William Francis “Bill” Sanders, 86, of Evansville, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital.
He was a welder for Wayne Supply and a member of Bible Center Cathedral.
Surviving are a daughter, Grace E. Fisher of Evansville; three sons, William “Bill” Jr. of Mount Carmel, Ill., James “Jim” of Evansville and Frederick “Freddie”; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
His wife, Virginia, died in 1979.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Darwin Short
OWENSVILLE, Ind. — Darwin M. Short, 60, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Gibson General Hospital from a heart attack.
He was an Army veteran.
He taught adult Bible class at the First General Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Louise (France); and a niece and nephew.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holder Funeral Home, with burial in Owensville Cemetery.

Edward Parker Sr.
TELL CITY, Ind. — Edward D. Parker Sr., 55, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at his home of cancer.
He retired in 1999 from Indiana-Michigan Power in Rockport after 30 years as an equipment operator. He was a Vietnam War Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Marilyn (Jewell); two sons, Edward D. Jr. of Evansville and George of Indianapolis; his mother, Clara Mae Lindsey of Rockwood, Tenn.; seven sisters, Patricia Shane of Langsville, Lynn McCullough and Melanie Herrin, both of Rockwood, Tammy Kellogg of Denver, Colo., Judy Hendricks of Canoe, Texas, Melody Fellows of Mineral Wells, Texas, and Lisa Lindsey of Atlanta; two brothers, Jerry Goen of Oak Harbor, Wash., and David Miles of Albuquerque, N.M.; and a granddaughter, Abigail Parker.
An infant daughter, Maria, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Wednesday at Huber Funeral Home Tell City Chapel, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, with military rites.

Bertus McMurtry
OAKLAND CITY, Ind. — Bertus McMurtry, 97, died Sunday, Nov, 7, 1999, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
He and his late wife, Freda (Parke) had owned and operated a grocery store in Spurgeon for 12 years and one in Oakland City for 20 years.
He was a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Carmeleta Zenthoefer of Mount Carmel, Ill.; four grandchildren, Anita Green, Roger, Mike and Tony Zenthoefer; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home, with burial in Montgomery Cemetery.

Laura Lucas
BRUCEVILLE, Ind. — Laura L. Lucas, 84, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.
She was a member of the Bruceville Christian Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Lucille Hallett of Las Vegas and Billie Abbott of Vincennes; two sons, William Jr. of Vincennes and Dale of Indianapolis; a sister, Gladys Fields of Vincennes; 21 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Her husband, William, a daughter, a son and her twin sister preceded her in death.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. EST Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home Bruceville Chapel, with burial in the Bruceville Cemetery.

Doris Wood
PETERSBURG, Ind. — Doris Ellen Wood, 81, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.
She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are a daughter, Pam Madden of St. Francisville, Ill., a son, Don of Owensville; three sisters, Irene Burton, Edna Dyke and Nellie Ann Potter, all of Vincennes; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Her husband, Harley, died in 1989.
Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Wednesday at Goodwin Funeral Home, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Marion Thomas
HENDERSON, Ky. — Marion Paul “P.T.” Thomas, 77, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evanville.
He had taught carpentry at the Henderson Vocational School and served on the vocational advisory committee.
He was a past member of the Henderson County school board, past president of Kentucky Elks Association, past secretary of the Elks Lodge, member of the Henderson Country Club, serving as treasurer of the Men’s Association.
He coached the Henderson All-Star Little League, which won the State World Series and played in the National Playoffs. He was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame for his contribution to the Little League organization.
He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Temple and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred R.; a daughter, Patricia Hogan of Henderson; a stepdaughter, Sandy Haynes of Henderson; a son, Michael of Morganfield; a stepson, Steven Schwallier of Henderson; a sister, Evelyn Brown of Evansville; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, with burial in Fernwood Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 am. to service time at the funeral home.

Sonny Bryant
HENDERSON, Ky. — Sonny “Cagey” Bryant, 59, of Spottsville, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, in an automobile accident on U.S. 60.
He was a member of the Elks 206 in Henderson. He was a Kentucky Colonel.
Surviving are two stepsons, Randy Rousseau of Florida and Danny Daughtery of Henderson; a sister, Jolene Buley of Henderson; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, with burial pending.

