Jack Raymond Sneddon
Jack Raymond Sneddon, 75, of Knightsville, died Saturday evening April 10, 2004 at Union Hospital.
He was born in Knightsville on March 11, 1929, the son of William A. and Ina Lunsford Sneddon. He graduated from Van Buren High School Class of 1947. As a teenager, he worked on the railroad in the summer. After graduation, he worked at the 'Old Dust Bowl' factory and the Arketex Ceramic Corporation. In addition, he served in the Army for two years stationed in California, Japan and Korea with the HQ Co 24th division and became a corporal. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and Bronze Star Attachment, United Nations Service Medal and medal issued by the Korean Government on the 50th anniversary of the war.
He retired from the US Penitentiary of Terre Haute in 1983 after 28 years as a correctional officer and counselor. He then worked for Dusty Rhodes Ford for 17 years and as a buyer/seller at the auto auctions in Indianapolis. His most recent employment was driving cars for many of his friends in the used car business.
He served on the Knightsville Town Board for eight years and was currently serving of the K& H Sewer Board of Knightsville.
He was a member of the Knightsville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife Joan Gallez Sneddon, whom he married August 26, 1950; children: Emily Maffioli of Terre Haute, Scott Sneddon and wife Debbie of Harmony, Cheryl French and husband Ron of Brazil, and Garry Sneddon and wife Jackie of Knightsville; grandchildren, Jamie Elwell and husband Scott, Lisa Pearson and husband Brian, Tina Miller and husband Bob, Ron Maffioli, Jr. and Toni Moore and husband John. Also surviving are: eleven great-grandchildren, one sister Norma Vandiver and husband Melvin of Indianapolis; two brothers, Paul Sneddon and wife Annabelle of Brazil, Jim Sneddon and wife Carolyn of Carrollton, GA; 3 sisters in law; Jean Sneddon Martin and Harriet Sneddon and Mary Ann Phillips and husband Bob; brother in law Mack L. McCullough; and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Bill Sneddon, Ken Sneddon and Evelyn Rissler.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11:00am at French Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Aselage officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery, with military graveside rites provided by American Legion Post #2 and VFW #1127. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8pm.

Larry Wayne McDonald
Larry W. McDonald, 57, of Rockville and formerly of Brazil passed away Friday, July 23, 2004 in the Lee Allan Bryant Nursing Home. He was born June 20, 1947 in Brazil to Charles E. and Virginia E. Geilhart McDonald. He was a Staff Sgt in the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam where he received the Army Commendation Medal with V device; Good Conduct Medal bronze clasp with two loops; Vietnam Service Medal; Republic of Vietanm Campaign Medal with device 1960; Combat Infantryman Badge and was a Sharpshooter (M-16 Rifle). Mr. McDonald was a member of the Christ Community Church, a life member of the Brazil American Legion and VFW, the Rockville American Vets, the Brazil Moose and Eagles and Masonic Lodge #541, F and AM. His parents and a brother, James E. McDonald preceded him in death. Survivors include a daughter, Penny Nevins of Brazil; brother, Bill McDonald and wife Joyce of Brazil; 3 granddaughters, Virginia and Mary Raab of Brazil and Bobbi Raab of Terre Haute; Aunts and Uncles, Wayne and Evelyn Parkins of Brazil, Irene McDonald of Brazil and Fred and Dorothe Geilhart of Arlington, Texas; and Jackie McDonald, sister-in-law and a large extended family.
Services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2004 in the Miller Memorial Chapel with visitation Tuesday, July 27, 2004 from 5-8 p.m. Burial will be in Summit Lawn Cemetery.

Florence R. Currie
Florence R. Currie, 91, died Thursday, July 22 at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove. Florence was born March 25, 1913 to John J. and Mahala Tribble Steuerwald. She was a 1931 graduate of Brazil High School, and a 1935 graduate of Indiana State University. She earned her Masters degree from Butler University. In 1939 she married Stanley F. Currie of Harmony, IN. He preceded her in death in 1969.
She taught school at Valparaiso, Brownsburg, and Burkhart schools in Indianapolis, retiring in 1981 after teaching for 34 years in the Indiana school systems. She also volunteered at Methodist Hospital for over 30 years. Florence was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
She will be missed by her son David T. Currie, her grandsons John and Mark, and her daughter-in-law Kathleen Haley of Tiburon, California. She is also survived by her brother Mac F. Steuerwald of Knightsville, her sister Francis Hamilton of Brazil, a niece Sharon Honn of Frankfort, and nephews Tom Cook of Petalums, California and John A. Hamilton of Arlington Heights, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by a sister Nian Mary Cook.
Graveside memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Summit Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Ernie Rush officiating.

