Kenneth Fritzler
Kenneth C. Fritzler, 87, of Marshfield, Wis. and formerly of Kimball, Neb., died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital.
A memorial service was May 31 at Hansen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. LeRoy Haynes officiating. Interment
of ashes was in Hillside Cemetery.
Kenneth was born Feb. 3, 1916, in Lincoln, Neb., son of Carl and Elizabeth (Weber) Fritzler. He attended high school in Lincoln. In 1939, he received his law degree from the University of Nebraska.
He was married to Doris Eastman, and they were later divorced. On Nov. 10, 1972, he married the former Betty Miller. She preceded him in death on Dec. 28, 1996.
Kenneth practiced law in Kimball, until 1974 when the governor of Nebraska appointed him as a county judge. He served on the bench until retiring on Feb. 1, 1988. He came to the Marshfield area in 1994.
He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Marshfield; a member of the Masonic Lodge; and the Kimball Lions Club. He was an avid sports fan and loyal Nebraska Corn Husker. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in the Rocky Mountains.
Kenneth is survived by children, Janet (Jim) Huntley of Diamond Bar, Calif., and Attorney Kenneth C. (Carol) Fritzler II of Kearney, Neb.; step-daughters, Carolyn (James) Opitz of Marshfield and Peggy Espinoza of Tucson, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorials in Kenneth’s name may be designated to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
Thomas W. Simpson
The father of Sue Gosnell of Dix, Thomas W. Simpson, 77, died May 30, 2003 in Scottsbluff, Neb. Services were Tuesday.
Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. A memorial has been established to Prairie Haven Hospice.
Bertha Huston
Bertha June Huston, 65 of Kimball, died at her home on Sunday May 25, 2003. Memorial Services were May 28 at the Cantrell Funeral Home. Reverend Roger Gillming officiated. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made in care of the family.
She was born January 19, 1938 at Cartersport, N.Y. to Bernie and Ruth (Thompson) Haynes. She was united in marriage to David Huston on April 1, 1961 in Winterhaven, Calif.. She and David lived in New York, Pennsylvania, California, and spent a good number of years in Green River, Wyo. They moved to Kimball in 1989.
She is survived by her husband, a son Michael of Olney Springs, Colo., daughters Kim Tyree and her husband Tim, and Louise Goforth all of Casper Wyo. and mother Ruth Bell of Shinglehouse, Pa. Also seven grandchildren.
Her father and one grandson preceded her in death.
Patti Johnson
Patti Johnson, 46 of rural Potter, Nebraska died Thursday, May 15, 2003 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident northeast of Dix, Neb.
Funeral services will be held at a later date when the medical condition of her daughter, Victoria, who was injured in the accident, improves.
A memorial has been established in Patti's name to the Children's Hospital in Denver, Colorado.

William Howard
William Askins “Bill’’ Howard, 70, of North Platte, Neb. and formerly of Dix, died Thurs., May 15, 2003 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.
Bill was born Sept. 15, 1932 at Pittsburg, Kan. to George Henry and Gertrude Armilda Askins Howard. He grew up in Pittsburg and graduated from Minden Mines High School in Missouri in 1951.
Bill married Juanita Joan Beierle on April 1, 1951 at Bentonville, Ark. They made their home in Wichita, Pittsburg, Junction City, Kan. and Albuquerque, NM, where he worked as a carpenter. In 1961, they move to Dix, Neb. where he worked on the construction of the missile silos around Kimball and later as a foreman in the oilfields.
In 1991, after retirement, they moved to an acreage near North Platte.
