Virginia H. Norton
BARRE - Virginia H. Norton, 67, of East Street, died Saturday night, Sept. 13, 2003 at the Wood-ridge Nursing Home in Berlin.
She was born July 18, 1936 in Randolph, daughter of Harold and Thelma Ruth (Morrison) Edson. She attended Brookfield Schools.
She married Leo A. Norton on August 13, 1955 in Barre. Their married life had been spent in Brookfield and Barre Town. He died Feb. 2, 1997.
She had worked as an aid at the former White House Nursing Home in Barre and at the Petco Filling Station, also in Barre.
She enjoyed sewing and crocheting for her family. She also enjoyed playing bingo.
She was a member of the New Life Worship Center on Trow Hill.
She is survived by a son, Leo A. Norton Jr. of Cobble Hill; six daughters, Eugenia Norton, Sandra Norton, Claire Goslant and Sarah Norton all of Barre City; daughters Pamela Bresette of Barre Town, and Tina Dennis of Littleton, N.H.; fifteen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. Also survivng is a brother, Calvin Edson of Westmorland, N.H.; a half brother, Edwin "Buddy" Edson of Hope, Arkansas; sisters, Pauline Ingham and Marlene Norton, both of Barre; sisters Leona Florucci of Upper Websterville and Rose Jones of Tunbridge; and a half sister, Inez Dukette of Northfield.
She was predeceased by a brother, William Edson; four half brothers, Leo, Roy, Arthur and Theodore Edson; four sisters, Isabel Edson, Emogene and Ramona Rutledge; and Thelma Cassani.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Wilson Cemetery in Barre Town. Friends may call at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home on Thursday from 7-9 p.m.

Eugene M. Bisson
CHESTERFIELD, Mich. - Eugene M. Bisson, 74, of Chesterfield, Mich., passed away January 6, 2003 in Chesterfield.
He was born September 17, 1928 in Barre, the son of Ernest and Yvonne (LeMay) Bisson.
Mr. Bisson attended St. Michael's High School in Montpelier. He married Barbara Cliburn on September 4, 1976 in Detroit, Michigan.
He was employed as a meat cutter for the A&P and The Farmer Jack Grocery Store in Detroit until his retirement.
Mr. Bisson coached football at the Servite High School in Detroit for many years.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, of Chesterfield, Mich.; his children, Rickie of Detroit and Laura of Chesterfield, Mich.; brothers, Raymond of Barre, Norman of Barre, and Richard of Cheshire, Conn.; a sister, Corrine (Bisson) Blanchette of Tulsa, Okla.; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was predeased by his brother, Philip Bisson and two sisters, Irene Bisson and Lorriane Zile.
A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. at St. Monica's Church in Barre. Burial Services will follow at St. Sylvester's Cemetery, Graniteville afterwards.

Lloyd G. French
BARRE - Lloyd G. French, 81, of the Tilden House, died Sept 6, 2003 at the Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
He was born June 21, 1922 in Washington, son of Glenn and Elenora (Andrews) French. He attended Washington schools and completed his GED in Passiac, New Jersey.
In 1951 he married Gertrude White in Oakland, New Jersey. Following their marriage they lived in Bloomingdale, N.J. and Forest City. She died in 1987.
He was a furniture upholsterer.
He participated in the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk.
He enjoyed skiing, biking, rollerskating, and ice skating. He also worked with underprivileged children and was an active member of the Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of the Army Air Force during World War II, serving as a military policeman in The Pacific Theatre of Operations.
He had been a member of the Tri-City Baptists Church in Forest City, N.C. Survivors include his son Glenn Davis of Coatesville, Penn., two grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Larry, Walter, and Gordon French; and four sisters, Nellie Comstock, Flora Fisher, Viola Lahue, and Thelma Husson.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Vermont Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center. Internment will follow there. There are no calling hours.

