Douglas Jerome Bell, 21, of Evansville, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center emergency eoom of acute myocardial infarction.
He worked for the Black Coalition Temporary Service.
He was preparing to go to the Semi-Pro Football League. He attended Reitz High School and Central High School, where he played football.
Surviving are a daughter, Ajestika Bell of Indianapolis; three sons, Trevonte and Graberal, both of Evansville, and Jordan of Laverne, Tenn.; his parents, Teretha “Penny” Hooper and Tony Bell, both of Evansville; three sisters, Kamali Givens, Tonisha Bell and Joanna Bell, all of Evansville; three brothers, Kent “Little Kenny” Bailey and Tarmarr Bell, both of Evansville, and Jevon McNary of Springfield, Mass.; his grandparents, Frank Douglas and Coleen Collins and James and Patricia Wadlington; his great-grandmother; and nieces and nephews.

David Tomes
David F. Tomes, 82, of Evansville, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at his home. He retired in 1982 as the lead carpenter for the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corp. He worked as a carpenter for 32 years.
He attended Eastside Pilgrim Holiness Church.
He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary Sarver, Martha Jane Caldwell and Virginia Christine Tomes, all of Evansville; a son, David F. II of Evansville; two grandchildren, Vanessa Caldwell and Ralph Allen Caldwell Jr.
His wife, L. Virginia, died in 1998.

Mary Jane Musgrave, 81, formerly of Evansville, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, in California.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Parish in Evansville.
Surviving are a daughter, Dr. Linda Friend of San Rafael, Calif.; a son, David Friend of Portland, Ore.; and three grandchildren, Kristi, Jenny and Jason. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clifford Friend and David Musgrave.

Roy L. “Bud” Rutland, 70, formerly of Evansville, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at his home in Destin, Fla., of cancer.
He worked for Alcoa for 20 years.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Barbara Werner of Jacksonville, Fla., and Deborah Sperandio of Tampa, Fla.; two sons, Larry and Mark, both of Jacksonville; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Betty L. Majors, 52, of Evansville, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of an apparent heart attack.
She was a former member of the Owls.

Rita (Effinger) Irving, 74, formerly of Evansville, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, in Phoenix of complications during heart surgery.
Surviving are her husband, David Kenneth “Ken”; a daughter, Debbie McKee of Phoenix; three sisters, Cecilia Froehlich of Tucson, Ariz., and Josephine Commens and Barbara Baker, both of Evansville; and five grandsons. She was preceded in death by a son, David, in 1995.

Herbert E. Mohr, 90, of Evansville, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at North Park Nursing Home. He retired from Hesmer Foods after 53 years.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Darmstadt and a former coach of Little League and Pony League teams.
He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving on a transport ship.

Wallace R. Vickers, 63, of Evansville, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital of congestive heart failure. He retired in 1991 from Chrysler in St. Louis.

Auretta “Hetta” Hubbard, 84, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at her home of heart failure. She retired from the Evan-

She was a member of Berean Bible Church, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 73, Retired Policeman and Fireman Association and past president of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary 427.
She was a graduate of Reitz High School.

MOUNT VERNON, Ind. — John J. Quick, 93, formerly of Rockport, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Mount Vernon Nursing &
Rehabilitation Center. He was self-employed as a coal miner.
Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Isham and Josephine Yearby, both of Mount Vernon; two stepsons, Carl and Kenneth Shourds, both of Chrisney; a sister, Carrie Linne of Evansville; a brother, Raymond of Harrison, Ark.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. His first wife, Mary Beth, died in 1978, and his second wife, Lucille Shourds-Quick, died in 1992.

TELL CITY, Ind. — Cyril C. Kleaving, 83, of rural Tell City, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.
He was a farmer and helped found the Anderson Township Fire Department and the Middlefork Conservancy District, which includes Tipsaw and Celina lakes. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization and Knights of Columbus Council 1172 in Tell City.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Frieda (Dauby); four daughters, Ruth Strobel, Esther Goffinet, Mary Fortwendel and Glenda Gogel, all of Tell City; a son, Gilbert of Tell City; two brothers, Alva and Hubert, both of Tell City; 16 grandchildren, Sue Strobel Sanders, Janet Strobel, Angela Kleaving Gilliland, Theresa Kleaving Ebert, Cindy Kleaving Labhart, Mike, Danny and Nick Kleaving, Neil Fortwendel, Sara Fortwendel Harpenau, Emily Fortwendel Winter, Adam, Greg and Kristen Gogel and Glenn and Jennifer Goffinet; and three great-grandchildren.

VINCENNES, Ind. — Nancy S. Foncannon, 70, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at her home under hospice care.
She served as an officer on the Old Northwest Corp. board, the Vincennes Cemetery board, a former board member of the United Way and currently served on the Knox County Health Board.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and its Homebuilders Class and was active in fund-raisers for local charities. She was also a member of the Vincennes Lincoln Foundation and the Vincennes University Foundation. She was a graduate of the Indiana University School of Business, president of Chi Omega sorority in 1951 and served as president of Tri Kappa in Vincennes.
Surviving are her husband, Horace A. Jr.; a daughter, Lisa F. Kilmartin of Jamestown, N.Y.; a son, Robert of Evansville; a brother, Dan Stevenson of Santa Monica, Calif.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son.

He owned Chevrolet agencies in Princeton and Mount Carmel before moving to Knoxville, where he started the Sonitrol Security business. He was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral in Knoxville. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving as a captain.

MADISONVILLE, Ky. — Earl Lee Taylor, 60, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at his home of cancer. He retired from the Army as a sergeant major after 25 years, serving two tours of duty in Korea, one in Vietnam and two in Germany. He worked for the Kentucky Highway Department for 12 years. He was a member of Madisonville Baptist Church and a Kentucky Colonel.

He was a member and deacon of the First General Baptist Church in Madisonville and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars 5480. He was a World War II Army veteran.

She was a member of Lighthouse The Greater United Pentecostal Church of Madisonville, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Ladies Fellowship Circle and the Food Committee.
Surviving are four daughters, Patricia Anne and Rebecca Gail DeMoss and Karen LeGrand, all of Madisonville, and Sharon Harper of Paducah; a son, Hiram Glenn of Madisonville; two sisters, Maxine DeMoss and Mavis Seaton, both of Evansville; six grandchildren, Alisha DeMoss, Cristie and Lindsey LeGrand, Celestine and Will Harper and Hope Harper Dowdy; a great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Hiram T., died in 1995.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Harris Funeral Home, with entombment in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Jane Fraliex
PRINCETON, Ky. — Jane Fraliex, 68, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville of cancer.
She retired from Princeton Hosiery Mill as a seamstress. She was a member of Green Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Jerry; two daughters, Sharon Oliver of Princeton and Sandra Dunn of Lyon County; two sons, Sam and Steve Gilkey, both of Caldwell County; two sisters, Mellodean Cortner of Caldwell County and Juanita Drescher of Florida; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Morgan’s Funeral Home, with burial in Blue Spring Church Cemetery.
