Dale Quigley
WEST SALEM, Ill. — Dale Quigley, 92, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.
He retired from the Illinois Highway Department and he was a farmer.
He was a member of the Marion Christian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth; a daughter, Kay Medler of West Salem; a sister, Clara Johnson of Olney; three grandchildren, Tami Nale, Tracie Shepherd and Cale Medler; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Nales Funeral Home in Albion, with burial in Marion Cemetery.

Henry Wallace
CROSSVILLE, Ill. — Henry J. Wallace, 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at White County Hospital in Carmi.
He had been the owner and operator of the Midwest Cement Pipeline Co. and the B&W Oilfield Testing Service. He pioneered the use of cement lining in oilfield pipes to prevent the corrosive effects of salt water.
He was a lieutenant in the Army, serving in World War II and the Korean War.
He had attended Northeastern State College in Oklahoma.
He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3851 and American Legion Post 224, was a life member and past president of the Wabash Valley Association, a member of White County Soil and Water Conservation District, Southern Illinois Lung Association, Route One Association, Southern Illinois Tourism, Civil War Round Table, and White County Historical Society and spoke throughout Southern Illinois about the heritage of White County. He was a Kentucky Colonel.
He was a supporter of the Boy Scouts and was a Silver Beaver.
Surviving are a son, Henry J. Jr.; a brother, Hugh “Red” of Okmulgee, Okla.; and nieces and nephews.
Military graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Little Wabash Cemetery. There will be no visitation at Campbell Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, or the historical society.
Gale Nuckolls
GRAYVILLE, Ill. — Gale Nuckolls, 88, of Keensburg, formerly of Grayville, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Wabash General Hospital in Mount Carmel.
He had co-owned and operated Lentz and Nuckolls Welding Co. in Grayville for 25 years.
He was an Army veteran.
He was a member of the Grayville Gun Club and had been honored as Sportsman of the Year in 1997. He was a member of the Hadi Shrine in Evansville, and life member of the Masons in New Harmony, Ind.
He was a fisherman and expert trap shooter.
Surviving are his children.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home Grayville Chapel, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Mary Culp
ROBINSON, Ill. — Mary Etta Culp, 72, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Crawford Memorial Hospital. She had Alzheimer’s disease.
She had worked for the Victor Dana Corp.
She was a member of the Assembly of God and Moose 1369 in Robinson.
Surviving are her husband, Wendell Homer; two daughters, Deborah D. Boyd and Winetta K. Wilson, both of Robinson; a son, Steven D. of Newton; a brother, Charles Tyler of Braidwood; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Pulliam Funeral Home, with burial in Casey-Cumberland Cemetery in Casey.

CARMI, Ill. — Edward Gerald Chilton, 83, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at his home.
He was a member of the Carmi Church of God.
Surviving are four daughters, Ruth Yates of Carmi, Freda Abbey of Herrin, Veda Parker of Carmi and Roberta Locus of Appaloosa, La.; a son, Gene Trout of Omaha; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline (Campbell), and a son, Bill Trout.

CARRIER MILLS, Ill. — Opal (Waltz) Castner, 81, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
She had worked as a waitress.
She attended Ledford Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth Angell of Harrisburg and Colene Littlefield of Rosiclare; a sister, Joann Brown of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Harold Ray and Richard Lee Hancock, Kenny Gene Littlefield and Leslie Anne Brown; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Two husbands preceded her in death, Leslie Waltz and Gordon Castner.

Florence Shelton
ALBION, Ill. — Florence E. Shelton, 85, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at her home.
She was a member of the First Christian Church.
There are no immediate survivors.
Her husband, Ernest, died in 1982.
The body was cremated.

Charles Carroll Sr.
Charles W. Carroll Sr., 71, of Evansville, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital of a heart attack.
He worked at Peter Healy Brass Laundry for more than 24 years and retired from Karges Furniture.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Edna; two sons, Charles W. Jr. and Fred A., both of Evansville; his mother, Coriene Carroll of Evansville; and four grandsons, Fred Jr., Jason, Dustin and Eric Carroll.

Lucille (Powers) Wilkins, 98, of Evansville, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at the McCurdy Healthcare Center.
She had worked at the Stove Works and at Servel.

