Horace Bishop
Horace Bishop, age 75, of Crestview, Fla., passed away Dec. 13, 1999, in a local hospital.
He was born in Phenix City, Ala., to Albert Horne and Sallie Lou Bishop. He was a watchmaker and served in the U.S. Navy until 1945. He lived in the Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Crestview areas since 1960.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Bishop; sons, Timothy and wife Michele Bishop, Stephen Bishop and Gregory Bishop; daughter, Karen Riley; stepchildren, Leslie Johnson, Linda Matthew, Brenda Kratz, Joe Priko and Janina Cushman; grandchildren, Stephen and Shane Bishop, Leeland Buffenbarger and Danna Riley; stepgrandchildren, Stephen Daniels, Leighanne Reeves, Mason Reeves, Jennifer Stafford, Lauren Matthew, Geoffrey Matthew, Mark McCraw, Crystal Priko, Kelly Cushman and Robert Cushman; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, with Pastor James Sellers and Sidney Matthew officiating. Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Park Cemetery in Crestview.
McLaughlin-Aultman Funeral Home, Crestview, is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Benjamin McGowan
Robert Benjamin McGowan, age 40, of Huntsville, Ala., died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, in a Huntsville Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Al Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UAB Children's Hospital.
Mr. McGowan was Baptist by faith and played piano for several gospel groups in the south.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa McGowan of Florida; parents, Dorothy and Rex Adams of Lacey Springs; son, Nicholas McGowan of Florida; sister, Sheila Jadwin-Dolan-Grant; brothers, Greg Ferris of Huntsville, Bill Ferris of Huntsville and Michael Ferris of Texas; six nieces; and two nephews.
Valhalla Funeral Home, Huntsville, is in charge of arrangements.

Dora Belle Jowers
Dora Belle Jowers, age 88, of Pensacola, Fla., died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola. Mrs. Jowers was born in Marengo County, Ala., on June 27, 1911, to William Vernon and Anna P. Sparks Agee and had resided in Pensacola for the past four years. Prior to living in Pensacola, Mrs. Jowers had lived for thirty years in Laurel Hill, Fla. She was retired from in-home child care and had been self-employed for thirty years. She was a member of the Laurel Hill First Baptist Church and was a loving mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Mrs. Jowers was preceded in death by her husband, James Leroy Jowers, in 1974, and by a daughter, Myra S. Johnson, in 1988.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James and Pat Jowers, of Pensacola; daughters and son-in-law, Dora and Joe Wynn, of Laurel Hill and Rose Jowers of Blountville, Tenn; sister, Sara Horne, of Coca Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A time of visitation will be conducted from the Whitehurst Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, from 6 until 8 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted from the chapel of Whitehurst Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Donnie Cadenhead officiating. Interment will be in the Alamarante Cemetery in Laurel Hill.
Floral tributes will be accepted at the funeral home.
Arrangements and services are under the direction of Whitehurst Funeral Home, 436 West James Lee Boulevard, Crestview.

James Elbert Butler
Mr. James Elbert Butler, age 66, of Niceville, Fla., went home to be with the Lord, Monday, Dec. 13, 1999. Mr. Butler was a native of South Carolina but lived in the Fort Walton Beach, Fla., area for the past 37 years. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict, worked with Civil Service in the Armament Lab for more than 20 years and was currently employed with CMS Defense Systems in Shalimar.
Mr. Butler is survived by his mother, Myrtle Butler, of Great Falls, S.C.; his wife, Patricia Butler of Niceville; three sons, David Butler and wife Kim of Aiken, S.C., Matt Butler and wife Sherri of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Nate Butler and wife Kathy of Orlando, Fla.; sister, Shirley Williams of Buena Vista, Va.; and three granddaughters, Elizabeth and Hannah of Aiken and Kristen of Fort Walton Beach.
Funeral services for Mr. Butler will be 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, in the First Baptist Church of Fort Walton Beach with Dr. Howard L. Gates and Dr. Wesley Yates officiating. Interment will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home, Thursday evening, Dec. 16, 1999, from 5 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Fort Walton Beach Building Fund or to the American Heart Association in memory of Mr. James E. Butler

