Dorothy Lutz
PIERMONT, N.H. - Dorothy Anna Lutz, 94, of Norwich and formerly of Piermont, died Aug. 18, 2003, at the Brookside Nursing Home in Wilder.
She was born April 5, 1909, in Toledo, Ohio, the youngest daughter of Johan Heinrich and Eliza (Moellman) Blausey.
She attended the Woodville Normal School in Woodville, Ohio.
She worked at The Toledo Trust after her graduation.
She married Robert L. Lutz Sr. in 1937 in Woodville. They lived there until 1949, when they moved to Bronxville, N.Y., in 1969 they moved to Piermont, N.H. She resided at the Valley Terrace in Norwich for the past two years. Her husband died April 13, 1995.
Survivors include her son Timothy Lutz of Crowle, North Lincolnshire, U.K.; nieces and nephews.
A son Robert L. Lutz Jr. is deceased.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hale Funeral Home in Bradford. The Rev. Harvey Bartlett will officiate.
There will be no calling hours.
Burial will be at the clay Hollow Cemetery in Piermont.

Gertrude M. LaPerle
ORLANDO, Fla. and formerly of West Hill in Barre - Gertrude L. LaPerle, 91, of 7511 Forest City Road, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2003 at the Florida Hospital South in Orlando, Fla.
Born in Warwick, Quebec on November 2, 1911, she was the daughter of Napoleon and Anna (Caron) Desrochers.
She attended schools in Warwick, Que. She worked as a nurse for 6 years in Montreal.
On June 27, 1940 she married Romeo J. LaPerle in Montreal, Que.
They had made their home in the Barre area, where she and her husband owned and operated a farm on West Hill for many years.
In 1973, they moved to Lake Worth, Fla. They later owned and operated two apartment houses, in Florida, for several years.
She was a member of St. Monica Church and the Ladies of Ste. Anne Society of Barre and also a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Lake Worth, Fla.
She enjoyed spending precious time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed dancing and singing. She was a very caring and giving person.
Survivors include two sons, Adrien and his wife Aline LaPerle of Barre; Raymond and his wife Linda LaPerle of Barre Town; two daughters, Lise and her husband Germain DeSerres of South Barre; Jeannine and her husband Bill Walker of Orlando, Fla.; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Gertrude is also survived by two brothers, Erphir Desrochers and Marcel Desrochers; one sister, Cecile Laroche, all of Warwick, Que. and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Romeo J. Laperle, who passed away on November 13, 2000; one son, John LaPerle, four brothers, Gustave Desrochers, Arsene Desrochers, Phillip Desrochers, Onil Desrochers; three sisters, Margerite Desrochers, Leona Cote and Germaine Desrochers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Monica Church in Barre on Thursday at 11 a.m.
Family and friends may call at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. with a Prayer Service to be held at 8:15 p.m.; along with the Ladies of Ste. Anne Society to recite the Rosary.
Burial will be in St. Monica Cemetery in Barre, Vt.

BETHEL - Graveside services for Beatrice W. Eckson, who died July 7, 2003, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Vermont Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center.

Alice Earl
BARRE - Alice L. Earl, 94, of the Jefferson Apartments, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin.
She was born Nov. 5, 1908, in Barre, daughter of George and Albina (Marrion) Long. She graduated from Concord N.H. High School in 1926.
On July 10, 1933 she married E. Douglass Earl in Barre, where they had since made their home. He died May 9, 2000.
She had worked as a secretary at the Rock of Ages Corp. and a bookkeeper at the former Howe Dry Cleaners in Barre.
She enjoyed knitting, embroidery, fishing and summering at Joe's Pond. She had been affiliated with the First Baptist Church of Barre.
She is survived by a nephew, Douglas Long, of South Barre. Also surviving are her close friends and caregivers, Mary Brady Hart and Kim Fitzgerald of Moretown and William and Dale Morgan of Barre.
She is predeceased by a brother Raymond Long and a sister Marion.
A Graveside Service will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the Hope Cemetery in Barre.

