Betty K. Edick, age 76, of Canton, passed away Thursday afternoon, Oct. 12, 2000, in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Cambridge, OH, Nov. 13, 1923, to her parents, the late William and Luella (Parry) Foraker, she lived most of her life in the Canton area. Mrs. Edick was a member of Church of the Master in Canton. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Edick, Feb. 25, 1984 and her daughter-in-law, Joanne Edick in 1996. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Scott Dunfee of North Canton, OH; her son, James V. Edick of Canton, OH; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Esther Foraker of Canton, OH; her grandchildren and their spouses, Melinda and Jeff Lackey, Scott and Kris Dunfee, Jennifer and Scott Nofer, Jill Edick and Nancy Dunfee; three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Dr. Rev. Marvin E. Hall officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Constance S. Kraus
Constance S. Connie Kraus, age 74, of Canton, OH, passed away Tuesday afternoon in Country Lawn Nursing Home following an extended illness. Born in Warren, OH on Aug. 7, 1926 to her parents, the late Antonio and Josephine Zandarski, she resided in the Canton area for over 30 years. Preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jerry and Stanley Zandarski. Survived by her husband, Edward Kraus of Canton; one daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Steve Swan of Navarre; son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Lynne Zendarski of Bristolville, OH; grandchildren, Melissa, Scott, Alexander and Jeffrey; a sister, Frances Moore of North Ridgeville, OH; three brothers, Edward, Raymond and Casper Zandarski, all of Warren, OH. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours Friday (tonight) 7-9 p.m. and Saturday 10-11 a.m. in the funeral home. Glenn E. DePuy
Glenn E. DePuy, age 81, of 121 Forest Hill Dr., died Tues. in St. Elizabeth Health Center. Mr. DePuy was born July 16, 1919, in Dart, OH, a son of John and Leora B. Bowersock DePuy, and came to the area in 1964 from Canton. He was a shipper's helper for Republic Steel for 26 years before retiring in 1981. He was a member and elder of the church and was a member of VFW 4237. He was a World War II Army veteran. Besides his wife, the former Loretta F. Theobald, whom he married Oct. 2, 1943, he leaves two sons, Glenn D. of Huntington Station, NY and Frank of Austintown; and three grandchildren. Preceded in death by four sisters, Laura Heslop, Lillie Hune, Alice Oliver and Carrie Whitstone; and two brothers, Edward and Delbert DePuy. Services were held at on Friday in Austintown Community Church.

Marie Sankey was born on January 20, 1910 in Tallapoosa, Ga,., to the late William Evans and Julia Dunson. She departed this life after an extended illness on October 7, 2000 at the Meadow Winds Nursing Home in Massillon, Ohio. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday October 13, 2000.

Martha J. Connor
Martha J. Connor, age 91, of Canton, OH, passed away Thursday afternoon in the Canton Christian Home following a brief illness. Born in July 9, 1909, in Martinsburg, PA, she moved to Canton in 1949 from State College, PA. She was preceded in death by three sisters, five brothers, and her husband, Robert E. Connor who passed away November 12, 1982. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Canton, the Christian Co-Workers Sunday School Class, Christiana North End Missionary, Keenagers, AARP, Art Appreciation Guild, Royal Neighbors of America, Canton Sorosis and was a former member of the church choir and had been a Girl Scout leader. Survivors include her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Geraldine Connor of Canton, Richard and Clara Tinlin of San Juan Capistrano, CA, Delbert and Norma Connor of Big Prairie, OH, Erma Connor of Cedar City, UT, Paul Rodocker of Massillon, Fern Hoover of Martinsburg, PA, and Elda Hoover of Altoona, PA; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Ron Iwanusa officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home one hour before the services on Saturday 12-1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Canton Christian Home.

