WILLIAMSTOWN - Committal services for Glendon D. Beaton, who died June 1, 2004, will be held at noon Saturday, August 7 at the Village Cemetery in Williamstown.
The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home of Barre is in charge of the arrangements.

Elmer L. "Casino" Goslant
GROTON - Elmer L. "Casino" Goslant, 51, of Grimes Acres Road, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 18, 1952, in Montpelier, son of Elmer and Dorothy Goslant Sr. He graduated from Montpelier High School. Following high school he served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Vietnam War.
Mr. Goslant married Clair Norton in September 1978. They lived in the Barre area for their entire marriage. He purchased property in Groton in 1994, where he has lived since.
He was an automobile mechanic for over 16 years at Cody Chevrolet in Montpelier. He also owned Casino Enterprises, an auto shop in Berlin.
Survivors include Claire Goslant of Barre; daughters, Heather Massee of Craftsbury, and Rachel Ann Smith of Websterville; a son, Eric James Goslant of Barre; six grandchildren; a sister, Arlene Goslant of Lincoln; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, a sister, Cheryl Goslant and a brother, Michael Goslant Sr.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Groton Village Cemetery in Groton. There are no calling hours.

James J. LaRose Rites
WEBSTERVILLE - A Mass of Christian burial for James J. LaRose of Little John Road, who died July 17, 2004, was celebrated Saturday, July 31 at St. Monica's Catholic Church in Barre.
The Rev. Peter Routhier, pastor of the church, was the celebrant. Seminarian James Zuccaro assisted. The Crucifer was William Shannon. Zuccaro led the Prayer of the Faithful.
Cindy Barney, a niece, led the Old Testament reading. Crystal Emerson, a niece, read from the New Testament.
Active bearers were Leandro Perojo III, Larry Perojo, Carl Thompson and Stanley Lanphear, brothers-in-law, Michael Hebert and Kenneth Deuso Jr., both nephews.
A prayer service, led by Routhier and Zuccaro, was held Friday at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home in Barre.
Burial was in St. Sylvester Cemetery in Lower Websterville. A fellowship luncheon was held at the North Barre Manor in Barre following the burial.
The Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home of Barre was in charge of the arrangements.

Elise Perkins
BERLIN - Elise Perkins, 95, of Hartford died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at Woodbridge Nursing Home in Berlin.
Arrangements are pending with the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction.

Dorothy Jeanette Hamelin Sparrow
NASHUA, N.H. - Dorothy Jeanette Hamelin Sparrow, 87, of Nashua, formerly of East Montpelier, Vt., died July 26, 2004.
She was born Jan. 29, 1917, in Marlboro, Mass., to Agnes Girard and Milford Hamelin.
Mrs. Sparrow lived in Northboro, Mass., for 34 years, where she raised eight children. She then moved to East Montpelier, Vt., for 32 years.
She was a life-long member of the Marlboro American Legion in Marlboro, Mass., and the Northboro Grange in Northboro, Mass., where she was also a treasurer for many years.
She enjoyed music, sewing, reading and gardening. She also enjoyed nature.
Survivors include her daughters, Dorothy Locke of Southboro, Mass., Sandra Wright of Brookline, Joyce Prosser of Wilton, Jane Hadley of Weare and Jo-Ann Sparrow of Groton; sons, Philip and David Sparrow of Montpelier, and Walter Sparrow of Oroville, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Saturday at the Trinity Church in Northboro, Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Association of N.H./Vt., 10 Ferry St. Suite 427B, Concord, NH 03301.
The French & Rising Funeral Home of Goffstown was in charge of the arrangements.

EAST THETFORD - David F. Upham, 69, of East Thetford died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

Dorothy M. Williamson
RANDOLPH - Memorial services for Dorothy M. Williamson, 84, who died July 25, 2004, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 7 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Randolph, with the Rev. Timothy Eberhardt officiating. Calling hours will be held from 11:30 to noon Saturday at the St. John's Parish Hall.
Burial will follow in the Ranney Cemetery in Stockbridge.
The Day Funeral Home in Randolph is in charge of the arrangements.

