Lois Starbuck Drake
Lois Starbuck Drake, age 92, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Wednesday, June 30, 1999, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Drake was born n May 23, 1907, in Jacksonville, Fla., to the late James Reed and Ellen Brenner Starbuck. She had been a resident of Fort Walton Beach since 1945, moving from Panama City, Fla. She was city librarian of Fort Walton Beach Public Library for many years, beginning when it was the Women's Club Library, and was instrumental in the development of it into the present Fort Walton Beach Library. Mrs. Drake was a member of the original congregation at St. Simon's-on-the-Sound Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Drake was preceded in death by her husband, James Lee Drake. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Cornelia "Nealy" Emmerling and husband John of Shalimar, Fla.; and brother, James R. Starbuck of Alexandria, La.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Spencer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the animal charity of your choice; or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, in memory of Mrs. Lois Drake.
Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road N.E., Fort Walton Beach, is in charge of arrangements.

Ray A. Jimenez
Ray A. Jimenez, age 45, of Navarre, Fla., passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 2, 1999.
He was born on April 3, 1954, in Atmore, Ala., and was a resident of this area since 1988 when he moved here from Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark. He was Protestant by faith.
Mr. Jimenez honorably served his country for 21 years and later retired from the U.S. Air Force as a technical sergeant. He served from January 1988 to 1998 with the 6th SOS C-130, staff crew member, as a sensor operator at Hurlburt Field, Fla. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy of Navarre; parents, Pedro and Toni Jimenez of Davisville, Fla.; sons, Pete A. Jimenez of Alabama, Private Kevin Jimenez, stationed at Fort Drum, N.Y., and Steven Jimenez of Navarre; daughter, Melissa Jimenez of Navarre; brother, Pedro "Ike" Jimenez of Mobile, Ala.; sisters, Toni F. Silcox of Pensacola, Fla., Belinda Colbert of Davisville, and Laura Theresa Berry of Bratt, Fla.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 8, at Little Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla., with full military honors. A military chaplain will officiate at the service.

Bobbie Loo
Bobbie Zednick Loo, age 69, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Monday, July 5, 1999, at Westwood Retirement Center.
She was born in Santa Fe, N.M., on Aug. 21, 1930, to James and Bernice Norvell and had been living in this area since 1967. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, TOPS, YMCA, Belles and Beaux Square Dancing Club, and an avid bingo player at the Shrine Club.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a good friend to many people. She will be missed deeply and her memories will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, Daniel Loo of Mojave, Calif.; son, Joe and wife Carol Zednick of Fort Walton Beach; daughter, Linda and husband Eddie Cushing of Mary Esther, Fla.; brother, Harold Norvell of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister, Bessie Avery of Wyoming; grandchildren, Vincent, John and Courtney; and great-grandchildren, Haylley, Brandi and Michael.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, at McLaughlin Mortuary.
A funeral service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 8. Interment will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in the name of Bobbie Zednick Loo.

Edward Lee Chambless
Edward Lee Chambless, age 87, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Monday morning, July 5, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Chambless was born on Feb. 11, 1912, in Samson, Ala., to the late Benjamin and Roxie Chambless. He was a longtime resident of Fort Walton Beach and a self-employed utility contractor. Mr. Chambless was also an avid fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, S.A. Chambless and Sammy "Bud" Chambless. He is survived by his wife, Vessie O. Chambless; son, Donald L. Chambless; daughter, Judy Diane Tunnage and husband Curtis; brother, Capt. Rex Chambless; sisters, Winnie Brunson and Mary Brunson and husband Zack; sister-in-law, Dorita Chambless; grandchildren, Deborah Mae Gilbert, Daphne Rachelle Chambless, Lisa Marie Ward, Edward Curtis Tunnage, E. Marisa Ward and Christina O. Tunnage; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Frank Dole officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Northwest Florida, 490 Highway 85 north, Suite C, Niceville, FL 32578, in memory of Mr. Edward Chambless.

