SILVER SPRINGS — Harland E. Markell, 75, a trucking manager for Farmland Dairies in Wallington, N.J., died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000.
A native of Romulus, N.Y., he moved to Silver Springs from Hawthorne, N.J., eight years ago. Mr. Markell was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Doris N. Hamilton Markell, Silver Springs; sons, Robert Markell, Oakland, N.J., and Don Markell, River Vale, N.J.; daughters, Barbara Markell, Oakland, and Linda Gnatowski, White Meadow Lake, N.J.; brother, Bill Markell, Palm Harbor; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

DUNNELLON — James Paul Nicholes Jr., 66, a retired upholsterer, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, in Ocala.
A native of Hempstead, N.Y., he moved to Dunnellon from Pompano Beach in 1984. Mr. Nicholes was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He served in Korea with the U.S. Marine Corps.

OCALA — William Stark, 76, a retired painter for the aircraft industry, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Munroe Regional Medical Center.
A native of Torrance, Scotland, he moved to Ocala from Holyoke, Mass., 20 years ago. Mr. Stark was Protestant. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

MCINTOSH — James T. Willis, 80, a retired insurance executive, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Estelle's Hospice House.
A native of Bowling Green, Ky., he moved to McIntosh from Clearwater 16 years ago. Mr. Willis was a member of McIntosh United Methodist Church, American Legion Post No. 7 and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

OCALA — Gordon C. Johnson Sr., 83, a retired plant superintendent for True Temper Corp., died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Munroe Regional Medical Center.
A native of Portland, N.Y., he came to Ocala from Fredonia, N.Y., in 1978. Mr. Johnson was involved in a number of organizations including being a 50-year member of the Forest Lodge F&AM 166 of Fredonia; United Methodist Church in Ocala; former member of the Lake Side Club of Dunkirk, N.Y., and as a young man served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Bangs Johnson; sons, Gordon Johnson Jr., Steamberg, N.Y., and Kenneth Johnson, Erie, Pa.; daughter, Sharon Privateer, Fredonia, N.Y.; brother, Roger Johnson, Ocala; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

BELLEVIEW — Shirley M. Basler, a retired program coordinator for Widowed Persons Service of Lake County, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Sylvia's Hospice House.
A native of Baltimore, she moved to Belleview in 1971. Mrs. Basler was a member of Belleview United Methodist Church and was executive secretary of the Belleview Chamber of Commerce from 1974 to 1977.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorinda Guinn and Lori Zinn, both of Ocala; two sisters, Linda Bumgardner, Hanover, Md., and Betty Lou Jaworski, Severna Park, Md.; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Donna Basler.
