Averie Elizabeth Brumbaugh, age 94, died Sunday at Long Meadow Care Center in Ravenna. Born April 25, 1906 in Nelson Township, she was the daughter of the late L. J. and Anna (Cline) Fenstermaker, and had lived in Ravenna before moving to Kent 45 years ago. Mrs. Brumbaugh was a member of the Kent Church of the Brethren. She retired from Happy Day School, where she had been employed as a teacher and a bus driver for 20 years. She had been a Matron of the Boys Receiving Home in Portage County from 1930 to 1937, was Matron of the Girls Receiving Home in Portage County, and had been a foster parent of many small children for several years. She is survived by her husband, The Reverend Elmer I. Brumbaugh, with whom she celebrated their 76th Wedding Anniversary on August 1, 2000; her daughters, Eloise (Fred) Hart of Sarasota, FL, Esther (Howard) Domer of Louisville, OH, June (John) Leadam of Thousand Oaks, CA; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brother, Lewis J. Fenstermaker of Bloomingdale, OH; sister, Thelma Younker of Arcadia, FL, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Erma Brumbaugh; brother, Charles Fenstermaker; and granddaughter, Beverly Domer. Relatives and friends will be received from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, 1005 East Main Street, Kent, OH. Relda M. Clark, age 83, formerly of 10th St. SW, Canton, died Monday evening at McKinley Life Care Center. She was retired from Aultman Hospital after 25 years of service. Herbert Dale Hannen, age 75, of Canton, Ohio, passed away Monday afternoon in the Oakhill Manor Care Center following an extended illness. Born in Alliance, Ohio, on May 29, 1925, he had lived the greater portion of his life in the Canton area. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Lavina Hannen. Charles J. German, age 71, of Canton, died Monday afternoon, October 9, 2000, in Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in
Canton on October 11, 1928 and was graduated from Lincoln High School in 1946 and attended Kent State University. He was president of Ralph C. Williams Inc., an industrial supply company, retiring in 1995, and was a member of Church of the Covenant United Presbyterian. He was a 30 year member of Trinity Lodge #710 F.&A.M., Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, 32nd degree, Valley of Canton and Shady Hollow Country Club where he was an avid golfer and master cribbage player. Mr. German was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Ruth German and grandson, Lew German. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, to whom he was married for 50 years; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Bernice German of Boulder, CO; son, George German of Canton; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Albert Vinci of North Canton; four grandchildren, Alesandra Vinci, Katherine German, Russell and Randall Harris; brothers, Robert German of Dover, OH, Richard German of Massillon and sister, Beatrice McFarren of North Canton. Crede P. Kendall Sr., age 78, of Canton, died Monday morning in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. Born January 21, 1922 in Hiawassee, GA. to the late James and Mae Kendall. He was a WWII Navy Veteran, attended Canton Baptist Temple and was retired from the Timken Co. after 32 years of service. He is preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Kendall; one brother, Homer Kendall; and one sister, Ruth Kendall. Survivors include his wife, Matilda of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Crede P. Jr. and Ann Kendall of Nashville, TN; one daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Sam Stewart of Columbus, OH. There are two grandchildren, Adam and Samantha Stewart; two great grandchildren; Brett and Sadie Collins; and one brother James Kendall of Brookville, FL. Gerald L. Mudge, age 72, formerly of Canton, OH, passed away Monday in the Shenandoah County Memorial Hospital in Woodstock, VA, following an extended illness. Born in Canton on August 20, 1928, he was a 1946 graduate of McKinley High School and had attended Malone College. He was retired from the accounting department at First Federal Savings and Loan Co., now Charter One Bank, where he had worked for 33 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Gerald E. and Ethel (Willis) Mudge, and a brother, Eugene W. Mudge, Sr. Survivors include his wife, Deborah Mudge of Basye, VA; two sons, Glenn and LaVerne Mudge, both of Ohio; four daughters, Betsy LeBeau, Elaine Warner and Laura Wheeler, all of Ohio, and Rhonda Mudge of Basye, VA. Carl J. Stipe, age 71, of Louisville, died Monday October 9, 2000 in the home after an extended illness. Born on July 18, 1929 in Inman, VA to the late Herbert and Flora Stipe. He retired from Foster Forbes in Marion, IN where he was commander of the American Legion Post # 10. Survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Kaye Stipe of the home; four daughters; one son; two special sons, Terry Stipe of Canton, who was a great help and comfort through his fathers illness, Carl J. Stipe Jr. of Texas; one stepdaughter, Sharon Perry; two beloved granddaughters, Shannon