STARKE — Gladys Mary Chesser, 80, a homemaker, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000.
Mrs. Chesser was a native and a lifelong resident of Bradford County. She was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Janice Lawson, Starke, Glenda Faircloth, Climax, Ga., and Patti Carney, Dunnellon; sons, Jerry Chesser, Fort McCoy, and Johnny Chesser, Climax; sisters, Hazel Starr, Waldo, and Edna Dyal, Jacksonville; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

OCALA — Gertrude Cooper, 74, a homemaker, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at her home.
A native of Havana, she moved here from Palatka 20 years ago. Mrs. Cooper was a Seventh-day Adventist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvan V. Cooper, who died April 27, 2000.
Survivors include her nieces, Ruby Wilson, Jacksonville, Leola Benniefield, Tampa, and Lillie M. Peterson, Fort Lauderdale; and nephews, Johnnie L. Larkins, Havana, and Henry L. Manuel, Los Angeles.

Vincent P. Friel, 86
OCALA — Vincent P. Friel, 86, a quality control inspector for Schawsheem, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Ocala Regional Medical Center.
A native of Lawrence, Mass., he moved to Florida in 1985. Mr. Friel was a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by his brother, Charles Friel, North Andover, Mass.; and a niece.

Gary Hoyt, 63
ARCHER — Gary Hoyt, 63, retired, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, in Gainesville.
A native of Miami, he moved here in 1962. Mr. Hoyt retired from Bell South, after 35 years of service. He was a member of Communication Workers of America, Local No. 3105; Telephone Pioneers, Gainesville; Blue Springs Hunt Club; and the Gainesville Hunt Club. Mr. Hoyt served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Coast Guard. He was Christian.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christa Hoyt.Survivors include his wife, Dianna Hoyt, Archer; daughter, Sandra Hoyt, Gainesville; stepdaughter, Laurie Necker, Archer; stepson, Mitchell Londrie, Gainesville; mother, Jewell Hoyt, Miami; brother, George Hoyt, Tampa; sisters, Pat Sawusch, Stuart, Hilda Wetmore, Key Biscayne, Betty Sue Bertzel, Key Largo; and two grandchildren.

POMPANO BEACH — Colette M. Lazarus, 73, a retired self-employed courier for Corporate Express, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Sylvia's Hospice House.
A native of Chicago, she moved here in 1953. Mrs. Lazarus enjoyed cross stitching and needlepoint.
She was preceded in death by a son, Joel Lazarus.
Survivors include her sons, Jaime Lazarus, Ocala, and Jonathan Lazarus, Hudson; daughter, Dani Cummins, Virginia Beach; sister, Joureene Pannier, Chicago; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

OCALA — Harry C. Lewis Jr., 91, a retired tool maker for American Locomotive Co., died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Sunshine Gardens.
A native of Auburn, N.Y., he moved here from New Smyrna Beach in 1996. Mr. Lewis was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Knox Lewis.
Survivors include his sons, Dick Lewis, Concord, N.C., Don Lewis, Augusta, Ga., and Jack Lewis, New Orleans; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

BELLEVIEW — John G. Lunday, 49, a mechanic in the automotive racing industry, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Lunday was a native of Wildwood. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and received the Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal, National Defense Service medal, an Air medal, Vietnam Service medal with three bronze stars; an Aircraft Crewman's badge; and an Army Commendation medal. Mr. Lunday was Catholic.
Survivors include his sons, Eddie Miller, Leesburg, Jack Lunday and Jeff Warden, both of Austin, Texas, Stephan Lunday, Jon Lunday and Justin Norcross, all of Belleview; daughter, Emma M. OCALA — William P. Owens Jr., 67, a retired production manager for Crown Cork and Seal Company Inc., died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000.
A native of Philadelphia, he moved here from Pennsylvania in 1996. Mr. Owens served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Owens.
