Rarick, Robert Westover
June 16, 1928 - December 9, 2003
Robert Westover Rarick, age 75, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan died peacefully in the home he shared with Martha Rarick his wife of 42 years, on Tuesday December 9, 2003.
Memorial Services for Robert will be held on Saturday, December 13th, from St. John's Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant at 11 a.m. The Rev. Patricia Green and The Rev. Nancy Casey-Fulton and Masonic Wabon Lodge #305 will officiate. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 13th, from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Episcopal Church, Hospice of Central Michigan, Community Cancer Services, or to the Donor's charity of choice. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel and the church.
Robert was born June 16, 1928 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, the son of Joseph S. and Frances (Westover) Rarick. Robert married Martha Pool on December 9, 1961, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. He graduated from Columbian High School in Tiffin, Ohio. He then attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana and Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. Robert was a master craftsman enjoying working in his workshop creating Intarsia pictures and building furniture. The evidence of his skill is in numerous pieces at St. John's Episcopal Church. He delighted in creating wooden toys and puzzles for Christmas charities. He will be remembered for his humor and being known as Uncle Bob to many in the community. Robert was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Mid-Michigan Woodcrafters Club, Wabon Lodge #305, Heart of Michigan Clown Alley and Mt. Pleasant O.E.S. #55.
Robert is survived by his wife, Martha Rarick of Mt. Pleasant; sister, Joan (Richard) Mann of Sun City Center, FL; two nieces, Debby L. Mann of Valrico, FL and Julie (Eddy) Watkins of Brandon, FL.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
Gorton, Gail Elizabeth
July 11, 1956 - December 8, 2003
Gail Elizabeth Gorton, age 47, of Mt. Pleasant passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 8, at the Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 13, at 11 a.m. from the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant. Dr. Stephen Shugert will officiate.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 12, from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gail E. Gorton Women in Sports Endowment.

Gail Elizabeth Gorton was born July 11, 1956 in Farmington Hills, Michigan, the daughter of Stanley Kouris and F. Elizabeth (Winter) Kouris. She graduated from North Farmington High School in 1974. She went on to College at Central Michigan University where she received her B.S. degree in 1978. On December 22, 1978, she married Peter B. Gorton at the Martha Mary Chapel in Greenfield Village. Gail worked as an educator since 1992 for the Mt. Pleasant Public Schools, teaching 3rd and 4th grades. She taught at Pullen, Vowles, Kinney and Ganiard Elementary Schools. Gail was very active in many different areas of the Isabella County Community. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She also taught Sunday School. She was an avid bird watcher with the Chippewa Valley Audubon Club, District Coordinator for the Mt. Pleasant Environmental Curriculum, board member of the Mt. Pleasant Sports Boosters, served as an advisor to the Mt. Pleasant Soccer Club, a member of the Michigan Education Assoc. (M.E.A.) She supported multi-age curriculum in education. She was active with Women's Aid Service. Gail volunteered her time for the development of natural areas.
Gail is survived by her husband of 25 years, Peter B. Gorton of Mt. Pleasant, their 2 daughters Grace Elizabeth and Claire Winter ,Gorton both at home; parents, Stanley and F. Elizabeth Kouris of Bradenton, Florida; brother, Stan P. (Mindy) Kouris of Brighton, Michigan; nephews, Christopher Winter and twin brother Ty Remmington Kouris of Mt. Pleasant.
Cook, Orves Richard

Orves Richard Cook, 93, of Weidman, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 7, 2003.
Funeral Services for Orves will be held on Wednesday, December 10th, from the Zion Lutheran Church on Coldwater Road at 11 a.m. Pastor David Mielke will officiate with interment
to take place in the Broomfield Twp. Cemetery, Isabella Co.
The family will receive friend on Tuesday, December 9, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel, and on Wednesday, December 10, from 10 a.m. until time of service at the Church.

Orves was born August 2, 1910 in Weidman, the son of Herman Cook and Theda (Smith) Cook. Orves married Gilda Mae Bergquist on August 2, 1934 in Weidman, Michigan. Mr. Cook worked in the oilfields as a supervisor. He worked for Union Rotary and Associated Drillers, he retired in 1963. Orves also owned his own dairy farm and did crop farming.
Orves was a charter member of the Weidman Lions Club, and was also a member of the Coldwater Road Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed camping, fishing and loved having fun with his grandchildren.
Orves is survived by his wife of 69 years, Gilda Cook of Weidman; his children, Jack E. (Soneia Lee) Cook of Weidman and Darla Mae (Warren T.) Lear of Hampton, Minnesota, daughter-in-law Marion Cook of Weidman, 9 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, his brother, Herman (Margaret) Cook Jr. of Lansing, Michigan, sisters, Lacretia Klumpp of Winn, and Alice Fox of Lansing.
Orves was preceded in death by his son, Richard Lee Cook on Nov. 13, 1995, sisters, Gleverda Krueger, Aliance Cook, and Lylah Mead, Brother, Theodore Cook.