Winferd L. McKinley
Winferd L. "Mac" McKinley, age 84, died Friday afternoon, July 2, 1999, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1960 after 22 years of serving with the Navy, Army and Air Force. During his military career he earned five Battle Stars, each representing a major sea battle, including the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. He was an active member of the American Legion, Air Force Sergeant's Association, Kentucky Colonels, and Fraternal Order of Police.
He recently lost his wife Helene on Feb. 1, 1999, and has since been living with his son in Shalimar, Fla.
Survivors include his daughter, Donna McKinley Tharp of Kirkwood, Mo.; sons, Richard R. Guise of Thibodaux, La., Marvin L. McKinley of Shalimar, and James A. McKinley of Jefferson City, Mo.; brothers, Bruce McKinley of Titusville, Fla., and Jimmy McKinley of Newburgh, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8, at Koehler Funeral Home, Boonville Chapel, Ind., with the Rev. Dr. James R. White officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, and from 10 a.m. until service time on Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Florida; or to Shalimar United Methodist Church.

Joseph P. Synkonis Jr.
Joseph P. Synkonis Jr., age 85, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Monday, July 5, 1999, in a local hospital with his loving family, wife Bertha, daughter Bernadette, and son-in-law Richard Houts, and grandson Brett Houts surrounding him.
Mr. Synkonis was a prior resident of Philadelphia and a short-time resident of the Fort Walton Beach area. He was a local resident of Westwood Retirement Com-munity.
Mr. Synkonis was preceded in death by his son, Dr. Joseph P. Synkonis of Farmington, Mich. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Bertha; daughter, Bernadette and son-in-law Richard Houts of Fort Walton Beach; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Synkonis of Farmington, Mich.; and grandchildren, Brett Houts, Joann Synkonis and Julie Encelewski.
Funeral services will be private, at the discretion of the family.

Loretto Marie Mateer
Loretto Marie Mateer, age 77, of Navarre, Fla., died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, in a local nursing facility.
Mrs. Mateer was a native of Atlanta and had resided most of her life in Hapsville, Ga. She had resided in Navarre since 1995 and was a member of the Navarre Methodist Church.
Mrs. Mateer was preceded in death by her husband, Edward B. Mateer; and son, Edward O. "Pat" Mateer.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Brenda Mateer of Navarre; brother and sister-in-law, Byron and Betty Rauschenberg of Marietta, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Lewis Funeral Home in Navarre from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 8.
Burial will be in Georgia.
Contributions may be made to Navarre United Methodist Church Building Fund, 9474 U.S. Hwy. 98 east, Navarre, FL 32566.

Erby Lee Massie
Lt. Col. Erby Lee Massie, born Jan. 15, 1920, passed away July 5, 1999.
He suffered a stroke on May 27, 1999, and had been in St. Joseph's Hospital in Lexington, Ky., until his death.
Lee was a veterinarian and served 28 years in the U.S. Air Force. He had overseas duty in Germany, Turkey and Brazil, and also had tours at Gunter Air Force Base, Ala., Walter Reed Medical Center, two tours at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., and was at Camp Pendelton, Calif.
He was a member of the Retired Officers' Club, Eglin Yacht Club, Camellia Society, Bonsai Society and the Humane Society. Dr. Massie's love for all animals and plants reminds one of the modern day St. Francis.
Lee is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nedra J. Massie of Shalimar, Fla.; daughters, Lynn McCully of Atlanta, and Sharon Madison and husband Keith of Wilmore, Ky.; son, Larry H. Massie of Huntington Beach, Calif.; grandchildren, Colleen McCully, Austin Madison, Tyler Madison, Josh Massie and Megan Massie.
A memorial service will be conducted at St. Simon's-on-the-Sound Episcopal Church at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 8, with Father James Spencer officiating. A reception will take place after the service. Burial will be in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla., on Friday, July 9.
Contributions to your favorite charity would be appreciated by his family.

Doris Jeanette Adkison
Doris Jeanette Adkison, age 62, of Crestview, Fla., passed away Tuesday, July 6, 1999, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Adkison was a native of Lowery, Ala., and had lived in Crestview since 1978, coming here from Ocala, Fla. She was employed by McLains Family Restaurant in Crestview.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Adkison.
A private funeral service will be held and burial will be in Lime Springs Cemetery in Samson, Ala.
Brackney Funeral Service, Crestview, is in charge of arrangements.