Shirley B. Gassett
BRATTLEBORO - Shirley B. Gassett, 60, of Ledgewood Heights, died Tuesday afternoon, September 9, 2003 at her home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Gassett was born in Montpelier, Vt., on February 23, 1943, the daughter of Everett "Joe" and Mabel (Washburn) Bissell.
She was raised and educated in the Montpelier area and was a graduate of Montpelier High School, class of 1961. Following high school she moved to Brattleboro and attended the Thompson School for Practical Nurses graduating with the class of 1962.
She had worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, at the former Parkview Nursing Home, and for the former Home Health Services in Brattleboro. For several years she served as a Vista Volunteer.
Devoted to her faith, she was a longtime member of the Kingdom Hall Jehova's Witnesses in West Brattleboro. During her 30 years as a member of the Kingdom Hall she was very active with church activities and functions. Of her interests, she enjoyed sewing and time shared with her family, especially her grandchildren.
On December 28, 1962 at Dummerston Center Congregational Church she was married to Philip Gassett who survives.
Besides her husband of 40 years, she leaves her mother of East Montpelier; three sons, Kevin Gassett of Dummerston, Christopher Gassett of Springfield, VT, and Steven Gassett of Hinsdale, N.H.; one daughter, Dawn Penrod of Brattleboro; a brother, Steven Bissell of Tucson, AZ; one sister, Elaine Goodall of East Montpelier; eight grandchildren; and one nephew, Christopher Bissell of Tucson.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jennifer Gassett who died in July 1998.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, September 27 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall on Edward Heights in West Brattleboro with Mr. Paul Brown of the Brattleboro Kingdom Hall officiating. Burial in the family lot in the Dummerston Center Cemetery will be private. There are no calling hours at the funeral home.

Lucienne Laquerre
BARRE CITY - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday September 10, 2003 at 11 a.m. in St. Monica Church in Barre for Lucienne Laquerre of 9 Merchant Street who passed away on September 8, 2003 at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, VT.
The Rev. Peter Routhier, Pastor of the Church, was the celebrant.
Crucifer, Albert Gagnon, was altar server and also lead the Prayer of the Faithful.
Assisting as Eucharistic Minister was Sr. Theresa Ste. Marie R.S.M.
Organist, Angeline Ennis, accompanied soloists, Rita Laperle and Romeo Bilodeau in the hymns, "Amazing Grace," "My Soul is Longing," "J'irai La Voir Un Jour," "Gentle Woman" and "The Prayer of St. Francis."
The Old Testament reading was given by grandson, Scott Laquerre and Dominic Bonacorsi, a son-in-law, read from the New Testament.
Offertory gifts were presented at the altar by Stephanie Hurne, Lori Laquerre and Melanie Laquerre, all granddaughters.
Words of remembrance were offered by Tim Fontana and Tom Bonacorsi, both grandsons.
Active bearers were, Timothy Fontana, Scott Laquerre, Stephen Laquerre, Tom Bonacorsi, and Marc Hurne, all grandsons and Ronald Dion, a nephew.
The Ladies of Ste. Anne Society provided Honary Escorts at the funeral.
A Prayer Service was held Wednesday morning at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home and was led by Father Routhier.
Burial was in St. Monica Cemetery in Barre where Father Routhier offered Committal Prayers.
Following the burial a fellowship luncheon was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Barre.

