantrell Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Earl was born July 4, 1926 in Trinidad, Colo. to Edward and Lucy (Holmes) Baker. He attended school at Trinidad where he went to junior college, graduating with many who served in the armed forces. He worked in a defense plant during World War II. Earl, along with his brother Kale and wife Edith, ran a guest ranch at Jack Creek in the mountains of North Park, Jackson, Colo.
After receiving a degree from the Greeley State Teachers College, he taught grade school at Rand, Colo. and that is where he met Alice Louise Fondell of Minnesota, who also was a teacher. They were married on August 14, 1953. They traveled all over Colorado and resided in Westminster, Colo. where they both taught. Earl taught Industrial Arts, as well as Jr. High math, later working with students in Distributive Education.
Earl and Alice adopted their children Randy and Reba and spent vacations and summers camping and traveling. They moved to Kimball in 1974 where Earl became the administrator of the Kimball County Manor and Park Terrace. They also owned and operated Mobile Village Trailer Park.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Lions Club, and Lodgepole Valley Good Sam’s camping club. Earl and Alice enjoyed spending their winters and part of the summers in resorts in the southwest.
He is survived by his wife Alice Baker, a son Randy Baker of Sidney, and a daughter Reba Baker of Chadron; grandchildren Billy Joe Masoner, Brandon Earl Masoner, Latricia Masoner, Jeremy Edward Masoner, Jennifer Baker, and Joshua Baker; a niece Sharon Oddsonl one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Kale Baker.
Richard LeMay
Richard Joseph LeMay, 63, of Arizona City, Airz. and formerly of Kimball, died on Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at home. Memorial services were Sept. 13 at Simes Mortuary in Casa Grande, Ariz.
Richard was born on June 13, 1940 in Norfolk, Nebraska. He spent his early childhood years in Kimball. The family later moved to El Segundo, Calif. where Richard attended high school. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958- until 1961. After his discharge he returned to Kimball.
He married Helen Wright on Aug. 22, 1964 in Denver, Colo. He worked various construction jobs in North Dakota and Montana. He moved to Colorado in 1968 where he went to work of Coors Brewing Company in Golden. In 1977 Richard began his own shoe repair business with stores in Wyoming and Colorado. In 1995 he purchased Boot Hill Shoe Repair in Casa Grande, Ariz. where he was working at the time of his death.
Richard enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and boating with his family. He was a man that loved to invent new things and could fix almost anything. He will be greatly missed by all his family.
Richard is survived by his wife Helen LeMay of Arizona City; three sons, Boden LeMay and wife Kathy of Shalimar, Fla., Brit LeMay of Boise, Idaho, Bart LeMay and wife Kellie of Leicester, N.C.; five grandchildren, Curtis, Katie, Kendra, Brennan and Keegan; mother and father, Florence and Joseph LeMay of Kimball; three sisters, Deloris and husband Dick Eberl of Grand Island, Neb., Shirley McAhren of Hawthorne, Calif., Nancy and husband Brad Walls of Kimball; one brother Larry and wife Sondra LeMay of Gunnison, Colo.; and many other extended family members.
Fred Constable
Fred Constable, 97 of Pine Bluffs, Wyo. died Friday, September 12, 2003 at the Life Care Center in Cheyenne. Funeral Services were held Monday, September 15, 2003 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball. Pastor Les Judge of Grace Lutheran Church in Pine Bluffs officiated. Burial followed in the Pine Bluffs Cemetery. Friends called at the funeral home on Sunday. Memorial gifts may be made to either Life Center of Cheyenne or to Grace Lutheran Church.
He was born August 18, 1906 at Vine Creek, Kan., a son of Forrest D. and Marie (Humpert) Constable. He attended Acme, Kan. country school and moved with his family to Colorado in 1919. They had also lived in Nebraska.
He married Etta May Sisson on November 15, 1930 in Greeley, Colo. They made their home near Seven Mile Point southwest of Pine Bluffs. Fred drove the school bus for two years.
In 1935 they moved to the “old Soddy” where they farmed on the Anderson place in Kimball County, and in 1947 moved to the Rock Hill Ranch where they made their home until 1985 when they retired and moved to Pine Bluffs. Etta May died on Christmas Eve 1988.