Martha L. Snode, age 80, of 5087 Arbor Rd., Mechanicstown, died Wed. Oct. 11, 2000 in Mercy Medical Center following a short illness. She was born Dec. 6, 1919 in Mechanicstown to John Blanche (Andrews) Reid. She was a housewife and member of the Herrington Bethel United Methodist Church, a member of the U.M.W. and the Carroll County Historical Society. She graduated from Carrollton High School and was a member of the National and Eastern Bison Assoc. She is preceded in death by her husband, R. Edgar Snode, who died March 20, 1997. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Ann) Rinehart of Jonesboro, GA and Mrs. Matthew (Lucy) Akel of Seoul, South Korea; two sons and daughters-in-law, Max Dedre Snode of Carrollton and Douglas Deborah Snode of Carrollton; three sisters, Sara Manfull of Augusta, Mrs. Bob (Bernice) McCleaster of Mechanicstown, Mrs. John (Elnora) Ocel of Mechanicstown; her care giver, Lori Shearer; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Herrington Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Clark officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mary Eileen Byrne
Mary Eileen Byrne, of Upper Arlington, died Thursday, October 12, 2000 at Wesley Glen Health Care Center. She was the widow of James Byrne who died in 1987. She was retired Editorial Production Coordinator at Xerox Education Publications following many years of service. Survived by her sister, Harriet Blubaugh of Baltimore, MD; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by sisters, Rose Kelleher, October 2000 and Frances Marshall. She was a member of St. Agatha Church and St. Agatha Women's Club. She was a member of M.S. Society Key 3 and past member of Mid-Ohio M.S. Society Board of Trustees. Also, a member of American Association of University Women and the Xerox 25 Year Club. She graduated from Mount Marie Academy in Canton, OH, and Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, where she was affiliated with Sigma Lambda Phi Sorority. Ruth E. (Boyle) Griffith, age 73, of Canton, died unexpectedly Wednesday evening at Aultman Hospital. Daughter of the late Raymond and Saraphine (Audi) Miller. She was a Canton area resident for the past 50 years. She retired as a cook, from J.C. Penney in 1979, after 16 years of service. Member of the Canton Baptist Temple, where she was active in the Jolly Sixties and the Ambassador Sunday School class. She was a member of the Tuesday morning ladies bowling league at the East Sparta Recreation Center. She is also preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Boyle in 1990; two brothers, Bob and Tony Miller; one sister, Joyce McNamara. She is survived by her husband, Eugene Jeep Griffith, to whom she was married eight years October 2, 2000; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannette and Bruce Gilbert, Kathleen Brooks, Sharon and Todd Westfall, all of East Canton; five sons and daughters-in-law, Harry and Mary Boyle, George and Barbara Boyle, Jerry Lee and Susan Boyle, Larry and Pat Boyle, Raymond and Jodi Boyle, all of East Canton; three stepchildren and spouses, Terry and Debbie Griffith of Canton, Kae Griffith of Canton, Chyrel and Ernie Hough of Alburn, GA; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; two brothers, David Miller of Minerva, Johnny Miller of Dickson, TN; two sisters, June Wagner of Canton, Bernadine Hoffman of Dellroy. Stefan Oana, age 84, of 1558 Logan Ave. NW, Canton, died Thursday, October 12, 2000, in Aultman Hospital. He was born on January 28, 1916 in Salem, OH, to his parents, Miron and Maria Oana. He was employed by Babcock Wilcox, Canton, in the engineering dept. for 28 years. Member of St. George Romanian Orthodox Church. He was a member of the Masonic Trinity Lodge #710, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, and A.A.R.P. He was a 1937 graduate of Salem High School. Survived by wife, Helen (Boncu) Oana, whom he married on June 25, 1944; three sons, Ronald Oana, Michael Oana, both of Canton and Alan Oana of Hiawaussee, GA; two grandchildren; twp great-great-grandchildren; and a son, Stefan E. Oana. Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at 11 a.m. in Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Fr. George Treff and Fr. Constantin Tofan officiating. Burial in Hope Cemetery in Salem. William Tuck
William Porter Tuck, age 75, of Hartville, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 12, 2000 in Mercy Medical Center. He was born in Red Boiling Springs, TN on Oct. 4, 1925 to the late Aulcie Franklin and Minnie and Estelle (Parker) Tuck. Porter had been a machinist for Hartville Tool Dye, had worked for Geauga Plastics in Canton and retired from Monarch in Hartville. He was a great outdoorsman and enjoyed golfing and fishing. He had wintered in Florida since 1990. Preceded in death by four infant brothers and sisters and a brother, Hobart. