John Hovey, 54, of Rosebush, died on Thursday, February 1, 2001, in Harrison, Michigan.

Eldred, Milo Harris
June 22, 1913 - January 30, 2001
Milo Harris Eldred, 87, of Cadillac, Michigan, formerly of Winn, died on Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at Sparrow Medical Center in Lansing.
A Funeral Mass for Milo Eldred will be held Friday, February 2nd, at 11 a.m. from St. Leo's Catholic Church in Winn, with Fr. Julius A. Spleet officiating. Interment will take place at the Pine River Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday, January 31st from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, February 1st from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral chapel. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in memory of Milo may consider Community Cancer Services or the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Milo was born on June 22, 1913, in Blanchard, the son of Edmund and Alice (Gustavison) Eldred. Milo was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Catherine Schafer, whom he married on May 30, 1936, in Beal City. Milo married Lydia Garrison on September 20, 1986, in Cadillac. He was self-employed as a farmer from 1951 to 1985, when he retired. Milo had worked for the Isabella County Road Commission and Roosevelt Oil Refinery. Milo was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Cadillac, the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Moose Lodge.
Milo is survived by his wife, Lydia Eldred of Cadillac; his children, Alice Tatro of Winn, Patricia Uebele (Gerald) of Blanchard, Shirley Gates (Dave) of Blanchard, Michael 'Mick' Eldred and Rhonda Wernette of Mt. Pleasant, step-son Ron Garrison of Lansing; 16 grandchildren and 1 step-grandchild; 23 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Eleanor Eldred of St. Louis.
Milo was preceded in death by his first wife, his sister Violet Eldred, his brother Sherman Eldred and Milo's twin brother Milan Eldred.

Mayer, Andrew L.
December 8, 1946 - January 29, 2001
Andrew Louis Mayer, age 54, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at his home on Monday, January 29, 2001.
He was born December 8, 1946, in Dearborn, Michigan to Clarence and Virginia Mayer. He attended school in Algonac, Michigan and graduated from CMU with a Master's Degree in Educational Administration. He was employed by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department as a patrolman in 1970 and retired as Deputy Director of Public Safety in 1997. Andy was an avid hunter and fisherman and devoted his life to family and friends. He was a member of the Winn United Methodist Church where he accepted the Lord and was Baptized.
He is survived by his wife, Pam, sons Doug and Darryl, step-children Lisa Adams and Lori (Patrick) Garrett, grandchildren Drew Mayer and Trista Nelson, Meagan, Logan, Ethan and Reagan Adams, Aliesha, Alex and Patrick Garrett, and many loving friends and relatives.
Cremation has taken place and at Andy's request, a Memorial Service and Celebration of his life will take place at Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2001.
The family requests that friends meet at Island Park on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a procession leading to Clark Funeral Chapel.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family, Hospice of Central Michigan, or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Miller, Jesse Elden
May 22, 1915 - January 27, 2001
Jesse Elden Miller, 85, of Rosebush, Michigan, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2001 at his residence.
Funeral Services for Jesse Elden Miller will be held Tuesday, January 30th, at 1 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. Rev. Tom Jones and Bishop Wayne Helmuth will officiate. Interment will take place at the Vernon Twp. Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant on Monday, January 29th, from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday, January 30th, from 12 noon until service time.
Those wishing to make a memorial donation in memory of Jesse may consider Hospice of Central Michigan or the Leukemia Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Jesse was born May 22, 1915, in Rushsylvania, Ohio, the son of William Enoch Miller and Bertha Viola (Tussing) Miller. Jesse attended high school in Middleburg, Ohio. He later married Dorothy Carrie Pifer on March 8, 1940. Jesse worked as a self-employed cabinet maker from 1936 to 1938. He later worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. in 1941 and then went to work for AC Division of General Motors as a Tool and Die Maker from 1941 to 1946 and for Ferro Stamping Co. from 1946 to 1965. Jesse retired as a Tool and Die Maker from General Motors in 1978 after 13 years of service.
Jesse was a past member of the AFL-CIO, Fraternal Order of Elks, and the Knights of Pithias Lodge.
Jesse is survived by his wife, Dorothy C. Miller of Rosebush;
Children, Larry Elden (Barbara) Miller of Mt. Pleasant, David Duane (Elizabeth) Miller of Mt. Pleasant, and Bonnie Diane (Jay) Kerney of Virginia Beach, VA; Grandchildren, Carrie (Greg) Halsey of Annapolis, MD., Julie (Michael) Viele of Midland, Matthew Miller of Rosebush, Christian (Jeff) Kennedy of Mt. Pleasant, Andrea (Brian) Wentworth of Mt. Pleasant, Margaret (Jeff) Hovey of Mt. Pleasant, Darren (Cheryl) Kerney of Gloucester, VA.; Great-Grandchildren, Arielle Halsey, Caitlin Viele, Brooke Viele, Jordyn Viele, Jay Kennedy, Andrew Kennedy, Casey Kennedy, Lexi Wentworth, Ashton Wentworth, Trueman Wentworth, Noah Kerney.
Sister, Onalee Crafard of Harrison, Mi.
Jesse loved family gatherings and felt especially blessed to have been able to enjoy his great-great-grandchildren.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents; Brothers, Andrew, Woodrow and Fredrich; Sister, Glenna; and a Granddaughter, Yvonne Paige.