Fred was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing trips with “the Krueger boys” and other friends and family. He enjoyed old cowboy music, especially “The Cattle Call,” and looked forward to his daughters and family singing and playing music. He loved to square dance and enjoyed visiting with any of the neighbors and friends that stopped by.
In 1998 he suffered a stroke and lived at the Kimball Manor, Whispering Pines, and Sierra Hills homes and was currently residing at the Life Care Center.
He is survived by his four children, Claude and wife Delores Constable of Pine Bluffs; Vernetta and husband Franklin Woodman of Barrackville, W. Va.; Alice and husband Tommie Swaim of Baytown, Texas, and Betty and husband Ned Stroup of Gillette, Wyo.
Linda Sue Brown
Linda Sue Brown, 58, of Banner County died Sunday, September 14, 2003 at her home. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 18, 2003, 10:00 A.M. at Calvary Memorial Evangelical Free Church with Dr. Charles Bonds and Pastor Jonathan Seng officiating. Interment
will be in High Butte Cemetery. Friends were able to call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff Wednesday. The casket was closed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dollars for Scholars Computer Lab, Prairie Haven Hospice, or to the Panhandle Cancer Fund.
She was born October 30, 1944 at Scottsbluff to Carl H. and Marjorie Ann (Friede) Brown. She was baptized in Gering Methodist Church April 10, 1949. She graduated from Gering High School in 1963. She worked as a telephone operator in Bridgeport until she married Terry Brown June 20, 1965. They lived in Manhattan, Kan. until Terry was sent to Viet Nam in October of 1965. She moved to Scottsbluff and worked at the Eagle CafÈ until February 1966, when Terry was discharged from the Army. They have farmed and ranched since then.
Linda was a leader for the Silver Spurs 4-H Club, a member of Wrights Club, the Banner County Historical Society which sponsors Unit 13 SORE Program teaching Nebraska history to 4th graders, was an active parent in many Banner County High School activities for over 30 years, secretary of the Morrill County High School Rodeo and was a member of the Nebraska State High School Rodeo Association. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and canning, being known for her outstanding jellies.
Besides her own children, she helped raise a foster son, John Canada, and three nephews.
She is survived by her husband, Terry Brown of Harrisburg; daughters, Marjorie Hope Jordan of Harrisburg; Carla Jo Brown of Hawk Springs, Wyo.; Paula Dawn Brown of Dalton; daughter and son-in-law Peggy Marie and Jay Peterson of Taylor; mother Marjorie Ann (Friede) Burnette of Scottsbluff; grandchildren, Dalton and Savannah Jordan of Harrisburg; Hellen Louise Hein of Hawk Springs, Wyo.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joan and Stan Cross of Tacoma, Wash.; Julie and Roger Rogers of Richfield Wisc.; sister-in-law Jackie Kuxhausen of Scottsbluff, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her father and step-mother, Carl and Pauline Brown, stepfather Tom Burnette, foster son John Canada, maternal and paternal grandparents, brothers Harvey and Duane Brown, sister Cindy Brown, and her father and mother-in-law George and Marjorie Brown.
Carl Alden Anderson
Carl Alden Anderson, 85 of Kimball, died September 15, 2003 at Northfield Villa in Gering, Neb. A Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Rejoice Lutheran Church, Gering.
He was known as “Alden.” He was born Feb. 8, 1918, in Kimball County, the first child of Carl August Anderson, an immigrant from Sweden, and Rose (Johnson) Anderson, the daughter of immigrants from Sweden. He grew up in the Kirk and Heath communities of Banner County where his parents farmed. He attended Banner County Schools. He attended a trade school in Denver where he learned welding.
In 1940, Alden met Evelyn Osborn, who grew up in Dalton, Neb. and taught for two years at a rural school in central Banner County. They met through the American Sunday School Union. In Aug. 1941, Alden was drafted into the U.S. Army. During his first furlough, he married Evelyn on December 21, 1941. She spent the next three months with him in southern California before his army unit (Co. D, 19th regiment of the combat Engineers) transferred to the European theater of World War II. He was stationed briefly in Northern Ireland, North Africa, then Tunisia and Sicily, and was in northern Italy when the war ended. He received two purple hearts for combat injuries.