Bill Rone
SACRAMENTO, Ky. — Bill Rone, 72, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at his home of an apparent heart attack.
He retired after 36 years from the Texas Gas Transmission Corp. of Owensboro and was the owner and operator of the Sacramento Pay Lake.
He was a member of the Sacramento Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Kathryn (Moorman); four daughters, Karen Kirtley of Bowling Green, Sandra Rone of Owensboro, Mary Rone Nally and Allison Rone Phillips, both of Sacramento; three sons, Ronald and Steven, both of Owensboro, and William of Sacramento; four sisters, Adeen Miller of Sacramento, Carol Rone and Jana Detiz, both of Owensboro, and Fran Raymer of Dophan, Ala.; three brothers, Donald and George, both of Owensboro, and Bobby of Kershaw, S.C.; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sacramento Baptist Church, with burial in Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time at the church.

Daisy Powers
HAWESVILLE, Ky. — Daisy Powers, 82, formerly of Hawesville, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at the Heartland Villa in Lewisport.
She was the former owner of the Kentucky Cardinal Restaurant and had worked at the Breeze Inn Restaurant, Kozy Kitchen Restaurant and Bill’s IGA in Hawesville.
She was a member of the Central Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Johnnie; a daughter, Emma Jean Jasper of Tell City, Ind.; three sons, Billy Joe, Pascal and Gary, all of Hawesville; a sister, Eva Ellen Meserve of Hawesville; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, with burial in Serenity Hills.

Paul Hagan
WAVERLY, Ky. — Paul M. “Dude” Hagan, 79, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Oct. 31.
He was the co-owner and operator of Hagan’s Market in Waverly for 45 years.
He was a World War II Army veteran and member of the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Louise; three daughters, Nancy Crump and Helene French, both of Morganfield, and Rita Mills of Waverly; two sons, Kenny of Detroit and Raymond of Waverly; a sister, Loretta Girten of Henderson; two brothers, Joe and Billy of Waverly; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the Whitsell Funeral Home.

Jimmie James
MORTONS GAP, Ky. — Jimmie James, 91, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at the Senior Citizens Nursing Home in Madisonville.
He retired from the Iron & Wire Works in Chicago.
He was a member of the Salem Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Jo (Prince); four daughters, Barbara Woodyard of Valparaiso, Ind., Sharon Lloyd of Greenville, Marie James of Mortons Gap and Joann Downs of Barnsley; a sister, Edna Morgan of Madisonville; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Reid-Walters Funeral Home Earlington Chapel, with burial in Grapevine Cemetery in Madisonville.

Jon Eric Wilson
HENDERSON, Ky. — Jon Eric Wilson, 35, formerly of Henderson, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System in Houston. He had liver disease.
Surviving are his wife, Diane; his father, Matt Wilson Sr. of Las Vegas; a sister, Tamara Gentry of Henderson; two brothers, Brian K. of Evansville and Matt Jr. of Henderson; his grandmother, Lillie West; and nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held. Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Betty Hershberger
MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. — Betty Lou (Beckerman) Hershberger, 77, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Wabash General Hospital.
Since 1984, she had owned and operated Betty’s Shop in Mount Carmel and retired as an inspector for Snap-On Tools.
She was a member of the First Church of God.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Goodson and Betty Louise Taylor, both of Mount Carmel; four brothers, Robert Beckerman of Anderson, Ind., Raymond Beckerman of Downey, Calif., Virgil Beckerman of Princeton, Ind., and William Beckerman of Mount Carmel; seven grandchildren, Tonya Murphy, Anthony, Jarrod and Damon Banks, J.R. and Mark Goodson and Stephen Taylor; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Church of God in Mount Carmel, with burial in Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Infant Sally Hutson
ELIZABETHTOWN, Ill. — Sally Mariah Hutson, daughter of Susan Atkinson and Jeffrey Hutson, both of Elizabethtown, was stillborn Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Ky.
Also surviving are a sister, Emillee Atkinson of Rosiclare; her grandparents, Richard Pool of Elizabethtown and Nancy and Larry E. Hutson; and great-grandparents.
Graveside services were Monday in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Golconda.

Shandra Winchester
STONEFORT, Ill. — Shandra Kay Winchester, 17, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at her home of cancer.
She was a senior at Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School and attended several churches.
Surviving are her mother and stepfather, Cindy and Jerry Gulley of Stonefort; her father and stepmother, Mark and Michele Winchester of Sandwich; two stepsisters, Jennifer Hartley of Sandwich and Dezrea Culley of Stonefort; a brother, Troy of Stonefort; a stepbrother, Jeremy Gulley of Stonefort; her grandfathers, Don Winchester and Dale Milligan; and a niece.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Felty Funeral Home Carrier Mills Chapel, with burial in the Trammell Cemetery in Stonefort.

