Charles Douglas Fisher
Charles Douglas Fisher, age 79, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at Twin Cities Hospital in Niceville, Fla.
For many years he waged a gallant battle against CIPD, a chronic and progressive neurological disease. Doug was born in Yonkers, N.Y., on March 5, 1920. He attended Pasadena Junior College in California and earned his degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois, and a master's degree in International Relations from the American University in Washington, D.C.
Doug enlisted as an aviation cadet early in World War II and went on to enjoy a long and varied career in the Air Force. He was commander of the Kaena Point satellite tracking station in Hawaii during the early U.S. satellite test flights. He was a member of the State Department's Inter-department Radio Advisory Committee from 1965-1967, and served on the international negotiating team in Geneva, Switzerland, that prepared the U.S. position on the 1967 International Telecommunications Union Maritime Mobile Conference. The Legion of Merit was among his many awards and decorations. His final Air Force assignment, from 1967-1970, was with the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Pentagon.
Following his Air Force career, from 1971-1984, Doug worked for the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, D.C., where he specialized in Maritime Communications.
Throughout his life, Doug was interested in the development and growth of the youth of America. He was an Eagle Scout. He participated in the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Washington, D.C., in 1937. He chaired AAU swimming associations in Hawaii, California and Virginia. He was a voting member of the annual Sullivan Award Committee.
In retirement, Doug devoted his time to the restoration of antiquarian books and contributed countless hours in this pursuit for historical societies, libraries and friends. Doug was an accomplished pianist and loved gardening and Civil War history. He and his wife, Eloise Tiller Fisher, moved to Niceville in 1996.
He is survived by his wife and three children.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the U.S. Olympic Committee is appreciated.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 6, at 3 p.m. at Eglin Air Force Base, Chapel No. 2. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.

Nicacio Mendoza
Nicacio Mendoza, age 66, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Monday morning, Aug. 2, 1999, at his residence with his family around him.
Mr. Mendoza was born on Oct. 11, 1932, in Pampa, Texas, to the late Ebidio C. and Matiana Diaz Mendoza. He retired after 36 years of service in both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Department of State as a Foreign Service officer.
Mr. Mendoza was a good husband, devoted father, unselfishly gave of himself to others and dedicated to the Most The Sacred Heart of Jesus, The Immaculate Heart of Mary, and the Holy Family.
He is survived by his wife, Mai Mendoza; three sons, Chris, Tony and Francis Mendoza; daughter, Judy Mendoza, all of Fort Walton Beach; brother, Antonio Mendoza of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister, Mary Soister of Albuquerque; sister, Jane Menarrez of Sparks, Nev.; sister, Sister Mary Immaculate Mendoza of Cincinnati, and sister, Kathy Lettofsky of Frederick, Md.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery, with military honors.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, with a rosary service at 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul Aid Society of St. Mary's Catholic Church, in memory of Mr. Nicacio Mendoza.
Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road N.E., Fort Walton Beach, is in charge of arrangements.

Nancy B. Cadenhead
Nancy Barlow Cadenhead, age 86, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at Gulf Coast Hospital, Panama City, Fla.
She was a lifelong resident of Crestview, Fla., and a member of Southside Baptist Church in Crestview.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernie L. Cadenhead. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Lillie Adams of Wewahitchka, Fla., Eugene and Barbara Adams, Billy and Barbara Adams, all of Panama City, Fla., Roland and Faye Adams of Lakeland, Fla., and Donald and Linda Adams of Baker, Fla.; stepson, Mike Cadenhead of Navarre, Fla.; stepdaughters, Dot Parker of Las Vegas, and Vernita Gage of Maine; beloved sister, Eliza Edge of Crestview; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at McLaughlin-Aultman Funeral Home Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral services will be conducted at Southside Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6, with Dr. Randy Huckabee officiating. Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Park Cemetery.

Patricia Ann Lambert
Patricia Ann Lambert, age 58, of Mary Esther, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Lambert moved to this area in 1972 from the Philippines. She was a gifted artist and a devoted wife and mother and a very loyal friend to many.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, W.B. Lambert. Survivors include her daughters, Trina Larsen of Crestview, Fla., Diana Lambert of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Deborah Preacher of Navarre, Fla.; son, Allen Lambert of Gainesville, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted at Central Baptist Church on Friday, Aug. 6, at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Kevin Davidson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society; Central Baptist Church of First Walton Beach; or Hospice of Northwest Florida.

David D. Johnson
David D. Johnson, 220 Quebec Ave., DeFuniak Springs, Fla., passed away Thursday, July 29, 1999, in DeFuniak Springs.
He was born in Milton, Fla., and lived in DeFuniak Springs for 43 years. He was a retired warrant officer and a funeral director.
He was the beloved husband of Doris Laird Johnson; a loving father to three children: sons, Marcus and David, and daughter, Lori (Russell) Hughes; and a treasured one-of-a-kind grandfather to three granddaughters, Candace Denise, Micah Paige and Kawaii Collette.
David was one of six children of the late Joe Johnson and J. Lucille Johnson of Milton. Brothers, Joe (Nellie) Johnson, Russell (Betsy) Johnson and Jerry Johnson; sisters, Mary Johnson, Vivian (Forest) Rhodes, Joanna (Charles) Larkins; sister-in-law, Gussie (Edward) Maynor; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 63 Ponderosa Trail in Argyle, Fla. Interment will be in Euchee Valley Cemetery, Ponce de Leon, Fla.
Visitation will be at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Milton (his home of birth) on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
A viewing for friends in DeFuniak Springs will take place from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Park Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. for final viewing.

