Echo McMahan, of Newport, passed away at her home August 10, 2000, at the age of 88.
She was employed at Camp Carson Baptist Assembly from 1958 until 1983. She was also employed at Edgemont Elementary for a few years.
She was the oldest member of Wilsonville Baptist Church in Carson Springs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anderson McMahan; and her sons, Chandler and Jimmy McMahan. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Fletcher and Irene Coggins Ford; her sisters, Mayme Holt, Rhoda Phillips, and Dorothy and Inez Ford; and her brothers, Jackson, Arthur, Doyle and Lattie Ford.
She is survived by sons and daughters, Barbara McCrary of Nashville, Tennessee; Gordon McMahan of Newport; Mary Frances Johnson of Lebanon, Tennessee; Wendell McMahan of Port Elizabeth, New Jersey; Betty Payne of Hot Springs, North Carolina; and Don McMahan of Nashville, Tennessee; sister, Gladys Brown of Newport; brothers, Boyd Ford of Key West, Florida; Henry Ford of Mosheim; Edsel Ford of Cosby; and Lon Ford of Cosby. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren and numerous great - grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Adam Sanders and Rev. F.M. Blevins officiating. Interment
will be at Clark Cemetery in Hartford.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Brown Funeral Home.

Alma Beulah Lane, 93, of Newport, died Monday at the Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by son, Richard Lane.
She is survived by daughters, Mable Hightower of Newport and Fannie Folsom of Morristown; sons, Hubert and Burnett Lane of Newport; sisters, Ruby Shoemaker of Newport and Edith Mills of Charlotte, North Carolina; also 12 grandchildren; 14 great - grandchildren; and three great - great - grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Manes Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Hal Kirk and Rev. J.D. Sisk officiating. Interment
will be in the Open Door Cemetery.

Anna Faye Ottinger Smelcer, 57, passed away Tuesday at her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dolph and Pauline Ottinger; brothers, Homer Alvin and Franklin Ottinger; and sister, Linda Marie Ottinger.
She is survived by her husband, Kimball Smelcer of Chestnut Hill; daughters, Penny Lee of Newport and Dawn Lee of Chestnut Hill; brothers and sisters-in-law, L.D. and Rhonda Ottinger of Newport, Arnold and Margaret Ottinger of Meadview, Virginia, Rev. Terry and Sherry Ottinger of Newport, and Ronnie and Donna Ottinger of Newport; sister, Phyllis Coleman of Dallas, Georgia; aunt, Mildred Hatley of Chestnut Hill; and several nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Funeral service will be 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Manes Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Terry Ottinger, Rev. Chris Brady and Rev. Steve Taylor officiating. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Union Cemetery.

Bertha Louise Shoun, 93, of Newport, passed away Wednesday at her home.
She was a member of the Newport Church of Christ, and was preceded in death by her husband, William Louis Shoun.
She is survived by her children: sons, John Shoun of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Paul Shoun of Nashville, TN; daughters, Joanna Davenport of Goldsboro, NC, Edna Palmer of Newport, and Linda Shoun of Hampton, VA; 13 grandchildren; 11 great - grandchildren; and four great - great - grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Charles Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery.

Mr. Stevie Hale, 38, of Parrottsville, died September 11, 2000, at his home.
He was an employee of UT Tobacco Experiment Station in Greeneville.
He was preceded in death by parents, Fred and Beatrice Hale.
Survivors: wife, Cindy Hale of the home; children, Mary, Tracie, Angel and Steve Hale, all of the home; sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Roger Roberts of Mosheim, Gladys Potts of Newport, Ida and Doug Hinkle of Greeneville, and Alice Hale of Newport; and brother and sister-in-law, Freddy and Phyllis Hale of Parrottsville. Additional survivors include his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Connie and Mike Sledgezcenski of Lenoir City; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends including Pat Hodges, Marie Shipley, and Roland Blair, all of Greeneville, and Eddie Coomer of North Carolina.

Mary Elizabeth Gowan Clark, 65, passed away Wednesday afternoon at her home in Hot Springs, N.C., following a lengthy illness.
She was a member of the Church of God in High Point, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Riley and Mary Matilda Gowan; sister, Maggie Robinson; and brothers, William R. Gowan, Andrew S. Gowan and Claude A. Gowan.
She is survived by her husband, Walter W. Clark of Hot Springs, N.C.; daughters, Janice Spivey and her husband, Jeff, of Hot Springs, N.C., and Ida Burleson and her husband, Dwayne of Black Mountain, N.C.; sisters, Catherine Lawson of Hot Springs, N.C., and Pauline Harris of Suffolk, VA; brother, Dolman P. Gowan and his wife, Lucille, of Hot Springs, N.C.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Fairview Methodist Church with Major Jean Frece and Rev. Ray Clark officiating. Interment

Mary Pearl Keller, 87, of Bybee, passed away Monday at the Baptist Hospital of Cocke County following a short illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Haskell (Hack) Keller and her parents, Bud and Lula Gilliam.
She is survived by her son, Jay Keller and his wife, Hazel, of Newport; daughters, Mae Fox and her husband, Carl, of Newport, and Betty Coggins of Greeneville, TN; sisters, Bea Sawyer of Bybee and Lizzie Wise of Newport; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great - grandchildren.

William C. (Dub) Talley, 85, of Jefferson City, formerly of Morristown, passed away Monday, September 11, 2000, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wheeler and Lartha Talley; and three sisters, Edith Fox, Kate Henderson, and an infant sister.
Survived by two sisters, Velma Smith of Morristown and Hattie Smith of Newport; brother, Resinol (Ron) Talley of Morristown; 10 nieces; and four nephews.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, September 13, 2000, 8 p.m., at Westside Chapel with Rev. J.B. Gulley officiating.
Graveside services will be Thursday, 10 a.m., in the Hamblen Memory Gardens.

Beatrice Ella Brooker
Died: 09 - 13 - 2006 Mrs. Beatrice Ella Brooker, age 89, of White Pine, died at home Wednesday morning, September 13, 2006. She was the seventh child born to John and Elizabeth Calfee of the McCowans Creek Community in Newport on January 20, 1917. Until failing health, she attended White Pine Church of God, Main Street, White Pine. Aunt Bea was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Calfee; brothers, Fred, Elbert, Dillard, Garrett, Bartley, and John Calfee; brothers-in-law, Vaughn Chambers and Charlie Samples; and recently, Theron Calfee, a nephew. Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Herman Huskey, of Morristown; sisters, Eleanor Chambers, of Newport, and Mettie Samples, of Greeneville. She is also survived by a brother, Ruel Calfee and his wife, Ruby, of Morristown; a step - son, Charles Vanosdale, of Knoxville. Additional survivors include several nieces, nephews, friends, and special caregivers, Beverly Ellison, Ruth Woods, and niece, Brenda Ellison. Aunt Bea was a skilled seamstress, making special clothes for her family over the productive years of her life. She went to Ohio and worked during the war efforts of WWII. She was an excellent cook and loved attending to her flowers. She enjoyed travel and was afforded that luxury with her second marriage. She was the caregiver for two husbands, Bill Vanosdale and John Brooker, and for her mother, Elizabeth Calfee, prior to their deaths from failing health. Each passed in the same house that she has lived in for over fifty years. Family will receive friends at Manes Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 14, 2006. Chucky Michael Finchum, born August 9, 1949, of Sevierville, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2006. He was a man who loved life and lived it to its fullest. He always had a joke to tell or a prank to pull. Chucky enjoyed camping and riding horses with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hix and Bertha Finchum; brother, R.C. Finchum; niece, Cindy Coleman Wilson. Chucky will be sadly missed by many.