WAYNE CITY, Ill. — Jerry Meritt, 60, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at his home of an apparent heart attack.
He was co-owner of Quality Trucking.
He was an active member and trustee of Bailey Arrington Prairie General Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Kay; a daughter, Kristie Meritt of Wayne City; two sons, Kendall and Kerry, both of Wayne City; a half brother, Virgil Simpson of Marion; and a grandson, Zachery Meritt.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bailey Arrington Prairie General Baptist Church, with burial in Thomason Cemetery.

Opal Bailey
CISNE, Ill. — Opal V. Bailey, 84, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Cisne Health Care Center.
She retired as a nurse’s aide.
She was a member of the Cisne Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Phyllis Weaver of Belleville and Brenda Hoover of Indianapolis; four sons, Elmer of Cisne, Gary of Wayne City, Marvin of Dover Hill, Ind., and Len of Belleville; a brother, Lawrence of Mount Vernon; 18 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Woodrow, died in 1967.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Bailey Arrington Prairie Baptist Church, with burial in the Bailey Cemetery.

Sarah Mabry
Sarah (Gann) Mabry, 65, of Newburgh, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, of complications due to diabetes.
She retired from Sears Roebuck after 30 years as a sales associate.
She was a 40-year member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church and a member of Daughters of the Nile 41.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandy Porth of Chandler, Ind., and Pat Elrod of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister, Betty Saum of Evansville; a brother, H.K. Gann of Newburgh; and four grandchildren, Kelly and Bryan Porth, Matty Mabry and Jake Elrod.
Her husband, Bill, died in 1995 and a son, Jim, died in 1994.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Jesse Gann officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.

Elmer Williams
Elmer Louis Williams, 62, of Evansville, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of complications of diabetes.
He retired from Peabody Coal Co.’s Lynnville Mine after 20 years and was a member of Local 9926.
He was an Army veteran.
He was a deacon, trustee and superintendent of Sunday school at the Mount Liberty Baptist Church in Boonville.
Surviving are two daughters, Lisa Ann and Lori Rena Williams, both of Evansville; a son, Jason Louis of Evansville; his mother, Dorothy Williams of Evansville; three sisters, Christine Love of Racine, Wis., and Kathy Chaney and Yvonne Mockobee, both of Evansville; three brothers, Albert and Richard, both of Evansville, and Charles of Racine; and a grandchild, Jo Anna Rena Shane.
His wife, JoAnn (Payne), died in 1997.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Liberty Baptist Church, the Revs. Carl Walker and Larry K. Payne officiating, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Retired Veterans Memorial Club.

John Merta
John E. Merta, 69, of Evansville, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of respiratory failure.
He had owned and operated the Rosedale Market for 20 years.
He was a Korean War veteran and member of the American Legion Eugene Pate Post 265.
He was a member of St. Lucas United Church of Christ.
Surviving are his daughter, Lynn Kemp of Corydon, Ky.; a sister, Joyce Bateman of Evansville; and nieces and nephews.
His wife, Marilyn, died in 1995.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Alexander Memorial Park, the Rev. Thomas F. Webster officiating.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. today at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Larry Winstead
Larry Lee Winstead, 49, of Evansville, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at the Murfreesboro Veterans Affairs Hospital of cancer.
He had worked as a merchant marine for several years. He also worked on riverboats and had a ship pilot’s license.
Surviving are a daughter, Katherine R. Nussbaum of Hawaii; his parents, Robert K. and Elsie A. Winstead of Evansville; a brother, Charles E. of Boonville; and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
There will be no visitation at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel.

Janet McGraw
Janet Kathryn McGraw, 60, of Evansville, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at her home of cancer.
She had worked at Marshall’s for 13 years.
Surviving are a daughter, Sara Hinsey of Evansville; a son, Michael W. of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Alvina Hall of Evansville and Joyce Kingsbury of Lynnville, Ind.; a brother, Gary Vaal of Indianapolis; and three grandchildren, Derek, Renee and Jeffrey Hinsey.
Her husband, Richard G., died in 1998.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Rev. William M. Schwenk officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.

J. Elizabeth Foster
J. Elizabeth Foster, 19, of Evansville, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, in an automobile accident in Indianapolis.
She was a runway and hand model for Manhattan Modeling in Indianapolis and had worked as a model in California. She appeared on several television commercials, in the movie “Kindergarten Cop” and in a film that was presented at the Cannes Film Festival.
She was a regional champion roller skater in Orange County, Calif., and recently a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Head Start.
Surviving are her mother, Nan Foster of Evansville; her father, Charles Foster; a sister, Jessica Foster of Evansville; a brother, Michael Foster of Fullerton, Calif.; and her fiance, Rich Garmen of Indianapolis.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Alexander Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, Bishops Mark Lamers and Jorge Reyes officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.