Bill is survived by a daughter, Deb Linden of Pleasanton, Neb.; sons Bill and wife Kathy Howard of Riverton, Wyo., Garry and wife Lorri Howard of North Platte and Bob and wife Ranae Howard of Kearney, Neb.; sisters Jahunita and husband Larry Lara of Seattle, Wa., twins Lois and husband Johnny Brown of Gerard, Kan. and Louise Trisler of Liberal, Kan. and Madlene and husband Bill Deacon of Seattle; brother Johnny and wife Mae Howard of Hubert, NC.; 12 grandchildren Jennifer Bauer, Susanne and husband Draper, Lisa Howard, Lori and husband Jeremy Petersen, Brooke Howard, Christa Linden, Brad Howard, Bret Howard, Kevin and wife Rikki Linden, Joe Howard, Broc Howard and Todd Linden; three step-grandchildren Jeff Griffiths, Sarah Griffiths and Lindsey Griffiths; and three great-grandchildren Austin Bauer and Ashlyn Bauer, Tayler Petersen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Juanita on Sept. 3, 1999; and brothers Elmer, Andrew, George Franklin, Melvin and Walter Howard.
A memorial has been established to Great Plains Hospice.
Graveside services were Monday at the Dix Cemetery in Dix with Pastor Virgil Johnson officiating.

Helen Peterson
Helen Peterson, 90 of Sidney, Neb. died early Monday morning, May 19, 2003 at the Memorial Health Center, Extended Care. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Fri., May 23 in the Evangelical Free Church in Sidney with Pastor Doug Birky officiating. Burial will be in the Potter Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to the Sidney Evangelical Free Church, the Sidney Memorial Gardens or the Neb. Boys Ranch at Alliance, Neb.. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Helen Ludmila Peterson, the daughter of Charles and Daisy (Kubes) Dedic was born September 17, 1912 at Crete, Neb.. She met Ernest Peterson at a picnic at Redington, Neb. on July 4, 1931. They were married on February 24, 1932 at the courthouse in Sidney.
In 1938 they moved to Vermillion, S.D. and in 1941 to a farm north of Potter, Neb.. They spent the majority of their years in the Gurley, Neb. area as farmers. In 1978 they bought a home in Sidney and moved there where she lived until entering the nursing home.
She was active in churches in Gurley and Sidney; the Extension Club, was a Girl Scout leader and actively worked at the Memorial Gardens in Sidney. She took several trips with the SSO (Surviving Spouse Organization). In 1980, she and her daughter Belva went to England to visit their pen pals. She enjoyed working in her yard and helping neighbors. Helen loved people and was a very giving person.
Survivors include one son, Weldon Peterson and wife Winnie of Potter, NE; one daughter, Belva Tisdale and husband Don of Dix, NE; three granddaughters: Brenda Ledall and husband Gary of Imperial, NE, Colette Jessen and husband Loren of Mesa, AZ and Christine Rhynalds and husband Bob of Wilber, NE; one grandson, Kurt Peterson; three great-grandchildren: Tiffany, Chandra and Callin Ledall and three step-great-grandchildren: Andrew, Amanda and Neil Rhynalds.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in Oct. of 1979, 1 sister and 3 brothers.
Edward F. Smith
Edward F. Smith, 88, formerly of Kimball, died May 5, 2003 at the Veterans Hospital in Roseburg, Ore.
Ed was born in Kimball to Vern and Mae Smith, May 9, 1914. He was educated at and graduated from Kimball County High School in 1932. His career took him to Wyoming, Illinois, Indiana and California and for the past 30 years, he resided in Myrtle Creek, Ore.
During his military service years, he received honors including the Bronze medal and Purple Heart. He lost his left leg during a battle in Korea while serving his country.
Edward was preceded in death by his wife Katheryn; his parents, his sister, Dorothy Sandridge; and brother, Robert R. Sandridge of Kimball.
Survivors include son Graydon Smith, Lincoln City, Ore.; daughters Teri Piro and Jim, Lake Oswego, Ore.; grandchildren Kyle, Kevin and D’Anne Piro; Elias and Caressa Smith; sister Alta Maxted and Merle of Sigourney, Iowa; sister, Vera Clary of Gering; nieces and nephews.
Cantrell Funeral Home was in charge of graveside services held in Kimball May 15 at 1 p.m.
Gloria Maye (Barrett) Woods
Gloria Maye (Barrett)Woods, 51, died on Friday April 18, 2003 at her home in rural Gloucester County, Va. She was born October 30, 1951 in Kimball, Neb. to C. Lyle and Doris May (Churchill) Barrett. She grew up on the family farm in Banner County and was active in 4-H. She graduated from Banner County High School and attended the University Nebraska-Lincoln on a Regents Scholarship. She recently attended EPCI, a community college in Newport News, Va., studying for a career in Information Technology.