She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1114 Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are a brother, Johnny Powers of Hawesville, Ky.; two granddaughters, Carolyn Epperson and Gordon Mayberry; and a great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis, in 1952; by two daughters, Athalene Sutton in 1981 and Faye Lambert in 1995; and by a son, Cecil Sanders, in 1985.

Gladys Winter
Gladys M. Winter, 69, of Munster, Ind., mother of Sandy Winter of Evansville, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, in Munster of respiratory failure.
She was past president of Illiana Chapter of Hadassah, a member of Congregation Beth Israel and past president of the Temple Sisterhood.
Also surviving are her husband of 48 years, J. Ernest; a daughter, Debbie Shetkel of Madison, Wis.; a son, Marc of Carmel, Ind.; and seven grandchildren, Ali, Sara, Samantha, Chris, Megan and Brian Winter and Stav Shetkel.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Burns-Kish Funeral Home in Munster, with burial in Oak Woods Cemetery in Chicago.

Mary Nuyen
Mary “Willie” Nuyen, 76, formerly of Evansville, died, Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Kinder Care Nursing Home in Kalamazoo, Mich., of respiratory failure.
During World War II she worked at Servel and she retired from Eckrich in Kalamazoo.
Surviving are two daughters, Sherrie Hyet of Gobles, Mich., and Connie Taylor of Kalamazoo; five sisters, Ethel Francis of Henderson, Ky., Rachel Lynn and Joan Gray, both of Morganfield, Ky., Agnes Byrd of Memphis, Tenn., and Dorothy Singer of Evansville; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William, in 1998 and an infant son, Terry.
Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Kalamazoo.

Charles Guard
Charles H. Guard, 82, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at his home.
He was in sales at Finke Furniture for 25 years and retired from furniture sale at L.S. Ayres Co.
He was a World War II Marine veteran.
He was a 50-year member of Central United Methodist Church and had been a Sunday school teacher for a teen-age boys’ class. He was boys’ basketball coach and a church administrative board member.
He was a 53-year member of Equality (Ill.) Masons and the Evansville Scottish Rite.
He was on the board of Evansville Boys Club and had been president and secretary.
He was a member of the “famous” Evansville College football team that did not score a point during the season.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret L. “Peg” (Finke); a daughter, Peggy Huey of Evansville; a son, Charles B. of Evansville; four grandchildren, Andy and Elizabeth Guard and Amy and Brent Huey; a great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. C. Mac Hamon officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites.

Richard L. Stuckey, 76, of Evansville, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at North Park Nursing Home.
He retired from Chrysler Corp.

She worked at Haub Steak House for 10 years.
She was a member of Holy Cross Church and Fort Branch Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are four sons, Randall and Jeffery, both of Jasper, Donald of Fort Branch and Keith A. of Dubois; a sister, Henrietta Beier of St. Meinrad; and two grandchildren.
Her husband, Joseph E., preceded her in death.

Mansfield McBeth
VELPEN, Ind. — Mansfield “Mac” McBeth, 71, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Toys Garage in Montgomery of an apparent heart attack.
He retired from Graber Implements in Montgomery and worked part-time at Toys Garage.
He was a member of the General Baptist Church in Velpen.
Surviving are four daughters, Randi McBeth and Melisa Scraper, both of Velpen, Pamela Flener of French Lick and Kimberly Spencer of Vinton, Ohio; three sons, David of Petersburg, Thomas of Loogootee and John of Jasper; two sisters, Alma Hardt of Los Angeles and Lavee McVay of Ace, Texas; a brother, Buckner of Coppers Cove, Texas; 23 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary E. (Hobbs) in 1999 and a son, Robert Leslie.

TELL CITY, Ind. — Phillip Tyler Vaughn, 26, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis of pneumonia.
He was a controller with Business Furniture Corp. of Indianapolis.
He was a 1991 graduate of Tell City High School and a 1995 graduate of Ball State University.
In high school he was chosen to play for the 1990-91 season North and South All-Stars game in Indianapolis. He also coached the elementary girls’ basketball team.
He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church and the Indiana CPA Society.
He was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in Indianapolis.
Surviving are his wife, Angelique (Shearn); a son, Zachary Vaughn, at home; a brother, Bryan of Virginia Beach, Va.; and his parents, Jim and Diane (Weatherholt) Vaughn of Tell City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. EST Friday at St. Paul Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