Phillip Ryan Owens, age 14, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2003 at his home.

Mary Lee Cornell, 95, of Mt. Pleasant, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at Tendercare-Mt. Pleasant.

Mary was born September 16, 1908, in Crofton, KY, the daughter of Samuel and Lou (Foster) Smith. She married Raymond J. Cornell on February 17, 1928, in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Mary resided in Mt. Pleasant since 1941. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant and loved her church. She will be missed by all.
Mary is survived by three daughters, Betty Spiris of Mt. Pleasant, Elaine (Bill) Martin of Lake Isabella, and Sharlene (Richard) Wilson of Mt. Pleasant, 9 grandchildren, Jon Michael (Kathy) Spiris, Cathy (Alex) Imlay, Steven (Kim) Spiris, Peter Spiris, David (Lori) Smalley, Scott Smalley, Robert (Tami) Smalley, Steven Smalley, Kevin (Kristie) Wilson, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Odis Russell Tucker, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2003, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Odis was born December 15, 1914, in Arbuckle Creek, WV, the son of George and Minnie (Wittington) Tucker. He married Grace Craig on June 19, 1937, who preceded him in death. He then married Etta (Shade) Snow on June 9, 1972, in Pontiac, MI. Odis worked for Cheboygan County in truck maintenance until his retirement. He enjoyed golfing and hunting which was the love of his life.
Odis is survived by his wife, Etta Tucker of Mt. Pleasant; his children Bonnie (Dale) Coulter of Hadley, Jack (Nancy) Tucker of Minocqua, WI, Cary Tucker of Royal Oak, and stepsons Robert (Cathy) Snow of Waterford and Bill (Janet) Snow of West Branch; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his brother Elbert Tucker of Buffalo, WV, and sister Oma Davis of Davisburg.
Odis was preceded in death by his son Jerry Tucker, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers.
Morey, Martie Lee

Martie Lee Morey, 40, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2003, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Martie is survived by his mother Trudy (George) Sanderson, brother Frank (Billie) Fedewa, children Jessica Lynn and Tori; his family at Hunan House as well as many friends in the Clare/Mt. Pleasant area.
Martie was preceded in death by his father Kurt Hilyard and grandparents Helen and Les Adams and his Uncle Bill Adams.
Klomparens, John
July 5, 1939 - November 8, 2003
John Klomparens, age 64, of Canadian Lakes passed away on November 8, 2003 at his home.
John was born July 5, 1939, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henrietta Boomsma and Jacob Klomparens, and his Uncle Tom and Aunt Jennie Smit.
He is survived by his wife Deloris Gomez of Canadian Lakes. He is also survived by his former wife, Margaret Trombley and by their sons Thomas Klomparens of Mattawan, MI, Robert Klomparens and daughter-in-law Linda Klomparens, both of Galesburg, MI, and by his 6 grandchildren, Jake, Eric, and Kara of Mattawan, MI, and Zachary, Casandra and Kylie of Galesburg, MI.
John was a master electrician and a member of IBEW Local 131. He worked in electrical construction at every level of responsibility, including apprentice, journeyman, foreman, estimator, project manager, manager, and company owner.
John served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1957 to 1960. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Portage, MI.
John was appreciated by many for his unique sense of humour. He enjoyed woodworking, boating, and long drives exploring the countryside. He will be dearly missed by his family.
Funeral Services for John will be held on Tuesday, November 11, at 2 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel, 114 S. Bradley Street, Mt. Pleasant, with Pastor Arlan Estes officiating. Interment

Frick, Otto Oliver
October 28, 1921 - November 7, 2003
Otto Oliver Frick was born October 28, 1921, in Isabella County to August and Hedwig (Ruess) Frick, originally from Switzerland. He has lived in Mt. Pleasant, Rosebush, and Littlefield Lake. Otto started hauling milk in cans for his father in 1936 while still in the eighth grade. Otto sometimes took grocery lists from the farmers with the milk in the morning, returning the goods with the cans later that day. The Frick operation expanded and at one time they owned seven trucks, five of them hauling to Borden's. Otto officially took over the milk hauling business in 1945. He was the first in Isabella County to use covered insulated truck bodies (1948). He hauled in to Borden's plants in West Branch, Perrinton, Bad Axe, Ovid, or Cedar Springs, and to McFarland and Lakeside Dairy. He sold his milk route to Morval LaLone in 1968. After 32 years in the milk hauling business, Otto began another career as a builder and dealer for Pageant Homes (pre-cut homes from the Holt area). He lived at Littlefield Lake and using that as his home base, put up over 250 homes, garages, and additions from 1969 to 1983.
He married Anna Marie Vogel on April 29, 1947, in Beal City, MI.
He is survived by his wife, Anna; their children Kathleen (Keith) Hagen of Alma, Susan (Glynn 'Russ') Russell of Evart, Christina Frick of Mt. Pleasant, and John (Sheri) Frick of Evart; grandson, Dale Wayne Thatcher, Jr. of Tennessee; and by extended family of Kim and Darrell Greening and daughters, Jessica and Brook of Alma; Terri and Andy Fritz of Evart; Lisa Queen and boys, Matthew, Raymond and Austin of Hersey; and Ricky and Heather Oda and Darcy Daggy of Evart. Also surviving are three brothers and two sisters: Gene (Marlene) Frick of Monroe; Carl (Ruth) Frick of Mt. Pleasant; Frank (Lou) Frick of Mt. Pleasant, Rose Marie (Richard) Wilson of Alpena; and Clara Frick of Lake, MI and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, August and Hedwig Frick, and his older brother and wife, August and Norma Frick.
Funeral services for Otto will be Tuesday, November 11, at 11 a.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Fr. Robert Byrne of Sacred Heart Church officiating. Interment
will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Harry Michael 'Mike' Klein III, age 46, of Mt. Pleasant died Saturday, November 1, 2003, at his residence.
A Funeral Mass for Mike will be held on Tuesday, November 4, at 11 a.m. from Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Fr. Robert Byrne and Rev. Richard Fulkerson will officiate.

