HAVERHILL, MA - James A. “Cricket” Halstead, 49, of Haverhill, died Tuesday January 9, 2007 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston from injuries sustained in a fall on December 28, 2006. James was born in New York City, the son of Walter J. and Frances (Halstead) Broadnax. He attended Haverhill public schools. He leaves a daughter, Jamie Ann Doty, of Haverhill, mother, Frances E. Broadnax, of Amesbury, a brother, Frank W. Kimball, III, of Haverhill, a sister, Lucienne Marie Jones, of Amesbury, dear friend, Constance O’Connor, and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Saturday January 13, from 2 to 3:00 PM with funeral services to be held in the funeral home at 3:00 PM. Burial is private. HAVERHILL, MA - Paul F. Journeau, 57, of Haverhill, formerly of Arizona, and Lawrence, died Thursday, January 4, 2006 at Lawrence General Hospital after a lengthy illness. Paul was born in Lawrence, son of the late Rene J. and Lillian A. (Tetreau) Journeau, and was a graduate of Essex Agricultural High School in Danvers. He leaves a son, Christopher Journeau, of Stratham, NH, a brother and sister in law, Gerard M. and Cyndy Journeau, of Newburyport, two sisters and their husbands, Gloria R. and Robert DeFrancisco, of Haverhill, Dianne M. and Leo Brousseau, of Townsend, and nieces and nephews. HAVERHILL, MA - Kevin J. Walsh, 49, of Lawrence, formerly of Haverhill and Norwood, died December 30, 2006. Mr. Walsh was born and educated in Norwood, the son of the late, Martin and Mary L. (Cochrane) Walsh. He was a graduate of Norwood High School. Kevin enjoyed working with his hands, especially woodworking and landscaping. He leaves his wife, Helen M. Walsh, of Haverhill, a brother Stephen Walsh, of Norwood, step daughter and son in law, Theresa and Phil Banks, of Haverhill, and nieces and nephews. HAVERHILL, MA - Evelyn B. (Shapiro) Spain, 87, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, died Thursday, January 4, 2007 at the Oxford Manor after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Spain was born and educated in Haverhill, the daughter of the late Samuel and Rebecca (Cohen) Shapiro. She was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1937. She was employed by the federal government as a key punch operator at the Internal Revenue Service in Andover for many years. The widow of James Z. Spain who died in 1999, she leaves her son, Frederick Spain, of Haverhill. Mrs. Spain was predeceased by her sister, Lillian Klaiman.
Graveside funeral services will be officiated by Rabbi Ira Korinow on Sunday morning, January 7, 2007 at 11:00 AM in the Children of Israel Cemetery, Middle Road, Haverhill. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. Haverhill.

