Vernold T. Eastman
Vernold Thomas Eastman, 73 – died Friday May 16th at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH after a long illness with cancer.
He was born in Groton, VT on 1-2-30, the son of Roger and Sarah (Lawton) Eastman. He graduated from Groton High School in 1948. He served in the Korean Conflict from 1951 – 1953. He was a granite cutter for 38 years.
On September 1, 1950, he married Joan (Stearns) Eastman. They lived most of their married life in So. Ryegate, VT.
He will be remembered for his love of baseball, hunting and fishing, and how he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, six children, Cynthia Taylor of Brattleboro, VT, Patricia Eastman of Bonita Springs, Fla., Connie Eastman of Montpelier, VT, Jeffrey Eastman of Overland Park, Kansas, Lori Greer of Keene, NH and Kristi Garner of Roxbury, VT; seven grandchildren, Lindsay and Meggin Taylor, Sarah Garner, Trevor Greer, Jack, Chase and Emma Eastman; four brothers, Kenneth, Larry, Clif and Bob Eastman; one sister Katherine Cochran and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, three sisters, Esther Murray, Dorothy Magoon and Agnes Eastman; three brothers, Tom, Bart and Howard Eastman.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 22 at 1 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in So. Ryegate, VT. Burial will be private at the family’s request.

STRAFFORD – Rowland C. Eastman, 88, died Monday morning, Dec. 1, 2003, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., following a brief illness.

Phyllis I. Eastman
NORTHFIELD - Phyllis I. Eastman, 80, of Washington Street, Northfield died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at her home. She was born May 10, 1924, in Plainfield, daughter of William and Anna (Sanders) Warren. On April 22, 1944, she married Albert Anson Eastman in Berlin. He died Dec. 28, 1991. She worked at the Nantanna Woolen Mill in Northfield for 20 years, the Merchants Bank in Barre for almost 20 years, and later at the Merchants Bank in Northfield as the assistant bank manager. Mrs. Eastman was a member of the United Methodist Church in Northfield, and the Roxbury Senior Center. She enjoyed crocheting and camping. Survivors include her children, Allen Eastman of Northfield, Albert 'Joe' Eastman Jr. of Roxbury, Harvey Eastman of Northfield, David Eastman of Orleans, Shirley Poluen of Stowe; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Harvey Warren, and a sister, Leona King. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, at the Kingston Funeral Home in Northfield. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Northfield. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Northfield. BECKLEY HILL, BARRE - A memorial mass was celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Monica Church for Maureen D. Eastman, of School Road, who died April 4, 2004 at the Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin.
The Rev. Peter Routhier, pastor of the church, was Celebrant. Albert Gagnon was Crucifer and led the Prayer of the Faithful. Words of remembrance were offered by a niece, Mary Vaccara. Readings from the Old and New Testament were delivered by a niece, Karen Schwartz. Gifts were brought to the Altar by grandchildren, John and Joey Vincent, Lindsey, Tyler, Autumn, Elliot and Andre Eastman and great grandson, Tyler Vincent.
Organist, Angeline Ennis, accompanied singers, Rita Lapearl and Romeo Bilodeau in the Hymns "Be Not Afraid," "The Lord Is My Shepherd," "On Eagles Wings," "In The Garden" and "Let There Be Peace On Earth."
Fellowship and luncheon followed at the Hilltop Restaurant. The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street in Barre was in charge of the arrangements.
Maureen D. Eastman
BECKLEY HILL – Maureen D. Eastman, 72, of School Road, died Sunday night, April 4, 2004, at the Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin.
She was born April 16, 1931, in Barre, daughter of Leo and Ethel (McAllister) Crowley. She attended elementary school in East Barre and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1949.
On June 3, 1950, she married Harry G. Eastman in St. Sylvester Church in Graniteville. Following their marriage they lived in Barre and since 1964 at their present home.
She had worked as a secretary and bookkeeper in an accountant’s office in Barre.
She enjoyed sewing, snowshoeing, beagling, and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She had been a Home Health Volunteer.
Besides her husband, she leaves: a daughter, Kathy Vincent and her husband John of Roseville, CA; three sons, Kelley Eastman and his companion, Michelle Amaral of Barre, Bradley Eastman and his wife, Jodi, of East Barre and John Eastman and his wife, Julie, of Hinesburg; eight grandchildren, John and Joey Vincent, Kevin, Lindsey and Tyler Eastman, Autumn, Elliot and Andre Eastman; a great-grandson, Tyler Vincent.
Also surviving is: a brother, Terry Crowley of Springfield; three sisters, Billie Capotosti of Florence, SC, Betty Bobrowski of North Walpole, NH and Janet Barrile of Ft. Myers, FL; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by; her son, Brian Eastman; two brothers, Jack and Timothy Crowley and a sister, Claire LaFreniere.
A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM in St. Monica Church. There are no calling hours. Betty Jean Sheedy
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Betty Jean Sheedy, 77, former resident of Pearl Street in Montpelier, died May 6, 2003, at her home in Winter Haven.
She was born in Louisville, Ky.
She graduated from the University of Washington and was a member of the Tri Delta sorority. During World War II and while still in college she worked as a draftsperson for Boeing Aircraft. Following the war she did graduate studies at the University of California at Berkeley with painter Mark Tobey.
She was a professional artist, calligrapher and illustrator, having illustrated “Two Thousand Years in Rome,” by Richard Mertz. Sheedy also worked for the Vermont State government and was a longtime resident of Pearl Street, Montpelier.
Ms. Sheedy was an active volunteer for many groups including the American Red Cross, Planned Parenthood, and Parents Anonymous.
She enjoyed gardening, fishing and sailing, photography, writing her personal history, and cooking, and especially the Cameos Memoir Writing Group, taught by Helene Schulz at the Winter Haven Library, which she attended for many years.
Survivors include a sister, MaryAnn White, California; two daughters, Anne Sheedy-Gardner of Lincoln, Neb., Maureen Sheedy of Montpelier; two grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and her former husband, Jack Sheedy, New York City.
Cremation was handled by the American Heritage Cremation Society in Clearwater, Fla.
Phyllis Teeters
NORTHFIELD – Phyllis M. Teeters, 83, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at the Berlin Health & Rehab Center in Berlin. She was born in Mankato, Minnesota on October 12, 1919, the daughter of Jay and Lillian (Miller) Pitcher. She is a graduate of Mankato High School class of 1938.
She had been married to Judge John P. Connarn. She later married Col. Bernard Teeters.
Mrs. Teeters was an avid television “soaps” watcher and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by a son, Michael Connarn of Allentown, Pennsylvania; a daughter Patricia Sue French of Northfield; three grandchildren, Peter Young III of Lebanon, NH, Michael Young of Winooski, Elizabeth E. French of Berlin; one great granddaughter, Zoey I.R. French of Barre; and several cousins.
She is predeceased by her husband, Col. Bernard Teeters and a son, John Patrick Connarn.
There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, May 24, at 10 a.m. in the MT Hope Cemetery in Northfield. Kingston Funeral Home in Northfield is in charge.