After being discharged in July 1945, they moved to the Twin Tree community in Banner County where they lived until 1982 when they moved to Kimball. He retired in 1991 and they moved to Northfield Villa in Gering. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December 1991. Alden’s wife Evelyn preceded him in death on June 4, 1992.
During 50 years of farming in Banner County, Alden gained the reputation of being a capable and successful farmer, as well as a leader in the community. He served many years on the Banner County School Board and as its chairman when Banner County led the state with the establishment of Nebraska’s first county-wide K-12 school district in 1956. He served on the ASCS county board.
During the 1940s and ‘50s, he served as Superintendent and taught Sunday School at Twin Tree in Banner County. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Camp Rock in Redington. He was a member of the Harrisburg Community Church and involved with its establishment as the first permanent church in Harrisburg. During the late ‘50s Alden became active at First English Lutheran Church in Kimball. After moving to Gering, he joined Rejoice Lutheran Church.
He is survived by three children: Philip (Karen) Anderson of Pocatello, Id.; Jeanne (Byron) Stahla of Plano, Tex.; and Mary Beth (Terral) Smith of Pittsburgh, Penn; his grandchildren, Karl Erik Anderson, Brad Anderson, Jon Stahla, Nancy Moore, and by great-grandchild Alexander Moore; brother, Ralph Anderson of Scottsbluff, sister Ella Mae Cederburg of Kimball County; a foster son, Gary Love of Warrensburg, Mo.; friend, Faye Kelsey of Gering.

Carol Smith
Pine Bluffs, WY-Carol Jane Smith of Pine Bluffs, Wyo. was called to glory on Monday, September 1, 2003. She was 51 years young. Cremation has been held and no services are scheduled at this time. The Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is in charge of arrangements.
She was born November 1, 1951 in Cheyenne, Wyo., a daughter of Clarence and Rosalee (Campbell) Smith. She attended schools in Wyoming. She married Kenneth Vandiver and to that glorious union was born their two children, Cory Lee and Carla Kay.
Her later years were spent in the enjoyment of varied creative fields, including home renovation, remodeling and even reconstruction. On the lighter side, her laughter and smiles lit any room she entered, and the walls in homes near and far are adorned with pictures, plaques and stained glass pieces personally created by Carol, also known as “Mimi” by her grandsons and close friends.
She is survived by her children: Cory Vandiver of Conrad, Mont. and Carla Vandiver Young of Cheyenne, Wyo. Also surviving is her mother, Rosalee Campbell Smith of Pine Bluffs, and four grandsons: Jacob, Jordan, Jeremiah, and Caleb, and a host of other friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her father Clarence Smith.
Wendell Johnson
Wendell J. Johnson, 67 of rural Sidney, Neb. and a lifelong Cheyenne County resident died Tuesday evening, September 2, 2003 at the United Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyo.
A Celebration of Life Service was held Saturday, Sept. 6 in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sterling, Colo. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date.
Visitation was held Friday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the Bethesda Lutheran Home for the physically and mentally handicapped in Watertown, Wis., the National Right To Life, or the Lutherans For Life.
Wendell James Johnson, the son of James C. and Aleata W. (Reineka) Johnson was born October 28, 1935 in Sidney, Neb. He was baptized in the Christian faith on April 6, 1947 at the Methodist Church in Sidney. He grew up on a farm 12 miles south of Potter, Neb. He attended grade school at District 31 before graduating from Sidney High School in 1952. He then farmed for a time with his father.
On October 24, 1954 he was united in marriage to Norma Jean Buhrdorf at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church northeast of Potter. Wendell confirmed his Christian Faith on December 27, 1954 at St. Paul’s. They spent their entire married life farming and ranching in the southern Cheyenne County area. They have made their home 10 miles west and 1 miles south of Lorenzo, Neb. since 1970.
Wendell loved the Lord, loved his family, and loved farming and ranching.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Johnson of Sidney, Neb.; one daughter, Kim and husband Mark McKay of Sidney, Neb.; two sons: Tom Johnson of Sidney, Neb. and Todd Johnson of Sterling, Colo.; one brother, Warren and wife Margaret Johnson of Sidney, Neb.; one sister, Wilma and husband Jack Vencill of Kimball, Neb.; four Grandchildren: Brandon and wife Tanya McKay and their son Lance of Sidney, Neb., Jessica McKay of Littleton, Colo., Holly McKay of Scottsbluff, Neb. and Bryan McKay of Sidney, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gordon.
