Leo R. Hadley, 64
HOMOSASSA — Leo Roosevelt Hadley, 64, a retired division chief with the United States Armed Forces Service Center, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000.
A native of Chicago, he moved here from Woodford, Va., in 1992. Mr. Hadley retired from the Armed Forces Service Center after 36 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and Vietnam. Mr. Hadley was a member of the National Defense Transportation Association; Natural Coast Republican Club; and he was a former president of the Citrus County Council.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Nora Bargmann Hadley, Homosassa; son, Jeffrey Lee Hadley, Homosassa; daughters, Selina Suzette Hadley Ford, Crystal River and Cynthia Lee Hadley Richey, Knoxville, Tenn.; brother, Jimmie Clay Hadley, Shelbyville, Ind.; sister, Ruth G. Hadley, Shelbyville; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

OCALA — Jack Hanson, 65, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Ocala Regional Medical Center.
A native of North Platte, Neb., he moved here seven years ago.

OCALA — Linda Rave Kemp, 61, a homemaker, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000.
A native of Valdosta, Ga., she moved here from West Palm Beach in 1973. Mrs. Kemp was a member of Riverland Baptist Church.

OCALA — Catherine A. Massey, 51, a homemaker, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Sylvia's Hospice House.
A native of Bennington, Vt., she moved here in 1990. Mrs. Massey was a graduate of Bennington Catholic High School.

DUNNELLON — Herman "Shorty" Mills, 61, a self-employed construction contractor, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, in Ocala.
A native of Pensacola, he moved here from Miami in 1984. Mr. Mills was a member of Mills' Motorsports Racing Team of Ocala and Inverness.

BRADENTON — Loise Karabis Socolof, 75, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Blake Hospital.
A native of Kansas City, she moved to Florida in 1951. Mrs. Socolof was author of "Gerbils as Pets" and "Keeping and Breeding Gerbils." She was founder of Children's Theater, St. Petersburg; a member of the Pinellas County School Board; former board member of Manatee Players; and director of South Florida Museum.
Survivors include her husband, Ross B. Socolof, Bradenton; daughters, Jodi Socolof, New York City and Amy Socolof, California; sons, H. William Oppenheimer, Ocala and Mark. V. Oppenheimer, Wisconsin; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

BEVERLY HILLS — William R. Stevens, 80, retired construction superintendent, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000.
A native of Detroit, he moved to Florida from Michigan in 1974. Mr. Stevens retired from Detroit Edison after 28 years and from Florida Power and Light, after 10 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Stevens was Lutheran.

MANDARIN — Robert E. Throckmorton, 75, a retired sales representative for West Brothers, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, South Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jacksonville.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved here from New Jersey 17 years ago. Mr. Throckmorton served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was Catholic.

CITRA — Patrick A. Basham, 66, a retired carpenter in the construction industry, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000.
A native of Sophia, W.Va., he moved to Citra from Summerfield in 1983. Mr. Basham was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He also was an avid fisherman.

SALT SPRINGS — Rita L. Buffum, 77, a retired office manager and secretary, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Sylvia's Hospice House.
Mrs. Buffum was a native of Proctor, Vt. She retired from Rutland Tambrands, after 26 years of service. Mrs. Buffum was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Buffum Sr.; and grandson, David O'Rourke Jr.
