DUNNELLON — Linda T. Patterson, 59, an engineer, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, in Gainesville.
A native of Chattanooga, Tenn., she moved here from Miami 18 years ago. Mrs. Patterson worked for Southern Bell for 22 years.
Survivors include her father, Al Tate, Dunnellon; husband, Thomas E. Patterson, Dunnellon; sons, Gary Patterson, Dunnellon, and John Patterson, Melbourne; daughters, Terri Markle, Dunnellon, Debbie Collier, Melbourne, and Sherry Owen, Clinton, Md.; sister, Cheryl Tucker, Dunnellon; and 11 grandchildren.

Estelle Strauch, 88
INGLIS — Estelle Strauch, 88, a retired saleswoman, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001.
A native of Jersey City, N.J., she moved here from Lutz 11 years ago. Mrs. Strauch was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Inglis.
Survivors include her sons, Louis Kazdal, Coral Springs, John Kazdal, Seattle, and Richard Kazdal, Inglis; daughter, Jeanette Hozian, Inglis; brother, Stanley Zachowski, Elgin, Ill.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Gertrude L. Bailey, 72
OCALA — Gertrude Lucille Bailey, 72, a retired Broward General Hospital medical records clerk, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001 at Ocala Regional Medical Center.
A native of Oil City, Pa., she moved here from Fort Lauderdale in 1990. Mrs. Bailey was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Kathy Weakland, Ocala, Kelly Lewis, Bluffton, Ind.; sons, Ron Thompson, Hernando, Mark Bailey, Deerfield; sisters, Judy Kullingr and Georgine Crop, both of Oil City; brothers, Don Finnefrock and George Beach, both of Oil City; and six grandchildren.

Concepcion Cotto, 88
OCALA — Concepcion Cotto, 88, a retired butcher, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001.
A native of Puerto Rico, he moved here from Freeport, N.Y., 11 years ago. Mr. Cotto was a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leocadia Maldonado.
Survivors include his sons, Lorenzo Cotto, Hollywood, Thomas Cotto, Bronx, N.Y., Raymond Cotto, Miami, Gerald Cotto and Sylvester Cotto, both of Ocala; daughters, Sylvia Ordaz, Miami, Porfidia Matos, Archer, Candida Rodriguez, Silver Springs; stepdaughters, Mariana Betances, Bronx, and Libreda Lopez, Queens, N.Y.; brother, Raynaldo Gonzalez, Bronx; 42 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren.

Anna T. Daniels, 81
OCALA — Anna T. Daniels, 81, a retired secretary for Travelers Insurance Co., died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at Sylvia's Hospice House.
A native of New York City, she moved here in 1986. Mrs. Daniels was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. She loved to sing.
Survivors include her brother, Bernard Clancy Jr., Ocala; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary E. Reilly.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice House of Marion County.

Menota G. DeShazo, 87
INVERNESS — Menota G. DeShazo, 87, of Inverness, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001.
A native of Safety Harbor, she moved here from Clearwater in 1985. Mrs. DeShazo was a Jehovah's Witness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. DeShazo, in 1999.
Survivors include sons, James DeShazo, Inverness, John DeShazo, Oldsmar; daughter, Lynette Lowe, Hays, Kan.; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Jose Gonzalez, 82
INVERNESS — Jose Gonzalez, 82, of Inverness, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at Crystal River. He was a custodian at Crystal River Primary School.
A native of Cuba, he moved here in 1971 from Flushing, N.Y.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Ofelia Addias Gonzalez, Inverness; sons, Michael Gonzalez, Inverness, and George Gonzalez, Orlando; and three grandchildren.

Carlos L. Griggs, 79
SILVER SPRINGS — Carlos L. Griggs, 79, a retired timber manager for the U.S. Forestry Service, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at Shands Hospital.
A native of Mount Dora, he was a longtime resident of Marion County. Mr. Griggs was a member of Ocklawaha Bridge Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Griggs, Silver Springs; sister, Louise Wood, Ocklawaha; daughters, Kathryn Sickling, Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Margie Hendon, Lisa Dreggors and Julie Sieg, all of Silver Springs; and five grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Carlos L. Griggs Scholarship for Nursing, CFCC Foundation, C/O Griggs.

OCKLAWAHA — Joseph R. Hamilton, 86, a retired lineman for Delmarva Power Co., died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at Munroe Regional Medical Center.
A native of Philadelphia, he moved to Ocklawaha from Wilmington, Del., in 1965.
Survivors include his daughter, Brenda K. Carpenter, St. Cloud; and brother, William Newton, Westgrove, Pa.