L. Margaret Hanner
Margaret Hanner, 83 of Bushnell, died on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003 at United Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyo. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Thurs., Sept. 11 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate. Burial will be in the Kimball Cemetery. Visitation was to be at the funeral home on Wed. until 6 p.m. and on Thurs. from 10 a.m. until noon. Memorial gifts may be made to the Bushnell Volunteer Fire Department.
She was born March 24, 1920 in Kimball, a daughter of Peter and Mary (White) Bourlier, and had been a lifelong resident of the area. She was raised on a farm south of Bushnell where she attended the District 22 School. She then attended and graduated from Kimball County High School. She married Donald G. Hanner on February 2, 1946 in Troy, Kan.
Margaret was a nurse’s aid at the Kimball County Hospital for many years. She also cooked for the hospital. She and her husband also ran D and M’s Place in Bushnell. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church of Bushnell, the Crossroads Garden Club and the Yucca Belles.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Margaret Palmer of Holdrege, Neb.; a son, Donald Lee Hanner of Bushnell; a brother Vernon Bourlier and wife Toni of Kimball; sister-in-law Jo Bourlier of Kimball; eight grandchildren, Vonda and Terry McCracken, Wade Palmer, Tonya Palmer, Roxanne and Jim Johnson, Jason and Deana Hanner, Suzanne Miller, Jamey and Jeff Vance, and April Hanner; and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald G. on April 16, 1987, a brother Arthur Lee Bourlier, and a great granddaughter Dakota Dawn Hanner.
LaVerne Dudney
LaVerne Eugene "Dud" Dudney, 74 of Kimball died at his home on Thursday Aug 28, 2003. Funeral Services were held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, Sept 2, 2003 at the Cantrell Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Karnish officiated. Burial was in the Kimball Cemetery. Kimball VFW Post 2243 rendered military honors. Memorial gifts may be directed to either Kimball Health Services Foundation or the Kimball Cemetery Improvement Fund.
He was born Sept 21, 1928 to Belva (Dory) Cole in Omaha. He moved to Kimball in 1942 graduating from Kimball County High School in 1946. After graduation he entered the U. S. Navy. Upon his return from the service he married Eileen Knoblauch on December 22, 1950.
Dud was a member of the Eagles Club for many years. He worked for the City of Kimball Power Plant and also for Tritt Construction. In 1970 he started Dudney Construction and the Elm Court Motel and CafÈ in Kimball. He enjoyed gardening and sports especially Nebraska football.
He is survived by his wife Eileen; daughters, Janae M. Wise of Scottsbluff, Judy A. Hicks of Blair, and June A. Powell of Gering; sons, Richard E. "Dick" Dudney and his wife Sheila of Costa Rica, Gregory "Greg" Dudney of Kimball and his friend, Brenda Voss, and Kirk E. Dudney and his wife Kyomi of Okinawa, Japan. Also surviving is a sister, Bonnie Leake of Cheyenne, Wyo.; 19 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, a daughter Joyce Eileen Wheeler and a grandson Tony Douglas Wheeler.
Helen F. Pile
Helen Frances Pile, 86 of Gering, formerly of Kimball, died Wednesday August 27, 2003 at Regional West Medical Center. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, Sept 2, 2003 at the Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball. Elder Randy Webb officiated. Visitation was Monday September 1 at the funeral home. Burial was in the Kimball Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Foster Grandparents Program.
She was born November 7, 1916 in Clay County Illinois to Less and Nora (Mason) Hayes. She and Oscar Pile were married on August 28, 1946 at Champaign Illinois. They moved to Banner County and settled 16 miles north of Kimball to farm. After Oscar's death on August 28, 1975, Helen moved into Kimball. She later moved to the Northfield Villa in Gering.
Helen was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church for many years. She was very active with the Foster Grandparents program in Kimball. She enjoyed doing handiwork and canning. Her family and neighbors remember her as an excellent cook. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son William and wife Lila Pile of Gurley; her daughter Janice and husband Richard Fresorger of Riverton, Wyo.; two brothers James L. Hayes of Farina, Ill. and John E. Hayes of Somanauk, Ill., as well as her son-in-law John R. Linn of Gering; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, daughter Nora Linn, and brothers Glen and Herbert, and a sister Mildred Pile preceded her in death.