Terry Lynn Dean
Terry Lynn Dean, age 46, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 5, 1953, in El Paso, Texas. She had been a resident of the local area on and off for most of her life. She was a graduate of Choctawhatchee High School. She honorably served her country in the U.S. Army and later was retired. She was a member of the local AMVETS and also the Disabled American Veterans organization. She was a proud inspirational member of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Survivors include her son, John Daniel Griffin of Albuquerque, N.M.; three brothers, Michael Dean of Navarre, Fla., Ronald Dean and Richard Dean both of Fort Walton Beach; and one grandchild.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Sunday evening, Dec. 19, 1999, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Little Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, at 10 a.m. at Little Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. James Spencer officiating. Friends may also call one hour prior to service. Burial will follow the services at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS, Pensacola, Fla., at 1:15 p.m.

William P. Hicks
William P. Hicks, age 78, of Niceville, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at a local hospital.
Mr. Hicks was born in Valparaiso, Fla., on Feb. 5, 1921, to Walter B. and Eliza M. Hicks. He was a member of the Rosemont Baptist Church of Niceville and had lived in this area all of his life.
He is survived by his son William P. Hicks II of Sidell, La., and three grandchildren, Morgan, Stephen and William Hicks.
A visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at McLaughlin Twin City Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at Rosemont Baptist Church of Niceville at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Rocky Cemetery in Niceville.
McLaughlin Twin City Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

Luna B. Moore
Luna B. Moore, 85, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999 at her residence. She was born on August 1, 1914, in Glen Allen, Ala. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fort Walton Beach where she was instrumental in organizing Sharing & Caring in Fort Walton Beach and was a past president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Optimists Club in Memphis, Tenn.
Survivors include her husband, Robert W. Moore, of Fort Walton Beach; son, Robert Nichols Moore, and daughter-in-law, Terry Moore, of Memphis, Tenn.; sisters, Muriel Wesley of Winfield, Ala., and Marlene Baton of Fort Walton Beach; grandchildren, Angelia Moore and Jonathan Moore of Memphis, Tenn.; and a niece, Betsey Chapman of Sarasota, Fla.
A visitation will be held at First Presbyterian Church from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday and funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, with the Rev. John Walchenback officiating. Burial will be in Beal Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Sharing & Caring.
McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Avenue, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.

Rezella Carson
On December 11, 1999, in the comfort of her home, Rezella Carson departed this life.
Rezella leaves to cherish her memories: four daughters of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Jewel Leach, Josie Hartley, and Cheryl Simmons. Vivian Smith of Oxon Hill, Md.
She also leaves three sisters, one brother, one sister-in-law, eight grandsons, five granddaughters, twenty great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Ms. Carson's wake will be held on Friday, December 17 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Gainer Funeral Home, 609 Oak Street, Fort Walton Beach. Services will be held on Saturday, December 18, at 1 p.m. at the Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church, 102 Fourth Street, Fort Walton Beach.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Vigo, home health services and Hospice of Fort Walton Beach for the wonderful love and care that was provided their mother during her illness.

Ruth Laws Johnson
Ruth Laws Johnson, age 87, of Crestview, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999. She was born in Moravian Falls, N.C., on Sept. 4, 1912, and moved to Crestview in 1946. Mrs. Johnson was a teacher in Crestview for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crestview, past president of the United Methodist Women and a member of the Joy Sunday school class.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. Johnson, in 1982.
Survivors include her brother and his wife, Glenn and Louise Laws of Claremont, N.C.; sister-in-law, Pearl Laws of Mount Airy, N.C.; her caregivers, Bob and Letty Sain and their children Sam and Ricky; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, from the Live Oak Park Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. John Wesley Spivey officiating.
Flowers are appreciated or contributions may be made to Bay Medical Hospice, 155 Crystal Beach Drive, Suite 135, Destin, Fla. 32541.