Barbara P. Jones, 89
AMESBURY, MA - Barbara P. Jones, 89, of Amesbury, died Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at the Amesbury Village Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Miss Jones was born in Georgetown, daughter of the late, Elmer E. and Elizabeth E. (Harrison) Jones. She was a resident of the Amesbury Village Nursing Home for over thirty years, previously residing in Lynn, and Danvers. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Kevin B. Robert W. LaPierre, 76
HAVERHILL, MA - Robert W. LaPierre, 76, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006 at Sunbridge Healthcare, in Lawrence after a lengthy illness. Mr. LaPierre was a lifelong resident of Haverhill, and attended Haverhill public schools. He was employed by the City of Haverhill public works dept. as a heavy equipment operator at the former city landfill. Robert was a person who loved the outdoors, he worked at his farm, enjoyed camping with his grandchildren at the Lone Star Ranch Campground, and was a member of the Plaistow fish and game club. The widower of the late Gloria E. (Bouchard) Comeau, who died in 1992, he leaves stepchildren, Henry Comeau, of Haverhill, Gregory Comeau, of Florida, Donna Rogers, of Merrimac, Barbara Newman, of Epping, NH, and Gloria Gates and her husband Ralph, of Sebastian, Florida, fourteen grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to attend funeral services on Monday, December 18, 2006, at 11:00 AM in the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill. Ann Marie (Dwyer) Silva - 64
METHUEN, MA - Ann Marie (Dwyer) Silva- 64 of Methuen, died Sunday, December 10, 2006 peacefully with her family by her side, at the Caritas Holy Family Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born and educated in Wilmington, the daughter of the late, Ernest J. and Mildred (Boudreau) Thibodeau. She was a 1960 Graduate of Wilmington High School. A Methuen resident for the past forty years, she was employed by the Malden Mills Company in Lawrence for over twenty years, retiring in 1985. Among her many talents, she enjoyed crafts, working with ceramics, and acrylic painting. Above all, her time spent with her family was most precious, especially going on long shopping sprees with her grandchildren. She leaves her beloved daughter, Lisa A. Young-Carey, and her husband, Timothy, of Merrimac, two sisters, Mary Carter, and her husband, Austin, of East Kingston, NH, and Gloria Gavin, of Florida, a brother and sister in law, William and Joan Dwyer, of Waltham, cherished grandchildren, Allyssa Josephson, of Merrimac, and Carl Josephson, of Boston, and many nieces and nephews, she was predeceased by her brother, Edward Dwyer, in 1992.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2006 at 2:00 PM in the Kevin B. Norman J. Comeau, 64
NEWBURYPORT, MA - Norman J. Comeau, 64, formerly of Haverhill, died peacefully at his home on Monday, December 4, 2006, after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
Born in Haverhill, the son of the late, Jean J. and Pearl E. (DesMaris) Comeau, he attended Haverhill Public Schools. He lived in Newburyport for the past fourteen years. Norman was involved with opportunity works program for many years and more recently was associated with the Harborside Adult Day Health Center retirement program. He was cared for by many loving people outside his immediate family. He loved camping, country music, Elvis and the Beatles. He leaves his sisters and their husbands, Dorothy and Robert Foucault, and Pearl and Jay Hanagan, of Bradford, nieces and nephews, Darlene Osterman, Deborah Foucault Ethridge, Scott, Amy, and Brian Hanagan, all of Haverhill, his best friend and roommate, Dave Lapre, and Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.

Diana M. (Derr) Wagner, 64
HAVERHILL, MA - Diana M. (Derr) Wagner, 64, of Haverhill, died Sunday, Nov.26, 2006 at Caritas Holy Family Hospital in Methuen after a brief illness.
She was born in Coaldale, PA, daughter of the late, Paul and Mary (Defrehn) Derr and has lived in Haverhill for over twenty-five years. She was a graduate of Tamaqua High school. Diana was employed as an Administrative Assistant for Dynamics Research Corp. in Andover for over nineteen years, although that was her career, her favorite job was that of loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, she was especially proud of raising two beautiful daughters. She loved spending time with her family, enjoyed swimming, crafts, and was an avid seamstress.
She leaves her beloved daughters, Kimberly A. Zaiss and her husband, Thomas, of Mequon, Wisconsin, Pamela L. Poulin and her husband Aaron, of Methuen, sisters and brothers in law, Candice and Kenneth Moyer, Jan Wychulis, and Lorraine and Jay Stidham, all of Pennsylvania, cherished grandchildren, Abigail, Ashley, Renee, and Emma, stepmother, Renate Derr, of North Carolina, and several nieces and nephews.