and Stephanie Perry; granddaughters, Jennifer Lynn and LeAnna Rose Stipe; four brothers; five sisters. Victor Z. Piovanelli, age 87, of Waynesburg, passed away Monday evening in Aultman Hospital after an extended illness. He was born in Costa Volpino, Province of Lombardy, Italy, a son of the late Carlo and Matilda Canobbio Piovanelli, and immigrated to the United States in 1913 with his parents to Chambersville, PA. He returned to Italy for schooling from 1921-1933 when he came to Waynesburg, where he resided the rest of his life. He retired in 1978 from Portec Inc., after 15 years service, where he was a machinist. He was previously a foreman at Whitacre-Greer Fireproofing Co., where he had worked for about 30 years. He was a member of Caldwell Lodge #330 F&AM in Bolivar, where he was honored as Mason of the Year in 1997; the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton; the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Canton Aerie #141; and was a very active member of the Northern Italian Club in Canton. Preceded in death by three sisters, Dena Stropki, Anita Risaleti and Rose Allender, three infant brothers. Survived by his wife of over 40 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Proietti; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary and Pete Vinciquerra of Waynesburg, Mrs. Lillian Fernandez of Canton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Mary Piovanelli of Waynesburg, and Jack and Caryl Piovanelli of Portland, OR; two brothers-in-law, Bruno Risaleti of Waynesburg and Steve Stropki of Canton; five nephews and four nieces; and also many friends, especially Bob and Betty Broad, Charlie and Geneva Devine, and Bob and Joyce Huffman. She was a member of Jackson Friends Church. She received her bachelors degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Nursing and her Master Degree from Ohio State University. She was a former employee of Akron General Medical Center and was retired from Mercy Medical Center in Canton. After her retirement she was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Preceded in death three sisters, Lucy Chaten, Rose Chaten Lesnansky and Atoinete Chaten Garcher; and three brothers, Peter Citano, Frank Chaten and Dominic Chaten. Survivors include two sisters and brothers-in-law, Theresa and Charles Chaten Satriano of Clearwater, FL, and Mary and Robert Chaten Puckett of Shaker Heights, OH; three daughters and sons-in-law, Charisse Pflueger of Akron, Linda and Chuck Gougler of Massillon and Jill and Mike Jarvis of Louisburg, KS; and one step-son, Steve Hathaway of Williamsburg, VA; numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Cambridge, OH, on August 3, 1919, he had formerly resided in Alliance, OH, and Jacksonville, FL. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, and was an honoree of the Bronze and Silver Stars and the Purple Heart. He was a retired employee of Chrysler Corp., retiring in 1979. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Elsie Peters; two brothers, Rolley and William Peters; a sister, Coral Hanlin and his wife, Betty Reeves Peters. Allan W. Lindahl, age 75, of North Canton, died unexpectedly on Monday, Oct. 9, 2000. He was a Marine Corps veteran, who served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a member of the 6th Marine Division Assoc., 22nd Regiment Marine and the North Canton Elks. A graduate of MIT Sloane School of Executive Management and an honorary member of Delta Sigma Pi, Mr. Lindahl had been an officer with Ohio Power and was an avid golfer and jazz trombonist. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara Ann Lindahl of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, Norman A. and Laura W. Lindahl of Akron and Carl A. Lindahl of the home; sister, Thelma E. Clair Burns, age 81, of Canton, died Tuesday afternoon in Aultman Hospital. Born February 21, 1919, in Pennsylvania, he spent much of his time at the Sarah Center. He is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine and one daughter, Elaine Dreher. Survivors include two sons, Milton “Buster” Updyke and Robert Burns; and four daughters, Roseanne Nealy, Barbara LaBuda, Judy Shipley and Shirley Utt; 39 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren. Eleanor Jean Cropper, age 71, of Canton, died Tuesday morning, October 10, 2000, in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Cadiz, OH and had resided in Canton most of her life. She was graduated from McKinley High School. Formerly employed as a secretary for the Timken Company and served as a teacher’s aid at Clarendon School for many years. Jean was a member of Dueber United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Lyons in 1961, Gladys Lyons Lennox in 1995 and brother, Alfred Lyons. Jean is survived by her husband, Robert L. Cropper, with whom she enjoyed 48 years of marriage; her daughter and son-in-law, Bobbi Jean and Dana Ries of Massillon; brothers, John Lyons of North Lawrence, OH, Walter Lyons of Portland, TN, Kenneth Lyons of Canton; sisters, Kathryn Hite and Alice Gastin, both of North Canton, Anita Morrison of Canton; four grandchildren, James and