Rev. Ernest Strahl
The Rev. Ernest R. Strahl, 81, brother of Dorothy Schneider of Evansville, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, in St. Paul’s Hermitage in Beech Grove, Ind.
He retired as pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon, Ind., in 1989, after 28 years.
He also served at St. Patrick and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic churches in Indianapolis, and at St. Mark, St. Joseph and St. John Catholic churches in Perry County, Ind.
He was ordained at St. Meinrad in 1945 and served his first mass in St. Augustine Catholic Church in Leopold, Ind.
He was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He had made and given away over six thousand rosaries through the years.
Also surviving is a sister, Augusta Rogier of Tell City, Ind.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Paul’s Hermitage Chapel in Indianapolis. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon, with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Corydon.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. today till service time at St. Paul Catholic Church, from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church in Corydon.

Alexander Pellow
Alexander Pellow, 92, of Evansville, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
He had worked in the coal mines for 19 years, as a painter in Fort Campbell, Ky., and as an electrician at the Evansville Shipyards. He was a member of Local 16 for 55 years.
He had a retail bread route for 13 years, was maintenance supervisor at deJong’s for three years and was co-manager with his wife of Filter Queen Corp. for 20 years, retiring in 1973.
He was a former trustee of the Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, where he was a member for 52 years. He was a 72-year member of the Masons and life member of Hazel Creek Lodge in Hazel Creek, Ky.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Schornhorst of Evansville; two sons, Dave of San Antonio, Texas, and Don of Evansville; 11 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
His first wife, Ruby, and his second wife, Lucille, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Terry Bamberger
Terry Gene Bamberger, 55, of Evansville, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at his home of heart failure.
He worked for the Tennessean Restaurant and Qualex Inc.
He was Baptist.
He was a past member of the Tri-State and Evansville beagle clubs.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Phyllis; a brother, Jack Keeney of Evansville; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel, the Rev. James Payne officiating, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Grace Osborn
Grace M. Osborn, 80, of Evansville, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at her home.
She attended the Assembly of God Church.
Surviving are a son, Joe Mullins of Evansville; a sister, Claudia Powers of Evansville; grandchildren, including McAtee A. Dubois and Larry Joe Bates; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a friend of 15 years who cared for her, Alan E. Weber.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Locust Hill Cemetery Chapel, the Rev. Bud Hales officiating, with burial in Locust Hill Cemetery.

Cora Bozeman
Cora F. Bozeman, 83, of Evansville, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at her home.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Euvenice Sunday School Class.
Surviving are a son, Robert Michael of Evansville; a sister, Marie Horlock of Evansville; three grandchildren, Debra Deig, and Darla and Danny Bozeman; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Robert H., died in 1977.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh.

Katherine Pfender
Katherine Pfender, 88, of Evansville, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital.
She last worked at Holiday Nursing Home in housekeeping.
She was a member of the Bethany Christian Church, White Shrine Bethlehem Chapter, the Owls Ladies Auxiliary and Easter Star 87.
Surviving are stepchildren; a sister, Charlotte Korff of Evansville; stepgrandchildren; and a niece who cared for her, Debbie Lawson of Evansville.
Her husband, Elmer, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, the Rev. Will Jewsbury officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.

Helen Gordon
Helen L. “Mammy G” Gordon, 74, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Angel River Health and Convalescent Center of a stroke.
She retired from George Koch Sons after 24 years at Plant 4 in the packing department.
She enjoyed traveling and watching her son race at the Greater Chandler Raceway.
Surviving are a daughter, Charlene Laughary Boes of Evansville; a son, Larry of Evansville; and four grandchildren, Dwayne and Robert Gordon, Larry Scott Porter and Brad Laughary.
Her husband, Charles P., died in 1988.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Robert A. Nall officiating, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Fujiko Stoffer
Fujiko T. Stoffer, 71, of Evansville, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at St. Mary’s Health Care Services/Welborn Campus of heart failure.
She was Buddhist.
Surviving are her husband, William; five sisters, all of Japan; two grandchildren, Crystal and Casey Snyder; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Revella Wilm
Revella V. Wilm, 93, of Evansville, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
She was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church and past member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary A. Ogg of Evansville; a son, Gene of Evansville; 11 grandchildren, Randell Ogg, Tamara Galvin, Susan Lozier, Jane Belwood, Jeanne Heeb, Karen Esche, Kathy Boothe, Susan Miller, Edward, Gregory and Jeffrey Wilm; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Matthew, died in 1978.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, Monsignor Kenneth Knapp officiating, with burial in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Haubstadt.