Glen Janice McCullough
Glen Janice McCullough, 83, of Center Point died July 26, 2004 at 12:30 pm at Harborside Healthcare Facility in Terre Haute.
She was born December 30, 1920 in Vigo County the daughter of James E. Thomas and Glen Barnhart Thomas.
She was a member of the Saline City Church, Shamrock Home-Ec Club, Saline City Ladies Aid. She enjoyed cooking, flower gardening, knitting and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Grace Knox; two brothers, Charles Thomas and R.J. 'Pat' Thomas.
She is survived by her husband Earl D. McCullough; two sons and daughter in laws, Robert and Barbara McCullough of Jasper and James and Maxine McCullough of Center Point; four grandchildren, Angie Malone and husband Mike, Jamie McCullough, Rachel McCullough, and Robert McCullough; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Pickett, Tristen Malone, Devon Malone, and Austin McCullough; one sister, Rhoda Roeschlein; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 am at French Funeral Home with Revs. Tom Roeschlein and Chester Hapenny officiating. Burial will follow in Ashboro Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home.

Verna C. Dierdorf Butt
Verna C. Dierdorf Butt, 96, of Brazil died at 1:35 PM Friday, September 17, 2004 in the Clay County Health Center where she had been a resident since February.
She was born June 26, 1908 in Clay County the daughter of William C. Dierdorf and Elizabeth Romas Dierdorf.
She graduated from Staunton High School in 1926. In 1928, she married the love of her life, A. Lloyd Butt, and together they reared their family on a grain/dairy farm in Posey Township.
Verna was a talented seamstress and craftsman. Besides making garments for herself, which won her local and state awards, she delighted in making unique upholstered footstools for each of her children and grandchildren. Also, she designed handcrafted placemats made out of recycled greeting cards for each family memeber with always the individual hobbies and vocations in mind.
She was known throughout her extended family as a marvelous cook, and her noodles and angel food cakes were always "winners."
She was a member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, and faithfully attended until failing health made it impossible.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bill A. Butt of Shepardstown, W.Va. and Virgil and Mary Jo Butts of Brazil, two daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and Hubert Fagg of Brazil, and Mary and Steve Youtz of Commerce Township, MI; 13 grandchildren, Byron Fagg and wife Ruth E., Cathy Rodgers and husband Gary, Joan Mitchell and husband Jack, Amy Finchum and husband Kipp, Jamie Treash and husband Bob Jr., David Felling and wife Victoria, Cyndy Furlong and husband Rich, Jayne Goldsen, Jerry Butts and wife Elizabeth, Debi Sullivan, Susan Treash and husband Bob Sr., Scott Youtz and wife Candace, and Barbara Benedetto and husband Britton; 23 great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson; a sister-in-law, Irene Dierdorf and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years; and a brother Virgil Dierdorf.
Services will be Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Miller Memorial Chapel with Brother Walter Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in Summit Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Tuesday prior to services.
Betty Lou Hayes
Betty Lou Hayes, 73, Brazil, died at 12:29 a.m., Tuesday, September 21, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital following an extended illness.
Born in Terre Haute on January 1, 1931, her parents were Donald Foltz and Dorothy Laymon Foltz who later moved to Staunton. She attended Staunton High School through the eleventh grade and later earned a G.E.D.
While residing in South Carolina she became a Certified Nurses Assistant and then became a beautician.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1127, Ladies Auxilliary of Brazil.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four infant children, and one son, Robert A. Hendricks.
Surviving are her husband, Robert W. Hayes, who she married November 16, 1992; one daughter and her husband, Lisa and Glen Watler, Brazil; two step-daughters and their husbands, Sherry and Rick Lewis, Kenna and Tony Hill, all of Brazil; seven grandchildren, Don Watler, Charla Freeman, Kali Watler, Stephanie McCains, Shyanna Lewis, and Alex Hitt, all of Brazil, and Jessica Freeman, Georgetown, Texas; one brother, Donald Foltz, in California; three sisters, Pat Foltz Jacobson, of Florida, Carolyn Tilley McGinty and husband, Al, and Peggy Tilley Hunter, all of Brazil; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in Miller Memorial Chapel. Rev. Tony Alstott will officiate, and interment
will be in Summit Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, with a V.F.W. Auxiliary walk through at 6:00 p.m.