Mrs. Fern Titus
PENSACOLA, FL/STOWE, VT – Mrs. Fern J. Titus, age 65, of Pensacola, FL, died Monday, May 19, 2003, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Titus was born in Stowe, but had lived in Pensacola, FL most of her life. She was an active member of the Joyful Noise Singers and co-producer of St. Mary’s Productions for many years. Mrs. Titus worked in the English Department on the main campus at Pensacola Junior College for 21 years.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Larry, her son; Greg and his wife Laura, her daughter; Sheila and her husband Mark, grandsons; Will and Jason, granddaughters; Meghan, Emily and Abigail. She is also survived by one sister; Geneva and by brothers; Ellis, Evans, Glenn, Brad and Kent.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Thursday May 22nd at the Stafford Funeral Home in Stowe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am, Friday, May 23rd at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Stowe. Interment

RANDOLPH – Priscilla Porter “Bebe” Cameron, 63, died May 17, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
She was born Jan. 5, 1940, in East Orange, N.H., the daughter of William and Priscilla (Porter) Cameron.
She graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in Caldwell, N.J., in 1958 and attended Farleigh Dickenson University from 1960 to 1961.
Ms. Cameron worked as an account executive for Employers Mutual of Warsaw, L.I. and in 1969 moved to Vermont, where she worked in the security department at Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center. She later worked as a cook in various restaurants, in the research department at Vermont Castings and served as librarian for the Brookfield Library for several years.
She enjoyed her many books and cats.
Survivors include a brother Bruce Cameron of Randolph; her companion Peter Coyle of Randolph; two nieces and a great-grandniece.
A brother William Cameron III is deceased.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the East Randolph Cemetery. The Rev. Timothy Eberhardt will officiate.