In 1970, she married Jeffrey Lee Vian of Thedford, Neb. To this union was born their three children: Cynthia Ann, Jeffrey Allan and Andrew Michael . As a military wife, Gloria and her family traveled the country and Europe.
In 1989, she married Julian Calvin Woods at the Presbyterian Church of Kimball. They raised their five children and provided a home and haven for many other young people, who Gloria affectionately referred to as "the spares." In her words, “Each one is special in their own way and I'm proud of the contributions I have made to their lives.”
She is survived by her husband, Julian Woods, five children: Jeffrey Allen Vian of Gloucester, Va.; Cynthia Vian Krutsinger (husband Glenn); and Andrew Michael Vian, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; James Woods of Michigan; and Dallas Woods Rivers (husband Alan) of Gloucester; five grandchildren; mother, Doris Barrett of Kimball; two brothers, Floyd Barrett (wife Pat) of Kimball; Charles Barrett (wife Kaye) of Arvada, Colo.; numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
An infant son, Jeremy Lee Vian, and her father, C. Lyle Barrett, preceded her in death.
A memorial service was held in Gloucester, Va. on Sat., April 26. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sat., May 10 at the Presbyterian Church of Kimball.
The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the American Cancer Society.
Gene B. Pendleton
Gene B. Pendleton, 68, of Kimball, Neb., died April 18 at United Medical Center-West, Cheyenne, Wyo..He was born May 2, 1934 in Kentucky. He worked as an engineer for the Burlington Northern Railroad for more than 20 years and was a member of the Baptist Church and the Sons of the Legion. He was also a Mason and a Shriner.
Mr. Pendleton is survived e by his wife, June of Kimball; a son, John Pendleton of Michigan; two daughters, Jeannie Middendorf of Indiana and Hyla Caudill of Michigan; two stepsons, David Pintreich of Wayne, Mich., and Daniel Pintreich of Milton, W. Va.; three stepdaughters, Sharon Furr of Brookfield, Fla.; Linda Rorke of Kimball; and Jean Pintreich of Farwell, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Edna Pendleton. Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens. Remembrance will be at the Wooden Keg May 2, 4-6 p.m.
Bernard Haddix
Bernard Haddix, 78, of Kimball, died at his home on Tuesday, April 22, 2003. Funeral Services were held Sat., April 26 at the Kimball Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Dieter Rademacher officiated. Burial was in the Kimball Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Kimball Evangelical Free Church or to the Kimball Eagles AERIE #3889.
He was born May 8, 1924 at Mason City, Neb. to Winfield and Abbie May (Fielding) Haddix. He was one of five children. His mother died when he was four years old and the family moved to Kimball County.
After his marriage to Eunice Cassel on August 3, 1942, they moved to the Sunflower District of Mitchell where he farmed for several years. In 1954 he moved the family to Ft. Morgan, Colo., where he spent four years working oil fields throughout Colorado and New Mexico. In 1958 they returned to Nebraska and he farmed the family homestead three miles west of Kimball, where he resided until his death. His wife Eunice of 60 years died on Feb. 12, 2003.
Bernard served with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during WW II and was a life member of the VFW. He was very active in the establishment of the Eagles AERIE 3889 and served as President for a term and as manager several years. He was dedicated to the Eagles and his commitment will long be remembered. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Scottsbluff. One of his passions in life was the many years he spent on bowling leagues in Kimball where he met some of his closest friends.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Elwin and Michelle Haddix of Santa Cruz, Calif., and a daughter, Dona Carmichael of Kimball, and a sister Gladys Knispel of Kearney, and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His wife, parents and three brothers preceded him in death.
Gloria Barrett
Gloria Maye Barrett Woods, 51 of Gloucester, VA died Friday, April 18, 2003 at her home. She is the daughter of Doris Barrett, of Kimball, and the late Lyle Barrett. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. on May 10, 2003 at the Presbyterian Church of Kimball.