Cesarina M. Cameron
CHARLESTOWN, N.H. - The committal service for Cesarina M. Cameron, 91, formerly of Paris Avenue, who died June 29, 2003 at the Sullivan County Nursing Home in Claremont, N.H., was held on Saturday, September 6, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. in the Hope Cemetery in Barre. The Rev. Tim Sargent, pastor of the East Barre Congregational Church, officiated.
Words of Remembrance were offered by nephew, Robert Lord and niece, Patricia Lawson. The hymns sung were "How Great Thou Are", "In The Garde", "Amazing Grace", and "God Will Take Care Of You".
Born July 28, 1911 in Brenno Useria, Italy, she was the daughter of Umberto and Carmela (Fontana) Magni. Her family moved from Italy to Barre where she attended school and graduated from Spaulding High School in the Class of 1929.
On August 14, 1937, she married Alfred Cameron. They lived in the Barre area until moving to Charlestown, N.H. in 1947. He died on July 14, 1997.
While in Barre, Cesarina worked at the Zampieri Granite Company and the Houle Granite Company in the drafting and bookkeeping departments. After moving to Charlestown, N.H., she was employed at the Keil Lock Company and the Charlestown Town Clerk Office as a bookkeeper.
An avid reader of the Bible, she attended the Charlestown Congregational Church. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and raised beautiful African Violets.
Survivors include her son, Gary John Cameron of Saco, ME; a sister, Antonietta "Ann" Christie of Newport, N.H.; a brother-in-law, Allen Cameron and his wife Mildred of East Barre; two sister-in-laws, Edith Mikkelsen of Williamstown and Ruth Monti of Barre; a niece and caregiver, Susan Smith of Lebanon, N.H.; several nieces and nephews.
A son Michael John Cameron, who was born in 1945, died in infancy.

BARNARD - Jay D. Hull, 41, of Barnard, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at his home.

Jessie Tacy Rites
WEBSTERVILLE - The funeral service for Jessie Stott Tacy, 90, a resident of Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin and former longtime Websterville resident, who died Thursday, September 4, 2003, in the Central Vermont Hospital, was held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home in Barre. The Rev. Elizabeth Kirkpatrick-Brucken, pastor of the Graniteville First Presbyterian Church, officiated.
The pre-recorded hymns, "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace" were played. The Eulogy was given by nephew, Douglas Lawson who also read the poem "When I Must Leave You" and friend, Pete Tucker offered personal reflections.
Internment was in the Wilson Cemetery in Websterville with Rev. Kirkpatrick-Brucken offering committal prayers. Bearers were nephews, Ansel Grandmaison, Gary Grandmaison, Jeffery Lawson, Tom Lawson, Joseph McNamee, and Peter Yankowski.
Family and friends gathered at the Hilltop Restaurant on Quarry Hill after the committal for a time of fellowship and luncheon.
Hugh H. Weedon
ADAMANT - Hugh H. Weedon, 75.
Hugh Weedon, a resident of Adamant near Montpelier for 26 years, died early on Sept. 2 surrounded by his family. Mr. Weedon's many achievements had in common his remarkable ability to make friends and enjoy life.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio. At 18 he joined the army serving in the 82nd Airborne Division in Italy until 1949. After returning home he was graduated from Williams College in 1953. He met Barbara Schwanda, a freshman at Bennington College, in 1949 and married her in New York City in 1954. Hugh and Barbara then lived in New York City and Short Hills New Jersey while their three children, Sarah, Kate and Peter were born and Hugh worked for Chase Manhattan Bank and the brokerage firm of Shields & Co.