Renney Belle Humphries, 86
OCALA — Renney Belle Humphries, 86, a retired elementary school teacher, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at Munroe Regional Medical Center.
A native of Mayo, she moved here in 1940. Mrs. Humphries retired from the Marion County School System after 50 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ocala.
Survivors include her son, William C. Humphries, Ocklawaha; daughter, Carla A. Humphries, Ocala; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Wanda S. Hunter, 73
McINTOSH — Wanda S. Hunter, 73, a homemaker, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at New Horizon Rehabilitation Center.
A native of Big Springs, Texas, she moved here from Fernandina Beach in 1979. Mrs. Hunter attended Orange Lake Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Robert H. Hunter Jr., Ocala; daughters, Sue Rader, Ocala, Patricia A. Taylor, Eastman, Ga., Robin G. Hunter, Leesburg, and Sharon L. Zettle, McIntosh; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert H. Hunter Sr.

OCALA — Florence E. Lopatin, 74, of Ocala, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001.
A native of Freehold, N.J., she was a retired high school bus driver. She moved here from Freehold, N.J., 11 years ago.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Pagels, Freehold, N.J.; sister, Mildred Lane, Jackson, N.J.

Charles J. Matea, 71
OCALA — Charles J. Matea, 71, a retired U.S. Navy chief petty officer died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001 at his home.
A native of Beulah, Pa., he moved here from Key West in 1996. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the American Bowling Congress, Fleet Reserve Association, the Retired Enlisted Association and American Legion Post 354 of Marion Oaks. He also was a master mechanic for Mercury Outboard Motors.
Survivors include his wife Eleanor M. Matea, Ocala; son David Matea, Key West; daughter, Karen Richards, Goldsboro, N.C.; sisters, Emma McCully, Ramey, Pa., Florence Broberg, Mesa, Ariz.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Matea.

Orville L. Miller, 76
INVERNESS — Orville Lee Miller, 76, of Inverness, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001.
A native of Whitesburg, Ky., he moved here from Beckley, W.Va., in 1990. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and Korea, he was a retired regional sales manager for Phillip Morris. He was a Protestant.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Eula Shelton Miller, Inverness; sons, Dennis W. Miller, Tega Cay, S.C., Ronald Eugene Miller, Kingsbury, Texas, and Lloyd Darrell Miller, King of Prussia, Pa.; daughter, Patricia Lee Surbaugh, Suwanee, Ga.; brothers, John Miller and Don Miller, both of Beckley, W.Va., and James Miller, Scottsdale, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Jesse J. Moore, 73
SILVER SPRINGS — Jesse J. Moore, 73, a retired glass blower for Wheaton Glass, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001.
A native of Bridgeton, N.J., he moved here from Millville, N.J. in 1992. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of Glass Blowers, Metal, Pottery Workers Local #219 GBBA.
Survivors include daughters, Pearl Bates, Silver Springs, Kathleen Smith, Mauricetown, N.J.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Ruth Moore, in September.

BELLEVIEW — Wanda Negron, 39, a nurse/secretary for Munroe Regional Medical Center, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001.
A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Ms. Negron was Catholic.
Survivors include her father, Dalmacio T. Negron; mother, Carmen G. Rivera, both of Summerfield; son, Albert Shrum Jr.; daughter, Andrea Shrum, both of Belleview; brothers, Tomas Negron, Ocala, Wilfredo Negron, Silver Springs Shores, Raul Negron, Deltona, and Joe Negron, Summerfield; and sister, Carmen Bowman, Summerfield.

Harry Rice, 75
SUMMERFIELD — Harry "Bob" Rice, 75, a retired electrician, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001 at Munroe Regional Medical Center.
A native of Oil City, Pa., he moved here from Lisbon, Conn., 11 years ago. He was a Lutheran.
Mr. Rice was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the V.F.W. of Taftville, Conn., the Lions Club in Baltic, Conn., and a member of the auxiliary of the Connecticut State Police.
Survivors include his wife, Helen E. Rice, Summerfield; sons, John "Butch" Rice, Baltic, Conn., David Rice, Plainfield, Conn., and Billy Rice, Norwich, Conn.; daughter, Martha "Marty" Harris, Pensacola; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Rita Roth, 77
OCALA — Rita Roth, 77, a homemaker, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001.
A native of Jacksonville, Ill.,she moved here from Detroit in 1957. Mrs. Roth was a member of St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church in Belleview.
Mrs. Roth was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Gerard Roth, Ocala; sons, Jerry Roth, Homosassa, Leonard Roth, Summerfield, Mark Roth and Mike Roth, both of Ocala; daughters, Jennifer Godby, Belleview, Mary Sullivan, Anthony, Debbie Priest, Port Richie; brothers, Richard Mandeville, Summerfield, Leo Mandeville and Tom Mandeville, both of Houston; sister, Emma Farris, Gouldsboro, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Albert L. Shrum, 39
BELLEVIEW — Albert L. Shrum, 39, a self-employed electrician, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001.
A native of Cleveland, Mr. Shrum was a U.S. Army service member, and Baptist.
Survivors include his mother, Barbara Shrum, Ocala; son, Albert Shrum Jr.; daughter, Andrea Shrum, both of Belleview; brothers, Melvin Shrum, Charleston, W.Va., Barry Shrum, Ocala, and Keith Shrum, Summerfield; sister, Terry Shrum, Ocala.