Margaret Goulette
BARRE - Margaret L. Goulette, 93, of Merchant Street, died Monday, August 18, 2003, at the Berlin Health and Rehabili-tation Center.
She was born Sept. 5, 1909, in Orange, the daughter of Harley and Agnes (Dunlop) Barnes. She attended schools in Orange and graduated from Montpelier Seminary.
On June 15, 1928, she married William T. Goulette in Orange. Most of their married life had been spent in Orange. He died Jan. 10, 1955. Following his death she made her home at her present address.
She had worked at the former Sprague Electric Company in Barre, retiring in 1972 after 24 years of service.
Margaret enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She had won many awards for her sewing and craft work. She loved to read and was well-versed in current affairs.
She always had plenty of homemade goodies for her visitors and her cat Sarah was a great comfort and friend. When she and her husband lived on the family farm in Orange, they were some of the early hosts of the Fresh Air Children's Program.
She had been affiliated with the Orange Congregational Church. She was a 60-year and life member of the Riverside Grange #455 in West Topsham and had held several offices. She was also a member of the Central Vermont Pomona Grange, as well as the Vermont State Grange and the National Grange.
She was also a member and Past President of the Orange Home Demonstration Group.
Survivors include 3 daughters: Barbara Beede of Lynchburg, VA; Margaret Richardson and her husband Kermit of Orange and Vivian Butler and her husband Francis of Berlin; and 3 sons: William Goulette of Orange; Stephen Goulette of Barre and Thomas Goulette and his wife Janet of Belmont, N.H.
Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren and a sister Mavis Demas of Longwood, Fla. and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband she was predeceased by 2 children, her parents, a brother, Raymond Barnes and 3 grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Orange Alliance Church. Burial will follow in the Orange Center Cemetery.

WOODSTOCK - A graveside service was held, Friday August 15, 2003, at Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock for Patricia A. Murray, who passed away on August 11, 2003, at her daughter's home in Newbury, Vermont.

She was born January 3, 1950, in Woodstock, the daughter of Paul and Grace (Morrill) Widmer. She was a very young child when the family moved to Washington, Vermont, where she grew up. She attended grade school in Washington and High School in Chelsea.
She married Durwood Collier in 1967 and had two children Mark Collier of Barre and Robin Allard of Newbury. She later divorced and has for the last six years made her home with her friend Gordon Thresher in Barre.
Survivors include a son Mark Collier of Barre, a daughter Robin Allard of Newbury, three brothers: Paul Widmer of Orange, David Widmer of Barre and Thomas Widmer of Island Pond, two sisters Carol LaValley of Franklin, New Hampshire and Judy Harper of Washington, two grandsons, Tannr Allard and Jordan Allard and one granddaughter, Grace Allard, all of Newbury, her friend Gordon Thresher of Barre, many nieces and nephews. There is also one aunt, Catherine Martin of Williamstown.
Her parents Paul and Grace Widmer, Robert Widmer, James Widmer and Fredrick Widmer, both paternal and maternal grandparents are deceased.

Rodney Allen Kurutza
RANDOLPH - Rodney Allen Kurutza, 50, died Friday at the Gifford Medical Center.
He was born on March 9, 1953, in Rahway, N.J., the son of Charles and Irene (Brizak) Kurutza.
He attended Rahway schools before becoming an auto mechanic and a welder. He moved to Vermont in 1988.
Kurutza enjoyed fishing, gardening, drawing, crafts, woodworking and boating on the ocean.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary Kurutza of South Amboy N.J., Cindy Rosen of Harrisburg, Pa., Pamela Kurutza of Barre and Marie Kurutza of Randolph Center; two brothers, Charlie Kurutza of Bethel and John Kurutza of Toms River, N.J.; two sisters, Gail Steele of Poconos, Pa., and Carol Toffe of Toms River, N.J.; and two grandchildren.

