Alma L. Mitchell
The memorial service for Alma L. Mitchell is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000 at the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.
Mrs. Mitchell, 85, of Ashland, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000 at Providence Medford Medical Center. She was born Dec. 11, 1914 in Noble, Ark., the daughter of Tommy Myers and the former Josephine Verbel. On Dec. 2, 1930 at Noble, she married Charles Leonard Mitchell, who preceded her in death in 1974.
The couple moved to Ashland in 1943, where Mrs. Mitchell worked in food service for the Ashland School District until her 1975 retirement.
Survivors include her son, Cleatis Mitchell of Clackamas; daughter Ramona G. Fletcher of Reno, Nev.; sisters Helen Childers of Arkansas, and Goldie Whitson of Missouri; 17 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, Jerry and Winston Mitchell.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.
Claudia S. Arrington
The memorial service for Claudia Sue Arrington is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000 at the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home. Pastor John Miner will officiate. Private family burial will follow the service.
Mrs. Arrington, 74, of Ashland, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000 at the Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford. She was born Dec. 17, 1925 in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Milo Ward and Edythe (Courtney) Parkinson. As an infant, she moved to Ashland with her family, where she lived her entire life.
Her husband, Johnny Arrington, preceded her in death in 1996.
Mrs. Arrington was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with family, bowling, and listening to music. She was a member of the Ashland Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her sons, Timothy W. Lytle of Ashland, Patrick D. Lytle (residence unknown), and Andrew T. Arrington of Ashland; daughters Cynthia A. Stranberg of Ashland, and Nanette S. Grimes of Wasilla, Ark.; and five grandchildren.

Irma M. Hoff
Irma M. Hoff, 76, of Talent died Thursday, July 12, 2001 at her home. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2001 at the Valley Bible Fellowship, 616 S. Pacific Hwy. in Talent. Pastor Bob Huntoon of the Valley Bible Fellowship will officiate. Interment

Irma M. Hoff was born November 27, 19244 in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. In 1945, she married Desider K. K. Weisz, who preceded her in death. In 1969, in San Jose, Calif., she married Harold O. Hoff, who also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hoff resided in San Jose, Calif., from 1950 to 1997 after immigrating from Europe.
She moved to the Rogue Valley in December of 1997.
As a teenager during World War II in Czechoslovakia, Irma and her family endured many hardships while helping those in need, including hiding a Jewish woman in their home whose husband had been sent to a concentration camp. When Irma immigrated to the U.S. with her family, she continued caring for others and was always the first one to help if a neighbor was ill. Her life was characterized by selflessness, generosity, and a firm faith in God, who gave her strength.
Survivors include a son, Paul Weisz of San Jose, Calif.; a daughter, Margaret Daly of Phoenix, Ore.; her mother, Margaret Paulsen of Ashland; a brother, John Paulsen of San Jose, Calif.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Peter Weisz, and her father, John Paulsen, Sr.

Avis Marian Kohal
Avis Marian Kohal, 80, of Talent, died Thursday, August 16, 2001 at Three Fountains Nursing Center in Medford. A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, August 20, 2001 at Grace Lutheran Church in Ashland, with Pastor Tony Schultz officiating. Inurnment will be in Mayville, N.D.

Avis was born December 17, 1920 in Mayville, N.D., to Henri and Hanah Wenaas. She married Donald Kohal August 1, 1972 in Reno, Nev. She moved to Coos Bay area in Oregon in 1948 from North Dakota. In 1975, she moved to the Rogue Valley.
She enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, and was an avid reader. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Ashland.
Survivors include her husband Donald Kohal of Talent; a son, David Enge of Albany, Ore.; a step-son, Alan Kohal of Pinehurst, Idaho; four brothers, Steve Wenaas of Carrington, N.D., Donald Wenaas of Jamestown, N.D., Harold Wenaas of Great Falls, Mont., and Charles Wenaas of Mayville, N.D.; two sisters, Beverly Sorenson of Jolliet, Ill., and Helen Fay Wenaas of Mayville, N.D.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Lt. Col. Gorden Wenaas, who was killed in Vietnam in 1969.