Westbrook, Ruth Marie
November 13, 1924 - January 23, 2001
Ruth Marie Westbrook entered into eternal life on January 23rd, 2001. Surrounded by her loved ones, she passed at her home in Mt. Pleasant, of natural causes. She was 76.
Viewing will be held at Clark Funeral Chapel (located at 114 Bradley, Mt. Pleasant) on Friday, January 26, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. followed by eulogy and prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Parish on Saturday, January 27 at 11:00 a.m.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Hospice of Central Michigan for assisting with her care in her final days. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan or to Sacred Heart Parish.
Ruth was born November 13, 1924, in Snover, Michigan, the daughter of Charles and Hilda Kroetsch. She has resided in Mt. Pleasant since her marriage to Scott Bowen Westbrook in 1945. During their 30 years of marriage, they shared six children.
In her career, she worked as a nurse/doctor's aide at Central Michigan University Health Services, from which she retired after over 20 years. Ruth served on the board of the Moose Lodge for many years. Additionally, she was a member of the Elks Club, as well as the VFW. Bowling, cards and luncheons were among her favorite pastimes, and she delighted in spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by five children: Lynn Ann (Bernie) Rettelle of Bay City, Michigan, Michael (Dora) Westbrook of Danville, Michigan, Jannette (David) Graham of Parker, Colorado, Patrick (Krista) Westbrook of Rosebush, Michigan, Darlene Drake of Waukegan, Illinois; six siblings: Willard (Shirley) Kroetsch, Wilfred (Virginia) Kroetsch, Leon Kroetsch, Kathleen (Sam) Rich, Brother Jerome, Joe (Suzanne) Kroetsch; six grandchildren: Michelle Bullis, Sheri Habina and Casey Rettelle, Laura and Sarah Graham, Patrick Westbrook.
Her husband Scott, son Daniel and sister Helen preceded her in death.
Ruth's love, laughter and wisdom was admired by all that knew her, and will be greatly missed by those who loved her. We love you Ruthie Pearl. May God keep you by his side.

Brownson, Howard E.
March 18, 1913 - January 23, 2001
Howard E. Brownson, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, died on Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 26th, at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Randy Stehouwer of Resurrection Life Church officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday, January 24th, from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, January 25th, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in memory of Howard may consider the United Methodist Church Carson City ' Building Fund or the Parkinson Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Howard was born March 18, 1913, in Gaylord, the son of Frank and E. Faith (Robinson) Brownson. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1932. While he attended Central Michigan College, Howard played clarinet and Big Band music with the CMC Band and the Indian School Band. Howard served in the United States Army from 1943-1946. Howard married Marja Servoss on June 15, 1947, in Mt. Pleasant. He worked as a machine designer for Helfrecht Machine Company in Saginaw from 1967-1978. He was previously self-employed with Brownson's Signs in Mt. Pleasant from 1946-1967, and had worked as an auto mechanic and other various jobs prior to that. Howard was a member of the I.O.O.F.( Odd Fellows) and the V.F.W.-Sheridan Chapter. He was a member of the Carson City United Methodist Church. He enjoyed wood carving, fishing, and camping. Howard loved animals and they responded in kind to him.
Howard is survived by his wife, Marja Brownson; his children, Gene Brownson (Cindy) of Beal City and Marlene McGuirk (Dan) of Alma; and his grandchildren, Jerrod Brownson (Wendi Baker) of Mt. Pleasant and Melissa Brownson of Beal City.

Taylor Ann Marohn, age 8, of Rockford, Michigan, died on Monday, January 22, 2001.
Services for Taylor will be private.

Pitts, Ernest George
June 13, 1931 - January 21, 2001
Ernest George 'Dirty Ernie' Pitts, 69, of Weidman, died on Sunday, January 21, 2001, at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral Services for Ernie will be held on Wednesday, January 24th, at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel. Rev. Tom Jones will officiate. Interment will be in the Coomer Cemetery.