HARTFORD, Conn. - Joseph M. Gingras, 71, husband of Jeannine (Sirois) Gingras of Poquonock, died Friday, September 12, 2003 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Barre on October 15, 1931, son of the late Alphonse and Lucienne (Mercier) Gingras, he had lived in Poquonock for the last 30 years. Before retiring in 1993 he was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 35 years. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. Besides his wife of 45 years, Jeannine, he leaves four brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry and Aline Gingras of Peacham Pond, VT, Armand and Cynthia Gingras of Barre, VT, Albert and Joan Gingras of Williamstown, VT and Raymond and Edith Gingras of East Barre, VT. He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister, Laurent and Francis Gingras and Simone Patch. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Monday 9 a.m., in St. Joseph Church, 1747 Poquonock Ave., Poquonock section of Windsor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Poquonock. WILLIAMSTOWN – The funeral service for Joseph Albert Gingras, 7, of Bearskat Road, who died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, was held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Williamstown United Federated Church (Congregational). The Rev. Gwendolyn Hallsmith, pastor, officiated.
Pianist, Florence Winters provided the prelude and postlude music. The congregation sang the hymn “What A Friend We Have in Jesus” and was accompanied by organist and grandmother, Donah Deattie.
The Eulogy was given by grandmothers, Donah Beattie and Joan Gingras. “The Next Place” was read by Amanda Beattie. Personal Reflections were shared by aunt, Hilda Carrier who also read the “Little League Pledge,” Norma Atherton who read the poem, “The Community’s Child,” Williamstown Elementary School Principal, Susette Bollard, and caregivers and staff from Vermont Children’s Hospital, Child Life Department, Jennifer Smith, Jess Rabideaux, Kathy O’Reilly, and Monica Ploof. Scripture readings were by Rev. Kevin Rooney, pastor of St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Williamstown.
Special pre-recorded music “You’ll Be In My Heart” by Phil Collins and “Trashing The Camp” from Tarzan was played.
Interment
was in the East Hill Cemetery in Williamstown, where Rev. Hallsmith offered committal prayers. Bearers were uncles, Robert Beattie, Gary Beaudet, Glenn Gingras, and Sean Higgins, and cousins, Alan Beattie and Justin Beaudet.
Family and friends gathered at the Williamstown Elementary School after the committal for a time of fellowship and refreshments.

Richard A. Gingras
BARRE TOWN - Richard A. Gingras, 58, of 355 Windywood Road passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003 at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.
Born in Barre on May 10, 1945, he was the son of Edgar and Annette (Carbonneau) Gingras.
He attended Barre City schools.
On Dec. 31, 1976, he married Linda Wells in Barre. They made their home in Barre.
He was employed as a painter for Dubois Painting Co. for a number of years and for the past 35 years he was employed as a boxer and lumper for Pepin Granite Co.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially enjoyed his new grandson, Steven.
He was a member of St. Monica Church, the Canadian Club, the Loyal Order of Moose and United Steel Workers of America, all of Barre.
Survivors include his wife, Linda, of 26 years of marriage; one daughter, Alice Gingras and her companion, William Derouchie; one grandson, Steve Derouchie, all of Barre Town; his mother, Annette Gingras of Barre; one sister, Alice Monte and her companion, Herbert Lindsay of Baltimore, Maryland; two brothers, Phillipe Gingras and his wife Linda, and Paul Gingras, all of Barre; and several nieces and nephews.
Richard was predeceased by one daughter, Sarah and his father, Edgar Gingras.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Monica Church in Barre.
Family and friends may call at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, with a prayer service to be held at 8:15 p.m.
Burial will be in Hope Cemetery in Barre.