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Delores (Bowers); children, Judy and Joe Ledsome of Uniontown, Karen and Kerry Burroughs of Lake Grove, NY, Debi and Kent Hoggatt of Lapeer, MI, Kenneth and Janet Tuck of Cambridge and Janet and Donald Staats of Akron; siblings, Leon and Shirley Tuck of Tennessee, Hollis and Betty Tuck of Tennessee, Naomi Birdwell of Dayton, Tommy and Jan Tuck of Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Carl Brumbaugh, age 85, of Canton, passed away Friday in the Laurels of Massillon following a brief illness. Born February 27, 1915 in Middlebranch to the late Fredrick and Blonna Brumbaugh. He graduated in 1933 from Greensburg High School. Mr. Brumbaugh was a member of St. Jacob's Lutheran Church, Jackson Township Lion's Club, Springwood Lake Camp and Jackson Chapter of A.A.R.P. He was a former employee of Quality Supply and was retired from George E. Ayers Insurance of Tallmadge. He was preceded in death by infant twin sons; two sisters, Vera Spitler, Helen Brumbaugh; and two brothers, Paul and Daul Brumbaugh. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn Yost Brumbaugh; children, Judith (Thomas) Malinowski of Massillon, Jacquelyn (Roger) Van Houten of Monroe, MI, Joanne (Roy) Hughey of Geneva, FL, Dennis (Pamela) Brumbaugh of Massillon; eleven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Harvey of Green, Donna (George) Ayers of Portage Lakes; brother, Earl (Jean) of Green. Elmer William Pool, age 75, of Canton, OH, passed away Thursday afternoon, Oct. 12, 2000 in Oakhill Nursing Home following an extended illness. Born in Canton, OH, Jan. 31, 1925 to his parents the late James R. and Clara (Myers) Pool, he was a former employee of Crystal Park Lumber Co., and was former owner of AAA Cleaning Co. Mr. Pool was a member of Hartville Church of the Brethren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Pool. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Kenneth DeHoff of Navarre, OH, Annette and G. Edward Gann of Louisville, OH; three grandchildren, Michelle DeHoff of Navarre, OH, G. Edward Gann, Jr. of Louisville, OH, April Eller of Canton, OH; a god-daughter, Trudy Lee Dobransky of Canton and a life long friend, Samuel Flott of Canton. Goldie Greenwald, age 92, of Canton, passed away Thursday night, October 12, 2000 in Manor Care Nursing Home. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 20,1907 to the late Morris Pearl Forstein. Goldie had assisted her late husband, Bernard, in their business Greenwald Furs. She was a member of Shaaray Torah Synagogue, Hadassah, and of the Canton Jewish Community Center. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carole Sue Michael Nusinov of Orlando, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Stanley Charlotte Greenwald of North Canton; grandchildren, Robyn Dr. David Cutler of Akron, Laura
Steven Einstein of New Canaan, CT, and Jordan Terri Greenwald of North Canton; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Tannenbaum and Janet Russell both of Cleveland, and Pearl Shifman of Portland, OR; and brother, Nathan Forstein of Ashtabula. She was preceded in death by 3 sisters. Funeral Services will be held Monday 11:30 a.m. in Shaaray Torah Synagogue with Rabbi John Spitzer and Cantor Bruce Braun officiating. Grace Schoman
Grace Schoman, age 95, of Canton, died Thursday afternoon in Manor Care Retirement Center following an extended illness. Born in Sharon, CT to the late Margaret and John Meier, she was educated in Connecticut and spent her adult life in Canton. A former employee of the Hoover Co, she was a past member of Art Garden Club, Massillon Woman's Club, and had been a 40 year volunteer with the American Red Cross. A member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Schoman; brother, Herman Meier; four sisters, Mrs. E. Welsh, Mrs. G. Brannon, Mrs. F. Corr, and Mrs. L. Moore, also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Jones of Lake Cable, Canton, OH. Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Jones of Lake Cable, Canton, OH, Barbara Achauer and her husband, Don of N. Canton; four grandchildren, Jennifer Jones of North Canton, Rob Jones and family of Columbia, SC, Jeffrey Achauer and family of Dublin, OH, David Achauer and family of Kirtland, OH; seven great-grandchildren, Lauren, Hillary, Ashley, Sarah, Jason, Samantha, and Wesley; several nieces and nephews. According to her wishes a private service will be Monday in the Spiker-Foster SHRIVER Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. John M. Mann officiating. Interment will be in the family plot in West Lawn Cemetery. Irene Evans
Irene Evans, age 80, of Canton, passed away Friday morning, October 13, 2000, in the residence following a one month illness. Born in Nanticoke, PA, October 23, 1919, to her parents the late John and Elizabeth Lianna, she has been a resident of the Canton area since 1951. Mrs. Evans was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and Altar Rosary Society. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Evans Sr., December 29, 1985, two sisters and one brother. Survivors include her daughter, Margaret Clere of Canton; three sons, Robert Evans Jr., David Evans, both of Canton, OH, John Evans of Applecreek, OH; two sisters, Theresa Lianna of Pennsylvania and Marie Montie of Michigan; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday 10 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Dyer as celebrant. Calling hours at the Reed Funeral Home Monday 6-9 p.m. At the request of the family, her body will be cremated following the services and the cremains will be buried in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. There will be no funeral procession, everything will begin at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Aultman Hospice or St. Joan of Arc Food Cupboard.