Rita F. (Holloran) Coppola, 78
HAVERHILL, MA - Rita F. (Holloran) Coppola, 78 a lifelong resident of Haverhill, died Thursday evening, November 16, 2006 at Penacook Place after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Haverhill, one of eleven children, to the late, Thomas and Mary (MacIntyre) Holloran. She was 1945 Graduate of Haverhill High School. Mrs. Coppola was employed as an inspector for the Honeywell Corporation in Lawrence for over twenty years, retiring in 1989.
A devoted mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her loving family. The widow of Francis M. Coppola, who died in 1977, she leaves a son and daughter in law, Robert and Lois Coppola, of Haverhill, two daughters and their husbands, Christine and Michael Cikacz, of Chester, NH, and Mary and Gerald Brown, of Haverhill, two sisters, Ann Morris, of Groveland, and Theresa Ashe, of Haverhill, her cherished grandchildren, Willis Coppola and his wife Jennifer, Sarah, Robert, and Paul Coppola, all of Haverhill, and Molly Cikacz , of Chester, NH, sisters in law, Marguerite Holloran, of Concord, NH, Rita Holloran, of Haverhill, Connie Powers, of Florida, and Lena Dionne, of Haverhill, a brother in law, Jean Roy, of Haverhill, special friends, Edward and Patricia Kimball, and Helen and Dianna Hanioan,and several nieces and nephews. Beatriz Bourdieu, 83
HAVERHILL, MA - Beatriz Bourdieu, 83, of Haverhill, died Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at Hannah Duston Healthcare.
She was born and educated in Buenos Aires, Argentina, daughter of the late, Alfredo and Victorina (Zabala) Bourdieu and lived, in Puerto Rico, before moving to Haverhill over twenty years ago. Miss Bourdieu was a librarian and teacher at the American Military Academy in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico before moving to Haverhill. She was involved in social work throughout the Merrimack Valley, working in the WIC program in Lawrence. She enjoyed traveling, loved sports, especially baseball and her beloved Red Sox.
She leaves a nephew and his wife, Fred and Lynn Ramella, of Haverhill, a sister, Anne Brana, of Buenos Aires, grand-niece, and grand-nephews, Holly, Sam, and Joe Ramella, of Haverhill, and many nieces and nephews in Argentina.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 4, at 9:00 AM from the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill, with a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. James Church, Winter St. Haverhill. Burial is private. P. Marie Jennings, 67
HAVERHILL, MA - P. Marie Jennings, 67, of Haverhill, formerly of Lynn and Peabody, died Monday, October 30, 2006, at Hannah Duston Healthcare after a brief illness.
She was born and educated in Lynn, daughter of the late, Cornealius and Philomena M. (Costa-Concella) Jennings. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Grammar School and High School, class of 1957. She had lived in Haverhill for the past ten years, previously residing in Peabody. Miss. Jennings was employed by the New England Telephone Company for close to thirty years. She worked in the Salem and Boston offices as the I.T. Manager, in the computer training department. Marie was known by her friends as a kind and generous person. She loved animals, mystery programs, dancing, and was an avid reader. She had a great sense of humor and often laughed at herself. She was an extremely positive person who always replied when asked how she was, that she was just fine no matter her discomfort or pain.
She leaves her loving friend and caregiver with whom she had lived, Jean A. Willis, of East Kingston, NH, and her dear and special friend, Carolyn A. Reaney, of Haverhill, she also leaves many close friends she considered her extended family. She was predeceased by a sister, Francelynne Jennings. Marie’s friends wish to greatfully acknowledge the staff at Hannah Duston Healthcare and the Vista Care Hospice services staff for their kind, loving, and thoughtful attention given to their good friend.

Madilyn Grace Bowler
HAVERHILL, MA - Madilyn Grace Bowler, Infant daughter of Michael J. and Amy M. (Evans) Bowler, died October 8, 2006 at Winchester Hospital. Along with her parents, she leaves a brother, Sean, a sister, Abigail, Grandparents, Maureen P. Bowler, of Haverhill, Paul Evans, of Plaistow, and Shawna and Robert DeFrancesco, of Deerfield, Great Grandmothers, Norma Evans, of Woburn, and Lillian Chipman, of Canton, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her grandfather, John P. Bowler, Sr., predeceased her in October, 2002.

Stephen H. Spencer, 56
NEWTON, NH - Stephen H. Spencer, 56, of Newton, died suddenly at his home Friday, September 15, 2006.
He was born in Lynn, the son of William and Jean (Gilcrease) Spencer and was a 1967 Graduate of Lynnfield High School. Mr. Spencer owned and operated the Rockingham Auto and Marine in Newton for over twenty-seven years. A kind and generous man, he was known for his sense of humor. He loved traveling with his family to Sebago Lake, boating, camping, and four wheeling with his grandchildren. He was a Vietnam Veteran, proudly serving his country as a pilot in the Marines.
He leaves his wife, Donna J. (Danforth) Spencer, two daughters and their husbands, Jean L. and Ryan Turner, and Michelle L. and Keith Gulezian, all of Newton, mother, Jean (Gilcrease) Spencer, of St. Petersburg, FLA, a brother and sister in law, James and Joyce Spencer, of Tewksbury, four grandchildren, Damian, Jared, Christen, and Dylan, and nieces and nephews.