BARRE TOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday August 6, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Monica Church in Barre for Richard A. Gingras of 355 Windywood Road, who passed away on August 3, 2003, at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, Vt.
The Rev. Peter Routhier, Pastor of the Church, was the celebrant, assisted by Deacon Karl Hahr of Holy Cross Church, in Morrisville, Vt.
Crucifer, Albert Gagnon, was altar server.
Organist Angeline Ennis, accompanied soloists, Rita Laperle and Romeo Bilodeau, in the hymns, "We Gather Together," "The Lord Is My Shepherd," "Jesus Come To Us," "Ave Maria," and "The Old Rugged Cross."
The Old Testament reading was given by Alice Monte, a sister and Herbert Lindsay, a friend, read from the New Testament.
Deacon Hahr, read the Gospel and led the Prayer of the Faithful.
Offertory gifts were presented at the altar by, Paul Gingras, a brother; Christopher Monte, a nephew; William Derouchie and Linda St. John, both friends.
Eulogy, written by daughter, Alice Gingras, was read by William Derouchie, a friend.
Honorary Guards were employees from Pepin Granite Co. of Barre. In attendance were members of the Canadian Club, also of Barre.
Active bearers were, George Driver, Kenny Babicky, Sheridan Crowningshield, Ronnie St. John, Dick Johnson and Wayne Foren.
A Prayer Service was held Tuesday evening at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home and was led by Father Routhier, also words of remembrance were offered by Linda St. John.
Interment
was in Hope Cemetery in Barre, where Father Routhier offered Committal Prayers and John Pepin (Richard's employer) of Pepin's Granite Co., offered reflections.
Following the burial a fellowship luncheon was held at the Canadian Club in Barre.

Frank Lewis
ROCHESTER – Frank T. Lewis, 79, of Rochester, died May 16, 2003, at his home.
He was born Aug. 2, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of John R. and Emily (Nyland) Lewis.
He graduated from Newtown High School in Long Island, N.Y., and attended New York University.
Mr. Lewis served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He worked as a supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service at JFK Airport for 30 years and lived in Jamaica, N.Y., before moving to Rochester in 1993.
He enjoyed bowling, reading and playing cards.
Survivors include a sister, Harriet Paino of Rochester and a brother Richard Lewis of Spring Hill, Fla.
A brother John Lewis is deceased.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center.

Lawrence “Curly” Bell Sr.
MINOT, N.D. – Lawrence L. “Curly” Bell Sr., 73, formerly of Barre, died May 12, 2003, at his home in Minot.
He was born Dec. 31, 1929, in Northfield, the son of Clifford and Leona (Abbott) Bell.
He attended Northfield schools.
He married Maybelle Ditchum June 12, 1948, in Barre. They lived in Barre until 1993, when they moved to Minot. She died Dec. 9, 1994.
Mr. Bell served in the armed forces during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952 and was stationed in Germany.
He worked as a mechanic at the former Montgomery Ward store in Barre and later was a driver for United Van Lines.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #10 and Moose Lodge #1391, both in Barre.
He enjoyed fishing and bowling.
Survivors include five daughters, Margaret Surprenant of Minot, Janet Miller and Karen Machell, both of Barre, Rose Willis of Montpelier and Lynda Parente of Malden, Mo.; four sons, Lawrence L. Bell Jr. of South Barre, John Bell of Fox Home, N.D., Edward Bell of Orange and Clinton Bell of Washington; two brothers, Nelson Bell of Williamstown and Ronald Bell of Barre; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Two daughters, Patricia Bell and Joyce Sanborn; four sisters, Shirley Flood, Virginia Randall, Marilyn Prive and Lorraine Whitcomb; and two brothers, Wilfred and Wendell Bell, are deceased.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Brookhaven Cemetery in Orange.

Judith Knight
BRAINTREE – Judith L. Knight, 60, formerly of Randolph, died May 13, 2003, at her home.
She was born July 8, 1941, in Lynn, Mass., the daughter of Elmer and Evelyn (Eldridge) Peart.
She graduated from Saugus, Mass. High School and attended nurses training.
Ms. Knight worked as a care giver for William Lamson and Mabel Leonard in Randolph and for the past several years worked with the physically and mentally challenged. She also made Indian jewelry, which she sold to area stores.
She enjoyed wildlife, the outdoors, Native American history, gardening and reading.
Survivors include a daughter, Laurie Gilikson of Casco, Maine; three sons, Jeffrey Stover and Michael Stover, both of Casco, Maine, and Peter Stover of Whitefield, N.H.; a brother Rand Peart of Brownington; 10 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph. The Rev. Timothy Eberhardt will officiate.
There are no calling hours.