Diane Marie Gardner
DALLAS - Diane Marie Gardner, 48, died Tuesday after a long battle with multiple sclerosis.
She was born on Oct. 20, 1954, in Montpelier, the daughter of Richard Wheeler and Cecelia Duquette.
She graduated from U-32 High School in 1971 and Champlain Business College, Summa Cum Laude. She married Marshall D. Gardner in Dallas on June 29, 1983.
She was the state's attorney general's assistant in Vermont before she moved to Texas in 1975. There she worked as an executive assistant for Fina Oil and in the legal department for GLF Oil. She later was vice president and CFO of AIC International Corporation.
She enjoyed baking and taking care of her children. She was a member of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband and two children, David James Gardner and Kenneth Richard Gardner of Dallas; her parents; two sisters, Bernardine Mae Klein and Melissa Jane Wheeler; two brothers, Ernest Charles Wheeler and Brian Keith Wheeler.
There are no calling hours. There will be two memorial services, one on Aug. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Lovers Lane United Methodist Church in Dallas; the second will be held Aug. 30 at MacKenzie Memorial Methodist Church in Berlin, Vt.

William George Guy Sr.
LAKE PLACID, Fla. - William George Guy Sr., 85, of Lake Placid, Fla., died Aug. 9.
He married Vera Weeks of Barre in 1994 and they lived in Barre for 25 years before retiring to Florida 22 years ago.
He served in the Mounted Cavalry of the Army for three years before joining the Navy for six years. He left the Navy as a First Class Petty Officer.
He owned and operated Guy's Custom Sandblast in Barre for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Virginia Guy of Lake Placid, Louise Torres of Paola, Ky., and Phyllis Hart of Barre; three sons, Jerry of New Bern, N.C., David of Barre, and William Jr. of Derry, N.H; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, Genevieve Curry and Gorden Roscoe Guy of Woodbury; three brothers, Gorden Henry and Robert; and a sister Virginia.
Pastor David Wright conducted a private service at the family homestead in Barre on Aug. 10. He will be laid to rest at the Wilson Cemetery in Lower Websterville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Vermont, Chapter 338, River Street, Montpelier, Vt. 05602.
Genevieve LeBourveau
WATERBURY - Genevieve I. LeBourveau - 71, passed away at the Green Mountain Nursing Home in Col-chester on Sunday, August 10, 2003. Born in Mont-pelier on August 14, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Ida (Thomas) Izor. On June 30, 1960, she married John C. LeBourveau Sr. in New Hampshire. Mr. LeBourveau passed away on October 17, 1992.
Genevieve was a 1949 graduate of Waterbury High School. As a young woman she lived in Winooski while working as a dispatcher for the Vermont State Police in Williston. Following her marriage, she and John lived in Waterbury where she worked at the Vermont State Hospital as a bookkeeper for many years. Working briefly for Dr. Bill Dean in Montpelier, she became the bookkeeper for the Harwood Union High School in Duxbury, retiring in 1984.
Her leisure time was spent enjoying her family, playing Bingo and cards, crocheting and knitting as well as watching her afternoon soap operas. Her memberships included St. Andrew Catholic Church of Waterbury and the Montpelier Elks Club.
Genevieve is survived by her children, Julie Atwood and her husband, Mike of Waterbury, Jacqueline Carroll and her husband, Raymond, of Burlington, and John C. LeBourveau Jr. and his wife, Laurie of Essex Jct.; 6 grandchildren, Brittany Carroll, Jordan Carroll, Cody Atwood, Tyler Atwood, Sydney LeBourveau, and Rylee LeBourveau; 2 sisters, Marion Coffin and her husband, Robert of Waterbury, Selma Carpenter and her husband, Andrew of Waterbury Center; 3 brothers, Calime Izor of Plymouth N.H., Richard Izor and his wife, Rena of Waterbury, and Robert Izor and his wife Betty of Barre; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Charles Izor, a sister, Emma Clifton, and a granddaughter, Haley LeBourveau.

GAYSVILLE - Dana E. Michaud, 78, died Aug. 11, 2003, at the Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
He was born Feb. 24, 1925, in Limestone, Maine, the son of Thomas E. and Grace (Cloutier) Michaud Sr.
He attended schools in New Hampshire and graduated from Spaulding High School in Rochester, N.H.
He married Doris Smith July 4, 1953. They later divorced.
Mr. Michaud was a self-employed carpenter in the Bethel-Stockbridge area.
He was a member of the Noble Beckwith Post #66 American Legion in Bethel, the Hancock Veterans of Foreign Wars, the White River Disabled American Veterans, the National Rifle Association, the Sportsman Alliance of Maine and the White River Rod and Gun Club of Bethel.
Survivors include his former wife of Randolph; a son Peter G. Michaud of Bethel; two daughters, Sandra Michaud of Randolph and Cynthia Miller of California; a brother Tom Michaud of Stockbridge; and four grandchildren.
Two brothers, Lewis Michaud and Henry Michaud, and three sisters, Katherine Hartshorn, Alice Varney and Ruth Parrent, are deceased.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center. The Rev. John Milanese will officiate.