Phoebe Barrett
Phoebe G. (Stearley) Barrett, 101, of Kimball died Friday, March 19, 2004 at the Kimball County Manor. A private committal service was held on Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at the Kimball Cemetery. A memorial service was held at the Kimball County Manor Chapel. Pastor Mel Daves of the First Baptist Church of Kimball officiated. Memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church, the Kimball County Manor, or to a charity of the donors choice. The Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball was in charge of arrangements.
Phoebe was born July 19, 1902 at Gibbon, the daughter of Jacob and Regina (Steinhilber) Stearley. She received her early education in Buffalo and Deuel Counties finishing school at Kimball. Having taken advantage of teacher training she taught in country schools in four different counties of Nebraska. She supplemented her teaching education by attending Kearney State Teachers College during the summers.
Following Phoebe’s teaching years, she attended Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada and subsequently worked as a matron in a Children’s Home in Denver. Here she taught Bible classes to children of WW II widows who left their children while they worked in men’s positions for the duration of the war. Following the war, the American Sunday School Union sponsored Phoebe as she taught Bible lessons by flannelgraph in rural schools around Greeley, Colo. and Ft. Collins, Colo.
On October 8,1948 Phoebe married Arthur H. (Harold) Barrett in Kimball. He died on June 13, 1957. Phoebe was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Kimball.
Survivors include one step-daughter, Verla Jean (Barrett) Kellenberger of Litchfield, Ill.; nephews Kendall and wife Beverly Atkins, and Howard and wife Peggy Atkins of Dix; nieces Dolores and husband Don Horton of Greeley, Colo., Mary Jane and husband Vern Samuels of Polk, Neb. and other numerous nieces and nephews. Local Barrett family survivors include Mr. and Mrs. Earl Barrett, Erma Barrett, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Barrett, Mrs. And Mrs. Robert Barrett and Bertha Sandberg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and fifteen brothers and sisters including Virginia Atkins of Kimball.
Fern Barrett
Fern Alatha (Pile) Bybee Barrett, 88, of Kimball, died Sunday Jan. 16, 2005 at her home with her family at her side. Funeral Services were Jan. 19 at the Cantrell Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Randy Webb officiating. Burial was in the Kimball Cemetery. Visitation was Jan. 18. Memorials may be made to Prairie Haven Hospice. Cantrell Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Fern Alatha Bybee Barrett was born March 23, 1916 to George and Margaret (Jackson) Pile near Oconto, in Custer County. She moved to Banner County in 1921 and lived there until moving to Kimball in 1981.
Fern and Earl C. Bybee were united in marriage June 2, 1937 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Fern worked most of her life as a cook in the kitchens of Banner County School and the Kimball Senior Citizen Center. She married Earl W. Barrett on October 3, 1987.
She was a member of Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church in Banner County since June of 1926.
Fern is survived by her husband Earl Barrett, sons James and wife Judith Bybee of Yuma, Ariz.; Randall and wife Peggy Bybee of Hickman; daughters Sharilyn and husband A.E. Shafer of Lincoln; Halene and husband Paul Semadeni of Sahuarita, Ariz.; Bertha and husband Randy Webb of Eureka, Ill. and a daughter-in-law Carol Bybee of El Cajon, Calif. Other survivors include four step-children, Janice and Chester Pfaff; Earladeen and Gordon Walker; David and Donna Barrett, and Ronald and RoJane Barrett; 17 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren that she loved as her own.
Fern was preceded in death by her first husband Earl, son Carl and two grandchildren.
Howard Barrett
Lifelong Banner County resident Howard Barrett, 73, died at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff on June 6, 2005. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday (today) at the Presbyterian Church in Kimball with Pastor Alan Foutz officiating. Masonic services will be performed by James Eatmon Masonic Lodge #294. Burial will follow in the Kimball Cemetery.