Beverly A. Locke
ROYALTON - Beverly A. Locke, 32, of Royalton, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004 in South Royalton from injuries she suffered in an automobile accident.
Arrangements are pending at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.

Muriel L. Hill
MORRISVILLE - Muriel L. Hill, 77, of Morrisville, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004 in Burlington.
She was born on July 15, 1926 in East Calais and was a 1944 graduate of Montpelier High School.
In 1945 she married Richard Hill.
She had worked for the Central Vermont Council on Aging where she served as an advocate for senior citizens.
Her hobbies included sewing and quilt-making.
A member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Charity Rebekah Lodge #38 in Hyde Park, she was also in charge of the local Salvation Army for many years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by: three sons, Alan Hill of Trinidad, Colo., Randall Hill, and Donald Hill, both of Morrisville; a daughter, Holly Hill of Denver, Colo.; two brothers, Reginald Lamb and Benjamin Lamb, both of Essex Junction; a sister, Jean Farnham of Franklin, N.H.; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. at the Puffer United Methodist Church in Morrisville.
The White-Fiess Funeral Home of Morrisville is in charge of arrangements.

Austin B. Noble
MONTPELIER - Austin B. Noble, 76, of Montpelier died Thursday morning Feb. 19th at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center in Berlin, Vt.
He was born in Randolph, Vt. on Aug. 4, 1927; the son of Robert S. and Anne Gilbert (Bell) Noble. He attended Schools in South Royalton, Vt. and at Phillips Exeter Academy, graduating in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy that summer, and was waiting a call to active duty in August, when he was stricken with polio. After a year in recovery, he attended Harvard College & Law School, graduating in 1953. Following a one-year internship, he entered into the practice of law in Burlington. In 1958, Austin was appointed Commissioner of Taxes of Vermont, serving in that capacity for 3 1/2 years. After a brief time back in Burlington, he moved to Montpelier where he practiced until his retirement in 1992. An avid reader, Austin pursued special interests in history, both political and legal. He was always fascinated by the makers of history; the politicians and industrial giants who helped shape our society.
Austin served on many boards and committees, including the Vermont Historical Society, the Gary Home and the Sterling School. He was very active in local, regional, and National Bar associations, and was a long time trustee of the Vermont Law School.
He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Gilbert and Barbara Noble of Bethel, Vt.; two nephews, Thomas Noble of Bridport, Vt. and James Noble of Randolph, Vt.; two nieces, Gail Fedus of Pembroke, Mass. and Sarah Adams of St. Albans, Vt. and their three children.
There will be a graveside service at Cherry Hill Cemetery in Bethel, Vt. at the family's convenience, in the spring or early summer. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions in Austin's name may be made to the Vermont Historical Society, 60 Washington Street, Barre, Vt., 05641. Arrangements are by the Day Funeral Home in Randolph, Vt.

Homer Hebert Rites
WILLIAMSTOWN - St. Edwards Catholic Church was filled to capacity on Friday February 20, 2004 to celebrate the mass of Christian burial for Homer L. Hebert of Fox Run Road who passed away February 16th at his home.
Reverend Kevin Rooney, Pastor, was the celebrant, assisted by altar servers Susie Longchamp, grandniece, and Nicholas Gagnon, grandnephew, who also served as crucifer. Scripture readings were read by godchildren, Louise Longchamp and Tammi Williams. Daughters-in-law Carol, Nancy and Sylvie Hebert presented offertory gifts. Bearers were nephews: Tom Hebert, John Hebert, Steve Coutermarsh, Norman Vermette, Mike Beaudette and David Harvey.
Very dear friends, Florence Winters was the organist, accompanied by Melody McCormack playing the fiddle and John Cort-Desrocher who sang hymns of "One Day at a Time", "Your Are Mine", "On Eagles Wings", "Ave Maria", "I Am the Bread of Life" and "How Great Thou Art", which was sung in French and English.
Son, Larry Hebert offered words of remembrance. Words of comfort were read by nephew, Tom Hebert.
Father Rooney led a prayer service Thursday evening at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home.
A fellowship gathering and luncheon after the service was held at the Music Club in Williamstown.
Committal services will be held on May 21, 2004 at 3 p.m. at the Williamstown Village Cemetery.
Services were in the care of the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre, Vt.