Mr. Weedon's experience as a banker and stock broker prepared him for the greater part of his career as an extraordinarily successful marketer and distributor of mutual funds. After moving to Wayne, Pennsylvania in 1965, Mr. Weedon worked for Wellington Management Company as Assistant to the President and later Vice President. He later became a Vice President at Franklin Funds. Mr. Weedon believed in mutual funds as fundamental saving and investment tool. He was a friend and valued colleague of investors and brokers throughout the northeast United States.
In 1978 while continuing in his work, Mr. Weedon and his family moved to Adamant, Vermont. He and Barbara built an energy efficient, wood stove-heated house and joined the community life of Vermont. Hugh became a board member of the Red Cross and continued his work for the Red Cross during the next 24 years as member of boards and committees and as Chair. He served as Chair of the Vermont State Service Council representing the three Red Cross Chapters in Vermont and as Chair of the Board of the Northern New England Service Council which represents Red Cross chapters in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. He received the Red Cross Regional Service Award in 2003 and was inducted into the Henri Dunant Society of the Red Cross.
Mr. Weedon knew that one of the necessities for a charitable organization is raising money. While he recognized that asking donors for money was unappealing to many, he reveled in his ability to successfully ask donors to support the organizations he valued, particularly, the Red Cross and Williams College for which he served as its Alumni Fund Class Agent, Vice Chair and Chair.
Mr. Weedon supported many other community organizations serving on the Board of the Barre Opera Company and a founding member of its Friends of Classical Music.. He served on the Boards of Scholarship, Inc. of the New England Culinary Institute and the Onion River Arts Council. In 2003 the Montpelier Chamber of Commerce named him Citizen of the Year. Mr. Weedon daily enjoyed his support of the New England Culinary Institute. When in Vermont he lunched at NECI's restaurant The Chef's Table and enjoyed greeting his many Montpelier friends. Mr. Weedon was a member of Christ Church in Montpelier.
Mr. Weedon is survived by his wife Barbara, his daughters Sarah Boote of Merion, Pennsylvania and Kate Weedon of San Jose, California his son, Peter Weedon, of Craftsbury, Vermont and grandchildren Amanda, Alexander and Susannah Boote and Sam and Tyler Weedon.
A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church, Montpelier on Saturday, September 6 at 11 am. Internment will be private. Richard Heath
WATERBURY - Richard F. Heath, 60, of Waterbury, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, after a long illness. He was born Nov. 28, 1942, in Winsted, Conn. He was the son of the late Luther and Thelma (Thompson) Heath. He grew up in Colchester. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Smith, Lowe) Heath; his children, Garlinde Smith and her husband, John; Sherrie Lowe and Bud Towndrow; Dwight Lowe and his wife, Barbara, and Robin Heath, all of Waterbury; Norman Lowe of Maine, and Richard Heath III and Deborah Caswell of Nevada; two brothers, William Heath and his wife, Delores, of Florida and Thomas Heath and his wife, Sandra, of Nevada; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Kenneth Lowe, in 1974 a granddaughter, Judith Ann Smith in 1992 and his sister, Shirley LeBouef in 2000.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Sept. 6 at his home, 181 Kneeland Flats Trailer Park at noon.