Survivors include his mother, Sherri Eliadis Dunn, Knoxville, TN; a son, Hunter Camp of Lexington, KY; a sister, Sophia Leigh Dunn of Frankfort, KY; maternal grandparents, Jeff and Patricia Sachs of Frankfort, KY. Memorial services will be conducted from Harrod Brothers Memorial Chapel, Frankfort, KY at Sunday 2 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday 6-8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.

Leonard C. Stoller
Leonard C. Stoller, age 84, of Canton, died Oct. 12, 2000 in his home. Born Jan. 1, 1916 in Stonecreek, OH, he was the son of the late Gustavis C. and Bertha (Kohler) Stoller. On March 23, 1950, he married Aline Walters and in March they celebrated 50 years of marriage. He was a 1934 graduate of Gnadenhutten High School, a draftsman for a patent attorney, retiring in 1968. A member of Gnadenhutten Moravian Church, and an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, where he served 3 1/2 of four years in India. He enjoyed woodworking and made several pieces of furniture for this home. In addition to his wife, Aline, he is survived by two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Stoller of Gnadenhutten and Grace Stoller of Florida; seven nieces; one nephew. Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dean Stoller and Gus C. Stoller, Jr.; two sisters, Ruth Stoller and Kathryn Kohl; one niece. A graveside service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Gnadenhutten Cemetery with Rev. Bruce J. Nelson officiating.

Mildred M. Budnie
Mildred Margaret (Choma) Budnie, of Canton, passed away Friday morning, October 13, 2000, at home with her loving family at her side following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Cambridge, OH., on November 21, 1925 to the late Steve and Anna Choma. She is survived by Alex Budnie, her loving husband of 20 years; and her devoted children, Carson E. (Karen) Smith of Richville, OH., Ms. Sharyn Merryman of Canton, Dennis W. Smith of Richville and Robert D. Smith of Rockhill, SC; two step-children, Sharon Budnie of Canton and Michael (Kathy) Budnie of Winchester, VA. She also leaves her grandchildren, Dean (Karen) Smith of Centerburg, OH., Amy Smith and her partner, Diane, of Canton, Sean (Jodi) Broom of North Canton, Angela Merryman and her partner, Micky, of Mechanicsburg, PA, Robert Dale Smith and Miranda Lee Smith, both of North Canton; great-grandchildren, Dean, Moriah and Abigale Smith; Maxamillion, Cameron and Tristan Broom; brother and sisters, John (Jeanne) Choma of Canton, Ann (Merrill) Sayre of Akron and Agnes (Howard) Pierce of Navarre, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Nicholas Choma; and sisters, June Davis, Helen Boyd and Mary Kane. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday at 10 a.m. in Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, 2027 - 18th St. N.E., Canton, Rev. Father David Tillman officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours at the Reed Funeral Home Sunday from 6-9 p.m. where a Holy Parastasis Service will be held at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Hospice of Aultman Hospital or Holy Assumption Orthodox Church.