Bernard Haddix
Bernard Haddix, 78 of Kimball, died at his home on Tuesday, April 22, 2003. Funeral Services for Mr. Haddix will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 26, 2003 at the Kimball Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Dieter Rademacher will officiate. Burial will be at the Kimball Cemetery. Memorials may be made to either the Kimball E.V. Free Church or to the Eagles AERIE 3889 of Kimball. Glen Brothers
Glen Edwin Brothers, 84 of rural Dix died Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at Memorial Health Care in Sidney. Funeral Services were Monday, April 21 at the Potter United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mary Frohs will officiate. Burial was in the Kimball Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Potter Rescue Unit or the Potter Methodist Church.
He was born April 5, 1919 in a stone house on a farm twelve miles northeast of Dix that was built by his grandfather Benjamin Brothers in 1909. He was a son of Charles Alfred and Selma (Johnson) Brothers. He attended District 40 County school through sixth grade and then Dix Public Schools. Glen started helping his father farm at an early age and decided he would like to be a farmer and rented his first piece of farm ground at age 18.
He and Dorothy Graham were married on August 17, 1941 at the Kimball Presbyterian Church. They moved to a farm northeast of Dix that his grandfather had homesteaded in 1890 and they purchased the farm in 1943.
Glen served on the Kimball County Weed Board, Extension Board, District 40 School Board, Farm Bureau Director, was a member of the Wheat Growers Association and board member of Kimball County Historical Museum. He was President of Bethel Cemetery Association for 37 years and caretaker for the cemetery for over 50 years.
Glen and Dorothy were honored as outstanding farm couple in Kimball County in 1961 and with the Pioneer Farm award by Ak-Sar-Bin in 1990. He was a member of the Potter United Methodist Church and served on the Administration Council and Trustees. He also taught Adult Sunday school for 25 years. He managed Ag Accessories and invented, patented and made the grain drill bullet and rod weeder disk attachment.
His hobbies were hunting for Indian artifacts and restoring antiques. He loved rodeos, fairs and traveling. He and Dorothy had traveled to six European countries, the Holy Land, Canada, Hawaiian Islands and every state in the union. Glen farmed until he was 80 years old when his sons took over due to his ill health.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Dorothy, two sons Dennis and wife Pat of Potter and Roger and wife Laura of Dix, one daughter Lana Clarey and husband Dale of Gering. Grandchildren, Tadd and Kimberly Clarey, Ethan Clarey, Brad Brothers, Tim Brothers, Dena and Bill Moffit, Darren Brothers, Dan Brothers, Kerri and Tim Dealey. Great Grandchildren Nathan Brothers, Mack Moffit, and Ashlyn Dealey. One brother Dewey and wife Betty and a sister Myrtle Wynne.
His parents and a brother-in-law Kenneth Wynne preceded him in death.
Edward Cannon
Edward Dale Cannon, 78 of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., formerly of Kimball, died at Lake Havasu City on April 16, 2003. Funeral Services were April 22 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kimball. The Rev. Robert Karnish will officiate. Burial was in the Kimball Cemetery.
Dale was born April 7, 1925 in Limon, Okla. a son of Walter Lee and Rachel (Breedlove) Cannon. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II as an airplane mechanic. He lived in Kimball for many years and was the owner and operator of C & C well service from 1952 to 1974. Dale moved to Arizona three years ago for health reasons. He was devoted to his family and never met a person he didn't like.
He is survived by his wife Eileen (Fell) Cannon of Lake Havasu City, a son Robert and wife Elaine Cannon of Green River, WY, two daughters, Arlene Meredith of North Platte, NE and Jeannie Evertson of Las Cruces, N.M. One brother Donald Cannon of Vernal, UT, nine grandchildren, Allen Meredith, Robert Meredith, Edward Evertson, Julie Wamsley, J.T. Willie, Heather Cannon, Andrea Cannon, Alesha Cannon, Edward "Bubba" Cannon, several nieces nephews, great grandchildren and his dog Dandy.
His parents and a son Edward Lee Cannon preceded him in death.
Albert Sporhase
Albert "Al" Sporhase, 92 of Kimball died on Friday, April 18, 2003 at the Kimball County Manor. Funeral Services were Wed., April 23, at St. John's Lutheran Church of Kimball with Pastor Tom Jacobsen officiating. Burial was in the Kimball Cemetery.