Donald West
Donald Gene West, 47, of Evansville, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital of heart failure.
He worked for Whirlpool Corp. and attended Bible Center Cathedral.
Surviving are a sister, Bettina Joyce Haltiwanger of North Charleston, S.C.; two brothers, John of Evansville and Gaither Glennis II of Goose Creek, S.C.; and nephews.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Tom Savage officiating, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Troy Boggess
Troy D. Boggess, 79, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
He had worked at Anchor Industries and at Swift and Co.
He was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Evansville.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Dorothy; two daughters, Brenda S. Higgins of Sebree, Ky., and Donna M. Cottingham of Henderson, Ky.; two sisters, Floy Hornbeck of Paducah, Ky., and Lilelo Cope of Golden Pond, Ky.; eight grandchildren, Lawrence, Earl, Jean, James and Jeff Higgins, and Jerrod, Nathan and Bret Cottingham; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Dorris J. Greer and Mary J. Boggess.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, the Rev. Jack Feldbusch officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.

Ruth Gilmore
MOUNT VERNON, Ind. — Ruth Gilmore, 80, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, in Santa Fe, N.M.
She was on the board of directors and was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon. She was a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital and the Mount Vernon Food Pantry.
Surviving are a daughter, Robin Deifenbach of Edgewood, N.M.; her son, Tim of Santa Fe; three grandchildren, Patrick, Jessica and Sunshine; and two great-grandsons.
Her body was cremated.
Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon, with a dinner reception following at the church. Santa Fe Funeral Options is handling arrangements.

Ernest Wright
CYNTHIANA, Ind. — Ernest D. Wright, 70, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Allison Nursing Home of heart failure.
Surviving are a daughter, Vicki Wright of Russellville; three sons, Ricky, Terry and Danny, all of Russellville; a sister, Juanita Violett of Hueytown, Ala.; and a brother, Willie of Cynthiana.
Services will be at noon today at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, the Rev. Charles Gordon officiating, burial is pending.

Olentis Sullivan
PETERSBURG, Ind. — Olentis (Lynn) Sullivan, 80, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis of cancer.
Surviving are two sons, Gary L. of Petersburg and Charles “Butch” of Campbelltown; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. EST Thursday at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Pike County.
Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Curtis Funeral Home in Winslow.

Bert Murphy Sr.
TELL CITY, Ind. — Bert T. Murphy Sr., 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.
He had worked at Lehman Co. of America in Cannelton until it burned in 1946, was a miner at Mulzer Coal in Spencer County and was a self-employed aluminum siding and Bedford stone installer. He retired in 1980 from Anchor Industries in Evansville.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He raised horses and goats.
Surviving are two daughters, Lena Murphy of Tell City and Ruth Richardson of Owensboro, Ky.; a stepdaughter, Linda Williamson of South Carolina; a son, Bert Jr. of Tell City; two sisters, Lois Jones of Evansville and Grace Daugherty of Cadiz, Ky.; two brothers, Charles of Grandview and Cecil of Evansville; eight grandchildren, Michelle Greathouse, Pam Schaefer, Kim Jacob, Larry and Tim Cooper, Theresa Newton, Rodney Murphy and Lori Mann; four stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.
His wife, Mary F., died in 1990, and a son, Cecil, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. CST Thursday at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel in Evansville, with burial in Bethlehem United Church of Christ Cemetery in Evansville.
Friends may call from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. EST today at Huber Funeral Home in Tell City and from 11 a.m. CST to service time Thursday at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel in Evansville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Tell City.