Karen Madden
Karen Louise Madden 62 of Dix, Neb., died August 18, 2003, after a long battle with cancer. A Vigil Service was Thursday and a Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Robert Karnish as celebrant. Burial was in the Kimball Cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made to a memorial fund in Karen's name to be designated later by the family. Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is in charge of arrangements.
She was born October 11, 1940 in Sidney, Neb. to Francis and Fern (Cortney) Egging. She was a life long resident of the area.
She attended St. Patrick's School until 7th Grade and graduated from Potter High School. She and Joe Madden were married in 1959 in Sidney. Karen worked for George Risk Industries for the past 18 years. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and the Rosary Altar Society; she was a past member of the Potter-Dix School Board. Karen loved her garden and flowers.
Karen had a genuine giving spirit. Despite the restrictions of her cancer that was diagnosed when she was 40 years old, she was determined to live her life to the fullest.
She is survived by her three sons, Brian and wife Lucy Madden of Springtown, TX; Shane Madden of Ft. Morgan, CO; Shaun and wife Jiao Madden of Omaha. Her six daughters, Pam and husband Gary Haack of Dix; Jennifer and husband Clint VonKrosigk of Riverton, WY; Julie and husband Neil Bokowski of North Platte; Mitzi and husband Arjan Kraan of Hull, MA; Amy and husband Todd Kinney of Bozeman, MT; and Jodi and husband Scott Finkel of Doyleston, PA, as well as 21 grandchildren.
Also surviving are her four sisters, Lucille and husband Don Schmidt of Livermore, CO; Colleen and husband Bob Governski of San Diego, CA; Teri de Sylva and Janet Musil both of LaPorte, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson Zachary.
Doris Kehn
Doris E. Kehn, 86, of Melbeta, Neb. and formerly of Banner County, Neb. died August 21, 2003 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb.
A funeral was Aug. 25 at Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Dale Brown and Pastor Carl Laws officiating. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery at Gering, Neb. Memorials have been established to the Salem Congregational Church, the Banner County Museum in Harrisburg, and the Minatare-Melbeta Rescue Unit.
She was born February 26, 1917 in Banner County to Lee and Matilda (Johnson) Cashler. She attended a rural elementary school and graduated from Banner County High School in Harrisburg with the Class of 1934. She was united in marriage to Harold Kehn on January 13, 1936 at Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff. They had two children, Larry and Gayle. The family lived on their farm in Banner County until the fall of 1949, when they moved to Melbeta for school purposes, but continued to operate the farm in Banner County.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, and most of all, spending time with her family and friends. She touched many with her caring and unselfish love. After the death of her husband in 1986, she lived alone in her home in Melbeta. She was a member of Salem Congregational Church, the Banner County Historical Society, and several area clubs.
She is survived by son Larry Kehn of Wheat Ridge, Colorado; daughter Gayle Davis of Scottsbluff; grandchildren Wendy and her husband Mike Hoeffner, Laurie and her husband Bill Cooper, Marcie and her husband Jim Manschot, David and his wife Barbara Kehn, and Rachel Davis all of the Denver area; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Wayne and Betty Cashler of Harrisburg; sister Evelyn Hall of Melbeta; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents, husband, and sister Elaine Schmick preceded her in death.

Paul Wolff
Paul T. Wolff, 75 of Kimball died on Saturday, August 23, 2003 peacefully at his home after a prolonged illness. Mass of Christian Burial was August 26 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kimball. The Rev. Robert Karnish will be celebrant. Burial was in the Kimball Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made in Paul's name to Prairie Haven Hospice. The Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is in charge of arrangements.
Paul was born October 5, 1927, in West Point to Leo and Mayme (Schlautman) Wolff. He graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Sidney in 1945. Paul was sergeant in the Nebraska National Guard. Paul and Ardene Clausen were united in marriage on January 30, 1952 in West Point.
Paul worked for Unocal Pipeline for 33 years before retiring in 1986. While working for Unocal they lived in the Brush CO and Kimball areas moving to Kimball in 1991. Paul was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Eagles.