Avis McGee Anderson
Funeral services for former Ashland resident Avis McGee Anderson are planned for 6 p.m. on Saturday at Mt. View Cemetery, 440 Normal Ave., Ashland.
Anderson, 88, died on Sunday in Corvallis.
She was born in Redding, Calif. to Allen and Lottie McGee. She was raised primarily in Ashland, although during her elementary school years, her family homesteaded in Kamloops, B.C.
The family later returned to Ashland, where Anderson graduated from Ashland High School and subsequently received her teaching credentials at Southern Oregon College of Education. She also attended Oregon State College.
Anderson taught in several small Oregon towns, including Eddyville and Tualatin.
She married Colver F. Anderson in 1940 in Ashland and they had three sons.
Due to her husband's geology career, the family moved often and lived, at various times, in most of the western states. In 1964, the family returned to Ashland.
Mr. Anderson passed away in 1998 and she moved to Corvallis with her son and his family, where she spent the rest of her life.
An avid gardener, painter and reader, Anderson also enjoyed sewing and camping and regularly attended Methodist church services.
She is survived by her sons, Richard Anderson of Corvallis, Ore., Allen Anderson of Centralia, Wash and Edward Anderson of Tenino, Wash; four grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren

Leo Butcher
Mr. Leo Butcher, 79, died Wednesday, August 8, 2001 at his home in Jacksonville, Ore. Private memorial services will be held for Mr. Leo Butcher at 11 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2001 at the Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point, Ore. Father David Schiferl and Bishop Thomas LaPoint will be officiating.
Leo Butcher was born April 23, 1922 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Isaac Butcher and Mary Kinney Butcher. On May 1, 1970, in Norwalk, Calif., he married Joan Peiffer who survives at their home.
He went to schools in Alhambra, Calif., and graduated from the Alhambra High School. He retired in 1993 as a carpenter and builder in the valley. Leo was in the Army Air Force and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Joan, seven children, Kathy Radford, Suzanne Haveman, Thomas LaPoint, Michael LaPoint, Gregory LaPoint, Edward LaPoint, Steven Butcher, 15 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Helen G. Farmer
Helen G. Farmer, 94, of Ashland, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001 at Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland.
Private interment
will be at Mountain View Cemetery, Ashland.
Mrs. Farmer was born April 28, 1907 in Kirksville, Mo., a daughter of Edward was Zoa Lita (Kigging) Pulse. Her family moved to Ashland from Montana when she was a teen-ager.
She graduated from Ashland High School.
On Jan. 31, 1925 at Jacksonville, she married Ivan Farmer, who preceded her in death in 1979.
Survivors include her sons, Jack Farmer of Medford and Jerry Farmer; and two grandchildren.