Mike was born January 10, 1957, the son of Harry Klein, Jr. and Shirley ( Little) Klein. Mike graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1975. He married Rhonda Foster August 13, 1976. Mike worked for Hall Brothers Sunoco Station and he worked as a plumber most of his life.
In 1986 Mike worked as a part-time fireman for the City of Mt. Pleasant and later joined the Fire Department full time in 1993 to present. Mike was a member of the Isabella County Arson Investigation Group and was very active putting on programs with youths in the Fire Prevention Program.
Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing in Canada, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, reading books in his library, sponsoring family reunions at his house. He loved his family and grandchildren.
Mike is survived by his wife Rhonda; his children, Harry Michael 'Mikey' Klein IV of Mt. Pleasant, Amanda Kay Klein of Grand Rapids, and Kody James Klein at home; grandchildren, Alysha Machuta, Rachel Machuta, and Dylan Klein; his father, Harry Klein Jr., of Mt. Pleasant, his mother, Shirley Klein of Mt. Pleasant; mother and father-in-law, Shirley and Melvin Foster of Mt. Pleasant; 4 brothers, Don Edward Klein of Mt. Pleasant, Tom (Shirley ) Klein of Coral Springs, Florida, Jeff Klein of Margate, Florida and LeRoy Klein of Mt. Pleasant; 1 sister, Jayne (Bill) Fish of Mt. Pleasant; brother-in-law, Randy (Bev) Foster of Mt. Pleasant and sister-in-law, Robbin Shackelford of Rosebush and many nieces and nephews.

Schmidt, Eleanor M.

Eleanor M. Schmidt, 90, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2003, at Tendercare-Mt. Pleasant.

Eleanor was born July 8, 1913, in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of William and Ottillie Rittgen Schmidt. She worked for 40 years in the ActuCourier Statistical and Analysis Department of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company until her retirement in 1979. While living in New York City, Eleanor was involved in the YWCA, AARP Chapter 1640, PACE University-Active Retirement Center School of Continuing Education, Queens Botanical Garden Society, and the Elder Hostel Program. She was a Met Life employee volunteer. After Eleanor moved to Hendersonville, NC, she became involved with the Sammy Williams Senior Center.
Eleanor is survived by her cousin Jeanette Cordella of Stony Brook, NY, lifelong family friends, the Van Dyke Family, Robert and the late Virginia, Bob, Mary, Ann, and Barbara, and special friend Mary Gibson.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents and brother William D. Schmidt.
Hatt, Lavier Leon
November 20, 1922 - October 22, 2003
Lavier Leon Hatt, 80, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on October 22, 2003 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.
Funeral Services for Lavier will be held on Saturday, October 25th at 11 a.m. from the Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Richard Fulkerson from the Central Michigan Free Methodist Church officiating. Interment
will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
Visitation will be held today, October 24th from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Lavier was born November 20, 1922 to Blee and Bessie (Smith) Hatt. He served in the United States Army during WWII as corporal for two years. On March 24, 1946 he married Lillian Ruth Sheldon in Mt. Pleasant. Lavier worked 31 years at the Ferro Manufacturing Company as Foreman of Production Control. He was a member of the Central Michigan Free Methodist Church and the Army 2nd Armour Division.
Lavier is survived by his sons, Dan Hatt of Grand Rapids and Roger (Karen) Hatt of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Teri (Matt) Weisdorfer, Deanna (Mark) Zimmerman, Trent Hatt, Allissa (Travis) Simmons and Steven Hatt; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Blee O. (Inez) Hatt, Jr. of Killeen, TX and sisters, Ettie Kenyon of Warren, Vera Husted of Mt. Pleasant and Florence Emlinger of Mt. Pleasant.
Lavier was preceded in death by his wife Lillian on August 2, 1998; brothers, Howard and Earl 'Dude' Hatt and sister, Lillian Livermore.
