Joseph Dugaro
ELDORADO, Ill. — Joseph Dugaro, 81, died Thursday at Ferrell Hospital.
He was an electrician and a miner at Wasson and Sahara coal companies.
He was a 60-year member of Slovene National Benefit Society, a 30-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and a past board member of Golden Circle.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred Lindsey (Leithliter); a daughter, Joella Dullinger of Farmington Hills, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Brenda Banks of Eldorado; two sons, Tony Leo and Steven K., both of Eldorado; a stepson, Tommy Lindsey of Eldorado; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna (Hareld).
Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home, with burial in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Harrisburg.

McLEANSBORO, Ill. — Dorothy Mabel Rawls, 89, died Wednesday afternoon at Bakersfield (Calif.) Memorial Hospital.
Surviving are two sons, Bill of Hampton, Va., and Butch of Taft, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rosier, in 1985 and by a son, Gerald.

MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. — Bessie Ellen Dunkel, 77, died Thursday at Shurtleff Manor Nursing Home.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Wabash General Hospital, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion auxiliaries.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary E. Dunkel, Ann Jones and Sarah Hadra, all of Mount Carmel; a brother, Albert Eugene Bailey Sr. of Terre Haute, Ind.; and eight grandchildren.
Her husband, Gilbert, died in 1989.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. — Rita Sue Cargill, 49, died Thursday at home of natural causes.
She worked 18 years at Burgin Manor Nursing Home in Olney.
She was a member of Bethsaida Congregational Christian Church in New Harmony, Ind.
Surviving are her husband, Lester; three sons, Jamie of Lawrenceville, Geoff of Fairfield and Keith of Olney; her mother, Rose Mary (Jim) Allison of Poseyville, Ind.; five sisters, Bev Dicus of Mount Carmel and Lynn Bridges, Jeannie Mendenhall, Gail George and Diane Robb, all of Poseyville; two brothers, Jimmy Wayne Allison of Poseyville and Steve Sutton of Keensburg; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Chris.

FAIRFIELD, Ill. — Bernice Thacker, 98, died Friday morning at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.
She worked at Sexton’s and Camp’s Factory and retired after 25 years at Airtex.
She was a member of Rebekah Lodge, the American Legion and Fairfield Memorial Hospital auxiliaries and Royal Neighbors.
Surviving are a daughter, Bernida Hutcheson of Fairfield; two sons, Arthur Jr. of Tampa, Fla., and John of Pekin; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Arthur “Otto,” died in 1983.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Nale’s Funeral Home Fairfield Chapel, with burial in Koontz Cemetery.

William Turner
MARION, Ill. — William Carl Turner, 88, died Thursday morning at Parkway Manor Nursing Home.
He worked at Public Service Co. of Northern Illinois and then at Commonwealth Edison Co. in Chicago in the meter, accounting, engineering and real estate departments. He retired after 39 years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Lake Creek Masonic Lodge 729, Scottish Rite Valley of Southern Illinois, Ainad Temple, Shrine East St. Louis and Williamson County Shrine Club. He helped organize and served as president of SCORE Chapter 725 of the Small Business Administration, board member of Marion Chapter American Association of Retired Persons, Senior Citizens, United Way and Meals on Wheels, former president of the Parent-Teachers Association at Lindop School in Broadview and former president and board member of West Suburban School for Retarded Children in Lombard.
He was a former deacon, elder and chairman of congregation at Christian Church of Maywood.
Surviving are his wife, Grace E. (Munn); a daughter, Olivia White of Double Oak, Texas; a son, Lewis of Marion; a sister, Helen Poole of Johnston City; and three grandchildren, Krista, Jeremy and Joshua White.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, with entombment in Coal Bank Springs Cemetery in Dykersburg.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be at 7 p.m.

She was an educational business manager and a member of Southern Illinois Hunting Club and the hospital auxiliary.

Edward Scheessele
Edward L. Scheessele, 82, of Newburgh, died Monday morning at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He founded and has operated Edward L. Scheessele & Sons Construction Co. since 1952. He was a member and past president of Metropolitan Evansville Home Builders Association, and life director of the National Association of Home Builders.
He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, the St. John Men’s Club and various church committees. He was a member of the St. John Cemetery board for more than 40 years.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus and Knights of St. John.
Surviving are a daughter, Liz Effinger of Wadesville, Ind.; two sons, Damien of Newburgh and Richard of Evansville; two sisters, Sister Anna Scheessele of Evansville and Sister Freida Scheessele of Beech Grove, Ind.; six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Brian, Marc, Keith, Matthew and Emily; and a great-grandchild.
His wife, Carolyn “Carrie,” died in 1997.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, continuing at 11 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church in Newburgh, the Rev. Joseph Ziliak officiating, with burial in St. John Church Cemetery.

Samuel E. Settlemoire Jr., 75, of Evansville, died Monday afternoon at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He retired from Chrysler Corp. after 30 years.
He was a member of Evansville Masonic Lodge 64, Evansville Valley Scottish Rite, Hadi Temple Shrine, Germania Maennerchor, Eugene Pate American Legion Post 265, Evansville Athletic Club, Eagles Aerie 4023, Owls Nest 30 and Indiana Sheriff’s Association.
He was a life member of River Bend Association.
Surviving are a daughter, Judy Woehler of Kuttawa, Ky.; a son, Samuel E. III of Boonville, Ind.; his mother, Mary Nell Settlemoire of Princeton, Ind.; a sister, Deloris Gibson of Evansville; and three grandchildren, Tim, Samantha and Matthew Settlemoire.