Nancy Brunell
MORETOWN - Nancy Hough Brunell - 44, of River Road, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends on Monday, September 1, 2003. Born in Berlin on May 3, 1959, she was the daughter of Richard and Ruth (Smith) Hough. On July 16, 1977, she married Ted M. Brunell in Waterbury.
Nancy was a 1977 graduate of Harwood Union High School in Duxbury. She went to work at the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury where she was a technical aide until 1985. She and her husband worked together in their automotive repair business, Ted's Kar Kare in Waterbury where it was not only her vocation but her favorite pasttime as well.
Fond of traveling, she and her husbnd were avid Harley Davidson enthusiasts. She very much enjoyed herself with her large family and many friends.
Nancy is survived by her husband Ted; their children, Camie Brunell, Seth Brunell and Chad Brunell, all of Moretown; 2 grandchildren; her parents, Richard and Ruth Hough of Waterbury; 3 sisters, Carol Barber of Waterbury, Sandra Hough of Waterbury Center, and Wendy Magee of Duxbury; 2 brothers, Harley Hough of Burlington and Gary Hough of Waterbury Center; as well as nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from the Wesley United Methodist Church on Friday at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held from the church on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. Interment

Janice Jones Emmons
MONTPELIER - Janice Jones Emmons, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died at home on August 31, 2003 after a courageous 2-year battle with lung cancer.
She was born to Burnham & Helen (Barclay) Jones on June 13, 1936 in Montpelier. She graduated from Montpelier High School in 1954 and in 1955 married Richard "Buzz" Emmons. Janice assisted her husband in building a successful tree service business while raising 5 children. Janice served many community organizations including the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and the Alzheimer's Association. She also volunteered at Bethany Congregational Church for many years. She was a member of the Montpelier Emblem Club #369.
Janice cherished her grandchildren and enjoyed holidays surrounded by her family. She was an avid gardener who spent many hours enjoying her hobby. She took great pleasure in traveling and especially appreciated wintr months at her home in Florida.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Richard A. Emmons, her children Cindy Bullard and her husband Stephen of Barre Town, Marcia Haggett and husband John of Lake Elmore, JoAnne B. Emmons of Willits, CA, Gail Brosseau and husband Buddy of Colchester, Richard H. Emmons and wife Deborah of Middlesex, grandchildren Jeremy Haggett and fianceé Lori Martin and daughter Taylor, Joshua Haggett, Rachel Emmons-Bradley, Isaac Gardner, Eric Benda, Brittany Lafirira, Madisyn Emmons, and a great-grandson Caleb Powers. Brothers, Thomas Jones and wife Barbara of Derby, Carlton Jones and wife Christina of Berlin, Douglas Jones and wife Virginia of Montpelier, and sister-in-law Shirley Jones of Roswell N.M. Janice is predeceased by her parents and her brother Stanley Jones.

Alma Garcia
BARRE - Alma M. Garcia, 88, a long time resident of Smith Street, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003 at the Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia, N.H.
She was born Sept. 27, 1914 in Barre, daughter of Peter and Carmelina (Abbiati) Abbiati. She attended Barre schools.
On Oct. 27, 1940 she married Julio Garcia in Barre. Most of their married life had been spent in Barre. He died Feb. 7, 1977.
In earlier years, she had worked at the former Rock of Ages Capacitor Plant and the C and C Clothiers with her husband. She later was a sales clerk at the Capital Stationers, retiring in 1999.
She enjoyed dancing and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She liked to travel, especially to Hampton Beach.
She belonged to St. Monica Church , Ruth Chapter #33 OES and the Montpelier Emblem Club.
Survivors include a son Jeffrey Garcia and his wife Susan of Peru, New York and 3 daughters, Gloria Jacobs and her husband Ray of Colchester, Anita Bergeron of Barre and Carlene Roy and her husband, Robert of Laconia, N.H., with whom Alma made her home for the past 4 years; 9 grandchildren: Rodney, James, Mark and Crystal Roy, Brian and Jodi Jacobs, Laurie Bergeron and Brandi and Callie Garcia and 9 great-grandchildren; and 2 nieces and a nephew.
She was predeceased by her brother, Antonio Abbiati.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Monica Church. Burial will follow in the Hope Cemetery.

Nethelia Magwire
CASTLETON - Mrs. Nethelia Sherman Magwire (Net), 90, peacefully passed away, surrounded by her family, Sunday morning, August 31, 2003. She was a ten-year resident, with Alz-heimer's, of Mountain View Center Genesis Elder Care in Rutland, VT
Net was born in Castleton, Vt August 18, 1913, the daughter of the late Frank and Hazel (Benedict) Sherman. She was a graduate of Fair Haven High School and Castleton Normal School now Castleton State College.
She married her husband Mr. Raymond B. Magwire in Springfield, VT in 1936.
She taught at schools in several Vermont towns including Barre, Plainfield, East Montpelier, and Fair Haven. She was the first tutor for the State of Vermont for homebound children. Nethelia, and her husband taught square dancing in their Montpelier home for many years.
Net loved the outdoors, children and camping. She loved to swim and is remembered by many people from Fair Haven as the woman who taught them how to swim at Sherman's Beach on Lake Bomoseen. She was both a Girl and Boy Scout Leader. Together with her husband, she was a director of Camp Owanyaka (Fair Haven Community Camp) for ten years, and served as the activities director at a camp in Michigan for many summers.
She was a woman of incredible faith and a long-time member of the Trinity Methodist Church in Montpelier. She was the founder of the Vermont's Christian Woman's Club and the Director of the Vermont Church World Service Organization.
Net was a beloved mother and grandmother and held a special place in her heart for children, the outdoors and especially Lake Bomoseen. Her love lives on in her son Jay R. Magwire, of Hydeville, her two grand daughters Pamela M. Smith, of Rhode Island, and the Rev. Kimberly B. Magwire, of Illinois, as well as her three great-grandsons, Michael, David, and Ryan Smith, of Rhode Island.
Graveside services in celebration and thanksgiving for her life were held on Wednesday, September 3, 2003 in Hillside Cemetery, in Castleton at 9:30 A.M. the Rev Marshal Hudson Knapp and the Rev. Kimberly Magwire will officiate.
The family has requested that flowers be omitted.