Kenneth J. Baddock, 80
HAVERHILL, MA - Kenneth J. Baddock, 80, of Haverhill, died Friday, September 1, 2006 at the Radius of Danvers healthcare facility after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Baddock was born in Framingham, the son of the late Loren W. and Mary L. (Marble) Baddock, and lived her most of his life. He attended Haverhill High School. He and his late wife, Margaret (Bruce) Baddock, retired to Crystal River, Florida, for twenty-five years. Following her death he returned to Haverhill. A World War II Veteran, he proudly served in the U.S. Army, and received European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal.
A Plumber by trade, he was employed by the Bixby International Co. in Haverhill, for many years until retiring in 1977. He was devoted to his family, and loved hunting and fishing. He is survived by a son, James W. Baddock, of Haverhill, a daughter and son in law, Joan L. and Brian Florio, of Shirley, two grandchildren, Kenneth and Melissa, and one great-grandchild.
At the request of Mr. Baddock, there are no calling hours. Funeral services are private. Burial will take place with full military honors in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. Catherine Ann (Cole) Pratt, 75
READING, MA - Catherine Ann (Cole) Pratt, 75, of Reading, died Friday, August 25, at her home, surrounded by her loving family, after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Pratt was born in Andover, the daughter of the late, Philip and Mildred (Vogel) Pratt. She leaves her beloved husband, David C. Pratt, of Reading, two sons, Philip, and Daniel, a daughter, Mary Tolosko, and six grandchildren.

Walter F. Dorr, 71
HAVERHILL, MA - Walter F. Dorr, 71, of Haverhill, died Saturday, August 26, 2006, at the Merrimack Valley Hospital, of A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).
He was the beloved husband of Gloria L. (Dinsmore) Dorr for over forty-six years. He was born in Haverhill, the son of the late, Walter F. and Katherine (Madigan) Dorr and lived here all of his life. Mr. Dorr was a 1952 Graduate of St. James High School. He was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. Upon his return from the war, he continued his education, graduating from Merrimack College in 1961. He then became a supervisor at the former Western Electric/At&T in North Andover for the next thirty-five years, retiring in 1996.
This past February, Walt’s family and friends celebrated his seventy-first birthday with a fundraising event at the Haverhill Elk’s Hall. Over three hundred people attended the gala, raising twelve thousand dollars on behalf of the Mass Chapter of the A.L.S. Association.
Besides his wife, Walt is survived by son, Kevin J. and wife, Tracey (Dow) Dorr, son, Christopher J. and wife, Alison (Mundy) Dorr, granddaughter, Cayley H. Dorr, and grandson, Braden M. Dorr, all of Haverhill, two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Cavan and her husband David, of West Boylston, Mrs. Catherine Reardon, of Haverhill, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Reverend Kenneth (Jack) Dorr, O.F.M., Richard B. Dorr, and Lawrence Dorr.

Dominic R. Meli, 76
HAVERHILL, MA - Dominic R. Meli, 76, of Haverhill died on Sunday, August 20, 2006 at the Caritas Holy Family Hospital in Methuen after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Revere, son of the late Joseph and Maria (Dovi) Meli, and was a graduate of Boston Trade School. Mr. Meli moved to Haverhill over twenty years ago after previously residing in Stoneham.
He worked as a mechanical technician for the Federal Aviation Administration at various airports throughout New England for over thirty three years, retiring in 1986. After retirement Mr. Meli worked in maintenance for the Hampton and Holiday Inns.
He leaves his beloved wife of twenty four years, Lillian M. (Hayes) Meli of Haverhill, a son and daughter in law Steven and Ann Meli of Winchester, two daughters and their husbands, Donna and Louis Marpoli of Malden, and Theresa and Brendan Ramsden of Amesbury, and three step children and their spouses; Marie and Paul McPherson of Haverhill, Paul and Susan DeSimone of Pelham, NH, and Suzanne and William Porrier of Pelham, NH, a sister in law Kay Cerniglia of Revere, twelve grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Meli was a member of the Wakefield Elks and a Korean War Veteran serving in the Army. A devoted family man, he loved dancing, trips to the beaches and Foxwoods.

