Griffin-Duncan
On Saturday, July 18, 1998, friends and relatives gathered in the formal garden of the International Peace Garden to witness the marriage vows of Patricia Lenora Duncan and Garry John Griffin. Their union was officiated by Rev. Harvey Hurren.
Escorted down the curved stone stairway by her father Murray, to the classic Canon in D by Pacabel, the bride was radiant in a full length crushed silk gown with a chantilly lace bodice embossed with pearls and lily point sleeves. Around her neck, she wore the pearls worn over 31 years ago by her mother Judi at her wedding. The pearl earrings she wore were given to her the night before by her groom, Garry. Completing her ensemble was the cathedral length veil worn previously by her sister, Melissa.
Tricia carried a cascading bouquet of white bridal lilies, white roses and ivy while her attendants each carried a long stem white rose with ivy. Karin Bos of Carberry was the matron of honour and Melissa Chabluk of Prince Rupert, B.C. and Twila Korchinski of Snow Lake were bridesmaids. They all wore matching hunter green full length flaring gowns with satin inverted collar necklines that fell in an open V to the waist in the back.
The mother of the bride wore a deep navy pantsuit with palazzo pants while the mother of the groom, Mildred Griffin of Colliers, Conception Bay, Nfld. wore a fuschia pink dress with gold buttons and a coordinating scarf.
The groom looked handsome in a black cut-away tuxedo. He wore a black vest with satin lapel and bow tie and a white rose boutonniere. Best man, Glenn Griffin, brother of the groom, of Colliers, Conception Bay, Nfld. and groomsmen, Bob Norman of Lac Du Bonnet and Garry Becker of Thompson wore black tuxedoes with hunter green paisley vests and bow ties. Ushers at the wedding were Charlene McCausland of Winnipeg and Blaine Newman of Thompson.
Zachery Franko of Winnipeg, ring bearer, looked dashing dressed in his tux matching that of the groom. Maggie Ryan of Leaf Rapids was an adorable and somewhat shy flower girl in off-white crushed silk and lace gown carrying a basket first of rose petals and then of bubbles to blow at the happy couple. Mick Chabluk, brother-in-law of the bride and Dawn Marie Janz, friend of the bride sang "There is Love" and "Hand in Hand" during the ceremony, while Peggy Ann Griffin, sister of the groom, of Sydney, N.S. read from the scriptures.
Following the ceremony the bridal party took a horse drawn carriage ride around the Peace Garden accompanied by the photographer and a few bottles of bubbly!
The reception was held in the banquet room at the Red Coat Inn in Boissevain which was tastefully decorated with white silk roses and ivy. The tables were adorned with white pillar candles nestled in ivy and tied with gold wire ribbon. Between the candles were white silk roses also nestled in ivy. Heather Halliday, family friend, and Tracey Code, cousin of the bride, greeted the guests and looked after the guest book. Mick Chabluk was the able and humorous Master of Ceremonies. Bill Meaney, uncle of the groom gave a heartwarming grace prior to a delicious meal. Glenn Griffin gave a toast to the groom and welcomed Tricia into the Griffin family. Tricia's godparents, Jim and Pat Halliday gave a touching toast to the bride.
Garry and Tricia would like to thank their friends and relatives who came from the far north of Manitoba and B.C., the west coast of B.C., the east coast of the Maritimes, and as far south as Colorado and California.
Mr. and Mrs. Garry and Tricia Griffin make their home in Thompson, Manitoba.
CARPENTIER - BUDLONG
The day was July 19, 1997. The place was St. Matthew's Anglican Church, Boissevain. The occasion was the marriage of Christopher Allan Budlong to Suzanne Katherine Belle Carpentier.
The day started with the usual running around that precedes any wedding. By the time we arrived at the church the bride was feeling somewhat ill (nerves). The usual goof-ups occurred: the music started late; so did the ceremony, which included communion. A certain person forgot to announce the reception location (his initials are L.W., you know who you are).
An outdoor reception was held at the home of the bride. In true hospitality the guests were allowed to eat first (this was an unplanned occurrence, but the bride and groom did get something to eat!) The presents were unwrapped in full afternoon sun and, as a result, the bride's front looked like a scalloped tomato.
If you are curious about the bride and groom's attire, consult the picture; after all, "one picture is worth a thousand words". If you must know what everyone else was wearing, ask them!
After the reception the bride and groom went to Ontario for two weeks. Just the three of them (the dog went too).
Thanks to everyone who organized and attended the shower. Special mention goes to the Four Stooges Actress Company. Thanks to Father Larry Winslow and Pastor David Thiessen for officiating and marriage preparation; to the ladies who prepared lunch (incredible food); to Wendy Turner for arranging the flowers with only two weeks notice (you are amazing). Thanks to the fabulous photo man, Mr. Tripp. Thanks to the attendants, Nathan, Kelly, Linda and Twila for putting up with our strange whims. To the ushers and readers. To Krista and Nathan for the music, and Rachel for serving. To Melissa for looking after the guest book. And to God for bringing them together.
The exceedingly joyous quartet (a kitten has since been added) now live in Winnipeg. Look them up and drop in.