Morphe J. Xenos
Morphe (Mary) J. Xenos, age 88, of Canton, OH, passed away late Thursday evening at the Arbors Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. A resident of Canton since 1928, she was born Metamorphe Karapaniotides on May 28, 1912, near the village of Chambashi in Ordu Province, Asia Minor. After her father fled to America in 1913 and her mother passed away in 1915, she was raised by her maternal grandfather, Haralambos Efthimiades and her paternal uncle Panayiotis Karapaniotides in Asia Minor and Greece. She was arrived in the U.S. with her father and step mother aboard the SS Byron, on November 8, 1926. After a brief stay in Tarrytown, New York with her maternal uncle and aunt, Louis and Ourania Korosedes, her family settled in Uhrichsville, OH, in the winter of 1925-26. At age 14, she eloped to Steubenville, OH, with her husband, Harry Xenos. After spending the first two years of their married life in Kansas City, Missouri, they returned to Ohio in 1928. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 19, 1976. She entered the work force when it was uncommon for women to work outside the home. From the mid-1930s she was employed at Republic Steel, Canton Stamping and Enameling and Canton Provision Company. After 18 years of service, she retired from Embro's Manufacturing Company in 1976. Preceded in death by her husband, Harry who passed away in 1984, her father, Steve John, who passed away in Uhrichsville, OH, in 1954; her mother, Elphitha Efthimiades Karapaniotides, who died in Asia Minor in 1915; her step-mother, Sophie Korosedes Steve, who passed away in Uhrichsville in 1988; her eldest daughter, Sadie Clements, who passed away in New Jersey in 1980 at age 50; her second daughter, Albis who passed away in Canton in 1931 at the age of six months, and her brother, Andy Steve, who passed away in Cleveland in 1981. Survived by her brother, John Steve; and sister, Mary Steve, both of Uhrichsville, OH; her daughter, Albis and son-in-law, Joe Samonides of Memphis, TN; her daughter, Marilyn and son-in-law, Nick Mourouzis of Greencastle, IN; her son-in-law, Kenneth G. Clements of Nyack, New York; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, where she was active in the Senior Citizens' Club and the Koraes Ladies' Society. She enlivened events with her sense of style and flair for Greek dancing. Friends may call Sunday 6-9 p.m. at Rossi Funeral Home; the Trisagion service will be held at 7 p.m. There will be an additional calling hour Monday 10-11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Fr. John Stavropoulos officiating and the memorial meal immediately following. Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville, OH, where she will be reunited with her husband and parents. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Building Fund.

Patricia J. Stevens
Patricia J. Stevens, age 55, of Ft. Wayne, IN passed away at her residence Wednesday. She was born in Alliance, OH on October 15, 1944. She was a member of Christ's Church at Georgetown. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose strength, courage and faith in God influenced many people's lives.Survived by her husband, James R. Stevens of Ft. Wayne; son, Michael J. Stevens of Ft. Wayne; two daughters, Diane P. Miller and Holly L. Jackson, both of Ft. Wayne; three brothers, Gary Boswell, David Boswell and Bruce Boswell, all of Canton; two sisters, Jackie Pignalberi and Linda Longstreth, both of Canton; one grandchild. Preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Services will be held Saturday (today) at 11 a.m. in the Covington Memorial Funeral Home, Ft. Wayne. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens. Stefan Oana, age 84, of 1558 Logan Ave. NW, Canton, died Thursday, October 12, 2000, in Aultman Hospital. He was born on January 28, 1916 in Salem, OH, to his parents, Miron and Maria Oana. He was employed by Babcock Wilcox, Canton, in the engineering dept. for 28 years. Member of St. George Romanian Orthodox Church. He was a member of the Masonic Trinity Lodge #710, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Canton and A.A.R.P. He was a 1937 graduate of Salem High School. Survived by wife, Helen (Boncu) Oana, whom he married on June 25, 1944; three sons, Ronald Oana, Michael Oana, both of Canton and Alan Oana of Hiawaussee, GA; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a son, Stefan E. Oana. Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at 11 a.m. in Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Fr. George Treff and Fr. Constantin Tofan officiating. Burial in Hope Cemetery in Salem. Calling hours Sunday 1:30-4 p.m. in the funeral home. Saracusta Service Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