Ernie was born on June 13, 1931, in Flint, the son of Sequel and Ruth (Townsend) Pitts. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1949. Ernie was married to Bobette Kelsey from November 3, 1949, until 1973. Ernie was employed as a mechanic at Art Savage, Morbark, Bandit and was self-employed for many years as an excavator and a used car dealer. He could fix anything and spent many years rebuilding cars, lawnmowers, etc. Ernie loved fishing, hunting, going to Las Vegas, camping, spending time with his dog Shasta. For years he built and flew planes and rode snowmobiles. He had enjoyed the past 15 years with his best friend, companion, and soulmate, Jean Foster.
Ernie is survived by Jean Foster of Mt. Pleasant; his son Roger Pitts (Jean) of Mt. Pleasant, his daughters, Diana Gluch of Weidman, Peggy Germain (Gary) of Mt. Pleasant, Penny Seymour of Elkhart, IN, and Lori Crawley (Doug) of Winn; his grandchildren, Jennifer and Angela Gluch, Keith Germain, Lisa (Toby) Long, Aaron (Rosie) Harry, Brandon Seymour and Trevor and Jake; his sister Joyce Buncic (Al) of Flint; and Jean's brother, Richard Farner of Mt. Pleasant.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Shirley Jones.

Scott, Hazel M.
October 2, 1931 - January 16, 2001
Hazel Marie Scott, 69, of Mt. Pleasant died Tuesday, January 16, 2001, at her home.
Funeral Services for Hazel Scott will be held on Friday, January 19th, at 4 p.m. from the Clark Funeral Chapel. Rev. Jana Lynn Almeida of the Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant on Friday, January 19th, from 12 noon until the time of the service. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in memory of Hazel may consider the American Diabetes Association or to the Welcome Home for the Blind. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Hazel was born October 2, 1931, in Rowletts, Kentucky. She worked as an accountant for Carpetland in Indiana for 30 years. In her final journey, Hazel was in the loving care of her sister Juanita and her husband Houston Maxey.
Hazel is survived by her husband, David Scott of Indiana; her son Jeffrey (Jenny) Scott of San Francisco, California; her sister Juanita (Houston) Maxey of Mt. Pleasant; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, George Wayne Quinn.

Schmittler, Robert Herman
January 26, 1953 - January 15, 2001
Robert Herman Schmittler, 47, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan died Monday, January 15, 2001, at the University of Alabama Health System in Birmingham, Alabama.
Funeral services for Robert Herman Schmittler will be held Monday, January 22nd, at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Gordon Rydman of the Central Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant on Sunday, January 21st, from 3-5 p.m. and again from 7-9 p.m.
Robert was born January 26, 1953, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the son of Robert H. and Irene (Phelps) Schmittler Sr. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1971. Robert attended Michigan State University and Ferris State University, majoring in Criminal Justice. He also served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Robert married Kathleen Kranzer, May 19, 1984, in Manhattan Beach, California. Robert was a building official for the City of Manhattan Beach, California. He also worked as a construction manager. He was a member of the International Conference of Building Officials (I.C.B.O).
Robert is survived by his wife Kathleen Schmittler; children, Daniel Steven Schmittler, Jacob Robert Schmittler, and Sarah Katherine Rose Schmittler, all of Mt. Pleasant; his mother, Irene Schmittler of Mt. Pleasant; his parents-in-law, Ron and Alline Kranzer of San Dimas, California; two half-brothers, Jerry (Jeanie) Schmittler and Harlan (Martha) Schmittler, both of Albion, Illinois.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert in 1996,and a daughter, Jennifer Irene Schmittler in 1973.

Liscomb, Jesse A.

Jesse A. Liscomb, 39, of Mt. Pleasant died Sunday, January 14, 2001, unexpectedly at his home.
Funeral Services for Jesse A. Liscomb will be held on Thursday, January 18th, at 11 a.m. from the Clark Funeral Chapel. Rev. Daniel Siedlecki of the Central Michigan Christian Church will officiate. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

Jesse was born June 5, 1961, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. He worked as an electrician for Mid State Electric for 6 years. Jesse's pastimes were car racing and fishing.

Pleasant, 2 step-daughters, Amy Groeneveld and Kim Kappler; 1 granddaughter, Holly Groeneveld; mother Sharon Liscomb and step-father Joe Faber of Lake, Michigan; his siblings, Shari and Robert Maycroft of Mt. Pleasant, April and Ray Malott of Mt. Pleasant, Don and Deb Liscomb of Mt. Pleasant, Aaron and Lauri Liscomb of Mt. Pleasant, Christian Liscomb and Eric Simon of Angola, Indiana, Todd and Karrie Faber of Blanchard, Heidi and Julian Quezada of Vestaburg and Ty and Molly Faber of Shepherd; his grandmother, Irene Stahl of Mt. Pleasant; 14 nieces and nephews; 2 great nieces and nephews.