Allene Ruth Wolfe
Allene Ruth Wolfe of Eugene, and formerly of Ashland, died Nov. 16, 2001 of natural causes. She was 80.
Mrs. Wolfe was born Jan. 10, 1921 in Neptune, N.J., to William and Amelia Seifert Gundaker. She married Arnold Wolfe in San Francisco on Aug. 6, 1944.
She graduated from high school, and Wolfe was a homeaker and enjoyed traveling, sewing and crafts. She especially enjoyed her family.
Mrs. Wolfe lived in Spokane from 19945 until 1957, when she moved to Ashland.
She was a member of the First Congregationsl Church in Ashland.
She moved to Eugene in 1990.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Carolyn Pennington of Eugene and Glenda Hale of Gresham; a sister, Mildred Weissenburger of Point Pleasant, N.J.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A family celebration of life is planned. England's Eugene Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Jeffrey Allen Staver
Jeffrey Allen Stewart, 32, of The Dalles, and formerly of Ashland, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001.
Mr. Staver was born Oct. 11, 1969 at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Guam, the first of three children to Robert and Janice (Gannon) Staver. He lived his first year on the island of Guam. After his family moved to The Dalles, in 1974, Jeffrey attended St. Mary's Academy and graduated from The Dalles High School in 1988.
He studied architecture at the University of Oregon for four years before transferring to Southern Oregon University where he earned a BFA in Scenic Design with honors in the department of Theatre Arts in 1999.
At SOU, Mr. Staver worked as technical director and scenic designer for numerous productions including Born Yesterday, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, Cementville, Voice of the Prairie, Goodnight Desdemona, Goodmorning Juliet, and Night of the Iguana. He later interned at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland in the spring of 1999 and worked for the festival during the 1999 season. He was selected as the festival's technical director and assistant designer for the OSF Exhibit Center during the 2000 season. After completing one year of the MFA program in Scenic Design at the University of Washington, Jeffrey was on leave while designing sets for several productions in Portland.
Mr. Staver enjoyed music, snowboarding, mountaineering, and ran in the Hood to Coast race several times.
Survivors include his parents, Robert and Janice Staver of The Dalles.; a sister, Jennifer (Staver) Hohenlohe and her husband Paul of Corvallis; a brother, Jonathan Staver of Seattle, Wash.; his grandparents, Ruth and Cecil Staver of Fort Collins, Colo.; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mary Ann Catherine Mahoney
Mary Ann Catherine Mahoney, 78, of Ashland died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001 at her home. A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2001 at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, 987 Hillview Dr., Ashland. Rev. O.P. Gerald Buckley will officiate.
Mrs. Mahoney was born Nov. 10, 1923 in Hazelton, Iowa to Leroy Mahoney and Mary Burnham Mahoney. She went to high school in Venice, Calif., graduating in 1942. She graduated from the University of Washington in 1946. She was married in Seattle, Wash., in 1948 to her former spouse Arlo Joseph Dehnert.
She came to Ashland and Central Point in 1978. She worked with the Hospice Home Health Care until retiring December 31, 1994.
She belonged to Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Ashland, Dominican Laity, The St. Vincent DePaul Society, Charismatic Prayer Group, and she was the editor of the "Hillhaven," the church newsletter.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph Dehnert of California, and Christopher Dehnert of Scal Rock, Ore.; two daughters, Storyteller of Maui, Hawaii, and Mary Burris of Lorane, Ore.; two brothers, Ben Mahoney of Coos Bay., and Robert Mahoney of Niles, Mich.; a sister, Ella Anderson of Sun City, Calif.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Anneva, and two brothers, Andrew and Ira.

Corrine Iris Maxwell, 91, of Medford died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001 at Farmington Square in Medford. Graveside memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2001 at the Ashland Cemetery. Pastor Lee Saunders of Covenant Life Ministries will officiate.
Corrine Iris was born January 22, 1910 in Ashland to Arthur and Dora Hubbard. She attended Ashland schools. She married George Maxwell on February 19, 1931 in Dallas, Ore. She moved from Dallas, Ore., to the Rogue Valley in 1996.
Mrs. Maxwell was a homemaker who enjoyed bowling, bingo, and outdoor activities like hunting and fishing.
Survivors include her brother, Delmar A. Hubbard of Central Point, Ore., and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Maxwell.
Mary C. Harshman
No local services are planned for Mary C. Harshman of Ashland, who died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001 at her home. She was 60.

Ms. Harshman was born Dec. 17, 1941 in Seattle.
She worked as a development assistant for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son Miguel and daughters Kimary, Kerrill, Krista and Corrina, all of California; her brothers Jerry, Patrick, Larry and Tom, and sisters Cecilia, Elizabeth and Rose, all of Washington; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Running, 90, of Ashland, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001 at her residence.
She was born July 22, 1911 in Woodburn to John and Lena Peterson. On July 6, 1939 at Portland, she married Andrew M. Running, who survives. She attended Walla Walla College, College Place, Wash., and Monmouth College, Monmouth.
She was a schoolteacher and a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, music, singing and walking. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Andrew M. Running of Ashland; son Thomas E. Running of Hayward, Calif.; daughter Carol Down Milazzo, Hilo, Hawaii; sister Annetta Mae Joers, Reedsport; one grandchild and four great-grand children.

Mr. Kent was born Aug. 30, 1957 in Medford to James C. and Lotte (Gossman) Kent. He was a 1976 graduate of Medford High School and attended Rogue Community College in Grants Pass for two years.
He enjoyed animals, music, golfing (he recorded a hole-in-one on hole 13 at Bear Creek Golf Course), and was an outdoorsman.
Survivors include his mother, Lotte Coggins of Sheridan.; his son Lonny Flora of Corvallis; two brothers, James Henry Kent of Sheridan, and Dave Kent of Sherwood; and his sister Elaine Stitt of Medford. He was preceded in death by his father, James C. Kent, in 1987.