Charles Stephen
MONTPELIER - Charles S. Stephen, 97, of 85 Woodcrest Road, Montpelier, VT, and formerly of Lynnfield, MA, died on Monday, September 1, 2003, at Berlin Health & Rehabilitation Center, after several months of failing health. Charlie was born in Revere, MA on June 17, 1906, the eldest son of James C. and Alice (Stedman) Stephen.
He is survived by his adored wife of 74 years, Barbara (Hill) Stephen of Montpelier.
He is also survived by his three sons and their wives, Charles, Jr., and Pat of Lincoln, NE and Owls Head, ME, Sanders H. and Mary L. of Braintree, VT, and Mark L. and Susan O. of East Montpelier, VT. In addition, he is survived by his 9 grandchildren, Deborah of Lincoln, NE, Susan of Upper Marlboro, MD, David of Duluth, MN, Karl of Parker, CO, Bruce of Lincoln, NE, Melissa of Montague, MA, Joshua of Braintree, VT and Andrew and Liz, both of East Montpelier, VT. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two brothes, Richard of Laconia, NH and James of Palm Coast, FL, and two sisters. Nadine Booker of Harwich, MA and Dorothy Gile of Reading, MA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Charlie had been General Manager of Hill & Co./Melrose News, located in Melrose and Wakefield, MA for over 45 years, before beginning a wonderful retirement with Barbara.
A memorial service will be held at the Old Meetinghouse in East Montpelier, VT on Setember 28, 2003 at 1:30 p.m.