Helen G. Caldwell
Helen G. Caldwell, age 88, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Caldwell was born on Oct. 18, 1910, in Port Lydon, N.Y., to Charles and Susan Gookins Bateman. She had lived in this area for the past 25 years, moving here from Utica, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her three sons, Frank, Charles and David Caldwell; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Caldwell requested that her remains be cremated.
Private family services will be held at a later date in New York state.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Bertie J. Anderson
Bertie J. Anderson, age 85, of Holley-Navarre, Fla., died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at his home in Holley.
Mr. Anderson was born in Holley on Aug. 3, 1914, to the late Victor and Jane Anderson. He served as a chief engineer with the Merchant Marines for over 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Birdie Anderson. They were married over 50 years. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, special nieces and nephews. Beth (like a daughter) and Tommy Parker, Richard (like a son) and Carolyn McLaughlin, Gary and Donna McLaughlin, Kirk McLaughlin, Jimmy McLaughlin, and special great-nieces and nephews, Chris Parker, Jennifer Parker Kendall, Jeff Parker (who lived with him), Brittany Parker, Allen McLaughlin, Kristin McLaughlin, Gary McLaughlin, Bradley McLaughlin and Kasi McLaughlin.
Pallbearers are Dale Anderson, Jody Anderson, Victor Anderson, Stormy Harvell, Buddy Harvell and George Mills. Honorary pallbearers are Martin Wells, Clayton Broxson, Ronnie Broxson, Bud Harvell, Cranford Nelson and W.A. Broxson.
Funeral services will be conducted at Billory Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, with the Rev. Adrian Wingate officiating. Burial will be in Harper Cemetery, Holley-Navarre.
Friends may call at Lewis Funeral Home, Navarre Chapel, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Lewis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John Gavin Grayson
John Gavin Grayson, age 87, of Navarre, Fla., passed away Thursday morning, Aug. 5, 1999, at his home.
He moved to Navarre in 1947 with his wife, Olbia, following World War II. John Grayson was a charter member of Mary Esther Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hattiesburg, Miss.; Scottish Rite in Panama City, Fla.; and Hadja Shrine in Pensacola, Fla. He served his country as a Marine Corps NCO and retired from civil service.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Olbia Nolen Grayson; daughter, Mary Ann Grayson Braik; son, Brian Grayson; four grandchildren; brother, Gene Grayson of Hattiesburg; sister, Lola Marbet of Citronelle, Ala.; sisters, Navalou Lowrey and Emma Lou (Sis) Watson of Hattiesburg; sister-in-law, Irene Grayson of Hattiesburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Northwest Florida, 490 Highway 85 north, Suite C, Niceville, Fla.; or to the Building Fund of First United Methodist Church at Mary Esther, Fla., in memory of John Gavin Grayson.
The family will receive friends at McLaughlin-Aultman Funeral Home Chapel from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Mike Roberts officiating.
Interment will be on Monday, Aug. 9, at 10:15 a.m. at Barrancas Cemetery in Pensacola.

Justin Orth
Justin Orth, age 7, of Navarre, Fla., passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, in a Gulf Breeze, Fla., hospital.
Justin was a delightful little boy who enjoyed sharing his bubble gum whenever he got any. He liked to make his baby brother laugh by being silly and he would put down his army men to play house with his little sister. Justin, with his curly hair and freckles, enriched our lives for the seven precious years God gave us with him.
Now Justin has gone to be with h is Heavenly Father who, undoubtedly, will enjoy Justin even more than we.
Justin is survived by his parents, Skip and Teresa Orth of Navarre; grandparents, Charles and Geneva Holifield of Shalimar, Fla.; sisters, Destiney Orth and Michaela Orth, both of Navarre; brothers, Buddy Orth and Charlie Orth, both of Navarre; and aunt, Sherry Levitus of Navarre.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Covenant Community Church on Lewis Turner Boulevard, across from the YMCA, in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, with the Rev. Jim Grabo officiating. Burial will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Emerald Coast Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Faye Salter Watts
Faye Salter Watts, age 68, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away in a local hospital Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999.
Faye was born in Monroe County, Fla., on May 22, 1931, and had been a resident of Fort Walton Beach since 1964. She graduated from Lyeffion High School in Conecuh County, Ala., in May 1949, and immediately enrolled in St. Margaret School of Nursing in Montgomery, Ala.
She worked at Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M., in 1966 and 1967 and was on the team of doctors and nurses who worked with the 15 original astronauts, which included John Glenn and Alan Shepherd.
Mrs. Watts was a Red Cross volunteer at Eglin Air Force Base for over 13 years and the recipient of the Clara Barton Award, as well as the Exceptional Volunteer Award in 1978 and 1979. In 1979, she joined the American Red Cross Disaster Services and earned the Disaster Services Award for 1992-93 and 1993-94.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mary Salter; sister, Agnes Salter Ross; and brother, Roy Salter Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Melvin Watts Jr. of Fort Walton Beach; sons, Ronald of Fort Walton Beach, and Roger and daughter-in-law Theresa of Las Vegas; sisters, Marie Salter Brown of Gulf Shores, Ala., Ophelia Salter Flannigan of Mobile, Ruth Salter Kendrick of Pensacola, Fla., Jane Salter Byrd of Ocean Springs, Miss., Josephine Salter Forgey of Birchwood, Tenn., Olivia Salter Walls of Ponte Verde Beach, Fla.; brother, Donald Salter of Mobile; granddaughters, Jessica Veluz Watts and Kristine Elisabeth Watts of Huntsville, Ala.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cope Funeral Home in Evergreen, Ala.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at Cope Funeral Home with the Rev. Calvin Lasley of Lyeffion Baptist Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Red Cross Disaster Services in her name.