Philip Tracy
WHITING - Philip W. Tracy, 55, died Aug. 8, 2003, at his home on Stickney Road.
He was born Feb. 2, 1948, in Randolph, the son of Philip and Thelma (Wade) Tracy.
He graduated from Waterbury High School.
He was first married to Kathy Collins. He married Lois Benjamin July 7, 1988, in Middlebury.
Mr. Tracy served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam from 1966 until 1970.
He worked as a carpenter for Bread Loaf Corp. of Middlebury for many years.
He was a member of the American Legion.
He enjoyed carpentry, picking blackberries and family gatherings.
Survivors include his wife of Whiting; his mother Thelma Putnam of Berlin; five children, Christopher Tracy and Joshua Tracy, both of Whiting, Tracilee Tracy of Waltham, Mass, Matthew Tracy of Berkshire and Adam Tracy of Enosburg; two stepsons, Kevin Howland of Massachusetts and David Howland of Rutland; a brother, Steven Tracy of Waterbury; two sisters, Annette Menard of Northfield and Regina Stewart of Nevada; two half brothers, Eugene Putnam of Oklahoma and Dennis Putnam of New Hampshire and two grandchildren.
His brother Bruce Tracy is deceased.
A gathering of his life will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the American Legion in Middlebury.

Woliver of 107 William Lyford Road, who passed away on August 3, 2003 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

Full Military Honors were held by the Vermont Air National Guard of Colchester, Vt. The American Flag was presented to Joyce Woliver, wife of the deceased, by OFC. Ricky Trayah, SLT. Firing element were, John Boardman, SFL; Timothy Hodes, CWZ; Norm Larose, SFC; Michael Mayo, SGT; Patty E. Senman, SFC and Jennifer Zelco, SGT.

Joe Kopylec from Northford, Conn., representing the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 8294, led the Veterans Prayer at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, Thursday afternoon.

Carl Andrew Herschel
On Saturday evening, August 9, 2003, C. Andrew Herschel, 93, passed away quietly at his home on Woodcrest Road, Montpelier, VT.
He was born Novem-ber 16, 1909 in Philadel-phia, PA, the son of Carl and Elizabeth (Shinkel) Herschel. He attended Philadelphia schools and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1931.
On January 17, 1935 he married Mary Louise Swain of Philadelphia. From this union came three children. Mrs. Thomas P. (Carol) Straus of Austin, TX; James A. Herschel of Cinnaminson, N.J.; and Mrs. Leonard C. (Elisabeth) Gambler of Montpelier, VT. He leaves eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
His first wife, Louise, died of cancer in 1969 and he subsequently married Jean Stewart George of Montpelier, VT, mother of Mrs. Helen Cameron of London, England and Margo George of Montpelier. Jean died of cancer in 1979 and he subsequently married Lucille Jones Moore of Barre, VT, mother of Melissa Moore of Baltimore, MD and Glenn Moore of Barre.
After graduation from college, Andrew worked in the head office of the Colonial Life Insurance Company in Jersey City, NJ, attaining the title of Assistant Secretary. In 1945 he and his family moved to Montpelier, VT when he transferred to the head office of National Life Insurance Company. A one time Secretary of the company, he retired in 1974 as Vice President, Policyholder Service.
Andrew was active in community and church affairs, having serviced as Cub-master; Sunday School Superintendent; Alderman and President of the Montpelier City Council; Chairman of the Governor’s Committee on Children and Youth; a Director of the Vermont Council on World Affairs; a director of the Insurance Accounting and Statistical Association; Vermont-New Hampshire area representative of the American Field Service (AFS); 1978 fund chairman of the United Way of Washington County and five-year treasurer of the Vermont Division of the American Cancer Society.
Active in Rotary circles, Andrew was President of the Montpelier Rotary Club 1958-1959 and Governor of Rotary District 785, 1961-1962. A Paul Harris Fellow, he was treasurer of District 785 for many years.
As a result of hosting an AFS student from Norway in 1959-1960, the entire Herschel family has forged strong ties with the Norwegian family with many visits to each side of the Atlantic.
Deferring to Andrew’s request there will be no funeral or memorial service. A private service at the convenience of the family, will be held at Fourth Lake in New York’s Adirondacks.