Anna Hill
CHELSEA - A funeral service for Anna B. Hill, who died Aug. 23, 2003, at the Rowan Court Nursing Home in Barre, was held Thursday at the United Church of Chelsea.
The Rev. Douglas Moore of the Norwich Congregational Church officiated.
Many friends and relatives shared remembrances.
Burial was at Highland Cemetery in Chelsea.
Will Dodge, Dennis Hill, Steve Hill and Bob Blight, all nephews, were bearers.
Family and friends gathered in the church hall for a time of fellowship, hosted by the Chelsea Hospitality Committee, the West Hill DoYour Best Club and the Lady Washington Chapter #86 of Chelsea.
Raymond Willey Jr.
NORTHFIELD - Graveside services for Raymond A. Willey Jr., 71, who died Aug. 29, 2003, at Mayo Healthcare in Northfield, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Vermont Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center.
Charlotte Clifton
WATERBURY CENTER - Charlotte Barney Clifton - 94, passed away at the Rowan Court Nursing Home in Barre on Saturday evening, August 30, 2003. Born in Swanton on December 25, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Don and Ida Jane (Morse) Barney. On October 19, 1935, she married James Clifton, who predeceased her on February 29, 1992.
Moving to Duxbury in 1910 with her family, Charlotte attended Duxbury schools and was a graduate of Waterbury High School in 1926. She continued her education, attending Montpelier Seminary, Eastern State Normal School in Castine ME, and the University of Vermont, graduating in 1952 with her Bachelor of Science degree. She taught for many years in the elementary schools of Duxbury, Moretown, Waterbury and Montpelier, where she retired in 1974. Staying active beyond retirement, Charlotte worked for Hunger Mountain Day Care in Waterbury Center and Waterbury for a number of years.
Her memberships included the Wesley United Methodist Church, was a member and Past Matron of Queen Esther Chapter #7 OES, the Vermont Retired Teachers Assoc., the Washington County Retired Teachers Assoc., was a past member of Waterbury Grange #237, Harmony Pamona Grange #49, Vermont State Grange and the National Grange, and she was a past members of the teachers organization Delta Kappa Gamma - Delta chapter of Vermont.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 sisters, Ella Wrisley and Marion Guild; and a brother, Friend "Bud" Barney. She is also survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Virginia Martin and her husband, Waldo of Concord NH, and Della Clifton of Waterbury.
Funeral services will be held from the Wesley United Methodist Church on Monday, September 8, 2003, at 10 a.m. There will be no calling hours. Interment
will take place in Graves Cemetery in North Duxbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church, PO Box 214, Waterbury VT 05676. Claire Copping Rites
MONTPELIER - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Frances Cabrini Catholic church in East Barre for Claire C. Copping, 68, of Moonlight Terrace and a former East Barre resident, who died Tuesday, August 26, 2003, in the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin. The Rev. Donald Roy, pastor, was the celebrant.
Organist, Jeanette DeForge accompanied soloist, Rosemary Badeau in the hymns, "I Love You Lord," "Seek Ye First," "How Great Thou Art," "Ave Maria," "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman" and "You Are Mine."
Niece, Mary Beth Carey, offered Words of Remembrance. The scripture readings from the Old and New Testament were by nephews, Thomas Dion and Michael Dion; the Responsorial Psalm was by niece, Marcia Dion; and the Prayer of the Faithful was by nephew, N. Michael Dion. The offertory gifts were presented at the altar by N. Michael Dion, Matt Dion, Mary Beth Carey, Marcia Dion, Thomas Dion, Melissa Ward, Andrea Dion, and Michael Dion, all nephews and nieces.
Interment
took place in the Plain-Mont Cemetery in East Montpelier with Rev. Roy offering the committal prayers. Honorary bearers were nephews N. Michael Dion, Matt Dion, Thomas Dion, Michael Dion and Jay Copping and brother-in-law Clayton Copping.
A time of fellowship and a luncheon for family and friends at the Hilltop Restaurant on Quarry Hill followed the committal service.
The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre was in charge of the arrangements.
Aurora Bardosi
BARRE - Committal services for Aurora C. Bardosi, who died Aug. 1, 2003, were held Friday at the Hope Cemetery in Barre.
The Rev. Herman Benjamin, pastor of the Hedding United Methodist Church, officiated.
Several members of the congregation offered words of remembrance.
Marlin Chiodi
BARRE TOWN - A Service of Remembrance was held Thursday at 3:00 p.m. in the Barre Congregational Church for Marlin M. Chiodi of Balsam Drive, who died Aug. 24, 2003 at the Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin.
The Rev. David Vanderlinde-Abernathy, pastor of the Church, officiated. Words of remembrance were offered by her brother, Richard Meigs and family friend, John Corning. Ushers in the church were Wendell Rose, Robert Tucker, Peter Sherlock and James corning.
Organist Eric Giles accompanied the congregation in the hymns "Morning Has Broken," "I Was There To Hear Your borning Cry" and "Let There Be Peace on Earth." A special musical selection, "Wind Beneath My Wings," was sung by granddaughters Lauren and Sara Chiodi.
Fellowship and refreshments followed in the church dining room.
The committal service preceded the church service in the Hope Cemetery. The bearers were Michael Meigs, Dr. Donald Sherman, Robert Fitzgerald, John Nicholls, George Karnedy, Richard Finn and John Corning.
The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home was in charge.