Penny Wade
POSEYVILLE, Ind. — Penny Lee Wade, 55, formerly of Poseyville, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, Texas, from an equestrian accident.
She had been the director of Nursing at the Jan Werner Adult Day Care Center in Amarillo and a teacher’s aide in Grand Ledge, Mich. She was a 4-H Leader.
She was a 1965 graduate of Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing.
She was a member of the Polk Street United Methodist Church Aldersgate Sunday School class and the American Quarterhorse Association.
Surviving are her husband, the Rev. William J. “Bill” Wade; a daughter, Jennifer Lee Kelley of Mount Vernon, Ind.; a son, Todd Bennett Halpin of Evansville; her mother, Ella Fern Williams of Washington, Ind.; a brother, Jack Williams of Washington; and three grandchildren, Bradley and Lauren Roberts and Jordan Halpin.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, with burial in Poseyville Cemetery.

Altha Gipson
HENDERSON, Ky. — Altha Gipson, 90, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
She attended Hyland Baptist Church.
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Betty Cannon of Indianapolis; four stepsons, Will of Naples, Fla., Bailey of St. Petersburg, Fla., Joe of Greenwood and Harlan of Plainville, Ind.; two sisters, Lillian Chandler and Louise Yates, both of Henderson; stepgrandchildren; stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Wilson, died in 1994.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Tapp Funeral Home, with burial in Shady Grove Cemetery in Poole.

Virginia Lindle
STURGIS, Ky. — Virginia Lynch Lindle, 68, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Methodist Hospital in Morganfield of cancer.
She had been the co-owner of Lindle Brothers’ Grocery Store in Sturgis and she was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Poss; a son, Rance of Sturgis; a sister, Jean L. Kennemore of Mayfield; a grandchild; and nieces.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Whitsell Funeral Home, with burial in Pythian Ridge Cemetery.

Keith Brown
CORYDON, Ky. — Keith Michael “Mike” Brown, 39, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville. The death is being investigated by the Vanderburgh County coroner.
He worked for Rideout’s Wrecker Service.
Surviving are his wife, Judy; two daughters, Stacey and Tiffany Brown, both at home; his mother and stepfather, Elizabeth and David Williams of Poole; two brothers, Kenny of Niagara, Ky., and Alan of Indianapolis; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, burial is pending.

Nancy Mitchell
CLAY, Ky. — Nancy Mitchell, 97, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Woodlands Convalescent Center in Newburgh.
She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and the First Baptist Church in Clay.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Joe, died in 1971.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Vanover Funeral Home, with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Austin Adkins
MADISONVILLE, Ky. — Austin Adkins, 87, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center.
He was a farmer and had been a Hopkins County school bus driver.
He was a member of Silent Run Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Agnes; two daughters, Wanda Beeney of Madisonville and Glenda Vanmatre of Nebo; three sisters, Rosie Walker of Madisonville, Laura Howton of Nebo and Frances Traylor of Princeton; a brother, James of Nebo; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Silent Run Baptist Church, with burial in Silent Run Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Melton Funeral Home and from noon to service time at the church.

Myrtle Ratley
HENDERSON, KY. — Myrtle Marie Ratley, 70, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at her home of cancer.
She attended the First Assembly of God.
Surviving are three daughters, Connie Sue Abell, and Dorothy Ann and Frances Gail Hager, all of Henderson; three sons, Rowdy Michael, J.Jay and Thomas Phillip, all of Henderson; a sister, Juanita Aldridge of Henderson; a brother, Curtis Donald Stone of St. Amant, La.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be private with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation at Tapp Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice.

Margaret Wyatt
MADISONVILLE, Ky. — Margaret Laffoon Wyatt, 66, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at her home. She had had the flu.
She was a receptionist at Madisonville Regional Medical Center.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Earlington and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5480 Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are two sons, Robert C. and Thomas W., both of Madisonville; two sisters, Phyllis Knight and Julia Hogan, both of Madisonville; and four grandchildren.
Her husband, Robert C. “Chatty,” and a daughter, Kellye Ann Wyatt, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery in Earlington.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Bessie Caron
MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. — Bessie L. Caron, 89, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Oakview Heights Nursing Home.
Surviving is a brother, John W. Arnold of Sunrise Beach, Texas.
Her husband, Ed, preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Allendale Cemetery.