Lucille Grimard Rites
GRANITEVILLE - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Sylvester Church in Graniteville for Lucille M. Grimard of Baptist Street who passed away Saturday, February 14, 2004 at her home.
The Rev. Donald Roy, Pastor, was the celebrant and was assisted by Deacon John Paul Gratton, a cousin.
Organist was Jeanette DeForge, accompanied by St. Sylvester Church Choir who sang "Precious Lord", "Come to Me", "You Are Mine", "I Am The Bread Of Life", and "J'irai La Voir Un Jour".
The Old and New Testament readings were given by Deacon John Paul Gratton. Offertory gifts were presented at the altar by her nephews Brian LaCount, Paul Grimard and Peter Grimard.
Active bearers were Michael Grimard, Joseph Grimard, Dennis Grimard, Derrin Grimard, Armand LaCount Jr., and David LaCount, all nephews.
A Prayer Service was held Tuesday evening at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer Street, Barre and was led by Father Roy.
Entombment was in the Wilson Vault. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Sylvester Cemetery in Lower Websterville.
A fellowship gathering and luncheon after the service was held at the church hall.
Arrangements were in the care of the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home.

Cherished father of Paul Rumley and his wife Lorraine of Montpelier, VT, Thomas Rumley and his wife Maxine of Hampton, NH, Mary Rumley-Fagone and her husband Doug of Center Conway, NH and Joan Sterns and her husband Bill of Medford, MA. Devoted Brother of Mary Patterson of Charlestown, MA, Irene Saunders of Hampton, NH, Katherine Kit Davis of Hampton, NH, Helen Brock and her husband Owen of Hampton, NH and the late Robert Rumley. Wynona B. (Poirier) Aja
LEICESTER, Mass. Wynona B. (Poirier) Aja, 76, of Leicester, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at The Hermitage Nursing Home in Worcester, Mass.
Born in Braintree, she was the daughter of Pliador N. and Belle L. (Dwire) Poirier.
She was an assistant food manager and baker at Leicester Junior College for 22 years, retiring in 1975.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Lawrence A. Aja; two sons, Michael L. Aja of East Brookfield and Patrick of Leicester; a brother, Reginald Poirier of Barre; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held in the Morrison-Morin Funeral Home in Leicester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton, Mass. There are no calling hours.

Irene C. Brink, rites
MONTPELIER A memorial service for Irene C. Brink, who died Jan. 25, 2004, was held Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at Guare and Sons Funeral Home in Montpelier.
The Rev. Mitchell Haye, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, officiated.
Jean Villa was the organist. Grandsons James and John Brink offered words of remembrance.
Burial will be in the spring at Green Mount Cemetery in Montpelier.

Helen Petrie Eaton
MONTPELIER Helen Petrie Eaton, 90, of Freedom Drive, died Monday, February 2, 2004 at Central Vermont Hospital.
She was born on August 9, 1913, in Island Pond, VT, the daughter of Charles A and Effie May (Aldrich) Petrie. She attended schools in Island Pond and later graduated from Bay Path College in Massachusetts.
On September 2, 1939, she married Lester Walker Eaton in Island Pond, VT. Mr. Eaton died June 30, 1976.
Mrs. Eaton worked for the Vermont Liquor Control Department, and later Peerless Casualty Insurance Company and other various jobs in the area.
Her interests include knitting, sewing, reading, painting, and gardening. Most recently she enjoyed caring for the family dogs.
She is survived by a son, G. David Eaton and his wife Patricia of Montpelier; and her grandchildren, Leslie Baker and husband, Timothy of Waterbury Center, VT and their daughter Shayla Baker of Columbia, SC; Christopher Eaton and wife, Sabine of Shelburne, VT and their son, Alexander Eaton of Mashpee, MA; Monica Rice and fianc , Wade Manning, and her daughter Katelyn Rice of Randolph, VT.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Elsie Wright, Florence Utton, Bernard Petrie, Charles Petrie, Harold Petrie and Gerald Petrie
Calling hours will be held from 7-9 pm on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at Guare and Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 pm, Wednesday at the funeral home.