Paul enjoyed gardening, wood working, and being of assistance to his family, church and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ardene Wolff; son David and wife Helena Wolff of Sitka, Alaska; daughter Peg Wolff of Scottsbluff; one granddaughter Lacey Wolff of Sitka, Alaska; brother Leo and wife Nancy Wolff of Sidney; sisters Colette and husband Larry Schmitt of Sidney; and Mary Ann and husband Wayne Lukassen of Kimball; Aunt Margaret Kreikemeir of West Point, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
Patrick Leach
The son of Delbert "Del" and Sally Leach, of Kimball, died in September 2002. Leach had been hiking in the Pike National Forest near Castle Rock, Colo. in September 2002 when they suspect that he fell and was overcome by hypothermia.
His body was not found until May 2003. His parents recovered his cremated remains last week and a family service will in September in Estes Park, Colo.
He as born Jan. 29, 1957 at Mount Clemens Air Force Base in Michigan. His brothers are Delbert of Milford, Penn., Mike of Aurora, Colo., Charlie of Denver, Jerry of Aurora and sister Valerie Elsen of Harrisburg, Neb.
Dolores King
Graveside services for Dolores R. Grote King, age 72, were held at 2:00 p m. on Monday, August 18, 2003 at the Bushnell Cemetery in Bushnell, Nebraska with Reverend Marvin Temme officiating. Dolores died on August 13, 2003 at the Torrington Community Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that memorial donations be directed to either the Nebraska Polio Survivors Association or to the Torrington Our Savior Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home.
She was born on August 12, 1931 in Harrison, Nebraska the daughter of John and Janice (Umphenour) Grote. When she was four years old, her parents bought a farm and moved to Kimball, Nebraska. Dolores graduated 8th grade from District 5 Kimball and then she graduated high school from Kimball County High School in 1948. She married Edward E King, Jr. on September 20, 1950 in Raton, New Mexico. They were divorced in August of 1977, but were blessed with a daughter Janice in 1951 and a son, Michael in 1956, and an adopted son Eddie in 1976.
Dolores worked most of her life, as a secretary, a bookkeeper, wife and mother; including a foster mom for years to 38 children. She retired in 1986 due to poor health. She loved to do any kind of volunteer work that she could do from her home. She felt her greatest treasurers were her family, friends, and above all her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Dolores was proud of, and loved so much her children, grandchildren, brothers, sister, and nieces.
She was a member of the Torrington Our Savior Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod; the VFW Auxiliary Post # 4343, the Caring & Sharing Program; the Nebraska Polio Survivors Association, NAMI; and Lydia Circle.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Steve Brown of Lingle, Wyoming; two sons, Michael King of Granite Falls, N. C., and Edward King and his companion, Dee of Torrington, Wyo., a sister and her husband, Carol and Bill Carr of Lingle, Wyo.; two brothers and their wives, David and Judy Grote of Harvard, Ill., and Richard and Mary Grote of Fitchburg, Mass.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Kendrick of Cheyenne, Wyo., MacKenzie King of Granite Falls, N.C., Destinee King and Nevaeh King both of Torrington, Wyo.; nieces, Laura Kirkpatrick, Carolyn Thompson, Kristen Nordman; great-nieces Kylie, Megan, Brittany, and Kayla, and one great-nephew, Connor. She was preceded in death by her parents, and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Karen Madden
Karen L. Madden 62 of Dix died at her daughters home south of Dix on Monday, August 18, 2003.
A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 21, 2003 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Kimball Cemetery.
Chesley Taylor
Chesley Taylor, 67 of Bushnell died August 1, 2003 at United Medical Center West in Cheyenne. Services were Wed., August 6, 2003 at Calvary United Methodist Church of Bushnell with Reverend Roger Gillming officiating. Burial was in the Bushnell Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Intensive Care Unit of United Medical Center West.
Mr. Taylor was born to Forest and Marjorie (Kelly) Taylor on February 9, 1936 in Lamar South Carolina. He married Kathern Pruett on June 19, 2003 in Bushnell.
He lived in South Carolina most of his life before moving to Bushnell in 2003. He was a self-employed truck driver. He was an accomplished painter and enjoyed gardening.
Chesley is survived by his wife Kathern; sons, Robert, William and Franklin Taylor, daughters Pamela Taylor and Paula Erskine, four step sons, one brother, Carrol Taylor, four sisters; Annie Evans, Mary Taylor, Della Whittle and Rosanna Owens. Fourteen grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two step grandchildren also survive him.
