Alan Paul Conrad, 35, of Evansville, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital of a heart attack.
He was a 1982 graduate of Reitz High School.
He was a firefighter, for the past four years, with the Evansville Fire Department at Hose House #1.
He was formerly an EMT with Mercy Ambulance.
He enjoyed radio-controlled airplanes, fishing, scuba diving, golf and his family.
Surviving are his wife of five years, Diana (Hildebrandt); a daughter, Randi Conrad of Evansville; a stepdaughter, Samantha Evans at home; a son, Cory Alan at home; two sisters, Lynn Champion of Florence, S.C., and Pam Karslake of Rose Hill, Kan.; two brothers, Bill of Robbin Air Force Base, Ga., and Rod of Danville, Ind.; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Browning Funeral Home, the Rev. Walter Ullman officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Avy Waters
Avy “Dolly” Waters, 77, of Evansville, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of kidney failure.
He had owned and operated Waters Garage in Evansville.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was Protestant.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Mary E. (Hall); 10 daughters, Lucille Shehorn of Henderson, Ky., Beverly Carwile, Nancy Smith, Mary Scarbrough, Debbie Huggins, Carla Davis, Carol Morris, Theresa Yingst and Cathy Russell, all of Evansville, and Kelly Jones of Waverly, Tenn.; five sons, Jim, Danny, Perry, Joe and Brent, all of Evansville; a brother, J.P. of Elberfeld, Ind.; 44 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. C. Marion Brown officiating, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Elmira Craig
Elmira L. Craig, 77, of Evansville, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital of cancer.
She attended Reitz High School.
She had worked at Saveway Market, Jerry’s Market and Kroeger.
She was a member of St. Pauls United Church of Christ on West Michigan.
Surviving are two daughters, Jane Hettenbach and Judy Bozeman, both of Evansville; a brother, Marvin “Pete” Fetscher of Evansville; five grandchildren, Jeffrey and Scott Hettenbach, Darla and Danny Bozeman and Debra Deig; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, the Rev. Markus Auffermann officiating, with burial in Locust Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Alma Southard
Alma Kathryn Southard, 89, of Evansville, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Woodlands Convalescent Center in Newburgh.
She was a graduate of Reitz High School and a 1932 graduate of Indiana University.
She had worked as a medical assistant and retired in 1976 as office manager of Evansville Surgical Associates.
She was a life member of First Baptist Church and was the first member baptized in the new church on Cherry Street.
She was also a member of Phi Mu Sorority and two-time president of the First District Medical Assistants Association.
Surviving are a cousin and a friend who cared for her, James O. Varner of Avandale, Va., and Joan Whitehead of Otwell.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Leonard Harmon officiating, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital or to the American Heart Association.

Eugene Brickner
Eugene C. Brickner, 72, of Evansville, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at his home of an apparent heart attack.
He had worked for Whirlpool Corp. as an assembler, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of St. Benedict Cathedral and a former member of the Knights of St. Johns 259 St. Mary’s Commandery.
He was a Korean War Army veteran, serving in the artillery.
Surviving are three daughters, Rita M. Gehlhausen, Ann L. Carter and Jane E. Small, all of Evansville; a son, Patrick J. of Evansville; five grandchildren; and a stepgrandchild.
His wife, Helen, died in 1996.
Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 9 a.m. at St. Benedict Cathedral, the Rev. Harold Hammerstein officiating, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Betty Alves
Betty Lou Alves, 51, of Evansville, formerly of Henderson, Ky., died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital of natural causes.
She was a disabled worker.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Henderson and was active in the Southwestern Indiana Mental Health Center.
Surviving are her mother, Margaret Alves of Henderson; a sister, Judy (Alves) Watson of Evansville; two brothers, Robert Alves of Henderson and Charles Alves of Evansville; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Henderson, the Rev. Robert Esters officiating, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Evansville.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at W.A. Gaines Funeral Home and from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Melissa Whitehair
MOUNT VERNON, Ind. — Melissa A. “Missy” Whitehair, 19, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in
Morristown, Ariz. Her unborn infant, Bernard James Whitehair-Colvin, also died in the accident.
She was a 1998 graduate of Mount Vernon High School.
She attended Christian Fellowship Church.
She enjoyed camping, music, white-water rafting and fishing.
Surviving are her mother and stepfather, Janet “Jan” and Steve Roberts of Mount Vernon; her father, Fred “Rusty” Whitehair of Evansville; a sister, Katelynn Ernst of Mount Vernon; a stepsister, Janelle Roberts of Mooresville; a brother, Ryan Ernst of Cannelton; her grandparents, Fred and Ruby Whitehair and Betty Donley; her great-grandmother; a niece; and her companion and father of the unborn infant, Chris Colvin.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park, both in Evansville.
Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Verna Garrett
OWENS-VILLE, Ind. — Verna Mae Garrett, 86, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital.
She was a member of the
Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Owensville.
Surviving are a son, Noel V. of Gambrills, Md.; a sister, Leona Matz of Owensville; two brothers, Albert and Darrell White, both of Owensville; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Darrell O., died in 1977.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holder Funeral Home, with burial in Maumee Cemetery.

