Died: 09 - 13 - 2006 Mrs. Beatrice Ella Brooker, age 89, of White Pine, died at home Wednesday morning, September 13, 2006. She was the seventh child born to John and Elizabeth Calfee of the McCowans Creek Community in Newport on January 20, 1917. Until failing health, she attended White Pine Church of God, Main Street, White Pine. Aunt Bea was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Calfee; brothers, Fred, Elbert, Dillard, Garrett, Bartley, and John Calfee; brothers-in-law, Vaughn Chambers and Charlie Samples; and recently, Theron Calfee, a nephew. Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Herman Huskey, of Morristown; sisters, Eleanor Chambers, of Newport, and Mettie Samples, of Greeneville. She is also survived by a brother, Ruel Calfee and his wife, Ruby, of Morristown; a step - son, Charles Vanosdale, of Knoxville. Additional survivors include several nieces, nephews, friends, and special caregivers, Beverly Ellison, Ruth Woods, and niece, Brenda Ellison. Aunt Bea was a skilled seamstress, making special clothes for her family over the productive years of her life. She went to Ohio and worked during the war efforts of WWII. She was an excellent cook and loved attending to her flowers. She enjoyed travel and was afforded that luxury with her second marriage. She was the caregiver for two husbands, Bill Vanosdale and John Brooker, and for her mother, Elizabeth Calfee, prior to their deaths from failing health. Each passed in the same house that she has lived in for over fifty years. Family will receive friends at Manes Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 14, 2006. Died: 10 - 01 - 2006 Frances Carolyn Leibrock Aaron was born October 11, 1916 in Newport, Tennessee. She died September 29, 2006 at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. She was Baptist by faith and grew up in the First Baptist Church of Newport. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam E. Aaron and brothers, Mack Leibrock and Edward Leibrock. Survivors are step - son, Jack Aaron and wife Libby of Memphis, TN; grandchildren and spouses, Johnny Aaron and Nikki, Mike Aaron and Gina, Julie Wunderlich and Philip; and seven great - grandchildren all of Memphis. She is also survived by her sister, Wilma Leibrock Davies of Newport; nephews and wives, Bill and Charlotte Leibrock of Newport, Frank and Cynthia Leibrock of Livermore, CO, John and Karen Leibrock of San Antonio, TX; and niece and husband, Ellen and Paul Shelton of Knoxville, TN. Ms. Aaron attended Tusculum College to study business accounting. She moved to Nashville where she worked as an auditor for the Tennessee Department of Health until retirement. Died: 09 - 29 - 2006 Charles Dolphus Smelcer, age 90 of Parrottsville, born August 23, 1916 passed away Friday September 29, 2006 at home after a battle with several health problems. He was a member of Luther Memorial Church. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He drove a school bus for 15 years, also farmed and did some carpenter work. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene (Barger) Smelcer; parents, Homer Eugene and Rhoda (Ottinger) Smelcer; brothers, J.D. and Bill Smelcer. He is survived by his wife and caregiver, Eldise (Frazier) Smelcer; brother and sister-in-law, Claude and Inez Smelcer of Parrottsville; sisters, Marie Ottinger and Alice Rader both of Parrottsville; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday October 1, 2006 at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church with Pastor Connie Bramlett officiating, with burial in Luther Memorial Cemetery. Gary C. Gray, age 58 of Newport died early Thursday morning, September 28, 2006 following a long illness. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church and was an employee of Wal - Mart, in Newport. He also served four years in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert C. Gray; and brother, Kevin J. Gray. He is survived by his wife, Mary Gray of Newport; son, Todd Gray of Lake Ozark, MO; daughter, Jennifer Gray of Newport; step - daughter, Jessica Goins of Newport; grandson, Tyler Gray of Newport; mother and step - father, Wanell Gray Masters and James P. Died: 12 - 03 - 2006 Laura Keyes, 85, of Morristown, went to be with her Lord Sunday, December 3, 2006, in Morristown. She was a homemaker and a member of Cave Hill Baptist Church. Laura is preceded in death by her husband, Warren Keyes; parents, John and Vina Gunter Baxter; one son, Jackie Warren Keyes; three brothers, Ben, Houston, and George Baxter; two sisters, Maude Mardis and Stella Hayes; and one granddaughter, Stephanie O’Neil. Ms. Keyes is survived by her children, Betty and husband Roger O’Neil, of Morristown; Bobbie and husband Jack Ball, of Morristown; and Sean Keyes, of Sumter, S.C. She will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Michelle and Daniel Sauls, Kim and Ray Morrison, Kelly and Scott Ezell, and Matthew and Hailey Keyes; great - grandchildren, Joshua and Emma Sauls; special friends, Pattie Jenkins, Tammy Gorrell, and Mindy Hutto; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
