TELL CITY, Ind. — Mildred “Mitz” Gates, 78, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.
She had been a clerk for the Tell City Water Department.
She was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ, American Legion Post 213 Ladies Auxiliary and Swiss Miss Homemakers Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Christine Gates of Tell City; and two sisters, Ruth Weatherholt of Rockport and Blanche Waitman of Tell City.
Her husband, John W., and a daughter, Carol, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

Leslie Goodaker
PRINCETON, Ky. — Leslie Goodaker, 90, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at her home.
He had owned radio station WPKY and was a deacon of the Northside Baptist Church.
Surviving is a niece.
His first wife, Mayme (Pollard), and his second wife, Katherine, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Morgan’s Funeral Home, with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Chester Berry
HENDERSON, Ky. — Chester A. Berry, 80, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Methodist Hospital.
He was a retired painter and wallpaper hanger. He was a member of East End Tabernacle and participated in several musical group ministries.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy E.; a daughter, Barbara Ann Griffin of Henderson; two sisters, Frances Smith of Georgetown, Ky., and Vernie Coney of Woodridge, Ill.; a brother, James E. of Robards; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home, with burial in Fernwood Cemetery.

SEBREE, Ky. — Louise Frazier Williams, 86, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, in Colonial Terrace Nursing Home.
She was a nursing assistant.
Surviving are two daughters, Lanna Poberts of Sebree and Sherry Schooley of Henderson; four sons, Robert and Ronnie, both of Sebree, Gary Eugene of St. Louis and Dennis Lee of Tampa, Fla.; two brothers, Daryl Frazier of Dixon and Bobby Frazier of Henderson; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Rufus Malcolm, and a son preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Springdale Cemetery. There will be no visitation at Tompkins Funeral Home.
Bessie Phillips
HENDERSON, Ky. — Bessie E. Phillips, 89, formerly of Henderson, died Monday, Feb. 22, 2000, at her home in Peoria, Ariz.
Surviving are a daughter, Judith Gale Wassom of Melbourne, Fla.; a son, Ronny G. Phillips of Phoenix; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Elma Garrett
STURGIS, KY. — Elma Garrett, 90, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Friendship Nursing Home in Marion, Ill.
She was a member of the Grangertown Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Maurice, Jimmy and Peanuts, all of Sturgis; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

L. Edward Kincade
HENDERSON, Ky. — L. Edward Kincade, 79, did Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at his home.
He was a World War II Army veteran. He was the first president of the Men’s Club at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church and had been a eucharistic minister for 20 years.
Surviving are his wife, Kathryn; four daughters, Jackie Armstrong of Louisville, Diane Hargis of Russellville, Linda Konkler of Scottsburg, Ind., and Theresa Glenn of Paducah; three sons, L. Edward Jr. of Raleigh, N.C., Charles of Evansville and Joseph of Chillicothe, Ohio; two sisters, Vera Nussmeyer of Sydney, Ill., and Mary Ellen Waymire of Attica, Ind.; five brothers, Clifford and Harlan, both of Indianapolis, Robert and William, both of Williamsport, Ind., and Marion of Boswell, Ind.; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at noon Friday at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, with burial in St. Louis Cemetery.

Nola Fambrough
HENDERSON, Ky. — Nola Rankin Fambrough, 64, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Methodist Hospital.
She was a home health aide for St. Anthony’s Hospice and a private sitter.
She was a member of Watson Lane Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughter, Lisa Diane Goodrum of Tulsa, Okla., and Janet E.; Walker of Cairo; two sons, Arthur Gordon “Gordy” Jr. and Albert D., both of Henderson; her father and stepmother, James D. and Rosa B. LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. — Kathleen Mary Sandefer, 82, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital.
She had been schoolteacher and was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
Surviving are her husband, Robert; two daughters, Mary K. Davis of Vincennes, Ind., and Ann Marie Hartigan of the state of Washington; three sons, Michael of Harrisville, N.Y., Richard of Charleston and Robert A. of Sumner; and seven grandchildren.

HARRISBURG, Ill, — Stella Goodman Motley, 98, died Saturday Feb. 19, 2000, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
She had been a seamstress with the WPA and a domestic housekeeper.
She was a member and on the usher board of the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, member of Helping Hands Club and Loyalty Home Extension.
Surviving are a daughter, Henrietta Moss of Harrisburg; a brother, Coy Goodman of Rome, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren, Patricia Richardson, Linda Williams, Elizabeth Jones, Sara Coleman, Nona Rice, Beverly Sanders, Miriam Clingman, Charlotte Taborn, Cecil Turner, Ray Booker and Winfred, Randall, Raymond and William Moss; 51 great-grandchildren; and 56 great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, William McKinley Motley, and a daughter, Beatrice Medlock, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in Sunset Gardens Cemetery.