Madeline E. Newton
WATERBURY Madeline E. Newton, 82, of 64 South Main Street, passed away at the Rowan Court Health and Rehabilitation Center in Barre on Monday, February 02, 2004. Born in Montpelier on August 25, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Almon and Mary A. (Hurdle) Cota. Madeline married Carroll E. Newton, who predeceased her on February 20, 1996.
Madeline attended school in Brandon. A housekeeper most of her life, she worked for several area community care homes and later at the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury. She enjoyed knitting, visiting with her friends, cooking and listening to the radio.
Madeline is survived by several nephews, cousins and her many friends and caregivers at the Kirby House in Waterbury.
Graveside services will be held later this spring from the Moretown Common Cemetery at a date and time to be announced. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 11 Loomis Street, Montpelier VT 05602-3021. Marie F. Walker
BARRE TOWN Marie F. Walker, 65, of 28 Ridgewood Terrace, died at home surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer on January 30, 2004.
Born in Brattleboro on August 6, 1938, she was the first born of twins, to Lee and Mary (Bucossi) Frost.
She graduated from Brattleboro High School and attended Johnson State College.
On September 2, 1961, Marie married Richard Walker in Brattleboro.
Marie was a member of St. Monica Church in Barre.
Marie worked for many years at the Vermont Electric Co-op in Johnson. She worked for Copley Hospital and then worked for Berlin Family Health until September, 2003. Marie was a dedicated and valued volunteer at the Central Vermont Humane Society. She truly loved her cats and dogs and took great joy in fostering her weebie ones for adoption.
Marie will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched. She will be especially missed by her husband, Richard and her two children, Cheryl and Michael. Marie is survived by her husband, Richard; her children, Cheryl Walker of East Lansing, Michigan; Michael Walker and his fiancee, Beth of Barre; two brothers, Lee Frost and his wife, Ginger of Vacaville, California; William Frost and his wife, Peggy of Vernon, Vt.; her mother, Mary Frost of Brattleboro, Vt.; two sisters-in-law, Sherry Walker of Orlando, Florida; Diane Walker of Morrisville and several nieces and nephews. Marie is predeceased by her twin brother, Albert and her father.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday February 5, 2004 at 11 a.m. in St. Monica Church in Barre. There are no calling hours.
Arrangements are in the care of the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre, Vt.

Dorothy A. Howe
WINDSOR - Dorothy A. Howe, 90, died Jan. 30, 2004, at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor.

Charlotte C. Knights
DUXBURY - Charlotte C. Knights, 80, of Crossett Hill passed away at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin following a brief illness on Wednesday, January 28, 2004. Born in Waterbury on November 23, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Nora (Rowell) Clough. On August 4, 1947, she married Leo A. Knights in Alburg. Mr. Knights passed away on December 31, 1985.
Charlotte was a member of the Waterbury High School Class of 1941. Following her marriage, she and her husband moved to Washington D.C. where she worked at Standard Drugs and Safeway. Moving to Virginia, Charlotte became a licensed Real Estate agent and worked for several years before returning to her Vermont roots. During the 1980s, she continued her education by taking courses through Community College of Vermont and was a longtime employee at the former Smith's Store on South Main Street in Waterbury.
Active in the community, Charlotte was a 50-year member of the Dillingham Grange in Duxbury, was a member of both the Winooski Valley Pomona Grange and the Vermont State Grange. Her other memberships included the Waterbury Area Senior Citizens, the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Auxiliary Unit #59 and St. Andrew Catholic Church.
She is survived by three children, Molly Prentiss, Lawrence Knights and Thomas Knights; a sister, Grace Silloway of Maryland and a brother, Clifton Clough of Texas; as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Robert LaTulip, a sister, Maude Griffin, and two brothers, Leon Clough and Theron Clough.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated this spring at a date and time to be announced. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Duxbury. Arrangements are in the care of the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury.

