He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Pearl Reeves Martin; son, Joe; stepmother, Vidian Martin; sister, Ruby Combs; brother, Clarence Martin; and step daughter-in-law, Gale Gunter. Survivors include his wife, Hester Martin, of the home; daughter, Patricia, of Montana; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Louise, of High Point, N.C.; son, Glen, of High Point, N.C.; 8 grandchildren and 9 great - grandchildren; step - sons and daughters-in-law, R.D. and Beverly Gunter, Alonzo and Elvia Inman, and step - son, Dallas Gunter; sister and brother-in-law, Betty Ann and Jack White, of Kernersville, N.C. Sandra Denise (Deanie) Williams, age 45, of Newport, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2007, born May 13, 1961. She was of the Baptist faith. Deanie was preceded in death by her husband, Freddy Maloy; father, Sam Williams; sister, Dottie Sue Williams; grandparents, Milburn and Bertie Williams, Dorothy O’Dell, and Terrace Wilson. She is survived by her beloved mother, Sue Williams, of the home; two brothers, Marty Williams, Chip Williams and his three children, Samantha, Saxton, and Sandon Williams, who Deanie loved as her own; three half sisters, Debbie Burgin and her husband Sammy Burgin, Lynda Pace, all of Newport, and Diane Carpenter, of Rogersville; additional nieces include, Melinda Styles, Deana Burgin, Brittany Shipley, Brooke Campbell, and nephews, Chad Styles, Daron Burgin, Jordan Williams; and several aunts and uncles. Special friends include Dr. Thomas Conway, Dr. Constantino Diaz, Brenda Crumbley, Faye Dockery, Sharon McGaha, and Kathy Kelly. Died: 03 - 31 - 2007 Harry C. Denton, age 80, of Newport, died Saturday afternoon at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Fowler; mother, Dillie Campbell Denton; father, Floyd Denton; brother, Billy Denton and wife, Pearl; brother, Edward (Squab) Denton; step - son, Ray Denton Jr., and wife, Berniece; and step - grandson, John Denton. Frederick Joseph Stokely
Died: 03 - 31 - 2007 Frederick Joseph Stokely, age 82, of Parrottsville, departed this life on Saturday, March 31, 2007, surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born October 26, 1924. He was the second of five children born of Joseph and Lelia Stokely. He was a member of Allen’s Chapel Baptist Church, where he served faithfully until his health would no longer permit him to do so. He was a member of the Star of the East Masonic Lodge #353, where he held the rank of 32nd degree and a member of the Shriners as well. He was employed by Syntex Corporation, retiring in 1985 after 30 plus years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lelia Stokely; sisters, Mary and Martha Stokely; brother, Hubert Stokely; sister-in-law, Judia Mae Stokely; several aunts, uncles; and special friend, Jennie Lee Olden. He is survived by his wife of 48 1/2 years, Jerlyne Stokely; daughter, Felecia Elaine Hill; future son-in-law, Jerome B. Hattan, of Naples, Fla.; two granddaughters, Marisa Danielle Nicole Hill and Ashanti Patricia Hill; brother, Kenneth Stokely, of Parrottsville; sister-in-law, Irene Stokely, of Detroit, Mich.; three nieces, Betty Stokely, Pamela Stokely, of Powder Springs, Ga., and Elaine (Don) Thompson, of Detroit, Mich.; two great niece, Malika (Ellis) Cook and Adire Thompson, both of Detroit, Mich.; one great nephew, Ahmed (Shelley) Thompson, of Parrottsville; four great - great - nieces; six great - great - nephews and several cousins. Christopher Lee Allen
Died: 06 - 03 - 2007 Christopher Lee Allen, age 35, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2007, at the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville with his mother and other family members at his bedside. As a child, he was baptized into membership at Shady Grove Baptist Church. A private and simple man, Chris was dearly loved by his family and some longtime devoted friends who demonstrated great compassion during his progressive illness and final days. He wished to be remembered for his love of family and loyalty to his friends. His death appeared to be hastened by the heartbreak he felt over the death of his father, Woodrow Allen, just over two weeks earlier. He is survived by his devoted mother, Norma Allen, who stayed by his side for the last weeks of his life; by brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Kathryn Allen, of Knoxville; niece and nephew, Veronica Faith and Joseph Allen, of Knoxville; aunts and uncles, Carol and Jacob Williamson, of Newport; Joanna and Elbert Johnson, of Thomasville, N.C.; Sylvia and Buster Gray, of Newport; Jerry Frazier, of Newport; Sandra Evans, of Newport; Randall Frazier, of Newport; and Ronnie Frazier, of Newport; as well as beloved great aunts and uncles and several special cousins. Died: 06 - 03 - 2007 Ruel Grady Calfee, 84, of Newport, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2007, at Newport Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was retired from American Enka and served in the U.S. Army as a veteran of WWII serving in the North African and Italian Campaigns. He was a member of Veterans of Underage Military Service, Leadvale Masonic Lodge and Morristown VFW Post #5266. He was also a member of the Church of God. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Elizabeth Carver Calfee; brothers, Fred, Dillard, Garrett, Bartley, Elbert, and John; sister, Beatrice Booker; and granddaughter, Paula Calfee. Toliver “Jabo” Franklin, age 71 of Newport passed away Sunday, June 3, 2007 at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia, NC. He was born November 17, 1935 in Haywood County, NC, son of the late, Andrew Jackson Franklin and Rachel Matilda Jenkins Franklin; he is all so preceded in death by his brother, Clyde Franklin. He is survived by his brother and sister - in - law, James and Linda Gunther of Gastonia; sisters and brother-in-law, Ruth Jenkins of Gastonia, Willa Mae and Vincent Crackovich of Bridgeton, NJ; aunt, Dorothy Jones of Newport; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Died: 06 - 02 - 2007 Exie Finchum Chaney, 95, of Sevierville passed away Saturday June 2, 2007. She was known for being a hard worker her entire life, in her early years at Bush Brothers and also on the family farm. Preceded in death by her husband; A. B. Died: 06 - 02 - 2007 Diane Clendenon Hensley of Elk Street in Greeneville, age 47 passed away Saturday June 2, 2007 at her home. She was a homemaker. Her survivors include one daughter, Heather Connell of Kingsport; three brothers, David Clendenon, Roger Goode, and Bo Teaster, all of Greeneville; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Teresa and David Dyke, and Lisa Goode; very special friend, Kenny Scott; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; special friends, Randy Griffin, Dick Franklin, Chuck Marshall, Delbert Fillers, Tommy Shipley, Tony Shipley and Chris Connell. He was Press Operator with General Motors and a veteran of the Korean War. Clarence is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Roma Kerns. He is survived by his daughter, Della Rancour of Cosby; sisters, Neva Brown of W. VA and Ruth Kerns of OH; brothers, Doug and Ken Kerns of OH; grandchildren, Mark and Mary Kay of MI, Chris and Krystin Rancour of Cosby. Kenny was preceded in death by his grandparents Wiley and Rebecca Oakley and Otha and Stella Russell, nephew Jon P. Williams, and father-in-law Hollis Fred Phillips. He is survived by his, wife, Judine Oakley; son, Samuel Kenneth Oakley, Jr.; daughters, Katie and Shawna Oakley; mother, Katie Oakley; father, Wiley Casey Oakley; brothers, Brad Oakley and wife Lisa, Rusty Oakley and wife Brenda; sister, Cassie Dellinger; a host of nieces and nephews and all of his close friends and coworkers from the City of Gatlinburg. Stan Clark
Died: 06 - 08 - 2007 Stan Clark passed away at his home in Panama City Beach, Florida. He was formerly from Del Rio. He retired from the U.S. Dept. of the Navy after working as a Reliability Engineer. He was a 1961 graduate of Lincoln Memorial University. He also attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He was an avid photographer and traveled extensively. Preceding him in death were his parents, the Rev. Homer and Wilma Clark; brothers, Jack and Jimmy Clark; and sisters, Thelma Lentz and Opal Wintergerst. He is survived by his daughters, Kim Oliver and husband Christian, and Leslie Crabb; also, his beloved grandson, Randy Crabb, all of Park City, Utah. He is also survived by his sisters: Evelyn Clark Smith and husband Lloyd, of Del Rio, and Ginger Firth and husband Wayne, of Barboursville, Virginia; brothers: Gerald Clark and wife Beatrice, of Knoxville; Bill Clark and wife Rose, of Kill Devil Hill, N.C.; and Ronnie Clark and wife Kathy, of Alexandria, Virginia; and many special nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by his life - long friends, Larry Allison and Ronnie Skews, and many classmates in the Class of 1955 at Osbourne High School in Manassas, Virginia. Our family and friends will celebrate his life at a Memorial Service on June 10, 2007, at Deep Gap Baptist Church at Clark Cemetery in Del Rio, Tennessee. Interment in Clark Cemetery.

Died: 06 - 07 - 2007 Masil Hembree of Cosby, born July 3, 1931, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at her home where she lived with her brother Ralph Hembree. She was employed as a housekeeper at Royal Townhouse in Gatlinburg for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents William “Bill” Hembree and Rebecca Jenkins Hembree; brothers, Bobby “Pig” Hembree, Y.J. Hembree and wife Velma Hembree; and brother-in-law, Fred Price. She is survived by her daughter Sue and her husband Timmy Jenkins; son Tim Hembree; brother Ralph Hembree; sister Millie Price; granddaughters Porsha, Rachel and Elizabeth Hembree, and Samantha Jenkins; grandson Dillion Jenkins; and special friends Vivian and Jane Barnes of Cosby. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carson and Carrie Cagle; son, Eric Cagle; grandson, Kennedy Cagle; and brother-in-law, Flint Green. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Mae Shelton Cagle, of Newport; children, Chris Cagle and fiancée, Terri Williamson, of Newport; Luke Cagle, of Newport, and fiancée, Betty Mantooth, of White Pine; Joe (Hoss) Cagle, of Del Rio; Carrie Cagle, of Newport; and April Bullington, of Del Rio; daughter-in-law, Carrie Robin Patterson Cagle, of Newport; brother and sister-in-law, Phillip Birchfield, of Del Rio, and Debbie Birchfield, of Newport; sister, Judy Green, of Del Rio; five grandchildren, Christopher, Alexis, Sara, Christian, and Toby Keith Cagle; brothers-in-law, John Shelton, Robert Shelton, of White Pine; sisters-in-law, Nina Grisham, of Jefferson City, and Elgiva Moss, of Bean Station; also several nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 8, 2007, in Manes Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Fred Cagle officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 9 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2007, at Manes Funeral Home. Family and friends may sign the guest register online at www.manesfuneralhome.com.