Alice Crippen
MONTPELIER – Alice Crippen, 82, a longtime resident of Orchard Park, N.Y., who moved to Montpelier in 1996, died Aug. 9, 2003, at the Mayo Nursing Home in Northfield.
She was born March 31, 1921, in Allegheny, Penn., the daughter of Melvin and Margaret (Dennis) Fry.
She graduated from Ohio State University.
She married William Crippen. He died May 22, 1997.
Mrs. Crippen was a member of the Orchard Park (N.Y.) Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter Barbara Crippen of Worcester and a sister Nancy Childers of Post, Texas.
A son William Dennis Crippen is deceased.
Private services will be at the convenience of the family.

Thelma Dickinson
BRAINTREE – Thelma L. Dickinson, 92, of Braintree, died Aug. 9, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
She was born July 1, 1911, in Roxbury, the daughter of Frank and Hattie (Flint) Rabtoy.
She attended schools in Roxbury and Northfield.
She married Floyd L. Dickinson Nov. 3, 1928, in Roxbury. He died in 1986.
Mrs. Dickinson worked as a teachers’ assistant in Roxbury, at Dickerman’s Mill in East Granville and at Salisbury Furniture Co. and Van Raalte, both in Randolph. She retired from the Waterbury Co. in Randolph in 1976.
She enjoyed knitting, tatting and crocheting.
Survivors include Nadine Royce of Braintree, Rosiland Sumner of Randolph and Carolyn Goldsmith of East Dummerston; a sister Ona Dickinson of Roxbury; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Hollis Rabtoy and Clyde Rabtoy, are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Thursday at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
Burial will be at the Roxbury Cemetery.
Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Gerald Cummings Pease
MIDDLESEX - The entire Middlesex community mourns the passing of Gerald Cummings Pease, 87, on Aug. 9, 2003 at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation home.
He was born Aug. 11, 1915, at the Cummings farmhouse in Shady Rill, Middlesex, to Lester W. and Bertha (Cummings) Pease and attended Middlesex schools. His mother died when he was 11 years old, and at 13 he began working for his Uncle George and Aunt Anna on the Cummings farm. In late March, 1937, the family moved to the Pease farm on Culver Hill.
Gerald joined the Middlesex Grange 80 when he was 14 and received his 70-year membership pin, including many years of service as Master and on the installing team. In the 1940¡¦s, he worked for two winters on chicken farms in Massachusetts and Connecticut, and then continued farming fulltime, where he eventually built up a nice mixed herd of about 30, adding acreage of other area farms.
Gerald served as a member, moderator, deacon and faithful firetender at the Shady Rill Baptist Church for many years. He also served the town of Middlesex as a lister and fence viewer.
Gerald will be remembered for being a character and having a great sense of humor. Two of his greatest pleasures were pulling boulders out of fields and pulling neighbors and strangers out of snowbanks with his trusty John Deere tractor. He also greatly enjoyed being a world traveler, having toured Scandinavia, Russia, Europe, Canada, and extensively by rail in the United States. One of the last dairy farmers in town, he enjoyed being in the spotlight. His picture appeared in the Boston Globe and Vermont Life Magazine, and he made appearances on WCAX TV and WDEV radio station, always with his signature departure line, 'How ¡¥bout that.'
He leaves his sister, Ellen Florella Pease, 94. They each lived their separate lives but shared the Culver Hill farmhouse and cared for each other for many years. His sister, Dorothy Pease Morrison, 92, of Lower Waterford, Vt., died on Aug. 4, 2003. He also leaves a nephew and three nieces.
Calling hours will be at the Guare and Sons Funeral Home on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. and the funeral service will be held at the Shady Rill Baptist Church in Middlesex at 2 p.m. on his birthday, Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, with committal following in the North Branch Cemetery where he served for many years as president and sexton.