Julia Paquin Rites
BARRE CITY - Funeral services were held Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, in Barre, for Julia Paquin, formerly of 455 North Main Street, who passed away January 29, 2004 at the Berlin Health & Rehab Center in Berlin, Vt.
The Pastor Craig Thompson officiated.
Organist, Lorna Carty, led the congregation in the hymns, "Rock Of Ages", "Cleft For Me" and "The Old Rugged Cross."
Soloist, Sybil Wood sang, "Amazing Grace" and "In The Garden."
Words of remembrance were offered by family members and friends.
Active bearers were, Barbara Liberty, Lori Delphia, Wayne Taylor, George Cushing, Michael Taylor and Ronald Cushing Jr., all grandchildren.
Entombment was in Elmwood Vault in Barre, Vt.
A later burial will be in the Woodside Cemetery in Beebe, Quebec.
Following the service a fellowship luncheon was held in the church dining hall.
Services were in the care of Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre, Vt.

Aaron Jon Reilly
BERLIN - The funeral service for Aaron Jon Reilly, who died Thursday, was held Saturday. The Rev. Susan Kittredge, pastor of the Old Meeting House in East Montpelier Center, officiated.
Amanda and Meghan Rice, Arthur "Bud" Smith and David James offered words of remembrance.

Wayne Breer Sr., Rites
BARRE TOWN - The funeral service for Wayne Alton Breer Sr., 74, of Barre Town, who died Wednesday, Jan. 28, was held Friday. The Rev. Herman Benjamin, pastor of Hedding United Methodist Church of Barre, officiated and gave the eulogy.
Entombment was in the Wilson Cemetery Vault in Websterville pending interment in the spring. Bearers were grandson Adam Beede, nephew Bruce "Moose" Perry and friends Roger "Red" Goodrich and James Emmons.
Friends and family gathered at the Hilltop Restaurant in Barre for fellowship and a luncheon.
An Elks memorial service was held Thursday with Jackie Stevens as exalted ruler, Brad Lawson as esquire, Betty Perreault as leading knight, Joyce Goulette as chaplain and Granville Paine as local and lecturing knight.

Kathleen Mary Burke
BARRE - Kathleen Mary Burke, 42, of Barre, died Jan. 30, 2004, at Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin.
She was born June 5, 1961, in West Stewartstown, N.H., daughter of Stephen Burke and Norma (Noyes) Richardson.
She loved classical music and taking car rides with family and friends.
Survivors include her parents; two brothers, Stephen Lavigne of Palmer Township, Pa., and Matthew Lavigne of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Deborah Kirk of Milton and Janet Santos of Syracuse, N.Y.; five nieces and nephews; and caretakers Alfred and Georgia Brock of Barre.
There will be no calling hours.

Ernest A. Cushman
TUNBRIDGE - Ernest A. Cushman, 83, of Tunbridge, died Jan. 19, 2004, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
He was born May 23, 1920, in Liberty, Maine, son of Merrill and Daphne (Ryan) Cushman.
He grew up in Liberty, Maine, and graduated from Belfast (Maine) High School in 1938.
Mr. Cushman served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married Eunice Carr in Searsport, Maine, on Oct. 4, 1943.
He lived in Maine, Massachusetts and Troy, N.H., before moving to Tunbridge in 1992.
He was a farmer most of his life. He also worked for Ray-O-Vac in Massachusetts.
Mr. Cushman was a longtime member of the New Hampshire Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed hunting; sports, especially the Red Sox; and his dog, Rosie.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice Cushman of Tunbridge; a son, Ernest A. Cushman of Woodruff, S.C.; daughters, Sandra Driscoll of East Randolph, Sharon Gallo of Tunbridge, Brenda Wilson of Sandia, Texas, and Pamelo Surowiec of Brockton, Mass.; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
There are no calling hours.
The funeral will be held in June at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Chapel in Randolph Center.
Burial with full military honors will follow at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, VT 05602.
Arrangements are under the direction of Day Funeral Home of Randolph.
