OCALA — Bernice M. Thomas, 71, a retired Marion County school cafeteria worker, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Ocala Regional Medical Center.
A native of Alapha, Ga., she moved here from Georgia 48 years ago. Mrs. Thomas was a member of First Christian Church and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 29.
Survivors include her mother, Helen Horton, Ocklawaha; daughter, Bobbie Sue Woodard, Ocala; sons, Robert D. Thomas, Ocala, and Stephen F. Thomas, Macon, Ga.; sisters, Nora L. Thomas, Warner Robbins, Ga., Lilly Rousey, Tifton, Ga., Ann Smith, Ray City, Ga., Velma Fail and Martha Cook, both of Ocklawaha, and Hazelene Reaene, Glinda Winfrey and Lola Scaggs, all of Ocala; brothers, Preston Driskell, Ocklawaha, Howard "Buddy" Horton, Weirsdale, Herman Horton, Lorida, and Alfred Horton, Ocala; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Thomas, who died on April 16, 1999.

A native of Vicksburg, Miss., she moved here one month ago from Mississippi. She was a member of the Crawford Street United Methodist Church in Vicksburg.