Irma Baehl
Irma L. Baehl, 95, of Evansville, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Woodbridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She formerly worked at Fendrich Cigar Co.
She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, St. Ann Altar Society, Knights of St. John Auxiliary and the church quilting club. She was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County.
Surviving are two daughters, Valeria Ann Spindler of Fort Branch, Ind., and Sharon A. Mills of Evansville; five sons, Doyle J. of Newburgh, Jerome A. and Bernard R., both of Haubstadt, Ind., Kenneth K. of Chrisney, Ind., and Paul L. of Evansville; two brothers, Edwin Sensmeier of Darmstadt, Ind., and Clarence Sensmeier of Evansville; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Alphonse, died in 1958.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Browning Funeral Home, continuing at 10:30 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, the St. Theresa Pastoral Team officiating, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Vanderburgh County.

Lonnie Bowen
Lonnie E. “Gene” Bowen, 72, of Evansville, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital of respiratory failure.
He retired from the Indiana State Highway Department.
He was a member of the River Bend Association and the Owls.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Linda; two sons, Gary and Glen, both of Evansville; and a grandson, John Bowen.
Services and visitation will be private at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel.
Ralph Moore
Ralph P. Moore, 93, of Evansville, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at North Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He worked at the McCurdy Hotel for 40 years as head waiter. He also worked for Old National Bank in the mailroom for 15 years.
He was a member of Alexander African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Virginia.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Alexander African Methodist Episcopal Church, the Rev. Rick Jackson officiating, with entombment in Locust Hill Mausoleum.

Walter Gill
Walter C. Gill, 84, of Evansville, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital of cancer.
He worked as a room clerk and later as assistant manager at the former McCurdy Hotel. He retired in 1976 from Decorative Mold Co.
He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran.
Surviving are a daughter, Launita Seals of Evansville; a brother, Jimmy of Tavares, Fla.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita, in 1994, and by a son, Ronald L., in 1996.
There will be no visitation or services at Pierre Funeral Home.

Christine Annette Crowe, 39, of Evansville, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital of complications following surgery.

Edward “Andy” Payne, 37, of Evansville, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital of multiple stab wounds.
He worked for Ted Pease Construction Co. as a roofer.
Surviving are his mother, Jacqueline Payne of Evansville; a sister, Jacqueline Marie Lehman of Evansville; two stepsisters, Mary Pease of Elberfeld, Ind., and Barbara Martin of Florida; two brothers, Robert L. of Evansville and Larry of Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy, in 1996.

Leander John Broady, 78, of Mount Vernon, Ill., formerly of Evansville, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital.
He was a crane operator and mechanic in construction.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon, Ind., the Masonic Lodge of Cannelton, Ind., Operating Engineers Local 181 in Henderson, Ky., and the Evansville Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Martha G.; two daughters, Sandra Strunk of Bedford, Ind., and Carlotta Ford of Grand Forks, N.D.; a son, Leander John II of Mount Vernon, Ill.; two sisters, June Collins of Borden, Ind., and Etta Mae Minton of Memphis, Ind.; four brothers, Paul of Jeffersonville, Ind., and Frank, Martin and Danny Lee, all of Memphis, Ind.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Terry Lee.

Robert L. Clayton, 70, of Santa Claus, Ind., formerly of Evansville, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at St. Mary’s Health Care Services/Welborn Campus of heart failure.
He retired from First Federal Savings Bank and remained chairman of the board.
He was a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Mariah Hill, Ind.
He was a member of the West Side Nut Club, serving in all offices including president in 1964, past president of the Mater Dei Booster Club, past president of the West Side Business and Professional Association, member of the Evansville Board of Realtors, Christmas Lake Golf Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars 1114.
He was a graduate of Memorial High School and a Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Mary Lou; two daughters, Cindy Bauer of Evansville and Cathy Hawkins of Santa Claus; two sons, Robert L. Jr. of Santa Claus and Ronald D. of Evansville; a sister, Barbara Montgomery of Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother, James of Evansville; and 11 grandchildren, Christy, Amanda, Maddie, Kelsey and Laura Clayton, Alicia Esarey, Seth, Nathan and Jessica Bauer and Colin and Ben Hawkins.
Services will be at 10 a.m. CST Tuesday at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Mariah Hill, Ind., the Rev. Paul Roos officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.
