Ivan Hooe
Ivan D. Hooe, 86, of Evansville, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Holiday Health Care.
He had worked for 32 years in air-conditioning and refrigeration maintenance at Mead Johnson, retiring in 1975.
He served with General Patton’s 3rd Army as a sergeant in field artillery in France, Germany and Central Europe, was the recipient of four Bronze Stars and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1114.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Florence G.; a daughter, Alanna Welch of Marion, Ky.; a son, Alan of Evansville; three grandchildren, Tammy K. Claude and Nickolas E. and Stephanie R. Hooe; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park, with military rites.

Irene Peters
Irene A. Peters, 84, of Newburgh, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Surviving are a son, Jeff of Portland Ore.; three stepsons, Jerry of Honolulu, Hawaii, Jim of Monroe, Conn., and Mike of Addison, Ill.; a sister, Jeanette Barnett of Owensboro, Ky.; a granddaughter, Maren Peters; and six stepgrandchildren, Dr. Anita Gorsuch, Sheryl, Greg, Brian, Ken and Steve Peters.
Her husband, Oscar H. died in 1968.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Rev. John Breidenbach officiating, with burial Friday at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield, Ill.

Laura Smith Bradley, 78, of Evansville, died Sunday in New Albany, Ind., at the Green Valley Care Center.
She was a member of the Harrison Street Baptist Church in Paducah, Ky.
Surviving are a son, Paul Crider of Milwaukee, Wis.; and a niece who cared for her, Raelene Lovelace of Evansville.
Her husband, James, preceded her in death.

Naomi Myers
VINCENNES, Ind. — Naomi A. Myers, 79, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Gentle Care Nursing Home.
She had worked as a home health aide for Preferred Home Health Care, as a receptionist at the Indiana Workforce Development Office and as an assistant at Harbor House.
She was a 20-year member of RSVP and named Knox County Senior Services Queen, in 1988.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Geisweit of Vincennes; two sons, Charles of Crossville, Tenn., and Thomas of Vincennes; two sisters, Beatrice Hall of Joliet, Ill., and Violet Meadows of Winslow; two brothers, Ralph Johnson of Glennie, Mich., and Earl Johnson of Apache Junction, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Ashley, died in 1964 and a daughter, Josephine Burton, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 1:30 p..m. Wednesday at Goodwin Funeral Home, with burial in Wilson Creek Cemetery in Knox County.

W. Cledus Stites
ODON, Ind. — W. Cledus Stites, 79, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at his home.
He was co-founder and secretary of the White River Valley Antique Association, former Daviess County Republican councilman, Madison Township precinct committeeman, former federal crop inspector and West Boggs Park board member.
He was a graduate of Wheatland High School.
He was deacon and trustee of Elnora Christian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Vera A. (Prather); a daughter, Rita Jane Melsheimer of Vincennes; two sons, Kenneth Lee of Parker City and Carl William of Odon; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Elnora Christian Church, with burial in Sugarland Memory Gardens.

Deon Nowak
BOONVILLE, Ind. — Deon “Gary” Nowak, 60, of Newburgh, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, of cancer at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
He operated Deon’s Hair Salon in Newburgh and was a member of Fitness World in Evansville.
He was a soccer coach for the adult league and taught youth league soccer in Newburgh. He was a Navy veteran, where he was a boxer. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Evansville.
Surviving are three daughters, Diane Jones of Taylor, Mich., Darlynn Starr Wosyluk of South Daytona, Fla., and Kacey B. Nowak of Newburgh; a son, Lonnie of Indiana; a sister, Lorelei Govier of Michigan; and three grandchildren, Nicole Nowak and Tommy John and Taylor Marie Wosyluk.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel, with burial in Selvin Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3418.

TELL CITY, Ind. — Bettye Kilian, 73, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center in Newburgh, Ind.
She retired from the General Electric Co. in Tell City.
Surviving are two daughters, Vicki Tuggle of Troy and Cheryl Goffinet of Orlando, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Barbara Strobel and Judy Morgan, both of Tell City; a son, Terry “Butch” Howe of Evansville; four sisters, Henrietta Silverthorn, Ruth Horsley, Edith Walters and Joan Berg; three brothers, Harry, Bill and Jim Labhart; 10 grandchildren, Jill Braun, Troy, Chris and Tony Tuggle, Tim and Mark Goffinet, Shawn Howe, Shannon Etienne, Rachel Gladish and Angela Cox; four stepgrandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman Howe, her second husband, William Kilian, and a stepson, Scott Kilian.

He had been a coal miner with the Island Creek Coal Co. Fies Mine and member of the United Mine Workers District 23.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the European Theater.
He was a member of the Madisonville First Baptist Church.

She was an elementary school teacher for 35 years, 19 years in one-room schools. Surviving are two daughters, Alice Horton of Fairfield and Marie Brockett of Norris City; a son, James of Watseka; a brother, Earl Smith of Oakland; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her husband, Alva. died in 1975.

Connie Kain
Connie L. Kain, 63, of Evansville, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital from complications of cancer.
She had served as president of the Children’s Theater and the U-ACE Swim Club, vice-president and director emeritus of the Evansville Freedom Festival board of directors, president of the Zoological Society and board member of the Zoological Foundation. She was a volunteer at WNIN and served as their auction manager for several years. She was active in the Republican Party, serving as Fifth Ward precinct committeeman.
She was a member of the Burdette Park board of directors and Vanderburgh Auditorium board. She was a graduate of Leadership Evansville.
She was a member of the St. Benedict Parish, Evansville Museum Society, Reitz Home Guild, Kennel Club and past member of Oak Meadow Country Club.
Surviving are her husband of 42 years, Todd; two sons, Alan of Atlanta, and Kevin of Evansville; a brother, Gary Allen of Monroe, Ind.; a granddaughter, Erin; and nieces and nephews.
Her daughter Becky died in 1965.
Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 9 a.m. at St. Benedict Cathedral, the Rev. Gregory Chamberlin officiating, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Lionel John Libbert, 89, of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Newburgh, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
He had worked with the federal government for 40 years in payroll accounting, auditing, real estate management and disposal, He was the recipient of the Meritorious Achievement Award for outstanding performance in converting payroll accounting from manual to machine operation.
He was elder emeritus and member of the board of the Kenwood Heights Christian Church.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Ruth; a daughter, Jeri Barnstable of Louisville; a sister, Kathryn L. Freels of Evansville; a brother, Charles Pershing Libbert of Holland, Mich.; and two grandchildren, Sherri Steiber and Charles Henne.

His wife, Pearl, died in 1987.

Sister Mary Gerald Messmer, 78, formerly of Evansville, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Our Lady of Grace Monastery in Beech Grove, Ind.
She had taught school, from 1951 to 1964 in several locations, including St. Benedict in Evansville, in Boonville, Ind., Rockport, Ind., and had been the food service supervisor at St. Paul Heritage in Beech Grove for 26 years, retiring in 1990.
Surviving are six sisters, Sister Mary Carol Messmer of Beech Grove, Clara Boeckman of Ferdinand, Roberta Weyer of Ireland, Therese Paulin of Siberia, Carol Stedfeldt of Hayesville, and Jeanne Hefner of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and two brothers, Peter and Gerald Messmer, both of Jasper.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Grace Monastery, with burial in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery.