Dorothy Cherry
JASPER, Ind. — Dorothy Cherry, 76, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Loogootee Nursing Center in Loogootee.
She was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars 673 Auxiliary.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Schneider of Indianapolis; a son, Tim of Loogootee; a brother, Raymond Kuebler of Jasper; and four grandchildren, Kyle, Zachary, Adam and Nicholas Schneider.
Her husband, Earl. W., died in 1994.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. today at Precious Blood Catholic Church, with entombment in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum.

Lethel Showers
FORT BRANCH, Ind. — Lethel J. (Poole) Showers, 72, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at her home of cancer.
She had worked as a secretary for six years at Fort Branch High School and then for 12 years at Gibson Southern High School, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of Fort Branch Presbyterian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars 2714 Ladies Auxiliary and the Fort Branch Eastern Star.
Surviving are her husband, Jerauld “Buster”; two daughters, Lynne Roberts of Miami and Carla Jochim of Owensville; a son, Ralph “Bud” of Kokomo; and six grandchildren, Adam Paul, Lynnsey, Lauren and Russell Showers and Tyler and Todd Roberts.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Stodghill Funeral Home, with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Deaconess/Ohio Valley Hospice.

Floyd Ricketts
MOUNT VERNON, Ind. — Floyd Ricketts, 80, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.
He retired in 1984 from Mount Vernon Milling Co. after 37 years of service.
He was a member of Harvestime Temple.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy B. (Strean); two daughters, Sharon Ricketts of New Harmony and Kathy Hatch of Mount Vernon; three sons, Marvin of Wadesville, Gerald of New Harmony and Kenneth of Glendale, Ky.; a sister, Ora Ricketts of Arkansas; two brothers, Edgar of Mount Vernon and Harold of Rockford, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Floyd Jr.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Boone Funeral Home Mount Vernon Chapel, with burial in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m .Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Infant Nathan Heisler
TELL CITY, Ind. — Nathan M. Heisler, infant son of Lori Heisler, was stillborn Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
Services will be private, with burial today in Greenwood Cemetery.
Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Everett Rogier
TELL CITY, Ind. — Everett A. Rogier, 84, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System in Owensboro, Ky.
He retired from Tell City Chair Co. in 1978 after 33 years of service. He also operated Dave’s Place in Leopold from 1978 to 1980.
He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Dolly (Howe); a daughter, Mary Lou Williams of Leopold; a son, Raymond of Grandview; a brother, Victor of Greenville, Ky.; five grandchildren, Tina Boyd, Tim and Terry Rogier and Shane and Wesley Williams; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Leopold, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 9 a.m. Monday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City.

Dora Wira
WINSLOW, Ind. — Dora F. Wira, 85, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Petersburg Health Care Center in Petersburg.
She was a member of Winslow General Baptist Church.
Surviving are a sister, Georgia Beadles of Princeton; and nieces and nephews.
Her husband, John, died in 1978.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Curtis Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Clara Clark
MOUNT VERNON, Ind. — Clara Clark, 72, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis.
She had worked for the Mount Vernon Metropolitan School District in the cafeteria, for the city of Mount Vernon as a meter maid, for Blakley’s Shoe Store and for the Dollar Store.
She was a member of the Church of God Mission in Mount Vernon.
Surviving are a daughter, Terri L. Riecken of New Harmony; three sons, Berl Kenneth Jr. of Fairview Heights, Ill., and Howard “Sonny” and Thomas W., both of Mount Vernon; a brother, James Howard Ross of Clarksville, Tenn.; grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Berl “Bud”, died in 1984.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Boone Funeral Home Mount Vernon Chapel, with burial in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Infant Cody Willman
MOUNT VERNON, Ind. — Cody David Willman, infant son of William “Bill” Willman and Shannon Masterson of Posey County, died at birth Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
Also surviving are his grandparents, Mike and Sharon Willman of Mount Vernon and Rita and Bart Masterson of Evansville; his great-grandparents; and his great-great-grandmother.
Services will be private at Boone Funeral Home Mount Vernon Chapel.