Tammy Oser, K.C. and Christopher Ries; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Chester Harris and Pastor Paul Brady officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours will be Saturday 10 a.m. to the time of services. Marie C. Staver, age 88, formerly of North Lawrence died Wednesday, October 11, 2000 at Brenn-Field Nursing Center, Orrville. Marie was born April 17, 1912 in Danville, OH, the oldest child of the late Charles and Mae (Mickley) Colopy. Preceded in death by husband, LaVerne Staver in 1985; brothers, Charles & Lewis Colopy; sisters, Lucille Schalmo, Ruth Crable and Mary Gravereau. Survived by children, Janelle (Tom) Healey of Canal Fulton, Joyce (Don) Ries of Massillon, Mary Lou (Dan) Pratt of Dalton, Betty “Annie” (Bill) Fricke and Tim (Carolyn) Staver, all of Massillon; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Theresa Burger of Canal Fulton, Betty Lutz of Minerva and Joan Hefferman of Akron; two brothers, James Colopy of Massillon and John Colopy of Chillicothe; nieces and nephews. Marie Sankey was born on January 20, 1910 in Tallapoosa, Ga,., to the late William Evans and Julia Dunson. She departed this life after an extended illness on October 7, 2000 at the Meadow Winds Nursing Home in Massillon, Ohio. Marie came to Massillon in 1931 and was an area resident for 69 years. Besides her parents she was deceased by brothers, James, Willie, Grady and Louis Evans; one sister, Sarah Windom; and son, Jesse Evans, Dr. She was widowed by the late Horace Ward, Sr. and then the late Miles B. Sankey who passed away in 1991. She was a former member of the Shiloh Baptist Church under the pastorale of the late Reverend Comer Burroughs. She was a loving mother and grandmother not only to her family but also to many others who knew her as “Tot” or Grandma Tot.” Memories will be cherished by surviving sons, Benjamin Hedgespeth of Canton, OH., and Horace (Lula Mae) Ward, Jr. of Massillon, OH; daughters, Doris Burke and Julia Hedgespeth, bother of Massillon; 31 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Willa Evans of Marietta, GA; three nieces; and one nephew and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held TODAY October 12, 2000, at 7 p.m. at Rhoden Memorial Home, with Bishop Evans officiating. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until time of service. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday October 13, 2000.

Ruth E. Drukenbrod, of Canton passed away suddenly in the home Tuesday, October 10, 2000. Born in Canton, to Howard and Mamie Peter, she attended St. Joseph School and
Mount Marie Academy. She had worked at the Timken Company, and later managed the millinery department of Stark Dry Goods. A lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Robert in 1933; and a sister, Dorothy Peter. She is survived by her husband, Donald H. Drukenbrod, with whom she celebrated 69 years of marriage on July 7th, and by several cousins and special friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Timothy Huffman as celebrant. Burial will follow in Westlawn Cemetery. Constance S. “Connie” Kraus, age 74, of Canton, OH, passed away Tuesday afternoon in Country Lawn Nursing Home following an extended illness. Born in Warren, OH on Aug. 7, 1926 to her parents, the late Antonio and Josephine Zandarski, she resided in the Canton area for over 30 years. Preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jerry and Stanley Zandarski. Survived by her husband, Edward Kraus of Canton; one daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Steve Swan of Navarre; son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Lynne Zandarski of Bristolville, OH; grandchildren, Melissa, Scott, Alexander and Jeffrey; a sister, Frances Moore of North Ridgeville, OH; three brothers, Edward, Raymond and Casper Zandarski, all of Warren, OH. Roger D. Kiehl, age 77, of Canton, passed away Wednesday morning October 11, 2000 in Aultman Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Hamilton, OH, he graduated in 1942 from McKinley High School. He retired from the businesses of The Greenhouse of Mineral City and Albert Kehl Florist and Greenhouses of Canton, and Jones Medical Services. He attended Case Western Reserve and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Roger was also an avid gardener and golfer. Preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mary Alice (Rutledge) Kiehl. Survived by his loving wife, Donna, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on August 25 and loving sister and brother-in-law, Harriet (formerly Miller) and Jesse Jones of East Rochester. Also survived by children and grandchildren who cherish his memory: son, Daniel Kiehl of Brentwood, NH; daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary and Jim McLaughlin of East Rochester; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Paul Hillman of Vermilion; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Zoilo Pedrozo of Canton; and son and daughter-in-law, Chris Kiehl and Ann Corey of Akron; and six grandchildren, Shaun and Gavin McLaughlin, Carey and Emma Hillman, and Lidia and Francisco Pedrozo.
