Doris J. Johnson
Doris J. Johnson, age 68, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Johnson moved here in 1963 from New Jersey. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and active in the Legion of Mary at Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Doris was employed with First Federal Savings and Loan for 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Edwin Johnson Jr. Survivors include her son, Bill Johnson of Roswell, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Bob Humphrey of Springfield, Pa.; brother-in-law, Ray Johnson and wife Edna of Valparaiso, Fla.; sister-in-law, Elaine Martin of Shalimar; nieces, Kathy Jerome and husband Dennis of Las Vegas, Terri Byrne of New Jersey, Elain McMahan of Virginia, and Gail Harvey of Shalimar; nephews, Michael Johnson of Las Vegas, and Robert Humphrey of Springfield, Pa.; close friends, Joyce and Adam Corbett and Sharon Halstad; and many friends and business associates in the Fort Walton Beach area.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 30, at McLaughlin Mortuary with a rosary prayer service conducted at 6 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be conducted from St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday, July 31, at 11 a.m. with Father Kevin Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Gary Thomas Whatley
Gary Thomas Whatley, age 53, died Monday, July 26, 1999, at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss.
Mr. Whatley was born on June 6, 1946, in Orlando, Fla., and had been a resident of the Westville, Fla., community for the last five years, moving there from DeFuniak Springs, Fla. Mr. Whatley was retired from the U.S. Navy with 21 years of service.
Mr. Whatley was preceded in death by his mother, Pat Todd; grandmother, Dorothy Reynolds; and grandfathers, Jack Reynolds and Henry Whatley. He is survived by his father, Cecil Whatley and stepmother Willene Whatley of DeFuniak Springs; wife, Linda T. Whatley of DeFuniak Springs; sons, Jeremy R. Whatley and Eric H. Whatley, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; stepsons, Wendell McMillian and Anthony McMillian; daughter, Dena R. Barnhill of Connecticut; stepdaughter, Wendy McMillian of DeFuniak Springs; brother, Samuel Whatley of DeFuniak Springs; sisters, Linda Lewis and Sharon McLendon, both of DeFuniak Springs; stepsisters, Mildred Yancey of Ocoee, Tenn., and Bessie Keifer of DeFuniak Springs; brother-in-law, Billy McLendon; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:45 a.m. Friday, July 30, in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla.

Felix J. Lassiter
Felix J. Lassiter, age 51, passed away at home Tuesday evening, July 27, 1999, in Carrollton, Ga.
He was born and raised in Tarboro, N.C. He lived in the Fort Walton Beach, Fla., area for several years.
He was best known for his auto mechanical skills, his love of cars and his kind spirit.
Survivors include his fiancee, Theresa Barrow and her son Lee Dunnam; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Monty Landingham; sister, Jacqueline Jones; nephews, Mark Jones, Marty Draeger; niece, Nikki Lea; and great-niece, Sadie Lea.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Martin Hightower Funeral Home in Carrollton.
Laura Lee Cooper
Laura L. Cooper, age 74, of Destin, Fla., passed away in a local healthcare center on Wednesday, July 28, 1999.
She was born on Dec. 1, 1924, in Salina, Kan., and had been a resident of this area for the past 40 years, moving here from Birmingham, Ala. She was Episcopal by faith and a member of St. Andrew's-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church.
Laura worked at the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center for 20 years. Before her husband, Jack, passed away in 1995 she had been married for 50 years.
She is survived by her son, Richard, and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Cooper of Destin; and grandchild, Jamie L. Zingaretti and wife Cheryl Ann of Tampa, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 31, at St. Andrew's-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Destin with the Rev. Rob Grafe officiating.

Seffy A. Harvey
Seffy A. Harvey, age 88, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away peacefully on July 17, 1999, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center after suffering from a heart attack.
Mr. Harvey was born in Egeria, W.Va., on Sept. 11, 1912, to Clowney and Leona Harvey. He worked as an educator after college and then moved on to work in the West Virginia coalmines for approximately 10 years. In 1954, he went to work for Ford Motor Co. in Cleveland and upon retirement relocated to the local area. He and his wife, Beulah Harvey, had been residents of Fort Walton Beach since 1974.
He was a member of Elks Lodge 1795.
Mr. Harvey was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Beulah, and has missed her desperately since she passed away in January 1999. He was a wonderful and loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He was a good man and a gentle man, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew, loved and adored him. Most of all, we will miss his guidance and his mischief.
He was the beloved husband for 63 years of the late Beulah Mae Harvey of Fort Walton Beach. A wonderful and loving father to his two daughters, Jan Stover and her late husband Bob Stover of Fort Walton Beach, and Joan Bragg and her late husband Charles Bragg of Cleveland. Treasured and one-of-a-kind grandfather of Leah Stover-Scott and her husband Shannon Scott of Fort Walton Beach, Jaimie Bragg and his wife Betty of Medina, Ohio, Joanie Jukupcik and her husband Greg of Grand Rapids, Mich., Charles Bragg of Lakewood, Ohio, and the late Chris Bragg. He was the cherished great-grandfather of nine.
Seffy was one of 12 children: nine girls and three boys. Six sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. His surviving sisters are Dallie Meadows of Beckley, W.Va., Betha Conner and her husband Elmer of Tallahassee, Fla., and Gemma King and her husband Emmitt of Dublin, Calif.
A time of visitation will be conducted on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at McLaughlin Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31, with Elder Kenneth Cadle officiating. Burial will be in Beal Memorial Cemetery.

Frances Merle Lustic, age 80, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., died July 29, 1999.

Buddy Allen
Buddy Allen, age 65, of Milligan, Fla., passed away Wednesday night, July 28, 1999, in a local nursing home.
Mr. Allen was a native of Alabama and had lived in Okaloosa County, Fla., most of his life. He was an Assembly of God by faith and a retired painter.
Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his son, Bernard Allen. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Wyvone and Steve Creech of Milligan; brother, Lloyd Allen of Milligan; sister, Edna Stidham of Texas; grandchildren, Tawanna and Ellis, Stevon, Heather, Megan and Lana; and great-grandchildren, Emmanuel, Ellison and Tiffany.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31, in the chapel of Brackney Funeral Service with the Revs. James Paul and Myrna Carnley officiating. Burial will follow in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery.

Jarratt Powell
Jarratt Powell, age 39, died July 28, 1999.
A loving father, husband and son, he will be greatly missed by family and friends. Jarratt was an accomplished musician and percussionist, graduating cum laude from Berkelee College of Music in Boston. He freely shared his gift with his son and all he knew.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Powell; son, Justin Powell; parents, Steve and Joann Powell; sisters, Marianne (Joe) Alonzo, Stephanie (Doug) Engle; brother, Drew Benton Powell; and seven nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31, in Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel of Roses with the Rev. Joe Shelton officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. Saturday until time of services at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