HAVERHILL, MA - William T. “Billy” Amirault, 46, of Haverhill, died Friday, August 18, 2006 peacefully at his home ,surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Haverhill, he was the son of Robert T. and Dorothy M. (Sanville) Amirault. He attended Whittier Regional Vo-Tech where he trained in culinary arts. Billy was a stay at home dad, and was involved in every aspect of his children’s lives. He loved sports, and coached hockey and baseball.
He leaves his loving wife of 25 years, Marcia J. (Travers) Amirault, a son Conor W., a daughter, Monica A., a brother and sister in law, Mark J. and Joan, of Haverhill, four sisters and their husbands, Linda A. and Jay Blake, of Plum Island, Mary Ellen and Joseph Deveau, of Haverhill, Regina D. and John Schulman, of Bradford, and Lori A. and Anthony Neves, of Haverhill, mother in law, Cecile A. Travers, of Haverhill, many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Sunday, at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St.(Rte 125) from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services and burial are private. Barbara I. (Buckley) Gilmore, 84 flag
HAVERHILL, MA - Barbara I. (Buckley) Gilmore, 84, died Monday, August 14, 2006 at the Wingate of Haverhill nursing home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late, Fred ”Ted” and Lucienne (Foisy) Buckley and lived here all of her life. She was a 1939 graduate of Haverhill High school. Mrs. Gilmore was a WWII Veteran, serving her country in the Navy WAVES as a code breaker for Naval Intelligence. On the fiftieth anniversary of the end of WWII, she proudly received an official citation from the Massachusetts State Senate for the honorable service to her country and the Exceptional Service Award from the National Security Agency recognizing her for her part in breaking the German and Japanese codes, therefore bringing WWII to an earlier victory and saving many lives.
Barbara was a gifted artisan, she practiced beautiful needlepoint, and was a certified instructor for the HALLI Oriental Rug design. She taught at the Essex Agricultural School and in her home for many years. She enjoyed showing her craft in exhibition at the Topsfield Fair.
Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Thursday, August 17, at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte.125) Haverhill, from 5 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday morning at 10:00 AM in the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home. Burial will follow at her family lot in St. James Cemetery, Primrose St. Haverhill. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 36 Cameron Ave. Cambridge, MA 02140-1102.

William N. Cantwell, 85
HAVERHILL, MA - William N. Cantwell, 85, of Haverhill, died Saturday, Aug. 5, at Holy Family Hospital with family and close friends at his side.
He was born March 18, 1921, in Haverhill, the son of the late Bernard J. and Ellen (O’Rourke) Cantwell. He was the widower of the late Helen (Brennan) Cantwell who died in 1994. Mr. Cantwell leaves his son, William, and daughter-in-law Rene’ (Mitchell) Cantwell of Haverhill. He also leaves their children, his grandchildren Jennifer and Benjamin Cantwell, also of Haverhill.
Mr. Cantwell graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1939. He was in the United States Navy in from 1939 to 1945, serving during World War II in the Pacific as a Marine corpsman. After returning from military service, he worked various jobs in Haverhill, including positions with the school department and Haverhill Paper Board Company. He also worked as a health inspector for the city of Haverhill for 18 years before retiring.
Mr. Cantwell was a fourth-degree knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Amvets, American Legion, All Saints Parish and a former member of St. James, St. John the Baptist, and St. George parishes.
Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Monday, August 7, at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home 486 Main St. (Rte125) Haverhill, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM . A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM in All Saints Church, Haverhill. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery, primrose St. Haverhill.