Marcella Duree Todd
Marcella Duree Todd, 85, died October 11, 2004 in St. Vincent Clay Hospital.
Born July 24, 1919, in Montezuma, Indiana, she was the daughter of Jessie Amerman Duree and Charles Duree. She is preceded in death by both parents, husband, William E. Todd, brother, William Duree, and sister, Winona Van Hook.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn J. Anthony of Clinton, Missouri, and Kimberly D. Bruning of Clarksville, Tennessee. She had 4 granddaughters, 6 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, 2 nieces Jeanne McMichael of Brazil, Linda Gray of Lawrenville, Illinois, and nephew Dennis Duree also of Lawrenville, Illinois.
At Marcella's request, cremation will follow. Private interment
will be at Oakland Cemetery in Montezuma, Indiana.

Gladys M. Sutherlin
Gladys M. Sutherlin, 91, Terre Haute, formerly of Plainfield and Brownsburg, died at 3:15 a.m., Tuesday, October 12, at Harborside Healthcare in Terre Haute where she had been a resident-patient for over four years.
She was born in Hendricks County, IN, on September 7, 1913, a daughter of Robert and Iva Kemp Barnes.
For 26 years she had been employed in the parts department of General Motors Corporation, Indianapolis. She retired on October 1, 1978.
She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Terre Haute and was a former member of Faith Baptist Church in Avon.
Her husband, Ira D. Sutherlin, died in 1952. Also preceding were a son-in-law, Robert Wilson, a grandson Robert Wilson, Jr., and seven brothers and sisters.
Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Wilson, Terre Haute; two sisters, Hazel Becktel and Martha Silliman, both of Plainfield; two brothers, John Barnes, Belleville, and Kenneth Barnes, Plainfield; five grandchildren, James D. Wilson, Michael Perry, Karla Buis, Starla Wilson, and Peter Wilson; 11 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in Miller Memorial Chapel with Pastor Warren Brokering officiating. Visitation is from 4:00 p.m. Thursday until the services. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday in Forest Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
Jack Harden
Jack Harden, 62 of Brazil died unexpectedly October 11, 2004 in the emergency room of St. Vincent Clay Hospital.
He was born September 16, 1942 in Clay County the son of Frank Harden and Ethel Miller Harden. He graduated from Brazil High School Class of 1962. While in high school, he was a member of a cross-country team that set a record for most consecutive wins.
After high school, he served in the Air Force from 1963- 1969. He later served in the Navy serving two tours in Viet Nam. He was a crew chief in jet engine maintenance. He served a total of 23 years in the military. He married Teresa Scharf Albright on September 2, 1989. He worked for the Brazil Housing Authority then later worked for the YMCA. He also enjoyed golfing and worked as a park ranger at Forest Park Golf Course for sometime. He was an active member of Christ Community Church. He was a devoted Christian who loved his church and his family.
He is survived by his wife Teresa; sons, Brian Albright of Brazil and Brady Albright of Indianapolis; five special young ladies; granddaughter Quinn Albright, nieces Brittany and Brooke Greenwood, Baylee Keyt, and foster daughter Chelsea Casey; his twin sister Jacquelyn Evans and husband Jerry, sisters Shirley Roeschlein, and Darlene Webb and husband Jim; brother Jerry Harden and wife Janet; sister in law, Donna Harden; mother and father in law, Bill and Betty Scharf; sisters in law, Tammy Greenwood and husband Chris, and Teena Keyt; other nieces and nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one stepson, Brynn Albright; and a brother Bill Harden.
Services will be held Friday at 1:00pm at French Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8pm at again Friday prior to services.

Ethel L. Nevins
Ethel L. Nevins, 91, Brazil, died at 8:24 p.m. Monday, October 11, at the Clay Health Center were she had been living for over two years.
She was born in southern Clay County on september 25, 1913. Her parents were Charles and Effie Ellis Horton, and she was a graduate of Clay City High School.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brazil and had resided here most of her life.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Daniel Earl Nevins, in December 1991.
Surviving are two sons, Charles Nevins, and his wife Carolyn, Terre Haute, and David Nevins, Brazil; one daughter, Carolyn Carrone, New Orleans; one brother, John Horton, Coal City; three sisters, Agnes Sinders and Juanita Shonk, both of Clay City, and Iva Hubble, Jasonville; 13 grandchildren, Kathryn, Anna, Danny, Summer, Stacy and Charlie Nevins, Jennifer Stinson; Daniel P. and Michael Carrone, James Cass, Amy Heading, Derek and Patty Nevins; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Miller Memorial Chapel. Rev. Robert Sampson will officiate, and burial will be in the Sink Cemetery south of Clay City. Visitation is from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday.