Memorials may be made either to the Kimball Manor, St. John's Lutheran Church, or Zion Lutheran Church of Grover.
Albert was born October 25, 1910 in Otoe, NE, a son of John and Anna (Elhers) Sporhase. He was raised in eastern Nebraska and educated in the Otoe Public Schools. He married Delah Lange on March 22, 1947 in Hiawatha, KS.
Al worked for the R.E.A. and was a police officer in Otoe. He also served on the fire department. After he and Delah moved to northeastern Colorado he did farming and ranching. He also drove school bus on a rural route. The couple moved to Kimball in 1998. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended Zion Church near Grover, CO and St. John's Church in Kimball.
He is survived by his wife Delah, two sons Delbert Sporhase of Cheyenne and his friend Katarina Trent and David and wife Christine Sporhase of Sierra Vista, AZ; two daughters Charlotte and husband Larry Kissler of Laramie, WY, and Esther Sporhase of Grover, CO. Two brothers John and wife Norma Sporhase of Norfolk, VA, and Jessie and wife Doris Sporhase of Syracuse, NE and two sisters Minnie Meyer of Nebraska City, NE and Emma Fielen of Council Bluffs, IA; also 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 4 brothers.
Willis E. Rothermund
Willis E. Rothermund, 76, of Pine Bluffs died April 7 at Kindred Hospital in Denver. He was born May 6, 1926 in Ralston, Neb. He married Mary (Carr) Rothermund on July 22, 1950 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of United Methodist Church of Pine Bluffs and a member of the National Letter Carriers Assoc.
Mr. Rothermund is survived by his wife Mary, of Pine Bluffs; a daughter, Kristie Moritz and son-in-law, Greg Moritz of Pine Bluffs; six brothers: Gordon Rothermund and Howard Rothermund, both of Omaha, Neb., Richard Rothermund of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Ronald Rothermund of Boise, Idaho, Robert Rothermund of Tennessee, and Kenneth Rothermund of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five sisters: Betty Schram of Tekamah, Neb., Dorothy Kentner of Sun City, Calif., Shirly Morgan of Oceanside, Calif., Delores Ingwersen of Omaha, Neb., and Carol Bunch of Rockford, Ill.; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Martha (Wittmuss) Rothermund; and a brother, Leroy Rothermund.
Memorial services were held at Wed. at United Methodist Church in Pine Bluffs with the Rev. Terilynn Russ officiating. Cremation took place at Schrader's Sunset Park Crematory and burial was at Pine Bluffs Cemetery. Friends may contribute to Pine Bluffs Ambulance Fund or United Medical Center, Cheyenne, Wyo.
Kenneth Gifford
Kenneth Gifford, 96 of Gering, Neb., died Friday, April 11, 2003 at the Northfield Villa Medical Center in Gering.
A private graveside service was Tuesday at West Lawn Cemetery and a memorial service was Tuesday at the Harrisburg Community Church with Pastor Ken Boston officiating. Memorials have been established to the Harrisburg Community Church.
Kenneth was born on July 9, 1906 to Owen Sr. and Louisa (Brade) Gifford in Wilcox, Neb. He graduated from Atlanta High School in Atlanta, Neb. in 1925.
After graduation he worked with his father and family on the farm in the area of Wilcox. In 1931, he came with his father and brothers to Banner County and ranched and farmed. He married Marie Bair August 20, 1932 in Gering. They moved to Northfield Villa in 1996.
He took great pride in his cattle herd, ranch and his family. He was a member of the Harrisburg Community Church, 85 Rifle Club, Farm Bureau and the Nebraska Cattleman's Association. He enjoyed reading western books.
He is survived by his sons John Jr. and Sherry Gifford of Harrisburg, Roger and Shirley Gifford of Gering; grandsons Brad and Robin Gifford of Lincoln, Craig and Holly Gifford of Roca, Neb., Kyle and Lynn Gifford of North Platte, Neb.; 6 great grandchildren, Madison, Josha, Emerie, Johnna, Samuel and Regan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marie and two brothers and three sisters.