Robert Street
VINCENNES, Ind. — Robert W. “Bob” Street, 65, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at his home of cancer.
He was self-employed as a carpenter.
Surviving are his wife, Elaine; two daughters, Kelli Roberts of Vincennes and Pam Chesser of Terre Haute; two sons, Chip and Rick, both of Vincennes; his stepfather, Tom Gleason of Vincennes; four sisters, Donna Coomer, Mary McKinley, Jean Sanneman and Carol Eubank, all of Vincennes; a brother, James of Vincennes; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Goodwin Funeral Home, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Remus Schuler
JASPER, Ind. — Remus O. Schuler, 80, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Huntingburg Convalescent Center in Huntingburg.
He had owned and operated Schuler Welding & Repair Co. in Jasper.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the church’s Men’s Society, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars 673, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 147 and the Antique Steam & Gas Engine Club Inc. of Boonville.
Surviving are his wife, Eileen; two daughters, Cheryl Wilmes of Ferdinand and Janet Lechner of Jasper; four sons, David and Kenneth, both of Jasper, Reginald of Chandler and James of Ireland; six sisters, Venita Fleck, Dora Bickwermert, Arlene Semersheim and Lou Anna Schuler, all of Jasper, Leola Heeke of Dubois and Julie Kunkler of St. Anthony; two brothers, Thomas of Jasper and Lloyd of Concord, Calif.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m., at Becher & Kluesner Funeral Home Downtown Chapel.

Doris Reppel
MADISONVILLE, Ky. — Doris Reppel, 62, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at NHC Healthcare Nursing Home. She had suffered from multiple sclerosis.
Surviving are her husband, Fred A.; her father, Jacob Kasper of Evansville, Ind.; a sister, Judy O’Rouke of Madisonville; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at a later date at Light’s-Eagan Funeral Home in New Orleans, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery #1, also in New Orleans.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Perley Owen
BROUGHTON, Ill. — Perley Glen Owen, 82, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at his home.
He was a retired tool repairman for Babcock & Wilcox Co. in Mount Vernon, Ind., and had also worked for the Indiana Farm Bureau.
He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Seabees.
He was a member of McLeansboro American Legion Post 106, Carmi Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Broughton Masonic Lodge 963 for 57 years.
He was Protestant.
Surviving are his wife, Opal D.; three daughters, Geraldine Barker of Broughton, Leona Reed of Crete and Virgie Ledford of Shorewood; a son, Joseph of Orchardville; four sisters, Essie Graham, Myrtle McDonald and Irene Partain, all of Broughton, and Genevieve Jones of Dixon; three brothers, Harvey of Clinton, Mich., Claude of Broughton and Wilburn of Finley; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Gholson Funeral Home McLeansboro Chapel, with burial in Hickory Hill Cemetery in Broughton, with military rites.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Gerald Mullen
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. — Gerald “Red” Mullen, 86, formerly of Marion, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at his home.
He had owned and operated Mullen Road Boring.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Corps of Engineers in Alaska.
He was a 55-year member of Bridgeport Masonic Lodge, a 50-year member of Ainad Shrine Temple in Danville and was a member of the Elks 1208.
He was Methodist.
Surviving are two daughters, Sheryl Strange of rural Bridgeport and Bobbie Blackburn of Fort Myers, Fla.; a brother, Harry Jr. of Patoka; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Tom.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home, with burial in Cresthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to hospice.

Rev. Wilson Rister
ELDORADO, Ill. — The Rev. Wilson Rister, 76, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg.
He was a farmer. He had also been a minister for more than 40 years and was a founder of Camp Oxford youth camp.
He was a member of Emmanuel General Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mary (Davis); a stepdaughter, Mary Ann Curry of Eldorado; three sons, Bill, Richard and Ivan, all of Harrisburg; four stepsons, Robert Davis of Eldorado, Mike and William Davis, both of Harrisburg, and Paul Davis of Omaha; a sister, Reta Awalt of Batavia; two brothers, Adrian of Harrisburg and Eugene of Broughton; six grandchildren, Tammy Basham, Sherie McCormick and Matthew, Rachael, Pam and Zachary Rister; 10 stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
His first wife, Eva, died in 1990.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Watson Funeral Home, with burial in Lindale Cemetery.
